Stone pelting by CJP supporters leave 2 cops injured, police detain over 400 SFI goons

On Saturday, October 10, two police personnel were injured during clashes with protesters in central Delhi as security was tightened ahead of the Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) protest demanding the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. Stones were thrown at police personnel near the PTI building in Connaught Place, close to Jantar Mantar, while protesters also clashed with security personnel near Akashwani Bhawan.

According to officials, around 50 protesters had gathered near the PTI building when the incident took place. All of them were taken into custody, police said. The protesters toppled barricades on Imtiaz Ali Marg near Akashwani Bhawan before throwing stones at security personnel.

The incidents took place amid a heavy security deployment across the national capital to prevent any trouble during the CJP demonstration. Delhi Police had not granted permission for the protest at Jantar Mantar, citing security concerns and procedural requirements.

Over 400 SFI goons, lawyers detained ahead of protest

Delhi Police detained more than 400 goons of the Students’ Federation of India (SFI), along with members of other student organisations and lawyers, ahead of the CJP protest.

SFI members toppled police barricades during a march in central Delhi. Meanwhile, members of the All India Students’ Association (AISA) and Left parties held a demonstration outside the BJP headquarters.

SFI national president Adarsh M Saji told PTI that the detentions took place after members began their march at around 10 am. The lawyers and student groups were marching from the Supreme Court towards Jantar Mantar when police detained them.

The CJP protest was called over claims of voter-list manipulation during the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls and irregularities related to Form 6, which is used to register new voters. The party has demanded the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar.

With multiple groups gathering in different parts of central Delhi, police continued to maintain a heavy security presence. Officials said the New Delhi area was peaceful, even as security personnel remained on high alert.

Sub-inspector injured during clash with protesters

A Delhi Police sub-inspector, Bajrang Jadhav, was also injured during the clashes amid the CJP protest. When asked about the incident, he said he was hurt after being pushed while trying to apprehend people involved in the disturbance.

“I was pushed while apprehending the rioters, this caused an injury,” Jadhav said.

The incidents near Connaught Place and Akashwani Bhawan added to the security concerns as police tried to control the gatherings and prevent further clashes. The stone-pelting and the toppling of barricades led to the detention of several protesters.

CJP founder Abhijeet Dipke shares pre-recorded video

Amid the police action, the CJP shared a pre-recorded video message from its founder, Abhijeet Dipke, who had recorded the message on Friday night in anticipation of a possible arrest.

“If you’re watching this video, it means we’ve been arrested,” Dipke said in the video.

Dipke, co-convenor Saurav Das and Ashutosh Ranka are currently in detention. Following their detention, the party announced that Ajinkya Shinde, its national organisation in-charge, would lead the outfit until the three leaders are released.

The announcement was made through a post on the party’s official X account, which also featured Dipke’s pre-recorded message.

In the video, Dipke asked supporters to follow Shinde’s leadership in his absence. The party has said that Shinde will take charge of its activities while its senior leaders remain in detention.

With its top leaders in custody, the CJP has sought to continue its protest under Shinde’s leadership. Meanwhile, police security arrangements remain in place across central Delhi following the clashes, stone-pelting incidents and large-scale detentions.
