In a harrowing incident that has sent shockwaves through the community, a seven-year-old girl was found dead in the basement of an under-construction shopping mall in Ghaziabad’s Raj Nagar Extension area early on Saturday, July 11, 2026. The discovery has ignited widespread outrage, grief, and demands for swift justice, highlighting vulnerabilities faced by children of migrant labourers in rapidly urbanising areas.
The girl’s parents, who work as daily-wage labourers at the same construction site and reside in a makeshift shelter there, reported her missing since Friday evening. Family members, including her maternal uncle, launched a desperate search when she failed to return home. Their worst fears were realised around 1:00 AM when her body was discovered in the building’s basement.
Post-mortem revelations and police findings
A post-mortem examination confirmed the unthinkable: the child had been raped before her death, which resulted from severe head injuries. Her body also showed multiple fractures, consistent with a brutal assault. Police suspect she may have been thrown from the third floor of the incomplete structure, though the precise sequence of events is still being pieced together.
Ghaziabad Police acted swiftly. An FIR was registered under sections covering rape, murder, provisions of the POCSO Act, and kidnapping, based on the family’s complaint. Four to five suspects have been detained for questioning, while two others identified in the case remain on the run. Authorities are intensively analysing CCTV footage from the vicinity and forensic evidence collected by an FSL (Forensic Science Laboratory) team at the scene.
DCP Rural Surendra Nath Tiwari confirmed that senior officers visited the site immediately, and forensic teams gathered crucial clues. ACP Nandgram Priyashree Pal emphasised the rapid response: “Police responded immediately after receiving information. Forensic evidence has been collected, and several suspects are in custody for questioning.” The investigation remains active, with a focus on establishing the full timeline and involvement of all parties.
