Wu Zunyou has claimed that the present "wave of the epidemic has already infected about 80 per cent of the people" in the country of 1.4 billion population.

As of January 12, China reported that approximately 60,000 individuals had died from Covid during the past month.

The report said relaxing zero covid policy was a part of Beijing's plan to let COVID-19 spread and create misery for Tibetans.

China's health authorities disclosed that about 60,000 Covid-related deaths occurred in the country between December 8, 2022, and January 12 this year

The imagery captured by Maxar Technologies showed an uptick in activity at funeral homes across six different cities, from Beijing in the north to Nanjing in the east, to Chengdu and Kunming in the southwest. 

WHO has criticised China for understating the extent of COVID-19 outbreak sweeping the country and deaths related to it.

With Covid cases surging in China, several countries have started imposing restrictions on travellers arriving from China. 

The World Health Organisation (WHO) on December 22 expressed concerns over the unprecedented wave of Covid cases in China and asked it to accelerate vaccination of the most vulnerable.
