Kerala: Kanaka Durga gets a court order to enter her in-law’s house after she was not allowed for desecrating Sabarimala temple

Kanaka Durga, one of the two women who had entered the Sabarimala shrine on 2nd January said she was finally able to enter her in-law’s house after a local court ordered that she be allowed to enter.

However, she was not able to see her children. According to her, she has no problems staying with them but they do not want to stay with her. She said that while she does not have any difficulty in staying with her in-laws and her children, they are not ready to stay with her.

As per reports, the Court observed that Kanaka Durga is a victim of domestic violence and that she has the ‘right’ to live with her children by sharing the household with her husband.

We had reported earlier that Kanaka Durga, one of the two women who had desecrated Sabarimala Temple, was involved in a brawl with her mother-in-law after she returned home from her adventure and was denied entry.

There were conflicting reports about the whole incident. While initial reports claimed that Kanaka Durga was hit by a wooden plank on her head, contrasting accounts emerged where it was claimed that it was, in fact, Kanaka Durga who had attacked her mother-in-law, a staunch devotee of Lord Ayyappa, when there was an argument between the two.

As per reports, Kanaka Durga’s family and relatives were completely against her antics at Sabarimala and her husband and children did not allow her to stay with them.

Madhya Pradesh: Officer summoned by CBI in Bofors case found dead under mysterious circumstances

SC Khatua, a junior works manager (JWM) of the Guns Carriage Factory was reportedly found dead in a drain behind section 2 of the factory area in GCF in Jabalpur, Madhya Pradesh yesterday. As per reports, Khatua’s body was severely decomposed and a bloodstained blade was also found near his body.

As per reports, the 45-year-old Khatua was summoned by the CBI for an inquiry into the charges of supply of Chinese spare parts for the production of indigenised Bofors guns used by the army.

He was reported missing on January 17. Khatua’s wife had lodged a missing person report on January 18. However, the police have stated that the case looks like that of a suicide.

The Delhi-based firm named Siddhi Sales Syndicate was accused of conspiring with certain GCF by the CBI in July 2017 on allegations of selling fake Chinese parts to the ordinance factory. CBI had also lodged an FIR against unknown officials of the ordinance factory under the MoD. Fake parts made in China were reportedly sold as Made in Germany products and were being fitted into the Dhanush guns used by the army.

They were charged with forgery and cheating. Later in 2017, a team of CBI officials had also visited the GCF in Jabalpur to question involved officials and investigate the case.

BSP supremo Mayawati joins Twitter for ‘speedy interaction’ with media and masses

With the 2019 general elections battleground heating up, no one wants to lose out on the capturing the social media influence, especially the politicians. While all other prominent politicians of the country are already active on Twitter Bahujan Samaj Party supremo Mayawati has declared her Twitter presence today.

Twitter handle @sushrimayawati released a press statement today regarding the account and about its purpose. The press release is addressed to all the media persons, informing that this is the first time that BSP supremo has decided to join twitter for ‘speedy interaction with media and masses’ and ‘express her views on issues of national and political importance’.

Even though the press release acknowledging her Twitter presence has been released now, her profile shows that handle had come to existence on the micro-blogging website in October 2018. On 22nd January, the handle had tweeted about her opening the handle ‘for future interactions, comments and updates’.

Since then, Mayawati, on her Twitter account, has uploaded various press releases regarding the upcoming general elections and about the Union Budget 2019.

Interestingly, Mayawati’s party Bahujan Samaj Party still does not have a twitter handle, unlike other parties. So far, it has been considered that core voters and cadres of the BSP are untouched by social media and television media. But, now BSP Supremo getting on Twitter just months before 2019 general elections, point towards the rising national ambition of the party and leader.

On January 12, SP and BSP declared in a joint press conference done by BSP supremo Mayawati and SP chief Akhilesh Yadav that they will be contesting the upcoming Lok Sabha elections under an alliance. The alliance’s sole agenda, according to both leaders, is to keep BJP out of power. As per alliance, SP and BSP will fight on 38 seats each. They have left 2 seats for other smaller parties and 2 seats of Amethi and Raebareli for Congress.

JNU sedition case: Patiala House Court pulls up Kejriwal government over case delay, fixes next hearing for 28th February

0

The Patiala House Court in Delhi today fixed the next hearing in the JNU sedition case for 28th February. The Court asked the Delhi Police to get Arvind Kejriwal-led Delhi Government to expedite the matter and provide sanction for the JNU sedition case charge sheet. The court said that they (the government) cannot stop the file.

Earlier, the Delhi government had issued show cause notice to the bureaucrat who had cleared JNU sedition case file. The Delhi government had received the charge sheet on January 14 but no action was taken on it. In fact, extending their support to the ‘tukde tukde gang’ Congress had invited Kanhaiya Kumar, one of the accused in sedition case, for an event remembering Mahatma Gandhi.

The 1200 page charge sheet prepared by the Delhi police with painful efforts over 3 years was rejected by the Patiala House Court on January 19 when it was presented before it. The court had asked the Delhi police to get the charge sheet sanctioned by the Delhi government. The Delhi police had revealed before the court that the AAP-led Delhi government did not respond to the charge sheet after it was received by the government.

The charge sheet contains the names of former JNUSU president Kanhaiya Kumar, Umar Khalid, Anirban Bhattacharya, Umar Gul, Basharat Ali, Raes Rasool and Khalid Bhat along with Shehla Rashid and the CPI national secretary D Raja’s daughter Aparajita Raja for allegedly shouting anti-national slogans at the Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) in New Delhi in 2016.

The first request seeking the permission to commence prosecution in the JNU sedition case was submitted by the Delhi police in 2016. And the second request was submitted on January 21. The unexplained delay by the Delhi government in giving the sanction to the charge sheet is casting a shadow on the intention of the government.

Madhya Pradesh: 3 persons charged under NSA for cow slaughter, first instance under Congress rule

In what is reportedly a first, the Congress government in Madhya Pradesh has invoked the stringent National Security Act (NSA) on three persons arrested for cow slaughter in the state.

As per reports, three days ago, the police in Khandwa received information that some people have slaughtered cows in the Moghat area on January 31. Upon reaching the spot, a police team found evidence f the slaughter and began an investigation. A day later, two of the suspects, Nadeem and Shakil were arrested from the Kharkali village nearby.

On 3rd February, the third suspect, Azam was arrested too. Later, the police reportedly found that Nadeem was a repeat offender and he has been arrested on charges of cow slaughter earlier too.

As per reports, the cows slaughtered by the three culprits were obtained through smuggling.

Though the three accused were initially booked under the sections 4,6 and 9 of the Prohibition of Cow Slaughter Act, upon the recommendation of the SP, the district collector has sanctioned charges under the NSA. It is alleged that the locality where the slaughter was performed is a communally sensitive area and the act of cow slaughter could have threatened communal harmony there.

As per a report in The Times of India, the last time NSA was invoked for cow slaughter, it was under the BJP government when Anwar Mev, the vice-president of the BJP’s minority cell was found guilty of cow slaughter and was booked under NSA with nine others. He was also expelled from the party.

Earlier, the Yogi Adityanath government had also ordered to invoke the NSA and the Gangster Act on persons guilty of cattle smuggling, illegal transportation of smuggled cattle and slaughter in all the districts of the state.

It is notable here that the BJP government under Shivraj Chouhan had brought amendments to the Prohibition of Cow Slaughter Act in 2010 adding provisions for stricter punishment and making it more stringent. It had become law in Madhya Pradesh in 2012 after approval from the president.

Parliamentary Panel summons Twitter India officials to explain allegations of anti right wing bias

Parliamentary Committee on Information Technology headed by BJP’s Anurag Thakur has summoned Twitter India officials on 11th February where Twitter India and Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MEITY) will present their views on the issue of ‘safeguarding citizens’ rights on social/online news media platforms.

The panel has 21 Lok Sabha members and 10 Rajya Sabha members. Thakur has also sought views and suggestions from general public which could be emailed on [email protected].

On Sunday, several Twitter users led a silent protest in Delhi against Twitter’s left-wing bias and deliberate silencing of opposite ideology.

The curious case of Twitter censoring social media users for disagreeing to left-wing and ultra wing ideology at the time of crucial general elections has upset several social media users. With opposition parties and Lutyens media ecosystem backed by the Congress party indulging in false narratives and propaganda, right-wing users have expressed fear that more fake news may emerge in the social media platforms.

It is also accused that several prominent right-wing accounts are shadow-banned by Twitter. This means while the account is not blocked or suspended, the Tweets posted by that account do not appear on the timeline of the followers of that accounts. Tweets from such ‘shadow-banned’ accounts do not appear in search results also, effectively meaning that tweets of such persons remain invisible to users, unless they visit the Twitter account page of such persons.

This is not the first time that right-wing accounts, fact-checking accounts and other social media users who disagree with the left-wing accounts have faced bans and scrutiny from the Twitter. Recently, tweets from Scientist Anand Ranganathan, a free speech warrior and filmmaker Vivek Agnihotri were withheld by the Twitter ‘in response to a legal demand’.

Twitter is fast becoming a platform where ideological battles are fought, at times, by stifling the voice of those they disagree with and Twitter’s ‘hateful conduct’ policy reveals a definite left-wing bias. Facing accusations of discriminating against conservatives on the social media platform, Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey in an interview to CNN had admitted that most of the employees of Twitter have a left-leaning bias.

Recently Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey had created a furore in India by posing with a placard that declared ‘Smash Brahminical Patriarchy’, an extremist Leftist trope of demonising an entire community. Later Twitter India’s legal head had apologised profusely to everyone for hurting their sentiments. A local court in Jodhpur, Rajasthan has also admitted a plea against Dorsey over the anti-Brahmin placard.

Kolkata drama comes to an end as Mamata Banerjee ends her dharna

0

After three days of electrifying drama, West Bengal chief minister, Mamata Banerjee called off her dharna politics, a three-day sit-in protest against the centre, which she referred to as ‘Save the Constitution’ which saw a host of opposition leaders extending support to the Trinamool Congress chief.

“This dharna is a victory for the Constitution and democracy, so, let us end it today,” she told her supporters at the protest site in the heart of the Bengal capital. Andhra Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu stood next to her, so did Tejashwi Yadav of Bihar’s Rashtriya Janata Dal. Both had flown to Kolkata to extend their support; other opposition leaders had phoned in their support.

The Central Bureau of Investigation, whose move to barge into the house of the Kolkata police chief and question him, after sending over 20 notices to the Kolkata police commissioner in the Ponzi probe, triggered the mega row, went to the Supreme Court, which heard the evidence against Rajeev Kumar today.

The CBI has accused Rajeev Kumar of being a “potential accused” in the Saradha and Rose Valley Ponzi schemes, the cases he investigated, and said it was possible that he might have tried to destroy evidence. Although the top court has given the verdict that Rajeev Kumar cannot be arrested, his questioning will be done in Shillong.

Calling the SC judgement a ‘moral victory’ Mamata decided to end her theatrics today.

While addressing the media, Mamata Banerjee lambasted at the BJP and Modi saying that “one man, one party rule is going on in India”. She accused the centre of controlling all agencies, including the state agencies as well and asked the PM to resign and go back to Gujarat.

She further blamed the central government of interfering with the state affairs and said that the centre was not providing adequate funds to the state. She further accused the Modi-led government of harassing media, bureaucrats and officers, film industry, government officials, industrialists, farmers etc.

The Bengal CM, who is the so-called self-made or self-proclaimed ocean of talent, amongst various other allegations said that Modi was jealous because of her ‘talent’. The fact that she can write and paint and that her books have been ‘best sellers’ have made the PM jealous.

While DMK leader Kanimozhi, who was acquitted in the 2G spectrum case in December 2017 and fodder scam convict Lalu Yadav‘s son Tejashwi Yadav, who himself is accused in IRCTC scam and the Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu, who has been an accused in the cash-for-votes scam was seen rubbing shoulder’s with Mamata Banerjee,  the out on bail Congress President Rahul Gandhi, who seemed to have forgotten its party’s own stand on Mamata and the Chit Fund scam from a couple of years back, extended his support saying, Congress is ‘shoulder to shoulder’ with Mamata chose to stay away from Kolkata.

Meanwhile, hitting out at Mamata, Union Minister Smriti Irani, called her an ‘anarchist’ and expressed shock over her assertion of ‘moral victory’. Irani claimed that the fact that the Supreme Court instructed the Kolkata Police chief to meet CBI at a neutral venue is an implicit recognition of the lawlessness in West Bengal. Irani further alleged that the decision by the Supreme Court should spell concern for Mamata Banerjee, not a moment for celebration.

Unprecedented scenes have unfolded in Kolkata since Sunday evening when Kolkata Police detained five CBI officials who had reached Kolkata top cop’s residence in connection with Saradha Chit Fund scam probe. The West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has since then been sitting on a ‘Dharna’ against the central government.

Days after tragic crash of HAL’s upgraded Mirage 2000, HAL built army chopper makes an emergency landing due to hydraulic failure

0

An Army chopper, ALH ‘Rudra’ MK IV, developed by Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL), reportedly made an emergency landing at a field in Kanakapura taluk near Bengaluru, initial reports said.

This is the second incident in the last one week. Earlier, in yet another tragic incident, HAL upgraded Mirage 2000 aircraft, which was on an acceptance trial, had crashed at the Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) airport at Bengaluru, leaving the two pilots dead.

However, as per reports the helicopter, ALH ‘Rudra’ MK IV, had to make the emergency landing due to a possible hydraulic failure. Both pilots onboard are reported to be safe.

Sources said that the army version of capabilities, developed and manufactured by HAL had taken off from the HAL airport in the city and made an emergency landing due to a technical snag.

‘Rudra’ is the army variant of ALH developed by HAL and had taken off on a routine air sortie from the HAL airport. Army, police and technical support teams reached the spot immediately.

The spokesman for Hindustan Aeronautics Limited, which developed the Rudra and is building some more copters for the Army and the Air Force, said that HAL had flown a technical team to the site to give support. “According to our information it was a precautionary landing,” he said.

HAL was contracted to deliver about 76 Rudra ALH MK IV helicopters for the Indian Army and the Indian Air Force. The Indian Army plans to equip its Army Aviation Corps with 60 helicopters, forming six squadrons. HAL handed over the first Rudra helicopter to the Indian Army in February 2013.

Earlier, in May last year, the Rudra chopper was involved in a mishap during night flying in Jodhpur. However, then it was involved in a hard landing incident due to a brown-out.

The state-run Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd (HAL) makes and upgrades aircraft for training and combat operations of the IAF as the country’s sole defence giant. It also maintains and operates the military airport in Bengaluru.

Recently there have been various issues revolving around the efficiency and sincerity of HAL relating to the production and delaying in its delivery schedules.
