CJI Gavai ‘clarified’ that he respects all religions. The comments came during the post-lunch session of the CJI-led bench at the Supreme Court on Thursday.
The Supreme Court earlier today stayed several provisions of the Waqf Amendment Act 2025, including one that says encroached govt land cannot be ‘Waqf’ till dispute is resolved.
CJI Gavai said that air pollution is a countrywide problem. He recalled his personal experience of air pollution in Amritsar, Punjab and said that a pan-India policy was required.
While dismissing the case, a bench comprising justices JB Pardiwala and Sandeep Mehta on Wednesday (10th September), said that there is a “clear distinction between rape and consensual sex”.
Justice Vikram Nath remarked that the stray dogs case earned him worldwide recognition, beyond his legal work. He highlighted support from dog lovers and noted how their appreciation, alongside human blessings, now shapes his public identity.
The Supreme Court Collegium has recommended 14 lawyers for elevation as judges of the Bombay High Court, including Raj Damodar Wakode, a relative of CJI Bhushan R. Gavai.
