Leh witnessed violent clashes during statehood protests, leaving dozens injured and reports of casualties. Restrictions were imposed, while Sonam Wangchuk urged youth to maintain peace, ending his strike amid mounting criticism of the Centre’s slow response.

The Leh Apex Body (LAB) and the Kargil Democratic Alliance (KDA) jointly organised the protests, which saw men and women march through Leh's major city despite the frigid conditions.

In his tweet, innovator Sonam Wangchuk said he could not imagine a more responsive government.

"Earlier during winters, we had no option but to fetch water from streams by breaking ice layer," a villager informed.
