A disturbing incident came to light on Thursday (October 1, 2026), in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh, where a teenager killed his own mother following a dispute over gender-affirming surgery. The incident happened at Vision Apartment near Rajendra Nagar, under the Naka Hindola Police Station area. The 17-year-old boy himself informed the police after killing his mother following an altercation.
According to police, the minor boy wanted to live as a girl and therefore was adamant about undergoing gender-affirming surgery. This has been a cause of constant conflict within the family. Initial investigation into the case revealed that the teenager had a heated argument with his mother on the day of the incident.
The 42-year-old mother was trying to persuade the boy not to undergo the surgery and instead suggested medical and psychological intervention. The teenager got furious over not being allowed to change his gender surgically and attacked his mother with an iron wrench. The mother sustained grave injuries to her head and passed away. The boy called the police control room from his own mobile phone and informed them about the incident.
When the police arrived at the scene, they found the teenager present beside his mother’s body, which was lying in a pool of blood. The police found and seized the iron wrench he attacked his mother with and arrested the teenager. He was taken for questioning. The police sent the woman’s body for post-mortem. A forensic team, accompanied by a senior police officer, inspected the crime scene and collected the evidence.
Speaking about the matter, SHO Naka Hindola, Vivek Kumar Chaudhary, said that preliminary investigation suggests that the teenager might have been experiencing so-called gender dysphoria. He will be counselled by experts and medical professionals.
The boy’s father said that he had been struggling with a serious mental illness for the past 5 to 6 years. He said the boy underwent a significant transformation and began to perceive himself as a girl. Concerned by the dramatic change in the boy’s behaviour, his parents consulted mental health specialists to improve his mental state. The parents consulted various experts, including those at Noor Manzil and KGMU (Medical College) in Lucknow.
