Extortion charges: Woman who had accused Swami Chinmayanand of rape sent to 14-day judicial custody

The law student from Shahjahanpur, who has accused former Union Minister Swami Chinmayanand of raping and physically exploiting her, was charged with extortion on September 20 in a case filed by Chinmayanand.

The law student who had accused Swami Chinmayanand of rape has been arrested and sent to 14-day judicial custody by a local court in Shahjahanpur. As per reports, she was arrested earlier today under charges of trying to extort money from Chinmayanand.

Uttar Pradesh DGP OP Singh informed the media today that the woman was arrested after questioning by the SIT.


The woman was then produced before a local court which sent her to 14-day judicial custody. As per the latest news, she has been brought to the District jail by the police.


The law student from Shahjahanpur, who has accused former Union Minister Swami Chinmayanand of raping and physically exploiting her, was on September 20 (Friday) charged with extortion in a case filed by Chinmayanand. Chinmayanand has already been arrested under charges of rape and physical exploitation. The woman and her associates had allegedly tried to extort Rs 5 crores from Chinmayanand.

The SIT had also taken the remand of the two friends of the woman, Sachin and Vikram under the extortion charges. Another accused in the extortion case, Sanjay Singh, who had allegedly sent a WhatsApp message demanding the ransom of Rs 5 crore from Chinmayanand was also arrested on September 20.

Yesterday, the woman’s lawyer had rubbished the media reports of her arrest. He has stated that they have filed an anticipatory bail application in the court that has been accepted and is due for hearing on September 26.

The woman, a law student, had accused former Union minister and BJP leader Swami Chinamayanand of raping and sexually harassing her. After a huge controversy, Swami Chinmayanand had admitted almost every allegation against him and had stated that he is ashamed.
