Karnataka Energy Minister DK Shivkumar declares assets of over 800 crores

0

The Karnataka assembly elections are scheduled to be held on May 12 and candidates have begun the process of filing their nominations. Among the 100 candidates who have filed nomination so far, Karnataka’s energy minister and Congress leader DK Shivkumar have emerged as the richest.

According to reports, Shivakumar submitted an affidavit on Thursday while filing for nomination papers for the Kanakapura constituency in the Ramanagara district. Shivkumar reportedly filed a 94-page affidavit declaring assets of over 840 crores. This is almost triple of the value of the assets he had declared in 2013 assembly elections. In 2013 he had declared assets worth 251 crores. In 2008, he had declared assets worth 75 crores.

According to reports, Shivkumar has declared cash and bank deposits of Rs 95 crores, immovable properties including resorts, commercial/residential buildings and land worth about 635.8 crores and gold, silver and diamonds worth 1.5 crores. He has also declared the assets and incomes of his daughter Aishwarya to be over 100 crores.

Income tax officials had raided Shivkumar’s properties in August on allegations of Tax evasion. Among the properties raided was the Eagleton Gulf Village Resort where Shivkumar had earlier hosted the 43 Congress MLAs from Gujrat before the Rajya Sabha elections last year.

During the I-T department raid, Shivkumar was reportedly found destroying evidence and he was taken away by the officials for questioning. The Congress party had created a ruckus in the Parliament alleging that the BJP is using the I-T department to witch hunt its leaders. Finance Minister Arun Jaitley had refuted these claims stating that Shivkumar was caught destroying important documents and the documents were later recovered by the officials.

The 55-year-old Minister has also been in the news for misbehaving with the public. In February he was seen in a video slapping a man trying to take a selfie with him. Earlier in November too, he was caught on video slapping a student trying to take a selfie during a press conference.

Shivkumar is said to be a protege of former Union Minister SM Krishna. He has a strong following among party workers and is currently the head of the campaigning committee for the state assembly elections.

Journalist dissects SC judgement on Judge Loya, exposes tricks used by senior lawyers

0

R Sriram, a journalist with Economic Times, in a series of tweets, exposed the tricks used by the senior advocates in the Judge Loya case verdict where the Supreme Court showed the propagandists their true place. Sriram, in his tweets, accused the lawyers of attempting to besmirch the judiciary and create an alternate reality.

He says as per the judgement, the SC judges were clear on two fronts, whether Judge Loya’s death was unnatural, suspicious. And other, whether Maharashtra government carried out due process and whether a special investigation was necessary.

SC pointed out several discrepancies in the report by Caravan magazine and reiterated by petitioners who relied on Caravan’s findings. Example, the incident of ordering an auto rickshaw to take Judge Loya to a nearby hospital. SC pointed out that Judge Loya was taken to hospital in local judge’s car. Another thing petitioners have claimed is that no ECG was performed. The Supreme Court says not only was the ECG performed at the Dande hospital, but the same was even referred to by doctors at Meditrina Hospital.

Another lie the SC nails is finding blood stains on Judge Loya’s death as well as the allegations that no one accompanied Judge Loya to his ancestral village in Nagpur.

He also points out how Caravan magazine’s report that Judge Loya could not have died of heart attack highly unscientific and inaccurate.

He says how the petitioners wanted to show that Judge Loya’s death was suspicious and in the process ended up questioning the motives of fellow judges who were accompanying Judges.

As Sriram rightly says, one thing to say there is something wrong in the Judge Loya death investigation and completely different to imply the fellow judges who helped him and stayed with him in his last moments as co-conspirators leading to his death.

Congress MLA sues a YouTube channel for spreading ‘defamatory videos’ on the Gandhi family

0

Reports have emerged that Senior Congress leader Radhakrishna Vikhe Patil has sued a YouTube channel for spreading defamatory videos against the Gandhi family.

Patil, the leader of opposition in the Maharashtra Legislative assembly has also accused the YouTube channel of promotion enmity between two communities. As we wait for more information, it is unclear as to which YouTube channel has been sued under this coordinated clampdown on free speech.

We had reported earlier how Congress was trying to stifle the voice of those who ‘dared to’ mock the Gandhi family prince, Rahul Gandhi.

Vikas Pandey had tweeted how a copyright takedown notice was issued by Indian National Congress against a video of Rahul Gandhi’s Singapore question-answer session posted on the ‘I support Narendra Modi’ YouTube channel.

Later, a second video was also issued the same notice and another video was forced to be taken down. This was the “second strike” in YouTube parlance.

It was also alleged that this was a mass deletion campaign by the Congress party and ‘I support Narendra Modi’ was not the only channel being targeted.

In fact, a handle by the name of @NKDeewan was also permanently suspended recently. Deewan a witty twitter user incidentally had achieved quite a bit of online fame in the recent past by creating hilarious spoofs of Rahul Gandhi. His suspension provoked an outcry with people using the hashtag #bringbackdeewan to demand the restoration of his account.

With Divya Spandana, Congress social media head and the Congress party clamping down on free speech while pretending to be the harbingers of the same in public discourse, the hypocrisy of the grand old party has been thoroughly exposed. Perhaps this is the only way they can protect the carefully crafted “brand new” image of Prince Rahul Gandhi who is no stranger to gaffes and often makes a fool of himself in public gatherings.

Colleague accuses Youth Congress workers of molestation during Kathua and Unnao rape protest

0

Youth Congress and National Students Union of India (NSUI) workers have been accused of molestation by one of their colleagues, during an Unnao and Kathua rape protest rally in Mumbai on Sunday.

As reported, the woman Congress worker has complained to her party’s Mumbai unit chief Sanjay Nirupam that she was molested by her male colleagues. This protest rally comprised of a candle light march which was organised in Mumbai’s upscale Juhu.

The complainant a Pradesh Congress’ delegate (PCC) from Mumbai Congress’ North Unit sent a text message to Nirupam alleging that the the Youth Congress and NSUI workers stooped to a very low level by touching, pushing and shoving women in an inappropriate manner. This as per her made them feel unsafe in presence of their own Male colleagues.

She claimed that the colleagues did it, so that they could get ahead in the queue and get their faces captured by the media. While reminding Nirupam the nature of the protest, she alleged that the male party workers behaved in a completely uncivilised manner, which put the senior leadership to shame. After sharing the identity of some of the perpetrators, she demanded that action be taken against them.

Nirupam meanwhile has acknowledged receiving the text message and has assured action against those found guilty. After apologising to her for the incident, he also claimed that he would help her file police cases, if she wished so.

He also claimed that henceforth a “Do’s and Don’t” list will be issued, which would need to be followed in future rallies containing women participation.

This molestation charge comes in the light of a journalist alleging being groped and ‘lynched’ during a recent midnight vigil, which was called by Congress President Rahul Gandhi. This vigil also saw Sonia Gandhi’s daughter Priyanka Vadra admonishing rowdy participants for their behaviour.

The Westminster Central Hall reverberated with chants of ‘Modi Modi’ and ‘Bharat Mata ki Jai’

0

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who is in the United Kingdom as part of his five-day three-nation tour, interacted with participants in the ‘Bharat Ki Baat, Sabke Sath’ programme on Wednesday at Westminster’s Central Hall in London. An estimated 1,700 people, mostly from the Indian diaspora in the UK were present at the event organised by the Europe India Forum. The “no-holds-barred interaction” saw Modi fielding questions from across the world.

In a very candid deliberation with censor board chief Prasoon Joshi, PM spoke on topics as diverse as crimes against women and children in the country, his government’s performance and programmes, and India’s foreign policy, especially with regard to countering terrorism and dealing with Pakistan. During the programme, Modi also spoke of about the crimes against women and their safety.

The surgical strikes conducted by the Indian Army in the aftermath of the Uri attack and the Ayushman Bharat National Health Protection Mission (NHPM), dubbed as ‘Modicare’, were also some topics of discussion during Modi’s interaction. The prime minister also spoke about his personal outlook regarding serving the country and the role of criticism of the government in a democracy.

In response to the series of questions, Modi said his problem is not against criticism. “To criticise, one has to research and find proper facts. Sadly, it does not happen now. What happens instead is allegations,” Modi said during his more than two-hour-long interaction. “I want this government to be criticised. Criticism makes democracy strong. Democracy cannot succeed without constructive criticism,” he added.

When questioned on the surgical strikes, Modi asserted that India will not tolerate those who like to export terror and will respond to them. Modi revealed that before making the news of the surgical strikes public, India had repeatedly attempted to contact Pakistan government to inform them about the top-secret operation conducted by the Indian forces. The Prime Minister expressed his pride in the Army as they executed the surgical strikes with perfection and returned after finishing the task before dawn.

While interacting with the people present there PM Modi spoke in connection with the Kathua and Unnao rape horrors without mentioning either by name, saying nothing could be worse than the rape of a girl child and this is not the time to compare metrics on rape cases between two governments.

The prime minister highlighted the contribution of 12th-century Lingayat philosopher Basaveshwara at the event in London.

Responding to a question on Modicare, the prime minister said his government was working for the health of every Indian. “Our focus is on three things: education for students, employment for youth and medicines for the elderly,” he said, adding that the Ayushman Bharat National Health Protection Mission will cover more than 10 crore poor families providing them health insurance of up to Rs5 lakh per family annually. He hoped that more than 1,000 hospitals will come up in Tier-2 and Tier-3 cities in the near future because of Modicare.

On an optimistic note, he said, “If India has a million problems, we have a billion solutions”,

Responding to an audience question on how he stays fit, Modi replies: “For the last 20 years, I’ve been on a special diet. I take 1 to 2 kg of criticism daily. That’s the secret of my fitness,” Modi said sparking many rounds of laughter in Westminster’s Central Hall in London.

Major spice oil exporter threatens to shut Kerala operations following troubles by CPM affiliated trade union

0

Synthite Industries Limited which is considered one of the largest spice oil and oleoresins exporter in the world has threatened to shift its operations out of Kerala rendering its main unit near Kochi getting potentially locked down. The company accounts for fulfilling about 40-50% of the world’s requirement of spice oils and oleoresins which are used by food, flavour and fragrance industries.

As reported, Synthite which is called the world’s largest value-added spices company has threatened to pull out of Kerala over a labour strike by part of its employees. This strike is reported to have been supported by CPM affiliated trade union CITU. This strike has meant that the operations of the company were disrupted for the first time in 46 years. In total, the company employs about 2400 people.

As per Managing Director Viju Jacob, the protest stems from inter-state employee transfer, which as per him has been a long-standing policy of the company. Jacob has claimed that if the situation isn’t resolved, the company would be forced to move its operations to its existing facilities in the other states. He has claimed that it won’t be a difficult task for the company and pointed out Chandrababu Naidu’s open invitation to invest in Andhra. This relocation if it happens, is pitted to impact about 600 families and affect Kerala’s revenue.

The trouble in company’s Kerala unit seems to have begun in December last year when CITU became the first trade union to register with the company. This was done against the wishes of 75% of the employees and had resulted in Synthite transferring seven employees who belonged to the trade union.

This current strike too has been opposed to by some of the employees who took out a rally against it.

The Synthie episode incidentally isn’t the only time communist ruled states in India have been crippled by trade unions.

Famously in 2008, work at the Dunlop factory in West Bengal’s Sahagunj was suspended following a failure in finding a consensus with the labour unions even after prolonged discussions – over the management’s plan to bring in a pay-cut in light of the global financial crisis. The pay cut wasn’t accepted by the unions, and workers were rendered fully unpaid for the total duration of the suspension owing to the company’s “no work no pay” policy.

Besides companies, trade unions are also known to cripple both the communist-ruled states and individual citizens.

Back in 2016 Tripura was completely crippled as a result of an all-India strike called by trade unions. Despite the strike being nationwide, a similar impact wasn’t visible in other northeastern states.

Coming to individual citizens, it was observed in 2015 that an American artist in Kochi was asked to pay Rs 10,000 by trade union labourers for merely moving six boxes by about 10 feet to load them into a truck. Angered by the same, the artist was recorded destroying some of his work in protest.

‘Saffron terror’ and five more fairytales for Hinduphobes

In January 2013, at a grand AICC meeting in Jaipur, then Home Minister Sushil Shinde made the following extraordinary statement :

“Reports have come during investigation that BJP and RSS conduct terror training camps to spread terrorism… Bombs were planted in Samjhauta express, Mecca Masjid and also a blast was carried out in Malegaon… This is saffron terrorism that I have talked about. It is the same thing and nothing new. It has come in the media several times,”

More than the ‘saffron terror’ part, Shinde was never grilled on providing exact locations of these terror training camps.

It made no difference to India’s Home Minister that he was diluting India’s stand against global terrorism by saying that the BJP runs terror camps. If the BJP, which was running multiple state governments at the time, is a terrorist organization, then how are we different from the uncivilized neighbour that we accuse of “state-sponsored terrorism”? But then, Sonia ji and her puppets have never cared much about such things. In the aftermath of 26/11, Shri Digvijay Singh went personally to release a book on “26/11: An RSS conspiracy?” The world pointed the finger at Pakistan, but our Indian National Congress pointed a finger at RSS.

Who needs enemies?

In the last few days, we have seen that the bottom has fallen out of the ‘saffron terror’ theory on close judicial examination. After feeling the heat from (partial) Hindu unity in the last General Election, the Congress Party, as of 2018, no longer backs the ‘saffron terror’ theory through official channels. Presumably, that dirty work has been outsourced to the broader ‘secular’ ecosystem of journalists, intellectuals and academics beholden to the party.

But ‘saffron terror’ is only one of the many heads of this monster. It failed precisely because it was too outrageous; it had too much poison. Its sting was so powerful that it managed to wake up even the Hindus. The real strategy of the ecosystem is to slow poisoning … through multiple channels … keeping Hindus in a depressed condition of self-hatred.

So, I decided to collect five other times this poison was spread through the media cum rumour ecosystem. Perhaps seeing more of the poison in one place will make a difference to people’s understanding of the gravity of the situation.

(1) A boy called Junaid.

He was only 15, with everything in life ahead of him. Alas! His life was cut short on a Mathura bound train when people lynched him to death on an accusation of being a beef eater.

Read and weep for what our nation has become

Untitled.png

And now, read and weep for what our media has become.

Untitled.png

The beef was nowhere in the picture. But make no mistake, the ecosystem has done its job. Notice that the original article has 27000 shares on Facebook, while months later when the truth came out, there were just 9000 shares. The ecosystem wins as long as the lie stays one step ahead of the truth.

(2) Semen filled balloons on Holi

Remember this?

Untitled.png

From saffron terror to Holi terror. The “news” went viral, with celebrity journos asking random men on the internet why they threw semen filled balloons at women. All this was achieved before the truth could get its pants on.

Falsehood is a fast swimmer.

(4) Intolerant Hindus rape 71-year-old Christian nun in Bengal

Untitled.png

It was not a warning but a symptom. A symptom that media is committed to spreading unsubstantiated rumours in its propaganda war against the Modi government.

Untitled.png

A Bangladeshi native by the name of Nazrul Islam. Wonder which casteist, pro-Hindutva RSS shakha he was working with?

(5) Church attacks

Remember when the Prime Minister of India was facing questions over a theft of Rs 8000 from a school? Apparently, local police constables were all on vacation, leading media to pose questions on petty crime directly to the Prime Minister. What else does Maharashtra CM Devendra Fadnavis have to do with his time than to find out who threw a stone at a church in Navi Mumbai?

So much so, that ex-Mumbai Police Commissioner Julio Ribeiro wrote expressing his pain and insecurity as an Indian Christian and got 19000 Facebook shares for it.

Untitled.png

Turns out that all these assorted incidents were just petty crimes strung together to form a narrative. The story of “church attacks” had no staying power and faded away soon enough. The story had peaked right before elections in Delhi. You can see that it served its purpose very well.

These are just five fairytales that the ecosystem told Hindus to make them feel ashamed of themselves, their country and their culture. It’s the slow poison designed to keep Hindus distracted while the real horror story is being written. It’s a waiting game that the ecosystem is playing till the demography overwhelms us in its natural course. By the time Hindus wake up, it might be too late.

Modi hating actor Prakash Raj spreads lies on Twitter, again

0

Prakash Raj has been incredibly politically active in the recent times. The actor turned politician often makes no sense and harbours a pathological hate for Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Today, Raj went a step further and tried to tarnish the PM’s successful UK trip where just yesterday, he had interacted with the diaspora in a hugely successful event.

From his Facebook page, Prakash Raj shared a post claiming that things are falling apart and the Centre cannot hold them together anymore. He wondered if the people who “troll” and “threaten” him hear the “voices getting louder”. He wondered if such people will “continue to brand them anti-national”.

All the pictures shared by Prakash Raj were old pictures from different protests and had nothing to with the Prime Minister’s recent visit.

Picture 1:

The first picture shared by Prakash Raj :

As it turns out, this picture is from 2015 protest where Shiromani Akali Dal (Amritsar) had staged a protest against Narendra Modi outside the UNO in New York. In this protest, pro-Khalistani and anti-Modi slogans were also raised.

Picture 2 :

The second picture shared by Prakash Raj :

This is also a picture from September 2015 during his second trip to the United States of America. Many would recall Modi’s interaction with Mark Zuckerberg during this trip too.

This image specifically is of a protest by a group called Alliance for Justice and Accountability (AJA) over his supposed culpability in the 2002 Gujarat riots, one he has been given a clean chit for by the Supreme Court.

Picture 3 :

The third picture shared by Prakash Raj :

This picture shared by Prakash Raj is an even older image from the year 2013 before Modi was elected as the Prime Minister. The picture is from a protest outside Delhi University when the then Prime Ministership contender Modi was delivering a speech to a cheering audience in the University. This protest was held by leftist outfits that are known to spread untruths and propaganda.

Picture 4 :

The fourth and last picture shared by Prakash Raj

The above picture is also from 2015 when Prime Minister Narendra Modi was on his second trip to the United States of America and AJA (Alliance for Justice and Accountability) had protested against him.

This is not the first time Prakash Raj has been caught spreading fake news. We had written about how Raj had spread fake news about BJP in a bid to malign Yogi Adityanath. He had also distorted BJP leader Ananth Kumar Hegde’s statements to mislead people on Social Media. His hypocrisy and political opportunism were also evident when he spoke about the Mahadayi row but earlier had refused to comment on the Kaveri dispute.

Raj in his post had wondered if he would be called anti-national for #JustAsking. Perhaps this could be a wake-up call for the actor turned politician, that he might not be called anti-national for asking questions, but using old pictures to discredit a visit to a foreign nation by an Indian Prime Minister, to score political points, certainly can be called an anti-national narrative.

Why the Karnataka election is crucial both for Congress and the BJP

0

In one of his recent interviews, Prime Minister Narendra Modi took a few minutes to elucidate his views on a slogan that become synonymous with his 2014 Lok Sabha Election pitch. ‘Congress Mukt Bharat’ he said, does not necessarily mean the electoral demise of the Congress Party but the uprooting of a negative political culture epitomised for decades by the grand old party.

‘Casteism, nepotism, corruption, exploitation, treachery and an absolute lust for power have exemplified politics as practised and propagated by the Congress party’. While a literal occurrence of ‘Congress Mukt Bharat’ has been fairly successful with the Congress and allies having suffered heavy losses in most elections since 2014, Karnataka stands in the way of Modi’s attempt to rid India of the Congress way of politics.

The battle for political power has been happening and will continue to happen across the country. But why is winning Karnataka as consequential for India? The answer lies in analyzing the political climate since 2014.

Karnataka 2018: The beginning or the end of revival for the Congress Party?

BJPs thumping majority led many to believe that the Congress’s decimation was complete and final. With just 44 seats in the Lok Sabha, the Congress was in its worst position electorally since independence. But a party whose sole ideology has been the acquisition of power at no cost, coupled with the experience of having used everything including state machinery (read Emergency 1977) in its pursuit of political power, could not be written off just yet.

Many permutations and combinations for revival were attempted – divisive, anti-government narrative building campaigns including the award-wapsi, intolerance fiasco found resonance amongst the long-standing usual suspects. However, nothing seems to stick strong enough to withstand the saffron surge that engulfed the country. The BJP was able to unseat Congress Governments in Haryana, Uttarakhand, Himachal, Assam and Maharashtra and win through alliances in J&K, Arunachal, Andhra Pradesh.

An attempt to unite the opposition under Mahaghatbandhan eventually fell through although the alliance did succeed electorally in Bihar. Later, BJP’s historic victory in the Hindi heartland of Uttar Pradesh cemented the electoral dominance of the saffron party.

It was only through Punjab that Congress began to see rays of hope against the BJP and allies. The Akali led NDA coalition crumbled in the face of massive anti-incumbency and the strong campaign of Capt. Amarinder Singh. For the first time, Congress had lessons to learn not from defeat but from victory. Having a strong regional leader, whose hold on the state was independent of the national sentiment towards the Congress, seems to have worked.

While in Gujarat, this formula could not be directly employed due to the lack of a strong regional leader, another similar strategy was being experimented. The Congress’ age-old tool of caste-based, divisive politics was employed in the Prime Minister’s home state, only this time around it was spearheaded by homegrown caste based leaders from outside the party (Hardik Patel and Jignesh Mevani).

Although this failed to stop the BJP from returning to govern Gujarat for a 5th consecutive term, it did have an important lesson for the Congress party. This lesson was identifying and externally nurturing caste fault-lines in vote banks that have historically been associated with the opposition.

Through all these victories and defeats, the Congress has been observing and imbibing the lessons and now they are being implemented in Karnataka. After all, being the only big state under Congress rule — the only big state where a project such as a steel flyover could be proposed to fill party coffers — means that a lot is at stake.

In Siddaramaiah, Congress has found someone who is both a regional powerhouse and a master at caste based divisive politics. While his first two and a half years of Chief Ministership saw some accusations of incompetence, dissent within the party, Siddaramaiah has succeeded in establishing his control over the party and the government.

The Congress party, for the first time since 2014, is going into a state election with an advantage, this is the first real hurdle in achieving Modi’s vision of a Congress Mukt Bharat. It is for this reason that winning Karnataka would be of absolute necessity for the BJP.

The same old party, just new packaging:

An aspect that has been apparent to observers of Karnataka politics is that Siddaramaiah has invested in an elaborate image management exercise to brand his government as pro-development. What helps the Congress party is that the so-called ‘civil society’ and the media doesn’t scrutinize its claims the way they do it for BJP and ‘Sangh Parivar’. This re-branding exercise is a significant part of understanding the newest avatar of the Congress party.

Though it was late to adopt technology and data-driven strategies in its political outreach management, through Karnataka, the party has finally found its way. The Chief Minister has gone an extra mile in ensuring that his voice is heard on all platforms including social media. A strong pro-development face is being projected even in the face of crumbling law and order, charges of corruption and apathetic governance.

Apart from which, there is a never before witnessed aura of aggression amongst senior Congress leaders and supporters in Karnataka in their presence online. One can ‘blame’ Cambridge Analytica or bots or whatever, but the truth is that Congress is doing well on this front. Though this re-branding exercise is nothing but mere eyewash, at present, at least in the online world, it appears to be working.

Caste card:

Siddaramaiah’s focus on the AHINDA (minorities, OBCs, and Dalits) strategy has predated his association with the Congress party. However, brutally divisive caste politics has been taken to an extent not witnessed in the state even in the times of Devraj Urs.

The target has been the politically consolidated, BJP core voter base of the Lingayats. By distinguishing Lingayats from the Veerashivas and promoting the narrative of a separate and officially supporting the demand for a minority Lingayat religion, Siddaramaiah has used caste fault line combinations that were employed in Gujarat. It is apparent that Siddaramaiah will stop at nothing, not even damaging the very basic fabric of Hindu society, to hold on to power, a trademark of a true Congressman.

Demoralised Hindus:

Another old strategy that is being continued in Karnataka is the political and most, unfortunately, literal beating that Hindus have taken under Siddaramaiah in Karnataka. Minority appeasement has been associated with the Congress for decades. In Karnataka, the Congress party has furthered this agenda not just through its Government Schemes (read Shaadi Bhagya) but also by promulgating politics of communal violence.

The Congress Party has allowed for violence against Hindus to gain a foothold in Karnataka, especially in the coastal districts neighbouring the state of Kerala. 23 Hindu activists, many of whom belonged to the RSS or the BJP, have been brutally murdered. The Government has not only remained unmoved in view of these killings but has also politically nurtured the PFI, an organization that has been chargesheeted in the murder of many of these Hindu activists.

Why BJP needs to win the state:

BJP Karnataka’s campaign against the Karnataka Congress has recently gained momentum, especially online. The BJP’s Chief Ministerial candidate, Yeddyurappa has visited all 224 assembly constituencies through his ‘Parivarthana Yatra’. Prime Minister Narendra Modi is also reported to lead the campaigning in the state. All this shows how the state is equally important to the BJP in wake of the 2019 general elections.

If the BJP wins Karnataka, it will leave a big blow to Congress which has an upper hand in the state and has most of the factors working in its favour as of now. The latest campaign to shame BJP and Hindus over rapes in Unnao and Kathua also has peaked. Congress seems to have got everything right, except a few hiccups like dissatisfaction with ticket distribution, which honestly is not unique to the party. This is why it will be a big blow to Congress if they lose from here and the BJP has to do its best to secure a victory.

If the party loses in Karnataka, it will expose its vulnerabilities further and could demoralise the support base further. The Congress supporting ecosystem will also get a shot in their arm and that will add to the troubles of the BJP.

All these factors ensure that the upcoming Karnataka elections are going to be keenly fought and perhaps we are going to witness some unprecedented political one-upmanship in coming days.

Police deployed in UP village fearing communal tensions after Muslim ‘pradhan’ rapes a minor girl

0

A village falling under Purandarpur police station region in Uttar Pradesh’s Maharajganj district has come under focus after a village pradhan has been accused of raping a minor girl.

As per reports, the minor victim was sitting in the balcony of her house on Wednesday while the pradhan named Akhtar Khan was passing through the area. Allegedly seeing her alone he grabbed her and tried to muffle her screams. Following this he took her to a room and after tying her up allegedly proceeded to rape her.

Reports have claimed that Akhtar also threatened to kill the girl who supposedly belongs to a backward caste, and fled the scene after committing the crime. Later the girl was rushed to a community clinic after being discovered. The doctors at the clinic later referred her to a district hospital. As per the police, the girl’s condition was dire with her repeatedly losing consciousness. Her state though has reportedly improved since then, and is being considered stable.

Reports have claimed that the parents of the girl were out of the house at the time of the crime and the neighbours supposedly saw Akhtar fleeing from the house.

After being notified of the incident, Superintendent of police – RP Singh, Senior Superintendent of Police – Ashutosh Shukla and Circle Officer Gaurav Tiwari reached the spot and pacified the irate villagers by promising Akhtar’s arrest.

Later based on a complaint filed by the victim’s mother, the police booked Akhtar under the POCSO act and sections reserved for rape. A five member team was also constituted for his arrest. Following this, the team raided various locations and finally arrested Akhtar at about 8 PM on Wednesday.

With the incident involving two communities, the police has deputed a strong force after fearing communal tension gripping the village. The deployment also includes senior police officers camping in the village.
