Hours after posters of one of the accused persons were allegedly removed by unknown persons, the police on Friday put up the posters of 74 suspects in the Sambhal violence

Massive violence broke out in Sambhal district of Uttar Pradesh on 24th November 2024 after Muslim mobs ran riots and pelted stones at the police over contested Shahi Jama Masjid site.

An Islamist identified as Muhammad Akil while in communication with Pakistan cleric Engineer Muhammad Ali Mirza on YouTube live said that it was Friday and the Islamist mob was furious over the claims of a temple beneath the 300-year-old Masjid.

The masjid committee had approached the Supreme Court seeking direction to the district magistrate to maintain status quo regarding the mosque.

Sambhal Shahi Jama Masjid committee moved the Supreme Court seeking direction to ensure that the status quo is maintained with respect to the private well situated near the entrance of the mosque.

"50 people have been arrested so far in the violence that took place in Sambhal on November 24. The search is on for another 91 people. Some people are yet to be identified, " said SP Bishnoi.

The mosque committee threatened that the state administration would be responsible for any further unrest.
