A shocking case has come to light in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh, where a man named Shahnawaz hit a woman named Anamika with a car. The incident happened on Wednesday (September 16, 2026) near Janeshwar Mishra Park in Gomti Nagar Extension, and a video of it went viral on social media. Shahnawaz was arrested and booked for attempted murder.
The viral video shows the woman standing in front of the car and shouting, and suddenly the car starts moving, with the woman clinging to its bonnet. The car accelerated as the woman, who was barefoot, held onto the bonnet and walked backwards to prevent herself from falling. The woman kept yelling at the driver, “Marungi nahi mai, kuch bhi kar lo (I will not die, do whatever you can).”

However, the driver refused to stop the car, despite the woman clinging to its bonnet. He dragged the woman for a few metres until she fell down and narrowly escaped being run over. After the woman fell down, the driver sped away without bothering to stop to check on her. Bystanders, who recorded the entire incident, rushed to help the woman.
According to police, Anamika had been in a relationship with Shahnawaz, who introduced himself to her as Yash Thakur, for a year. Recently, she found out his real identity. On Wednesday morning, she spotted Shahnawaz with another woman at a tea stall near a park. She confronted him, and a heated argument broke out between the two. Shahnawaz tried to leave in his car, but Anamika blocked his way by standing in front of the car. Shahnawaz tried to run her over, as visible in the viral video.
The woman is undergoing medical treatment at a hospital. She submitted a complaint to the police, based on which an FIR was registered against Shahnawaz.
According to Deputy Commissioner of Police (East) Deeksha Sharma, Shahnawaz and a friend of his were present inside the car. They fled the spot after hitting her, but Shahnawaz was caught later by the police.

“This morning, information was received that a young woman was hit by a car near Janeshwar Mishra Park. The police team immediately rushed to the spot. Upon inquiry at the scene, it was revealed that the accused had a prior friendship with the victim. Today, when both parties were present at the location, an altercation broke out between them over a certain issue. Following the argument, the young man and his friend got into a vehicle and fled the scene after hitting the girl. The victim was immediately sent for a medical examination. Based on the formal complaint received, a case under charges of attempted murder is being registered…” DCP (East) Sharma said.
Accused says he hit her in ‘self-defence’
Speaking to the media, accused Shahnawaz claimed that he hit her in ‘self-defence’. He claimed that the woman had been following her for a long time and denied lying to her about his identity.
