A second-year student at Anna University was reportedly sexually assaulted by two men on the campus on Monday night, according to police sources.
One of the suspects, identified as 37-year-old Gnanasekaran, a biriyani vendor from Kotturpuram, has been arrested by Chennai Police on Wednesday.
The Kotturpuram police have registered a case under BNSS Section 64 and are continuing their investigation.
The victim, a student at the College of Engineering, Guindy, stated in her complaint that on December 23, around 8 p.m., while she was conversing with a male friend behind a building on the college campus, an unknown individual approached and sexually assaulted her.
She filed the complaint at the Kotturpuram All Women Police Station, where a case was registered, and an investigation is currently underway, according to a statement from the Greater Chennai City Police.
The victim has also filed a complaint with the University’s POSH committee. In response, Chennai Police is collaborating with the University to enhance campus security.
