On Friday (13th March), the University of Delhi debunked one of the vicious lies peddled by Congress leader Rahul Gandhi for vote bank politics.
For the unversed, Rahul Gandhi has alleged that the prestigious university discriminates against students based on caste and conducts interviews to filter out those belonging to SCs, STs and OBCs.
“I have been to the Delhi university. Interviews are designed to prevent students from securing admission. They will fail you in the interview based on your caste,” the Congress leader brazened out
Interestingly, the University of Delhi does not conduct interviews to admit students to its bachelor’s and master’s programmes.

In a statement, the varsity pointed out, “The University of Delhi admits students primarily based on the CUET scores, and the standard admission process does not mandate interviews for most undergraduate and postgraduate programmes.”
There is no question of discriminating against students during ‘interviews’ as they are not conducted in the first place.
“If the Leader of Opposition was referring to recruitments (such as faculty positions), the University in the recent past has recruited thousands of teachers across all categories,” the University of Delhi pointed out.
It further added, “We strongly object to such comments, as they create a non-conducive environment in the University. The Leader of the Opposition should have verified the facts before making such a statement.”
