Communal clashes in Aurangabad after illegal water connection was clamped in ‘place of worship’, reports

Violent clashes broke out in Aurangabad after the municipality clamped the illegal water connection to a ‘place of worship’ on Friday night. According to reports, the violence has since claimed 2 lives and injured 30 people.

The Aurangabad Municipal corporation had on Thursday reportedly clamped the illegal water connection to a ‘place of worship’ in the Moti Karanja area. It was the first day of the drive against such connections. A group of people form a “particular community” were agitated over it and claimed that they were being targetted at the behest of another community. They clashed with the members of the other community in Gandhinagar and the clashed soon reportedly turned into violence where mobs set shops to fire and houses were reportedly attacked with swords.


The police reportedly attempted to control the mob by teargas but the mob started pelting stones at the police where 10 police personnel have been reportedly injured. According to reports the violence soon spread to other areas of the city where the mob pelted stones at the police and burned police vehicles. About 60 shops have bee reportedly damaged during the violence.

According to reports, section 144 has been imposed in the city and additional police force has been brought in from Beed and Nanded. The police have reportedly requested the public not to believe in rumours spread on social media.
