With active support from churches and ministers in the Meghalaya government, Dorbar Shnong first banned Hindu worship at Mawjymbuin Cave in August 2024.

Spiritual leader and founder of the Art of Living, Sri Sri Ravi Shankar will be performing the consecration of the fragmants of the Somnath Jyotirling. The broken pieces of the Jyotirlinga were being preserved by generations of Agnihotri Brahmins since its destruction. The pieces are still very active and behave like magnets as demonstrated by Sri Sri Ravi Shankar.

Hindu organizations told the police that the accused had deliberately insulted the Hindu God and was last located near the Polyground. The complainant said that the accused shot the video on the same location and uploaded it from his ID named 'Sukkha Maharaj'.

Mawjymbuin Cave has a natural stone formation of Shiva Lingam which is revered by Hindus.

Arfa Khanum Sherwani, who accused Nupur Sharma of committing blasphemy and insulting Prophet Muhammad, was seen casually replacing Shivling with a dustbin in a tweet on Thursday (1st August).

The court pronounced that the accused's derogatory comments on Lord Shiva exposed his malicious intent.
