A Gandhinagar Sessions Court on Thursday, September 24, granted regular bail to Ravi Nair, who had been taken into custody after a non-bailable warrant (NBW) was issued against him in connection with a criminal defamation case filed by Adani Enterprises Ltd.
The bail application was heard by Principal District and Sessions Judge Abhishek Malhotra. According to the Gujarat court website, the application has been allowed.
The defamation proceedings stem from allegations by Adani Enterprises that Nair published and circulated a series of malicious tweets containing false and defamatory allegations against the company and the wider Adani Group, with the intention of maligning their reputation.
The case had taken a significant turn earlier this year. On February 10, 2026, the Judicial Magistrate First Class (JMFC), Mansa, convicted Nair for defamation and sentenced him to one year of simple imprisonment. The court also imposed a fine of ₹5,000.
Nair subsequently challenged the conviction and sentence before the Sessions Court. On March 9, the appellate court suspended his sentence and granted him bail.
However, the proceedings took another turn after the court issued an NBW against Nair over his non-appearance. On September 3, the appellate court had described Nair as an absconder, observing that he was avoiding arrest in connection with the case.
On September 17, the Sessions Court rejected Nair’s application seeking cancellation of the NBW and directed that he be sent to custody.
Nair also approached the Gujarat High Court, challenging his arrest pursuant to the NBW and seeking interim release. On Wednesday, September 23, the High Court reserved its order on his plea but declined to grant interim relief at that stage.
With Thursday’s Sessions Court order, Nair has now been granted regular bail while his challenge to the conviction continues before the appellate court.
