Gujarat: Local administration bulldozes illegal farmhouse of Congress leader Altaf Khafi in Jamnagar, building encroached 1200 sq ft of govt land

The local administration in Jamnagar carried out a bulldozer action against a farmhouse linked to Gujcotc accused Altaf Khafi, who is also a Congress candidate in the ongoing municipal elections. The demolition was conducted in the Bangla Wadi area after officials found that the structure had been built by encroaching on around 1,200 square feet of government land.

Authorities said that a notice had been issued earlier, asking Altaf to remove the illegal construction. When no action was taken within the given deadline, the administration moved in with bulldozers and cleared the site. The operation was carried out under tight security, with several senior police officers and a large number of personnel deployed at the spot.

Altaf Khafi is currently in police custody. He was arrested earlier this month along with his associates and was presented before a special court in Rajkot, which granted police remand till 23rd April. He is expected to be presented before the court again after the remand period ends.

Police had earlier launched a major crackdown on the Altaf Khafi and Aslam Khilji gang, registering a case under the Gujcotc Act. In total, 29 accused have been booked in connection with the case. While several have been arrested, some members of the gang, including Abu Sufyan and Osman Khafi, are still on the run and efforts are ongoing to trace them.

Officials have also indicated that more such actions could follow, with other illegal properties linked to Altaf and his associates likely to come under scrutiny in the coming days.

AAP & Congress, both field Gujcotc accused from same ward

In a surprising political development, both the Congress and the Aam Aadmi Party have fielded candidates accused under the Gujcotc Act from the same ward in the Jamnagar Municipal Corporation elections.

Altaf Khafi is contesting from Ward No. 12 on a Congress ticket, while the AAP has nominated Aslam Khilji from the same ward. Both candidates have previously served as corporators. At present, both are in jail in connection with the same case linked to organized crime activities.
