A shocking incident in Agra, Uttar Pradesh, has left local residents stunned after a bride made an extraordinary financial demand on her wedding night, triggering a violent escalation that nearly ended in tragedy.
The bizarre incident took place in the Jagdishpura area under the jurisdiction of Jagdishpura police station. According to reports, the wedding had taken place without any incident. But before the couple could proceed with their first night (suhaag raat), the bride reportedly demanded ₹90 lakh in cash from her husband’s family as a condition for consummating the marriage.
The groom and his relatives were left stunned by the unexpected demand and were unable to arrange such a large sum. In response, the bride allegedly collected all her jewellery and other belongings, and returned to her maternal home.
However, the matter didn’t end there. Tensions escalated dramatically when relatives of the bride arrived at the groom’s house the next day. They reportedly locked the groom’s family inside from the outside. When the husband’s family refused to make the payment, the bride’s side allegedly tampered with the PNG gas line and attempted to set the house ablaze, which would have burnt the family inside.
The groom’s family managed to alert the authorities by dialling the emergency number 112. Police arrived swiftly and rescued the family, preventing what could have been a major disaster.
Disturbed by the turn of events, the victim’s family has filed a formal police complaint against the bride and her relatives. Officers from Jagdishpura police station are investigating the matter thoroughly, recording statements from both sides. A senior officer stated that strict action would be taken against those found guilty once the facts are fully established.
