Radical Islamist Zakir Naik doesn’t want to return to India till BJP is in power, feels a sense of safety in Congress regime

Controversial Islamic preacher who is on a run from India has said that he doesn’t intend to come back to India as long as the BJP is in power. Naik fled the country in 2016 after Dhaka terror attack. He is wanted on multiple counts of money laundering, hate speech and other offences related to promoting communal hatred.

Naik spoke exclusively to The Week, published by The Malayala Manorama Co. Ltd., from his residence in Putrajaya, Malaysia. While the Indian government has urged the Interpol to issue a ‘red corner notice’ in his name, he has been granted permanent residency by the Malaysian government. A red corner notice is sent to the 194 Interpol member countries, where a fugitive who is pending extradition is located and provisionally arrested.

Referring to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s attack on the Congress for calling him an apostle of peace, he said, “Whatever has been happening in the past two and a half years (since the government’s crackdown on him) are political games. I am not very close to politicians. Neither was I close to the Congress party. Yes, because of my popularity, I do meet ministers and some [important] people in India and abroad. That I was allowed to speak on counterterrorism in Hyderabad and address IPS officers should not be directed against Congress.”

He went on to say that he has been granted highest awards of the country by the Sharjah ruler, the Gambian president, and the Malaysian king. “So why is he (PM Modi) singling out [Congress leader] Digvijaya Singh? I am not a fan of Digvijaya Singh. I am not involved in politics. I have always been away from politics. Digvijaya Singh was invited as one of the chief guests in one of our conferences just like the other people we call. But Modi is picking on him only because he wants the vote bank.”

Throughout the interview, Naik spoke on a variety of issues including religion, Jihad and his return to India. In response to a question about his chances of return, if there was a change in government, he replied, “Yes, of course, the chances of returning are much more. Not that tomorrow if there is a change in government I can come the next day. The case against me can proceed. I will cooperate under the condition that I will not be unjustly persecuted. Today, everyone is saying something for their own benefit, including Congress. Out of the two evils, Congress is the lesser evil. Not that they are completely honest. If the Congress was completely truthful then Babri Masjid wouldn’t have been demolished.”

He further added that the Congress party going soft on Muslims is beneficial but they are doing so for their own benefit. The thought of BJP coming back to power ‘once again’ scares him. The irony is that this man is an idol for many terrorists who claim to have been inspired by his hate speech. Naik also expressed his fear for the Muslim community and BJP being an extreme right-wing party. He also divulged that money power and corruption also bother him.

Contrary to his statement, he claimed that he doesn’t consider BJP as practising Hindus. “I consider the Congress more Hindu than the BJP. Does Modi know Hindu scriptures? Let us have a dialogue. Let’s talk about Hindutva. Hindu scriptures say don’t cheat, don’t lie. But why are they lying?” he questioned.

To sum it all, he said, “I would not like to come back if the BJP is in power.” He also added that half the countries in the world wouldn’t give him a Visa thanks to Narendra Modi.

It would be safe to assume that an Islamic fundamentalist who is scared to come back to the country while BJP is at the helm of affairs, feels a sense of safety during the Congress regime. Perhaps, Congress President should clear his stand on the issue and explain to the country the kind of ‘special relationship’ his party shares with this radical preacher.

We had earlier reported how days after the Easter Sunday bomb attack in Sri Lanka, the cable operators of the island country had blocked Naik’s hate-spreading Peace TV.

Clashes erupt between TMC and BJP workers after Amit Shah’s roadshow was attacked by stones and sticks

Amit Shah’s massive roadshow in Kolkata was marked by violence towards the end when clashes erupted between supporters of BJP and Trinamool Congress.

The BJP president had done a roadshow in Kolkata ahead of the last of the phase of Lok Sabha election, which had turned Kolkata saffron due to the participation of people in large numbers. The roadshow started near Esplanade, and it went on relatively peacefully and headed towards the residence of Swami Vivekananda. Before the roadshow, the police and TMC workers had removed BJP posters, banners and flags from the city, and Amit Shah was denied permission to hold an election rally.

When the roadshow reached near Kolkata University, it was shown black flags by some people, and anti-Modi slogans were chanted. ‘Go back Amit Shah’ was also chanted by university students and TMC workers. This triggered a clash between BJP workers and people present in the area. When the roadshow neared the Vidyasagar College, the clashes intensified after stones and bricks were thrown at the roadshow from the campus, and sticks were also thrown at the truck of Amit Shah.

From the videos of the incident, it can be seen that BJP workers also returned stones and bricks towards the college campus, which started a full-blown fight. Several vehicles were torched during the clash, and high tension prevailed on the entire College Street.

Stones were thrown at police personnel also who were trying to control the violence. Several BJP workers were hit by stones thrown at them from inside the Vidyasagar College campus. It is alleged that after that some BJP workers entered the campus and fought with people there. The statue of Ishwar Chandra Vidyasagar in the college campus was also damaged in the clash. The gate of the college and several pieces of furniture were also damaged.

The violence was contained by a huge deployment of police, who brought it under control by using lathicharge.

Finance minister Arun Jaitley condemned the violence in Amit Shah’s rally, saying “the attack on Amit Shah’s peaceful rally by the TMC is deplorable” in a tweet. While Mamata Banerjee alleged that BJP bought goons from outside the state to do hooliganism.

The election in West Bengal has been marked with large scale violence and electoral malpractices by the ruling party in the state. Several BJP leaders and workers have been attacked by TMC goons, including state party president Dilip Ghosh and Assam minister Himanta Biswa Sarma. The social media is filled with videos from polling booths from the state showing TMC workers voting on behalf of genuine voters, right in front of election officials and security personnel.

1971 war veteran AVM (retd) Aditya Vikram Pethiya comes out in support of PM Modi’s ‘cloud and radar’ comment

Air Vice Marshal (retd) Aditya Vikram Pethiya, the 1971 war veteran has come out in support of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s ‘the clouds could help Indian jets escape radar’ statement. AVM (retd) Pethiya’s remark comes days after PM Modi faced severe criticism and ridicule from the opposition over his comment during a recent TV interview.

As per the report published in News18, AVM (retd) Pethiya, who fought the 1971 war as a fighter pilot, has justified the PM’s statement. He said rain and clouds have always been challenging to fly planes. PM had earlier said that clouds could have played advantage to the Indian Air Force during Balakot air strikes in February. The air strikes were conducted in retaliation to avenge the deadly Pulwama terror attack.

F16 Radar

He further added while small clouds don’t make much of a difference but dense clouds potentially affect the capability to detect the exact details of the fighter jets. In this context, it would be fair to say that the clouds impact the radar capability just as the way clouds, storm and rain disturb television signals.

AVM (retd) Pethiya was present during the air strikes at the Indo-Pak border in Bikaner. He was in fact, taken in as a prisoner of war (PoW) by Pakistan. He was in the enemy custody for 5 months 3 days and 8 hours till he was handed back to India. Post his release, he was awarded the Vir Chakra in 1973 by the then President V.V. Giri.

Earlier, senior BJP leader and National Vice President Bijayant Panda had also supported the PM’s statement. Panda who is a graduate from Michigan Technological University was working in the corporate sector before venturing into politics, and he is a trained pilot and regularly flies helicopters. He has previously worked with Biju Patnaik and present Chief Minister of Odisha Naveen Patnaik. In fact, Panda had also shared a link that explained the science behind radar systems.

During an interview, PM Modi had said that cloud cover “helped” IAF planes evade Pakistani radars during the Balakot strikes. “Main din bhar vyast rehta hun. Raat 9 baje review kiya, phit 12 baje review kiya. (I am busy the whole day. I reviewed it at 9 pm then at 12 am). Humare saamne samasya thi ki us samay mausam achanak kharab ho gaya. Bahut baarish hui. (There was a problem that weather had turned bad. It was raining) Visheshagy tareekh badalna chahte the , par maine kaha ki itne badal hain, baarish ho rahi hai toh ek fayada hai ki hum (Pakistan) radar se back sakte hain. Sab uljhan mein the ki kya karein. Phir maine kaha ki badal hain jaiye aur wo chal pade. (Specialists wanted to change the date but I suggested that the rain would give us an advantage and it would help us evade Pakistan radars. Everyone was in a dilemma. Then I asked them to leave and they did)

PM’s remarks have since created controversy and Twitterati has engaged in a heated debate with each other. While some are vehemently against it, the others have poured their views in support of the PM.

While netizens engaged in a war of words over the PM’s remark, a report by Firstpost has tried to decipher the logic in a simple explanatory way. Earlier today, we had also published a report about how the PM has ruffled many a feather with his comment on radar technology.

Of Radars and Morons: Prime Minister Narendra Modi was right, deal with it

It appears that many a feather was ruffled by Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s statement when he said that he suggested going ahead with the Balakot strike on the original date, despite the cloudy weather, because the clouds would permit our aircraft to escape safely.

Instant experts on radar functioning, having managed to read through a couple of web pages on the subject, suddenly started pontificating as to why the Honourable PM’s statement was wrong. Indeed, no less an intellectual than Maryam Akhtar Mir weighed in on the subject.

Another referred to the USA’s DARPA (Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency) as “exotic.”

Rahul Gandhi, President of the Congress party too took a swipe at the Prime Minister. He said, “Modi ji, whenever it rains in India, do all aircraft disappear from the radar”.

Newbie Priyanka Gandhi Vadra too joined her brother. She said, “He believed that he won’t come on people’s radar due to the cloudy weather”.

Of course, the members of the Congress party were joined by scores of media outlets who never bothered to get domain experts to comment on the issue. They simply thought fit to run with the jokes because it suited a specific political agenda.

Most of the criticism that is being directed at the Prime Minister stems from political rivalry or hatred, rather than a thorough examination of facts or knowledge on how Radars work.

It is often said that contrary to what physics teaches us, the basic parts of the universe are electrons, protons, neutrons, and morons and perhaps, a detailed explanation about how radars work is imperative to present a counter to the ill-informed rambling we have been hearing in the past few days.

The Balakot airstrike was an elaborate military operation and in a mission like that on the Balakot terrorist camp, there are several “radars” involved.

The radar on our fighter aircraft

Any aircraft operating in the hostile territory should have the ability to sense whether it has been spotted by the defenders and whether any missiles have been fired at it. Since the aircraft would be flying above the clouds, its own radar would work quite well even if it is cloudy at the ground level. In the case of the Balakot attack, it appears that the Pakistani air defence did not even detect our aircraft (more on this below).

Another point is that our aircraft would have to “illuminate” the target via a laser beam so that the bombs dropped by the aircraft would be able to lock onto the target. The phrase “illuminate” is unfortunate, because the lasers would not be operating in the visible spectrum. If the weather consists of patchy clouds, the aircraft can wait for a hole in the clouds and illuminate the target. Also, the bombs can be programmed using the latitude and longitude coordinates of the target, if there is a thick and impenetrable cloud cover (though this would reduce the accuracy of the bombs).

The guidance system on the bombs

Strictly speaking, the bombs don’t require any radar, because their targets aren’t moving; but they do require the ability of terminal guidance so that they can hit the target precisely. Once they are below the cloud level (assuming there are clouds), they can follow the target as initially pinpointed by the laser, and GPS, or some combination thereof.

The radar for the Pakistani air defence system

Unlike our fighter aircraft, which know precisely where they are headed, the defence radars would have to scan the sky constantly and look for unfamiliar objects. All fighter planes, including ours, are coated with radar-absorbent material. Therefore the radar cross-section of a fighter plane is quite small. Consequently, if there are a lot of clouds in the sky, these would lead to a lot of spurious reflections of the radar beams and make it more difficult to detect an intruder. Additional information such as time of flight would be useful to differentiate between a low-level cloud patch and a high-altitude aircraft. But still, a lot of cloud cover would certainly make it easier for our aircraft to evade detection and return safely.

So in sum what PM Narendra Modi said is correct, even though it might cause heartburn to his critics. Clouds do affect several aspects of the radar system in various ways and tweeting a picture with a dog is not going to change that fact.

I should also mention a few other factors related to the attack.

When the attack was being planned, I presume that the planners would have made a distinction between the mission failing, and our aircraft being jeopardized. If the cloudy weather would have jeopardized our aircraft, we would not have gone ahead. On the other hand, if our aircraft were not in jeopardy, I believe the mission would have gone ahead even if success was not guaranteed.

If our aircraft had gone to Balakot and merely “hit a few trees” as the Pakistani government kept lying, the mission would still have to be considered a success for several reasons:

  1. The IAF would have demonstrated its ability to penetrate deeply into Pakistani air space, deliver a load, and return safely. So if the bombs missed their target, the IAF would have repeated the exercise as many times as needed. The fact that there was ZERO response from Pakistani air defence systems is very significant.
  2. By launching the attack, the so-called “red line” regarding Pakistan’s alleged nuclear threat has been tossed into the Arabian sea.

In fact, Pakistan was so spooked by the attack that they kept their air space closed for a month after the attack. Right now they are dropping hints that they are purchasing anti-aircraft defence systems from Russia, but those hints can be discounted, for the following reasons:

  1. Pakistan has no money to pay for any weapons system. Russia is also not in good shape and cannot afford to sell “on credit.”
  2. The IMF won’t permit Pakistan to spend any part of its loan for defence procurement. Of course, Pakistan could cheat.
  3. Russia has also made it clear that any equipment it sells to Pakistan cannot be used against India. For the Russians, India is a far, far bigger market than Pakistan, and they would not do anything to antagonize India and get shut out of our market.

While political considerations are bound to play a role in the Prime Minister’s critique by opposition members especially during election season, when it comes to defence and science, one would hope for an iota of sanity and logic. However, as is becoming increasingly evident, that is a lot to ask from the ones who even questioned the Balakot airstrikes, let alone one statement by Prime Minister Modi.

Kolkata turns saffron during Amit Shah’s road show despite all attempts by Mamata govt to scuttle it

Ahead of the last phase of the Lok Sabha elections, Amit Shah did a roadshow in Kolkata, which saw the participation of a huge number of people. Despite all the efforts of the Mamata Banerjee government to scuttle the campaigning of BJP, including not giving permission for a rally by the BJP president, the roadshow is a huge success.

The Trinamool Congress and state police tried everything to prevent the roadshow becoming a success, but a large number of people joined it despite the fact that they risk action against them by TMC and administration for supporting BJP. The party’s posters, banners and flags of BJP were removed ahead of the roadshow. When asked about the same, Amit Shah said, ‘you see only flags and posters removed? I see seven of my party workers killed by Mamata’s goons. Mamata didi killed my seven workers’.

Talking about the turnout at the roadshow, the BJP president said that if people were not stopped by the state government from participating, there would not have an inch of vacant space. He also alleged that his rath was blocked for an hour, and he had to start his roadshow on a jeep.

Amit Shah reiterated that BJP will win more than 23 seats in West Bengal, and the party will win despite the attack by TMC. For Mamata Banerjee he said, her age has increased, so she should keep her temperature down. Because if temperature/anger is high, it raises BP.

During the road show, Amit Shah stood on a rath, or a truck decorated with flowers, which started from Shaheed Minar Maidan in central Kolkata and headed to Swami Vivekananda’s house in north Kolkata. Party workers were seen singing and dancing to the tunes of dhols and dhakis in the rally. It also included some tableaux highlighting the culture of various parts of the state.

Other than the usual slogans of the party, the workers also chanted ‘Jai Shree Ram’ during the roadshow, which will surely irk CM Mamata more. Artists dressed as Lord Ram and other characters of Ramayana also seen among the sea of saffron wearing supporters of the party.

Many people familiar with the city commented that the crowd in the rally reminded them of Durga puja when all the streets in the city are filled with people on Vijaya Dashami. They also said that this scene is nothing like ever seen before in the West Bengal capital.

Although top BJP leaders have conducted several successful rallies in West Bengal, this is the first roadshow done by a party president. And the euphoric participation it has witnessed will definitely raise hopes of BJP that it will do well in the state.

Rahul Gandhi says he will consult IAF before cancelling the Rafale deal if he comes to power, but IAF has already spoken

Rahul Gandhi’s lies on the Rafale deal have acquired legendary status over time. After his allegations were refuted by not only the government but also the Supreme Court, certain sections of the media, the Indian Air Force and even the French government, he still refuses to abandon his ‘Chowkidar Chor Hai’ narrative.

The Congress President, in his recent interview with News Nation, again displayed his ignorance of the entire matter. He demanded a debate with the Prime Minister over the Rafale deal. Then, after somebody movements which could only be described as mystifying, he said, “I am saying, I have to get books, I have to get books,” eliciting laughter from the interviewers although it was difficult to know whether they were laughing because Rahul Gandhi’s humour (guessing he was trying to be funny) or at him.
[youtube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8OL5D3Z-piY]

After repeating his usual lies on the matter, raking up the late Manohar Parrikar and the cropped The Hindu report and sneaking in accusations of bias against the interviewers in between, Rahul Gandhi was asked by the journalists when they were finally allowed to speak by the Congress President whether he intended to scrap the current deal and renegotiate it in its entirety. In response, Rahul Gandhi admitted that he did not have much knowledge on the matter.

He said, “I am an Opposition leader today, I don’t know the details. Before scrapping the deal, I will have to consult with the Air Force. People who understand these things, I will have to ask them. Look, something or the other has happened. And the Prime Minister should have ordered an inquiry.”

As it turns out, senior officials within the IAF have already given their say on the matter. Air Marshal Raghunath Nambiar said in an interview last year, “People are perhaps misinformed. We were a part of the commercial negotiations for Rafale. There is nothing like ₹30,000 crore to any one party. Dassault has to do offsets to a tune of ₹6,500 crore. Not more than that”.

Indian Air Chief B.S. Dhanoa, too, had defended the deal and said that the Supreme Court had given a fine verdict when it dismissed the petitions against the deal. He had said, “Who said we don’t need the Rafale? Government has said it is needed, we have said we need it”. Rafale is a game changer, it is a different level. When it comes into the subcontinent and in this particular sector, it will be the most advanced aircraft,” he added.

Recently, Rahul Gandhi was forced to apologize before the Supreme Court for claiming that the Court had said ‘Chowkidar Chor Hai’. Despite the obvious setback, he hasn’t shied away from making allegations against Narendra Modi without knowing the details of the matter as he admitted himself in the interview.

In an interview with India Today, the scion of the Nehru-Gandhi parivar had made it clear that his sole objective is to destroy the Prime Minister’s image. Thus far, however, his campaign of slander hasn’t seen such much success.

CRPF bans PUBG, says game addiction affecting operational capabilities of jawans

PUBG in India has stirred up another controversy as the CRPF has imposed a ban on its troops from playing the game. In a recent development, the CRPF has instructed its commanding officers to enforce a ban on the PUBG Mobile app as it affects the operational and socialising capabilities of the Jawans. According to an internal survey, an increasing number of paramilitary personnel have been found addicted to the game.

An order issued by the CRPF’s Bihar unit reportedly said, “Many Jawans were hooked up to their mobile phones playing PUBG game for an inordinate amount of time. They had stopped socialising with their fellow jawans. Characteristics of sleep deprivation were also visible amongst those addicted to the game. It is getting them addicted to an altogether different level that is adversely affecting their operational performance, and causing aggressiveness and attitudinal issues.”

In a circular sent to all Deputy Inspector Generals(DIGs) of all formations and force’s anti-insurgency Cobra unit, the order asked them to ensure and instruct all unit/company personnel under them to delete/deactivate the PUBG mobile game app from their devices. The order also asked the senior commanding officers to carry out random phone checks to determine if the app is installed on the devices of the soldiers under them.

Addiction to PUBG has been highlighted in many instances before. There have been issues of lack of concentration, falling academic performance and sleep deprivation due to reduced physical activity reported among students and youngsters. Last month in Telangana, a 16-year-old boy had committed suicide after he was scolded by his parents for spending too much time being engrossed in the mobile game.S

Several cities in Gujarat have banned PUBG by circulars issued by the respective police departments. The Gujarat Child Rights body had also sent a letter to the national Commission of child Rights and had asked the respective Child Rights bodies of all states to help curb the negative effects of the game.

From infancy to old-age and even death, us men have made it a cruel world for women

Three girls were already born, when the fourth one was also found out to be a girl, uncles declared that they wanted their share and live away from the family. They did not even see her face. When it was revealed in sonography that it was a girl, the doctor was paid money and that tiny little body of a few inches was cut into pieces and aborted. When it was found that the first child was a girl, she was strangled then and there. This has been done by both the women and men in the family. This has been done by mothers and fathers as well.

Somehow she got to live but even in infancy, she was attacked and raped by men. People from her family touched her inappropriately. Fathers, brothers, uncles, cousins, teachers and friends, almost every man related to her touched or teased her against her will. She was raped, continuously, until she died but could not muster the courage to tell anyone what has happened and has been happening.

She was betrayed by her first love who leaked their intimate moments in public. She remained fearful of everyone afterwards. She had to give up her studies. When she went to live with her relatives in search for better opportunities to study her own male relatives or any other person kept molesting her and blackmailed her that she was living in their house and that her sister or aunt will be harmed if she did not oblige.

When she went to the office to work there she was told that she was inferior and needed the ‘help’ of her boss to move ahead. Sometimes she was harassed inside the elevator, sometimes she was called inside the cabin to told what she needed to do in order to move forward.
It is a very generic story. You just need to fill in names, places, and relations and it will become a true one. It is a very dangerous situation. This is ubiquitous. This is happening in your homes, your classrooms, with your own children, in your neighbourhood, and in your society. Try talking to the females in your family and everywhere you will find a story of molestation, rape or sexual harassment.

The Alwar incident happened and it created a storm during the election season. But what would you do after knowing what happened in Alwar? Such incidents are happening every single minute. From backward societies to advanced economies such incidents happen everywhere. Therefore, the names of the place and society are becoming increasingly irrelevant.

There is a set pattern for these incidents. An incident happens, police is reluctant to file the FIR, the ruling party condemns it, the opposition attacks the government as if everything was fine during their rule, people share the link of the incident of Facebook and at the same time tell the guy sitting next to them how ‘mast‘ the girl sitting in the next cabin is. Both giggle and everything becomes ‘chill’. This is the whole story of the rape of a girl. This is wrong but that’s how it is.

Our problem is that we start the discussion in the wrong way and lead it to some place where it is completely detached from the issue itself. The issues remain as they were and will happen again in a new form, at a different place, at a different time. Molestation or rape is not a political problem, hence you will get nothing by cursing the leaders. It is a social issue, and society will have to bring about some fundamental changes for this.

Nothing will come out of cursing the leaders because nothing has ever come out of it. You should assume that nothing short of a civil war, or a large scale public uprising, in other words, a public movement is required to improve the situation. But even after that, men will continue to exist in society, and some men will continue making headlines of raping a newborn to raping an old lady eventually raping a female corpse. The most a public movement can achieve is at least no politician will be able to shamelessly say that elections were on so the issue got neglected.

Therefore, change is needed somewhere else. A female friend of mine texted me saying female foeticide is right and it would have been good if she had been killed too. She said that let it be a world of men only because the men deserve this heartless, sick world. I did not have an answer. What could I say? I also fail to answer when my elbow accidentally touches a girl in metro and she rebukes me. Despite knowing that I am not at fault, I fail to answer.

I fail to answer because that rebuking was not for me but for my being a man, a man who masturbates in the metro, keeps his hand on a girl’s shoulder, rubs on her back taking advantage of the crowd in the metro. It is me everywhere. It is only me in different forms, who deliberately falls on women in buses, who rubs his penis peeking into the windows of girl hostel. It is only a form of me who lures a young girl with a bar of chocolate and takes her away, brutally rapes her and then kills her.

These are all me in different forms, therefore even when I am not wrong, I tolerate all the accusations hanging my head with shame. Because I know that half an hour ago someone would have touched this girl deliberately. These acts are so common that on an average a girl experiences this a dozen times a day.

Manhood and Power

The feeling of power that comes attached to the manhood can be seen even in a sickly, weak man. Even when such a man indulges in sex he exerts his power over the other person instead of seeking pleasure. Instead of imbibing the purity of those moments he is more concerned about leaving an impact of his masculine strength on that girl.

We don’t really get involved in sex, we actually use sex to show how much power we have stored up inside us, and all of that power is exhibited by thrusting through a vagina. Our girlfriends know how savage we are in bed.

When this power does not find an outlet, it gets transferred and is manifested in acts like twisting a girl’s arm in crowded places. This is the power that gives the audacity to spank a girl’s posterior. This power gives you guts to rest your hands on a girl’s breasts. This is the subtle form of the same bestiality. This brutality is found in men generally, the only difference being that some keep it under control while most of them want to dominate in every situation and at all times as they don’t even bother to consider their presence in bed, or what she wants.

Normalisation of Rape

Rape is the ugly form of this power. We should be shocked at hearing such words but we are not. Why does this word not shock us anymore? Because we men have made it so common that such news has lost its impact. We have normalised it from a newborn girl to even the dead body of a girl on which we leave our marks. We express momentary grief, but we tend to forget. But, rape is not an incident to be forgotten so easily.

If we forget then there is some problem in our system. It doesn’t matter what place it is, what matters is the fact that it’s widespread and yet we keep on sweeping this under the carpet. We never thought much. We never introspected. We never tried to control ourselves.

The beast inside does tend to dominate, be it on our girlfriends or our wives. Did we ever actually make love in those moments or we got our fantasies fulfilled forcibly? Maybe, the girls who are in relationships with us might have mistaken this for love while we actually raped her with her consent. Have you ever tried to know if you ever surrendered yourself to the person who surrendered herself to you?

This is where questions are raised on our mentality. This is where we make our first mistake. When we never realise the love of the ones who are with us, with consent, why wouldn’t we get crazy seeing a girl in the outside world? Or, why will we get bothered by the news of a 16-year-old being held captive for 51 days by three boys and getting raped?

If the mentality of men is not changed for good, then in the coming times we will be found committing rapes within our own families. Our fear would be gone, police would not be present inside our homes, and we will take out our frustration on our mothers, daughters, and sisters.

What can we do?

What do we do then? The first things we can do it to accept that we all men are partners in such acts. It is us who give the courage to a man to commit such acts. It is a group act, that guilt of which lies on every man. The only way we can get rid of our frustration is when we are in a situation to admit our own mistakes and the mistakes of our society. What sensitivity can be expected of those who attack their own girlfriends and wives?

Teach our kid gender equality since the very beginning. Tell him that the difference between himself, his sister and his friend is somewhat similar to that between a rose and a marigold. Don’t categorise the beauty of girls as attainable and unattainable. Don’t make her a trophy of a race. Treat both your son and daughter equally.

Make it a habit to ask your kid about what all happens to him or her in home or school. Whether it is your son or your daughter, ask them if they are being touched inappropriately in school or tuition class. Ask them if someone has told them not to tell about something. Don’t ignore your children in any situation. If you see some sudden changes in a child, don’t ignore him/her in your busy schedule. Remember that the child was not born out of his own will but you have brought him/her to this world and it is your responsibility to give the child a better future. Therefore, never neglect your child.

Stop your colleagues at your workplace from indulging in cheap misogynist activities. Tell them this seemingly harmless situation can turn them into rapists or can inspire others to commit the biggest mistake of their lives. Remember, there is a difference between looking at girls, staring at them and scanning them like an X-Ray machine. Always remember that.

Our society is doomed, we can’t change much about it. But we can certainly give a better society to our children and train them to give a better society to their children. This is a continuous process. You can choose to ignore, thinking that your own house is safe but a person cannot live in isolation, he does not have control over all the things happening with him, we are all influenced by external forces.

Better education and continuous efforts only will help clean the society. At your own level, start by loving your girlfriends or wives instead of exerting force on them. Understand the importance of these moments, try to understand them in their entirety. Momentary pleasure and show of strength affect your mental state at various levels. This culminates into something really horrible.

Alwar happens every minute. Leaders give statements every day. We discuss this on Facebook every other day. But these incidents do not decrease because we have stopped feeling. We have normalised its brutality. We move on treating it like a normal thing.

Whereas, we will have to understand that we can give our society positive energy by bringing some changes inside us, controlling our desires, and spreading love in place of oppression. I know even this article might float around in the digital world like a hundred thousand other words that I have written on rape only, and will serve no purpose. But I will keep writing because even if a single person is changed after reading this and is able to accept the negativity inside him, my writing would be successful.

Memeta Banopadhyay: Netizens post memes of TMC chief after SC granted bail to the youth arrested for posting Mamata meme

Hours after the Supreme Court granted bail to Priyanka Sharma, who was arrested for sharing a meme on Mamata Banerjee, netizens took to Twitter to share more memes of Mamata. Twitter user Vikas Pandey started a thread on Twitter asking his followers to share their best memes on Mamata.

Some of the memes were hilarious.

Clearly, there is a favourite theme.

Lt Gen Panag who endorsed coup against Modi if he returns to power, had endorsed Shekhar Gupta’s fake coup story in 2012

Retired army officer Lieutenant General H S Panag on Monday endorsed a call for a military coup against the democratically elected government of India should Prime Minister Modi return to power in 2019. He suggested that a coup was a good option if Narendra Modi is reelected as Prime Minister. However, he later deleted his tweet and claimed that he actually meant political revolution.

The retired general does appear to have a certain fascination with coups. While he is endorsing a coup now, 7 years earlier he had endorsed the dubious Indian Express story which claimed that there was a possible coup attempt by the Indian Military under the command of General V.K. Singh. Indian Express had used his endorsement to give credence to its story.

Following the tweets by the veteran, Indian Express had done another story, which was used to justify its dubious coup theory.

Not merely that, Lt Gen Panag had also cast aspersions on the character of General V.K. Singh who is now a Member of Parliament from the Bharatiya Janata Party. In what he claimed to be an “assessment of a military mind based on reported information in the press”, Lt Gen Panag hinted that the troop movements were a pre-emptive attempt to stop the then UPA government from sacking him. He had posted five tweets after the Indian Express story.

The now-retired Lt General has almost made it a habit of endorsing fake news which targets the Modi government. In October 2017 after the Indian Air Force chopper crashed in the harsh terrain of Arunachal Pradesh, the mortal remains of the martyrs were airlifted. Lt Gen Panag, who once served as a Commanding Officer with the Indian Army shared misleading images of the coffins to insinuate that the government and the army deliberately disrespected the martyrs.
