Karnataka Medical Education and Skill Development Minister Sharan Prakash Patil wrote a letter to the centre on Tuesday seeking NRI quotas in the government medical colleges.
He said, “I had written to the government of India and even the National Medical College. (NMC). We are requesting an increase of 15 percent in seats in the common medical colleges for the NRI quota for the self-sustainability of the colleges.”
He further said that the increase in seats in government medical colleges would help improve the quality of education and generate more money. “In the long run, if you want to improve the quality of education and have better teaching facilities in the teaching hospitals, we need to generate more money.”
“The government is giving sufficient money but in the long run, I believe additional funds are required because now private medical colleges are making huge investments and I don’t want the government medical colleges to fall behind. “Hence, I gave the government of India the proposal for the enhancement of the seats. It will be helpful for the government medical colleges,” he added.
Earlier, on June 13, he issued tough instructions to the officials of his department to conduct an inspection and seal nursing colleges that had failed to provide basic infrastructure to the students after availing all the facilities from the government.
In his chair meeting with the members of the nursing college management and medical education department officials at the Vikasa Soudha, he received numerous complaints over the lack of infrastructure facilities in several nursing colleges.
He had then instructed the Director of Medical Education, Dr Sujatha Rathore, who was present in the meeting, to inspect and seal the colleges.

Accused Rizwan was shot in the left leg, while Taufiq, a resident of Pali, was wounded in the right leg. Two more accused named in the murder, Rehman and Abrar Ali were also arrested.
The accused persons, Rizwan, together with his brother Rehman Ishtiaq, Rizwan, Abrar, Javed, Taufiq, and Arshad had allegedly attacked Aman Rajput on Saturday night. Aman had lent money to Rizwan and had been recently demanding it back. Enraged by this, the accused launched an attack on Aman’s home, shot him dead, and also injured his pregnant sister. His other family members were also injured.
A power struggle and caste-based politics in the state of Karnataka appears to be brewing yet again after a Vokkaliga seer urged CM Siddaramaiah to step down the post of Chief Minister so that DK Shivakumar could take over as the new CM.
During a Kempegowda Jayanti function attended by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, seer Chandrashekar Swamiji advised Siddaramaiah to make room for DK Shivakumar in the future. Kumara Chandrashekaranatha Swami of the Vishwa Vokkaligara Mahasamsthana Mutt, a prominent mutt of the Vokkaliga community, said that everyone from the Congress had enjoyed the power but DK Shivkumar was kept away from it.
“Everyone has become Chief Minister and enjoyed power. Our DK Shivakumar hasn’t become Chief Minister yet. Siddaramaiah has already been in power. In the future, Siddaramaiah should hand over power to Shivakumar. I again request Siddaramaiah, please make DK Shivakumar the Chief Minister,” he said.
The seer later told the media that Shivakumar was a deserving candidate for the post of Chief Minister since he played a key role in organizing the Congress ahead of the 2023 Assembly elections.
To note, DK Shivakumar is a prominent leader in the Vokkaliga minority, which accounts for 15% of Karnataka’s total population. In response to the seer’s words, Siddaramaiah who was also present at the event stated that the final decision depended on the Congress’ high command. “I will do whatever the party high command says,” the Chief Minister stated.
The incident is said to have happened when Siddharamaiah and Shivakumar were both present at an event commemorating the birth anniversary of Kempegowda, who is regarded to be the founder of Bengaluru.
The power struggle in the Karnataka Congress is not a secret since it has defeated the BJP to come to power in the 2023 elections. Amid this, comments by seer Chandrashekar Swamiji have sparked heat among the party members. Following this, several other seers belonging to different sects have also begun commenting on the power struggle making sure their sect gets equal representation in the state power.
Srisaila Jagadguru Channa Siddharama Panditharadhya Swamy, a prominent Lingayat seer, asked the Congress last week to consider their community leaders for the position of chief minister.
Unlike the Vokkaliga seer, who pitched Shivakumar alone, the Lingayat saint suggested state ministers M.B. Patil, Eshwar Khandre, and S.S. Mallikarjun for the position. He reminded the Congress that Lingayat voters had supported it in the Assembly and Lok Sabha elections.
“If the CM is changed and additional deputy chief ministers are appointed, then Lingayats should get more representation in the cabinet. Opportunities should be given to leaders like M B Patil, Eshwar Khandre, and Shamanur Shivashankarappa,” he said. Another Lingayat seer, Rambhapuri Veerasomeshwara Swami on June 30th demanded prominent positions for leaders from the Lingayat community in the cabinet.
It is crucial to note that the appearance of the seers and their vehement calls for leadership comes at a time when a faction of the Congress wants three deputy chief ministers representing the major communities.
Housing and minority affairs minister Zameer Ahmed Khan, Public Works Minister Satish Jarkiholi, and Cooperation Minister K.N. Rajanna have all openly supported the proposal for three deputies, apparently to undermine DK Shivakumar’s prominence.
The loss of D.K. Suresh’s home constituency of Bengaluru Rural Lok Sabha constituency was a major setback for Shivakumar. Many had anticipated that Shivakumar would strengthen his bid for the top position, but the defeat of C.N. Manjunath, a cardiologist and the son-in-law of former Prime Minister H.D. Deve Gowda, of the BJP is said to have changed the game for Shivakumar.
Shivakumar persisted in his quest to become chief minister even after leading the party to a resounding victory in the state elections of 2023. Days of talks and meetings with high-ranking officials were required to convince him to give in to Siddaramaiah as part of a deal for power-sharing.
The Congress officials are meanwhile blaming the BJP for allegedly instigating the seers to talk about the leadership in the state. Agriculture Minister N. Chaluvaraswamy charged the BJP with triggering the seers to cover up the party’s inability to retain 27 (of 28) seats in Karnataka in the last Lok Sabha. Also, CM’s economic advisor Basavaraj Rayareddy commented on the matter and opined that religious heads should not make such statements. “People respect them. Rather than imparting religious teachings, asking a person to make a CM based on caste is wrong,” he said.
Over the last week, the Siddaramaiah camp has attempted to upset Shivakumar by raising the issue of an additional deputy chief minister amid calls to replace the chief minister. Reports believe that Chandrashekaranatha Swami’s remark was intended to offset the Siddaramaiah camp’s efforts. Aside from the seer, some of Shivakumar’s supporters have also advocated for him to be appointed chief minister.
The BJP meanwhile has slammed the Congress party for disturbing the governance amid the party’s internal issues. “There is a power struggle going on in the Congress party. There is no governance,” said BJP MLA Ashwath Narayan. Sunil Kumar Karkala, a BJP MLA and state general secretary, claimed that the Congress leaders were battling for power at a time when the state was experiencing a rise in essential commodity prices.
“The pure greed of the Congress party and ministers have derailed development works in Karnataka. Now it’s time for Siddaramaiah vs DK Shivakumar. Let Congress MLAs once and for all tell the public who they want as CM. Karnataka needs a stable government,” Karkala said.
A section of the Congress believes that the statement by the ministers seeking three more Deputy Chief Ministers had been part of Siddaramaiah’s plan to keep Shivakumar in order, amid speculation that he may seek the CM post after two and a half years in office.
A case of love jihad has been reported from Uttar Pradesh’s Saharanpur district wherein a married Muslim doctor posed as Aman Dixit to lure a Hindu girl into his love trap before forcing her to convert to Islam. The Hindu victim, originally from Kolkata, was held captive in a residence near Deoband and ruthlessly assaulted. The accused doctor’s name is Ahabbar Hussain. He has been married five times, and four of his wives are Muslim. On Monday, 1st July, the police filed an FIR against the accused and began an investigation.
This incident unfolded in the Deoband police station area in Saharanpur district. On Monday, the victim filed a complaint with the police and said that she is already married and the mother of a seven-year-old girl. She met Ahabbar Hussain, a Deoband resident who pretended to be a Hindu man named Aman Dixit. Aman ensnared the victim in his love trap. Ahabbar married the victim in Kolkata, following Hindu traditions. The victim also gave the authorities images and videos from the marriage as evidence. OpIndia has video footage of the marriage.

Ahabbar’s friends raped the Hindu woman
Following the marriage, the accused doctor brought the victim to Deoband and locked her in a room. The victim alleged that Ahabbar used to rape her and she was assaulted if she protested. Meanwhile, the accused did not even provide adequate food to the victim. The accused doctor had also installed CCTV in the room, which allowed him to monitor the victim’s activities. Meanwhile, Ahabbar Hussain’s friends also raped the victim. In her complaint, the victim named one Doctor Arif and Shahzad accusing them of raping her on 25th June 2023. The victim woman demanded stern action against the perpetrators.
Victim’s minor daughter forced to convert to Islam
In Deoband, Ahabbar Hussain converted the victim and her 7-year-old underage daughter to Islam. The victim claims to be an illiterate woman from West Bengal who does not know Hindi well. Accused Ahabbar Hussain took advantage of this, and convinced her to sign a document. Later, based on these documents, Aadhar cards were generated for the victim and her daughter. She stated that by the time she learned that Ahaber Hussain was a Muslim, she had already fallen into the accused’s trap.
Victim along with her minor daughter demanded justice
Ahaber Hussain is a paediatrician at the Baby Care Hospital in Deoband. “He should be sent to jail. Otherwise, turn him over to me. I’ll burn him. He has caused us a great deal of pain,” the victim said.
I will commit suicide if I don’t get justice
In her complaint, the victim stated that if stern action is not taken against the accused, Ahabbar Hussain, she will be forced to commit suicide. On this complaint, the police have filed an FIR against Ahabbar Hussain, Shahzad, and Dr. Arif. All of them have been booked for violating Section 376 D of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and Section 5(1) of the Uttar Pradesh Prohibition of Unlawful Conversion of Religion Act 2021. OpIndia has a copy of the complaint. Saharanpur’s Additional Superintendent of Police stated that the required legal action is being taken following an investigation into the case.

Ahabbar Husain’s Muslim wife comes out against him
Meanwhile, Dr. Ahabbar’s ex-wife Fauzia has also come out in the media against him. Fauzia, originally from Saharanpur, stated that she married Ahabbar Hussain 13 years ago. The accused left Fauzia helpless four years ago who is currently raising her two girls alone. Fauzia claims her husband has married five times with her knowledge. She also voiced concern that other than this, Ahabbar may have covertly married many more women. Like the Hindu victim, Fauzia also wants Ahabbar jailed.
Hindu rights groups demand action against Ahabbar Hussain
The Bajrang Dal also intervened in this case. According to Vikas Tyagi of the Saharanpur Bajrang Dal, Ahabbar Hussain is currently living in Deoband with two wives, one of whom is a Hindu victim. One of his wives is believed to reside in Sarsawa, Saharanpur, another in Gangoh, the same district, and the third in Dehradun. Vikas Tyagi called for an in-depth investigation into Ahabbar Hussain’s crimes.
On 2nd June, a tragic incident happened in Uttar Pradesh where over 120 devotees attending a ‘Satsang’ died in a stampede. The incident took place during the Satsang (religious gathering) for a self-styled Godman who goes by various aliases ‘Bhole Baba’ aka Narayan Sakar Hari or Sakaar Vishwa Hari. He is said to be close to several politicians including Samajwadi Party Chief Akhilesh Yadav who has in the past attended his Satsang and hailed him.
Reports suggest that though permission was taken for the event, the number of attendees was several folds more than the administration permitted for. When the Satsang was over the devotees rushed to collect soil from under Narayan Sakar Hari’s feet as he left the stage. Amidst the rush, chaos happened leading to a stampede that caused over 120 deaths. The death toll may rise further.
Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has initiated an inquiry into the matter and sought a report within 24 hours. Prime Minister Narendra Modi was informed about the incident during his ‘Motion of Thanks’ speech in the Lok Sabha. He paused his speech and expressed condolences for the families of the deceased and assured them all support would be provided.
While this is one of the deadliest stampede that has happened in India, history shows that such incidents often happen across the world. Here is a list of some of the deadliest stampedes in India and worldwide.
The 2022 stampede of Seoul, South Korea
In October 2022, on the night of Halloween, around 1,00,000 people gathered to celebrate the festival in the narrow streets of Itaewon district of Seoul, South Korea. The victims were crushed as the crowd surged and soon the sea of individuals collapsed. Over 158 people lost their lives and over 500 were reported injured.

In 2022, on the eve of the New Year, a large number of devotees went to Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine to offer prayers and seek blessings leading to a stampede. As per official reports, the stampede occurred due to a massive surge in the devotees. Around 12 people lost their lives and 14 were injured.

The 2015 stampede of Hajj, Mecca
In September 2015, thousands of people were crushed during a 10-minute-long stampede at Mecca. Reports suggest that at least 2,411 pilgrims lost their lives during the stampede, 3-times higher than the official number released by Saudi Arabia. Hundreds of pilgrims went missing after the stampede. According to the official report, the stampede occurred when two waves of pilgrims converged on a narrow road. Though Saudi Arabia claimed they were prepared for the crowd control and had spent billions for the same, the sheer number of pilgrims made it difficult for the authorities to manage. Among the dead, 120 pilgrims were from India. The highest number of pilgrims (464) who died in the incident were from Iran.

The 2015 stampede of Pushkaram festival, Andhra Pradesh
In 2015, at least 29 people lost their lives and over 60 were injured in a stampede during the Mahapushkaram festival on the banks of the Godavari river in Andhra Pradesh. The incident took place at around 8 AM at Rajamundry soon after then-Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu and his family participated in the holy dip. Reports suggest that some of the pilgrims were trying to retrieve their shoes and fell off leading to the stampede. Tens of thousands of people were pushed forward to bathe in the river. It is believed that over 24 million devotees participated in the festival and a small place like Rajahmundry was not prepared enough to manage the crowd.

2013 stampede of Ratangarh Temple, Madhya Pradesh
In 2013, at least 111 people lost their lives and over 100 were reported injured in a stampede that took place during the Navratri festival near Ratangarh Temple in district Datia of Madhya Pradesh. The stampede was triggered due to a rumour that the bridge that the devotees were trying to cross was about to collapse.
The 2010 stampede of Water Festival in Phnom Penh, Cambidia
In November 2010, at least 340 people died and hundreds were injured during the Cambodia Water Festival in Phnom Penh. Considered to be one of the most joyful events in the Cambodian calendar, the festival turned into a tragedy at around 10 PM on the third and final day of the Water Festival. 240 casualties were women. Though there were no confirmed reports of how the stampede happened, rumours suggest that a fight broke out between the attendees and police used water cannons to disperse them. It led to people rushing to get away from the site and a stampede happened. According to the doctors, suffocation and electric shock were the two main reasons for the death, however, the government dismissed electrocution as one of the reasons.

What causes stampede?
Stampedes or crowd crushes are complex events. Several factors add up leading to stampedes. Some of the key causes are as follows.
Overcrowding and Poor Crowd Management
One of the most significant reasons for stampede is overcrowding. In many cases, the number of attendees of an event exceeds the capacity of the venue of the area where the event is happening. It can lead to dangerous situations. Furthermore, poor planning and crowd management add up to the problem.
Panic and Sudden Triggers
Mass panic and sudden triggers often cause stampede. A rumour, loud noise, or an unexpected event may cause people to move abruptly leading stampede. In yesterday’s event at Hathras, a large crowd started rushing to collect the ‘charan dhool’ or dust at the feet of Bhole Baba for their religious belief. As the Baba’s security personnel prevented the crowd from rushing in towards the godman, people piled on each other, some slipped on a slope leading to an open field and the crowd kept rushing in, stepping over fallen persons, causing many victims to suffocate and die. The SDM’s report on the tragic event elaborates on this. The report states that after the confrontation between Baba’s security personnel and the surging crowd rushing towards the godmen, the crowd started running helter-skelter, causing many to fall and get trampled.

Inadequate Emergency Response
Slow and inadequate response from the administration and law enforcement agencies can cause stampede.
Poor Communication
In a dense crowd, information moves slowly but rumours travel fast. Lack of awareness and poor communication lead to deadly situations. It can cause continued pushing and movement increasing the risk of getting crushed, especially for those who are not physically well.
Environmental and Structural Issues
Narrow pathways and enclosed spaces also cause stampede especially when the crowd grows beyond the capacity of the space.
How to prevent stampede?
Preventing stampedes involves a combination of effective crowd management, proper event planning, and quick emergency response. Key measures include controlling the number of attendees to prevent overcrowding, designing venues with multiple exits and clear pathways, and ensuring robust communication among event organisers and security personnel. Furthermore, it is essential to educate the people attending the event about the safety protocols. Well-trained emergency response team at the site of the event also helps in reducing the risks.

“Higher global markets are setting up a positive open for Indian markets today. Fed Chairperson Powell’s comments gave a boost to US markets with a rate cut in September and December being factored in, even though Powell did not allude to any imminent rate cut. US Treasury yields dropped as well. Positive Asian markets this morning are continuing the advance led by the US markets in Tuesday trading, said Ajay Bagga, Market and Banking expert.
“Overall looking like a positive day for Indian markets. IT stocks are rerating in anticipation of a bottom having been formed in sentiment towards the sector and in expectation of better management guidance this result season. Financials, especially NBFCs and PSU banks were a drag in yesterday’s trading, leadership mantle is moving to lead private sector banks now,” he said.
“The latest Fedspeak on US inflation is also positive news for equity markets globally. Responding to the inflation print of 2.6 per cent with zero month-on-month increase Fed chief Powell yesterday made a dovish remark that the US is on a disinflationary path. The Fed’s next rate action is likely to be a rate cut. RBI also is likely to follow suit with a rate cut in the next policy meeting, said Dr V K Vijayakumar, Chief Investment Strategist, at Geojit Financial Services.
The Nifty 50 index scaled a fresh high on Wednesday, indicating continuation of an upward trend. An intraday move over 24300 could spark a sharp upside to 24400. The broader outlook remains positive, with the index seeking to reach the 24500 level. The immediate support exists at 24000, followed by 23500. Only a breach of 23500 could derail the positive bias. The trend remains upward until the upward rising trend line on the daily chart continues to support the bullish trend, said Avdhut Bagkar, Derivatives and Technical Analyst, StoxBox.
On Tuesday, domestic equity indices ended with minor losses due to profit booking at record highs reached during the session. The Sensex declined by 34.74 points to close at 79,441.45, while the Nifty 50 decreased by 18.10 points, or 0.07 per cent, settling at 24,123.85. Despite this, the overall trend for Nifty remains positive, with further consolidation or minor dips seen as potential buying opportunities, following a bullish pattern of higher tops and bottoms.

On 2nd July, several notorious Islamists and Muslim ‘journalists’ resorted to spreading false claims about the death of a Maulana in the Koderma district of Jharkhand. Posts on social media claimed that Maulana Shahabuddin was mob lynched over allegedly hitting a Hindu woman Anita Devi on the road. The deceased was an Imam at Basramo Turkabad in the Barkatha area.
A report published in The Observer Postclaimed that Shahabuddin was beaten to death by a mob on 30th June when he was returning to his house on his bike near Ghuthari Kariya. The report claims that Shahabuddin was attacked after his bike hit an auto in which a Kathuri Kar resident, Anita Devi was seated along with her husband and brother-in-law. In the accident, the Hindu woman sustained injuries to her nose and hand.
The report further adds that Anita’s husband and brother-in-law gathered some residents and boys playing cricket nearby, who then assaulted the Imam with sticks and batons. The report claimed that the deceased person’s son Mohammed Parvez Alam and Suraj Das, a local leader of All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) alleged that it was a mob lynching and not an accident.
Islamists peddle mob lynching claims to build a narrative that the Maulana was attacked due to his Muslim identity
Soon after, the Islamists online started peddling a false narrative that a Hindu mob lynched the Maulana due to his Muslim identity. In a video going viral on social media, the Maulana is seen bleeding on his face.
A ’journalist’ Naseer Giyas dubbed Shahabuddin’s death as the seventh “mob lynching” of a Muslim a month insinuating that the Maulana was beaten to death due to his Muslim identity.
“This is the seventh mob lynching of a Muslim in a month in India. Maulana Sahabuddin an Imam from Raghuniyadih in Koderma district Jharkhand was lynched by a mob while returning home on his bike,” Giyas posted.
Another ‘journalist’ Waris Masih blamed the Modi government and the ‘godi media’ for the Maulana’s death asserting that the Modi government’s ‘hatred’ for Muslims has fuelled intolerance and violence.
“Modi government & Godi Media are responsible for the tragic death of Maulana Sahabuddin, whose relentless hatred against Muslims & minorities has fueled violence & intolerance. If this tide of hatred isn’t stemmed, a day will come when no one is safe. Wake-up silent majority,” Masih posted.
One Mahmood Ahmad went a step ahead and dragged Hindutva into the matter to insinuate that the Maulana was lynched by a violent ‘Hindutva mob’.
“Jharkhand: Maulana beaten to death by mob in Koderma Maulana Sahabuddin’s bike collided with an auto due to which his bike hit a woman. Her husband Mahendra Yadav called youths from a nearby cricket ground and allegedly beat them up. Hindutva is indeed violent,” Ahmad posted.
Meanwhile, “Hate Detector” also peddled the mob lynching claims in the Maulana’s death case.
“Maulana Sahabuddin, a resident of Raghuniyadih in #Koderma district #Jharkhand was lynched by a mob. He was returning home on his bike when, under the pretext of hitting a woman on the road, a mob brutally beat him to death. No action has been taken so far by @JharkhandPolice,” the X user posted.
One Shahnawaz Akhtar who writes for leftist propaganda portal Scroll, Qatar-based Islamist publication Al-Jazeera among others also copy pasted Meer Faisal’s post to pass off Maulana Shabuddin’s death in accident as a mob lynching.
In an X post, Washington Post columnist Rana Ayyub said that the lynching of Muslims has been normalised to such an extent that it does not get enough media attention. “Pehlu, Aklaq and Junaid received the bare minimum crumbs in this country that their lynching evoked shock and outrage and made national headlines. The lynching of Muslims on the streets normalised to the point that they are not even footnotes in newspapers,” the donation scam accused ‘journalist’ posted.
Pehlu, Aklaq and Junaid received the bare minimum crumbs in this country that their lynching evoked shock and outrage, made national headlines. The lynching of Muslims on the streets normalised to the point that they are not even footnotes in newspapers
While the Islamists online are giving a communal colour to the incident, Jharkhand Police has denied the claims and said that there is no communal angle. The police confirmed that the Maulana, who was rushed to the hospital after the accident, succumbed to his injuries on the way.
“The Imam received injuries due to the accident. There is no communal angle here. He was transported to the hospital in a police vehicle but succumbed to his injuries on the way. His body has been sent for a postmortem,” the police said.
It is pertinent to recall that a similar narrative was peddled earlier this month over separate incidents of killings wherein the victims happened to be Maulanas or Imams. OpIndia reported that Islamists used the killings of three Maulanas in separate incidents to peddle a fake narrative that after elections Muslim clerics are being “targeted and killed” by Hindus over voting for Congress and I.N.D.I. Alliance, however, it turned out that there was no communal angle in any of these cases.
After the Uttar Pradesh police carried out a search operation at Ram Kutir Charitable Trust in Mainpuri district in search of ‘Bhole Baba’, who held a Satsang in Hathras where a stampede took place claiming the lives of around 120 people, Deputy Superintendent of Police Sunil Kumar revealed that Baba ji was not found inside the campus.
“We did not find Baba ji inside the campus…He is not here…” said Deputy SP Sunil Kumar.

“A total of 116 people have died so far…32 bodies were brought here and 19 of them have been identified. We are identifying the rest of them…” said Hathras Chief Medical Officer (CMO) Dr Manjeet Singh.
Congress MP KL Sharma appealed to the state government that when such events are organised, they should ensure the proper safety of the people.
“I want to appeal to the state government that if such events are organised, they should also take care of the preparation and ensure proper safety of the people. I got to know that several women have lost their lives. The compensation amount should have been more, keeping the condition of the family in mind…” said Congress MP KL Sharma.
Reacting to the same incident, Congress MP Imran Masood said, “There are 32 bodies here and nine injured people, including one female police officer. A lot of them are yet to be identified…Right now, everyone is focused on providing relief to those who have suffered…”
Bihar Deputy Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary called the Hathras incident “unfortunate”.”
Speaking to reporters, Samrat Choudhary said, “It is extremely unfortunate. The government is reviewing it. It is unfortunate that so many people lost their lives…”
Meanwhile, an eyewitness in the Hathras stampede incident, Shakuntala Devi said, “There was a Satsang of Bhole Baba going on. Right after the Satsang finished, several people started coming out from there. A stampede took place as the road was uneven and people fell on each other…”
A case has been registered against Congress leader and the leader of the Opposition (LoP) Rahul Gandhi in Bihar’s Muzaffarpur court over his recent anti-Hindu remarks in the Parliament. Divyanshu Kishore, a Hindu outfit leader, filed the case against the Congress leader in the Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM) Court of Muzaffarpur. The court has admitted the plea and the next hearing has been scheduled to take place on July 15.
In the complaint, Kishore accused Rahul Gandhi of hurting the religious sentiments of Hindus. He further alleged in his complaint that the Congress leader made the statement in the Lok Sabha with the deliberate goal to offend Hindus. It is also stated in the complaint that his remarks will incite hostility in the community.
“A case has been filed against Congress leader Rahul Gandhi. Yesterday in the Lok Sabha, he stated the Hindus and my client Divyanshu Kishore had filed the case. The section which has been imposed is 299, 302, 356 (1) under Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) of 2023. The court has accepted the complaint,“ said Sumit Kumar, the complainant’s advocate.
Notably, Section 299 of BNS deals with deliberate and malicious acts, intended to outrage religious feelings of any class by insulting its religion or religious beliefs. Section 302 deals with uttering words, etc., with deliberate intent to wound the religious feelings of any person and Section 356 (1) deals with defamation.
The complaint came following Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi’s contentious remarks in the Lok Sabha on Monday, July 1, where he asserted that those who called themselves Hindus only talked about violence, hatred, and untruth.
On July 1 during the Motion of Thanks, Rahul Gandhi in his maiden speech in the 18th Lok Sabha said, “All our great men have spoken about non-violence and eliminating fear… But those who call themselves Hindu only talk about violence, hatred, untruth…”
His contentious remarks against Hinduism attracted sharp reactions from PM Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah.
A day after a woman along with a man was flogged in public by a local Trinamool Congress functionary in the name of ‘summary Justice’ in West Bengal’s Uttar Dinajpur district, a similar case was reported from the Phulbari area of West Bengal’s Jalpaiguri district. According to Indian Express, the woman reportedly died by suicide after she was beaten up by a group of people from her village panchayat in the Phulbari area. The incident took place in Bogravita panchayat on June 29.
The woman’s husband said, “My wife ended her life by drinking some poisonous substance after some women from the village beat her up in front of the panchayat. I complained to the police that my wife died because of these women as she could not bear the humiliation of being summoned to the kangaroo court and being beaten up publicly.”
The woman allegedly had an extramarital affair with a youth and disappeared from her home ten days prior. Her husband then went to the New Jalpaiguri police station and reported her missing. However, she returned him last Saturday.
After she returned, local women publicly abused and beat her, questioning her character. Her husband was also attacked when he attempted to step in. According to the complaint, the woman was not able to bear the humiliation and ended her life by consuming poison on Monday, July 1.
Victim’s husband accuses Panchayat head and TMC leader for the incident
The deceased woman’s husband was also quoted as saying by Indian Express that after his wife returned, the panchayat head and TMC leader Malati Roy, along with her husband Shankar Roy, called them for a meeting.
When they arrived, Roy’s supporters allegedly attacked both him and his wife. Malati and Shankar Roy denied these allegations, asserting they did not hold a kangaroo court.
“They were to file a police complaint but they instead came to the panchayat. This woman had earlier eloped with another youth. It was probably due to this that their neighbours called and beat her up. We were not even present there. I reached there when the meeting was going on and the woman said she was going to the washroom. After a while we came to know that she drank acid,” Shankar Roy was quoted as saying.
Meanwhile, New Jalpaiguri police station Officer Incharge Nirmal Das said, “Based on two complaints, one by the deceased’s husband and her brother, four persons have been arrested.”
Bahubali leader ‘JCB’ Tajemul kicks, assaults woman and man with sticks during Taliban-style ‘Insaf Sabha’ in Chopra, West Bengal
This case comes a day after a woman’s Taliban-style public flogging in West Bengal’s Uttar Dinajpur district by a TMC leader’s close aide. It all started on Sunday (30th June) when a video shared by CPI(M) leader Mohammed Salim, in which a local Bahubali leader Tajemul is seen assaulting a married woman and a man lying helplessly on the road in the name of ‘summary Justice’ is doing rounds on social media. Sharing the video of the assault, CPI(M) leader and Former Rajya Sabha MP Salim alleged that the main accused seen in the video is a local TMC goon who goes by the nickname ‘JCB’. As the video went viral, a public outcry ensued, with many taking to social media to express their anger and demand justice for the victim. Notably, the police arrested the perpetrator Tajemul alias JCB.
