Three Naxalites killed in encounter with security forces in Chhattisgarh’s Sukma district

In the Sukma district of Chhattisgarh, a fresh encounter broke out on Thursday, 18th December, between security forces and Maoists. According to police, at least three Maoists were killed in this gunfight, which took place in deep forests near the Golapalli Police Station.

This operation was conducted early morning after the DRG received a tip that some Maoists were hidden in that area. When the search team reached the spot, firing started and continued off and on throughout the day.

Sukma’s Superintendent of Police Kiran Chavan confirmed that they retrieved the bodies of three Maoists along with several weapons. He mentioned that the search is ongoing and they will share more details once the operation is fully completed.

This is not the first big conflict in recent times. Just earlier this month, 18 Maoists were killed in a huge encounter near the Bijapur-Dantewada border. Unfortunately, three security personnel also lost their lives in that encounter. That area has been particularly sensitive for quite some time because the government has grown its efforts to sanitise these groups.

If the greater perspective is taken into consideration, it has been an intense year for the region. Since the year 2024 started, over 470 Maoists have been killed across the Bastar division that covers districts like Sukma and Bijapur. Security teams are on high alert as they have continue searching the forest for remaining members.
