The deceased, identified as Sunil Kumar, a resident of Jianagla village in Bareilly, was killed over an alleged love affair with a girl from the Muslim community in the same village, the family has stated.
Most of the ruckus took place in the Mirzamurad area of Varanasi. Weapons were also used here along with bricks and stones, in which dozens of people have been injured.
The Hindu girl had befriended the Muslim boy while in school where he promised to marry her and had even said she could continue to practice her faith.
In January this year, Tauqir Raz addressed a gathering of 20 lakh Muslims in Bareilly and threatened that Hindus would have nowhere to escape if the rage of Muslims flared. Tauqeer Raza, once an ally of the Samajwadi Party and Congress, was heard as saying, “If we rise, you can’t hide”.
