“We, too, have entered the fray to abolish Sanatana”: TVK MLA VMS Mustafa echoes Udhayanidhi Stalin’s anti-Sanatana remarks

A fresh political controversy has erupted in Tamil Nadu after VMS Mustafa, an MLA from Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), said that his party follows the ideals of Periyar E. V. Ramasamy and B. R. Ambedkar and had “entered the fight to abolish Sanatana.”

Speaking to reporters, Mustafa said, “We too subscribe to the ideals of Periyar and Ambedkar. We, too, have entered the fray to abolish Sanatana.” His statement quickly triggered reactions from political leaders and social media users.

The remarks came a day after Udhayanidhi Stalin once again repeated his earlier comments about “eradicating” Sanatana Dharma during a discussion in the Tamil Nadu Assembly on Tuesday, 12th May.

“Sanatana Dharma, which divides people, must certainly be abolished,” Udhayanidhi said during the debate. He was referring to the recent swearing-in ceremony of the new government and also said that the Tamil Nadu state anthem was pushed to the third position in the sequence of events instead of being given priority.

Reacting strongly to Mustafa’s remarks, Shanthi Kumar, vice president of Bharatiya Janata Party Telangana, accused TVK of revealing its “real agenda.”

In a post on X, he said, “TVK MLA Mustafa says they entered politics to destroy Sanatana, Udhayanidhi repeats the same old ‘eradicate Sanatan’ line, and silence from Vijay speaks volumes. Hindu votes were taken with folded hands, but now the real agenda is out in the open.”
