The Uttarakhand Assembly witnessed a massive uproar on Wednesday (7th February) when a Congress MLA made controversial remarks on the colour of the recently consecrated Ram Lalla Idol at Ram Janmabhoomi in Ayodhya. During the discussion on the Uniform Civil Code (UCC) Bill, Congress MLA from Jaspur, Adesh Singh Chauhan lamented that the Ram Lalla idol has been made black. 

In reply to the BJP Minister’s reference to Ram Mandir in Ayodhya, the Congress MLA said, “The parliamentary work minister made several references to the temple. We welcome the construction of the temple too. But what I could not understand is that we had read in books that our Ram was ‘saanvla’ (dusky) but they made him ‘kaala’ (black).”

Notably, the Ram Lalla idol was consecrated on 22nd January 2024, ending a long wait of around 500 years. The idol has been carved out by Karnataka-based renowned sculptor Arun Yogiraj from Krishna Shila (black stone). According to the officials, the most attractive and durable sculptures are made with Krishna Shila as it is one of the finest stones used for sculpting. The Ram Lalla Shri Vigraha depicts him in the Bal Swaroop (five-year-old child).  

Krishnashila stone is a preferred material to make idols because, due to its chemical composition, it is resistant to acid, heat, and harsh weather conditions. The stone does not react to milk poured on it during Abhishek, thereby it does not pollute the milk and it can be consumed by devotees as prasad. The hard stone can endure over 1000 years without a scratch.

Meanwhile, Congress MLA’s remarks sparked a massive outrage in the state assembly. The treasury benches represented by BJP lawmakers registered their protest against the Congress MLA’s remarks on the Ram Lalla idol. 

Lambasting Congress leaders, the BJP lawmakers blamed Congress for indulging in divisive politics and thus making uncalled-for remarks on the Ram Lalla’s idol. 

In the assembly proceedings, State Minister Prem Chand Aggarwal who is seen sitting next to Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, hit out at Congress MLA Adesh Singh. He accused the Congress party of doing appeasement politics.

The State Minister Aggarwal slammed him saying, “He is making such remarks on Lord Rama. You do anything for votes but I request you not to say such things. Can the Congress only do appeasement and vote bank politics?” He also described the Congress as a party that had denied the very existence of Ram.

The remarks escalated in a war of words between Congress MLA Adesh and State Minister Prem Chand Aggarwal. However, the Assembly Speaker Ritu Khanduri asked the Congress MLA to not deviate from the UCC, which was the subject of discussion, according to PTI.

Following a lengthy debate, the UCC bill was passed today in the Uttarakhand assembly with a comfortable majority during a special session. Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, during the debate on the Uniform Civil Code, said on Wednesday that the state legislature is going to create history with the passing of the Uniform Civil Code and that every citizen of the state is filled with pride.

Punjab man Amritpal Singh killed in terrorist attack in Srinagar, another non-local worker critically injured

On Wednesday (7th February), Jammu and Kashmir Police stated that a non-local who hails from Punjab’s Amritsar was killed while another person sustained critical wounds after terrorists opened fire at the Shaheed Gunj area in Srinagar. Following the attack, security personnel have sealed off the area and police are investigating the incident. They have also launched a manhunt to arrest the terrorists. 

As per reports, the deceased victim has been identified as Amrit Paul Singh (31) — a non-local Sikh who is a resident of Amritsar. The second person who was injured in the attack has been identified as Rohit.

Speaking with news agency PTI, an official said, “Amritpal Singh, a resident of Amritsar, was shot by the terrorists from point-blank range with an AK rifle at Shalla Kadal locality in Habba Kadal around 7 pm.”  

According to the police, Singh died on the spot while another non-local worker identified as Rohit (25) also sustained injuries in the incident. Rohit also hails from Amritsar. 

Police stated that Rohit was hit by the bullets in the abdomen and is undergoing treatment at SMHS hospital.

Sharing details about the terrorist attack, Kashmir Zone Police tweeted, “#Terrorists fired upon a non-local identified as Amritpal Singh resident of Amritsar at  Shaheed Gunj #Srinagar, who #succumbed to the injuries. One more person is grievously injured and evacuated for medical attention. Area has been #cordoned off. Further details shall follow.” In another updated tweeted, it shared the details of both the victims. 

Following the terrorist incident, Former Jammu and Kashmir CM and Chairman of Democratic Progressive Azad Party, Ghulam Nabi Azad condemned the “senseless violence” targeting against “non-locals” and innocents. 

He tweeted, “Saddened by the tragic loss of Amritpal Singh from Amritsar, Punjab to terrorism in Srinagar today. We condemn such senseless violence targeting non-locals and innocent lives. Our thoughts and prayers are with the other injured individuals for a speedy recovery. This cycle of violence must end!” 

Additionally, JKNC President Dr Farooq Abdullah and VP Omar Abdullah also expressed shock and disgust over the barbaric incident.

Meanwhile, certain miscreants on social media have been circulating images of Khalistani terrorist Amritpal Singh, the Chief of Waris Punjab De who was arrested in April 2023 for allegedly carrying out separatist activities. However, the victim Amritpal Paul Singh who died in today’s attack is a different individual and he was a non-local working in Srinagar when he was shot dead by unknown terrorists.

On 3rd February, a throng of radical Muslims threatened to cut off the hands, feet and heads of four Hindu youths in Madhya Pradesh’s Damoh. A group of Muslims gathered in front of the police station and made the threat. There was a lot of ruckus and insults were directed toward the police officers in attendance. Police have registered a case in the matter. A video of the incident has also surfaced online in which Inspector Anand Singh Thakur is seen fearlessly warning the bloodthirsty mob.

The development transpired after four Hindu youngsters and Ansar Khan, a Muslim tailor got into an altercation. An Imam named Hafiz Rizwan Khan arrived at the place after observing the disagreement. The Hindu males were reportedly involved in the argument because their outfits were not sewn on time. Furthermore, Hafiz Rizwan Khan and Ansar Khan were allegedly physically assaulted and the former’s bike was damaged by the young men, according to the Muslim side. The issue was eventually reported to the nearby police station by the imam and the tailor.

The police registered a First Information Report and started a further investigation after receiving the complaint. The word about the assault spread throughout the city by the time the police intervened and took action against the Hindu youths after which hundreds of Muslims flocked to the Kotwali police station. They started pressuring the police to arrest the youngsters within 24 hours and threatened the cops as well as Hindus.

Meanwhile, a man named Akram Rain began inciting his coreligionists through a loudspeaker and declared that Muslims would personally amputate the hands and feet of the Hindus if the police failed to act in the case. He further threatened to behead them. The crowd then began yelling provocative slogans like “Nara e Takbeer Allah Hu Akbar.”

Anand Singh Thakur, the Station House Officer (SHO) of the police station bravely snatched the microphone away from the instigating man and cautioned the Muslims not to interfere with the legal process as he entered the melee by himself. Afterwards, the Muslims infuriated due to Akram Rain’s poisonous rhetoric began attempting to push the official. However, after noticing his steely expression they were unable to put him under duress.

As the frenzied horde reached the police station while issuing threats to chop off hands and feet, SHO Anand Singh Thakur confronted them alone and announced, “I have come alone. I’m standing alone. Put a hand on me. What is the point of threatening to cut off hands when I am assuring that we will take action?”

He tried to reason with them and also warned the agitating Muslims and those threatening to chop off hands and feet to remain calm. Several videos of the whole instance have come out. SHO Anand Singh Thakur’s bravery is being lauded on social media and netizens are referring to him as “Real Singham.”

Akram Rain has been the subject of numerous cases, including ones involving the Arms Act, per Damoh Kotwali SHO Anand Singh Thakur. He made provocative remarks from the loudspeaker after which have filed a complaint against him under sections 153A, 141 and 147 of the Indian Penal Code. According to the officer, he was found in possession of a pistol at the time of his arrest by the police.

The police have registered four FIRs in relation to the entire dispute. A case has also been submitted against the Hindu youths who are accused of beating up the tailor and the imam. In addition, the police have filed a case against forty unidentified members of the Muslim crowd who caused the chaos. Akram Rain, who vowed to cut off hands has also been taken into custody by cops.

National Security Act has been invoked against him. Moreover, Mohammad Intshaar, Sameer, Arif and Rashid have all been apprehended by the police. The people who started the brawl and prompted the uproar in Damoh are being identified based on the video. Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh, Mohan Yadav, has also taken notice of the situation and directed a magistrate’s investigation into the incident.

The Kerala Police have arrested a 26-year-old man who is accused of calling for the murder of female Judge VG Sridevi. The judge has been receiving threats from Islamists for awarding death sentences to 15 PFI-SDPI members in the murder case of BJP’s OBC leader Ranjith Sreenivasan. 

As per reports, the Police arrested the accused Asarikkandy Muhammer Hadi in connection with his social media post calling to kill Judge VG Sridevi. The Peruvannamoozhi police arrested him from his workplace at Perembra. The arrest was made in a case that was filed suo motu by the police. 

Hadi’s arrest was overall fourth arrest in this case. Three accused were arrested earlier this week for insulting and threatening judge VG Sridevi through social media. The accused were arrested a day after the Kerala Police increased the security cover of Judge Sridevi. 

The arrested accused included two natives of Mannancheri in Alappuzha named Naseer Mon and Nawaz Naina while the third accused Rafi hails from Thiruvananthapuram. 

The Alappuzha South Police had earlier registered six cases against miscreants who posted threatening messages against the judge on social media platforms. The accused booked in those cases included Beevi K U, Aslam Valappupacha, Nazeer Mon Khaleel, Azad Ameer, Rafi Thiruvananthapuram, and Shafeeq. 

Murder case of BJP’s OBC leader Ranjith Sreenivasan

Ranjith Sreenivasan, the BJP OBC Morcha state secretary, was brutally attacked and killed in his home on 19th December 2021, in front of his family. The Additional District Sessions Court I, Mavelikkara of Judge VG Sridevi pronounced all 15 accused guilty in Ranjith’s murder case. 

Judge Sridevi deemed the case as falling within the category of the “rarest of rare”.Subsequently, she handed capital punishment to Naisam, Ajmal, Anoop, Mohammed Aslam, Abdul Kalam alias Salam, Abdul Kalam, Saffaruddin, Manshad, Jaseeb Raja, Navas, Sameer, Nazir, Zakir Hussain, Shaji Poovathungal, and Shernas Ashraf on 30th January.

However, soon after pronouncing the verdict, Judge VG Sridevi faced multiple threats to her life from Islamists which led to an increase in her security cover. Additionally, she also became the target of a social media hate campaign by Islamic fanatics affiliated with PFI who posted her pictures online. 

In this case, the police had produced a hit list before the court that was obtained from Anoop’s phone. It became a significant piece of evidence in the matter. More than 150 individuals, including Ranjith Sreenivasan, were named on the list. They also featured the names of numerous leaders belonging to BJP and Hindu organisations.

Congress leader Surendra Rajput spreads fake news, uses cleverly edited video of PM Modi quoting Nehru to claim that BJP is against reservations

On Wednesday (7h February), Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched a scathing attack on the Congress during his response to the ‘Motion of Thanks’ in the Rajya Sabha. In his speech, PM Modi cited a letter written by Jawaharlal Nehru to show how India’s first PM was against reservation. However, in a hilarious attempt at spreading fake news against PM Modi, Congress leader Surendra Rajput shared a cleverly cut segment of the video to claim that PM Modi is against reservation.

Congress media panellist Surendra Rajput tweeted, “What is Modi ji saying? They are against any kind of reservation? Not in the job at all? What is happening in BJP?”

In the video shared by the Congress leader, PM Modi can be heard saying in Rajya Sabha, “I dislike any kind of reservation, more particularly in jobs. I am strongly against anything which leads to inefficiency and second-rate standards”. While Rajput tried to imply that this was PM Modi’s own comments, the fact is different.

The fact it, PM Narendra Modi was quoting Jawaharlal Nehru, and he read the comments on reservation was read from a letter written by Nehru to the CMs of India at that time. During the speech, PM Modi said that he remembers Nehru more these days, and added, “Nehru ji had written a letter to the CMs, and I am reading the translation”. PM Modi said, ‘This is a letter written by the country’s prime minister Pundit Nehru to the Chief Ministers at that time, it is on record’.

After that, he translated the quote in English into Hindi, to demonstrate how Nehru strongly objected to reservation, more particularly in jobs. PM Modi said this shows that the Congress is against reservations since its birth. He further added that Nehru had said that if SCs, STs and OBCs get reservation in jobs, then the standard of govt jobs will go down.

The video of that segment of the seen can be watched below. Surendra Rajput cleverly cut the initial parts where PM Modi said multiple times that he was reading a letter written by Nehru.

He then used it to puncture a hole in Rahul Gandhi citing the lower number of SCs, STs and OBCs in top govt jobs, saying the root cause was the aversion of Congress to recruit them. He said that if they were given jobs with reservations earlier, they would have reached top positions by promotions.

Notably, Nehru had expressed his opposition to reservations in a letter written on 27 June 1961 to the CMs. He had written, “It is true that we are tied up with certain rules and conventions about helping the scheduled castes and tribes. They deserve help but, even so, I dislike any Kind of reservation, more particularly in Services. I react strongly against anything which leads to inefficiency and second-rate standards. I want my country to be a first class country in everything. The moment we encourage the second-rate, we are lost.”

He had then added, “The only real way to help a backward group is to give opportunities of good education, this includes technical education which is becoming more and more important.” Further opposing caste based reservations, Nehru wrote, “But if we go in for reservations on communal and caste basis, we swamp the bright and able people and remain second-rate or third-rate. I am grieved to learn of how far this business of reservation has gone based on communal considerations. It has amazed me to learn that even promotions are based sometimes on communal or caste considerations. This way lies not only folly, but disaster. Let us help the backward groups by all means, but never at the cost of efficiency. How are we going to build our public sector or indeed any sector with second-rate people?”

This shows how much Nehru disliked reservations, and said that the only way to develop the backward group was to give them a good education to make them competent.

PM Modi made multiple references to Nehru during his speech, which has been widely watched and widely reported. But Congress leader Surendra Rajput still attempted to spread fake news by claiming that PM Modi and BJP are against reservations for backward classes.

After Gujarat ATS arrested Maulana Mufti Salman Azhari for an incendiary video that had gone viral on the internet, an Islamic gang that backed the hate merchant jumped to his defence on social media. They claimed that the video that is doing the rounds on social media was edited out of context by Hindu nationalists in an attempt to defame the Maulana. They argued that Azhari had merely spoken about Palestine, not targeting any community.

This gang also includes Mohammad Asif Khan. On social media site X, Mohammad Asif, who has 93.4 thousand followers, posted in support of Mufti Salman Azhari on Monday (4th February 2024). He shared a video (archived link) of Azhari, 1 minute 34 seconds long, claiming it was a conversation about Palestine and Muslim countries. Asif alleges that the Hindu IT cell cropped the video and painted a community as the target with false claims. He also used hashtags in support of Salman Azhari. As of now, the video has garnered over 262,000 views.

After these allegations surfaced, numerous other social media posts emerged, asserting that an edited version of the Maulana’s speech was being circulated online. However, upon investigation, it became apparent that this assertion is unfounded. Contrary to claims, it was discovered that it was not Hindu nationalists but rather Islamists who had edited the clip.

Mohammad Asif and others allege that Hindu nationalists are deliberately sharing only a segment of the clip to tarnish their image. However, the truth is that they have chosen to circulate the same clipped video, pinning the blame on Hindus. They have conveniently omitted any provocative statements made by Mufti in the longer version of the video.

They deliberately shared a video that doesn’t include the instance where the Maulana refers to Hindus as ‘infidels’—a term pejoratively used for describing non-Muslims.

At 1:04 in the unedited video, you can hear Mufti mentioning ‘infidels.’ Then suddenly the clip cuts to “…if we are getting entangled every day, now there is still the final field of Karbala…” Where the cut is made, Mufti Salman Azhari addressed Hindus provocatively. His words were, “These oppressive infidels, who do they think they are?”

In the videos shared by Mohammad Asif and the gang, the part mentioning ‘infidels’ is deliberately removed while they blamed Hindus for sharing a clipped video to malign the Maulana. The truth, however, is that the gang themselves selectively shared the clip.

It should also be noted that the clip Mohammad Asif shared is not the ‘complete speech.’ The entire speech was about 53 minutes long, available online. In the speech, he made many other provocative statements, which can be read in detail here.

On February 7th, Prime Minister Narendra Modi delivered a powerful speech in response to the ‘Motion of Thanks’ in the Rajya Sabha, excoriating the Congress party for pushing a north-south divide in India. He underlined the need for competitive, cooperative federalism and advocated for the collective development of states as an approach to accomplish national growth.

Hitting out at Congress MP DK Suresh on his ‘separate nation for southern states’ remark, PM Modi accused the Congress of creating narratives to divide the country. “Some are trying to divide the country over funds,” PM Modi said in his speech in Rajya Sabha. Referring to the comments by the Congress MP, the Prime Minister said that this kind of mindset that is coming out of a national party is “unfortunate.”

Striking an analogy between the functioning of the country and that of the human body, PM Modi emphasised that even if one state remains destitute and underdeveloped, the nation cannot be deemed developed, just as a non-working bodily part affects the whole body.

“Today I want to share my pain on a specific matter…The way language is being spoken these days to break the country, these new narratives are being made for political gains. An entire state is speaking this language, nothing can be worse for the country than this…what language have we started saying? A nation is not just a piece of land for us. For all of us, it is an inspirational unit…If one limb of the body does not function, the entire body is considered disabled. Similarly, if one corner of the country is devoid of development, the country cannot become developed. The kind of language that is being spoken today, new narratives are being built out of political selfishness to break the country. What can be a bigger misfortune for the country?” PM Modi said.

“If an Adivasi youth from Jharkhand wins a medal in the Olympic games, do we think that he is a child of Jharkhand…the entire country says calls him ‘desh ka bachcha’. [Covid] Vaccine… do we say that the vaccine was made in a particular corner of the country, so the country cannot get it, can we think like this…? Such a mindset is coming out of a national party…”, PM Modi continued.

In a strong and emotional voice PM Modi posed certain questions before the House to emphasise the significance of national unity. “I want to ask..what if Himalaya starts saying these rivers originate from me, I won’t give you [country] their water it belongs to me, what will happen to the country? If coal-rich states start saying that coal is their property and go live in darkness, how will the country function? During the Covid pandemic, the country needed oxygen cylinders, if people of the east had turned adamant that oxygen belongs to them and our people need it…we cannot give it to the countrymen, what would have been the situation of this country? We faced difficulties and supplied oxygen within the country and beyond… It’s unfortunate! Our tax, our money! What sort of language is being used? This is dangerous to the future of the country,” PM Modi added.

PM Modi’s remark came after Congress leader DK Suresh recently sparked outrage after he accused the Centre of not releasing funds to South Indian states. He also went on to say that in future, South Indian states may demand a separate country for themselves and become a separate nation. He said in response to the budget that the money collected from Southern states is being used in Northern states. The Congress MP further warned that if this alleged ‘injustice’ continues, they (Southern states) will be forced to demand a separate country.

PM Modi while slamming the Congress party on Wednesday over fuelling ‘north-south fund fight’ said, “Divisive politics over government funds is dangerous. State politics on national resources is dangerous. We cannot see state funds in a narrow prism. The Congress, which consistently exploited caste, creed, and language fault lines; the Congress that fostered separatism and terrorism for its own interests, the Congress that exacerbated violence, separatism, and underdevelopment in the Northeast; the Congress party whose governance put forth a considerable hurdle in tackling Naxalism; the Congress that ceded substantial national territory to adversaries; and the Congress that impeded the modernisation of our armed forces, is now espousing views on national and internal security” PM Modi said.

Congress and divisive politics go hand in hand

The Congress party has an infamous history of fueling regional divides in the country. In December last year, after suffering a crushing defeat in Hindi heartland states Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh, and Madhya Pradesh, the party ecosystem attempted to justify the failures by fueling the north-south divide. On 3rd December 2023, Congress leader Karti Chidambaram wrote on X, “The South.” This was after Congress was reduced to a shadow of its former self in Madhya Pradesh, lost Rajasthan, a surprising but emphatic loss in Chhattisgarh, but stormed its way to power in Telangana.

In November last year, incumbent Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy fanned the ‘North-South’ rift in an attempt to depose Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao. In a November 2023 interview with India Today, Reddy claimed that the first Chief Minister of Telangana, K Chandrashekhar Rao (KCR), has ‘Bihari genes’ and suggested that he was a better alternative for the state than KCR. “My DNA is Telangana. KCR’s DNA is from Bihar. He is Bihari. KCR’s caste is Kurmi. They migrated from Bihar to Vijayanagaram and then to Telangana. Telangana DNA is better than Bihar DNA,” Reddy said.

In 2020, Rahul Gandhi attacked North Indian states, stating that they had weakened Panchayat Raj.  Rahul Gandhi stated that North Indian states do not empower people as much as South Indian states because North Indian states believe in centralised power, but South Indian states believe in ideals such as Panchayati Raj.

In February 2022, Rahul Gandhi sparked a national debate by challenging the concept of India as a “nation,” which led to accusations that he was inciting sub-nationalism. Speaking in Parliament on the motion of appreciation to the President’s Address in Lok Sabha, Congress MP Rahul Gandhi argued that India was only a “union of states” rather than a nation.

While Congress party may launch numerous Bharat Jodo and Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatras, its perennial divisive approach towards Bharat and its people remains unchanged over the years be it on regional, religious or caste lines.

The Uniform Civil Code (UCC) Bill was passed today in the Uttarakhand assembly with a comfortable majority during a special session.

Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, during the debate on the Uniform Civil Code, said on Wednesday that the state legislature is going to create history with the passing of the Uniform Civil Code and that every citizen of the state is filled with pride.

The Uniform Civil Code which proposes similar or uniform laws for all communities, was tabled yesterday during the special session by the Chief Minister.

“Today, I want to congratulate all the people of the state on this occasion, because today the legislature of our Uttarakhand is going to create history. Being witnesses to this historical moment today, not only this House but every citizen of Uttarakhand is filled with pride. It is a feeling. Our government had promised to bring a uniform civil code to Uttarakhand to realise the mantra of ‘One India, a Better India’,” CM Dhami said.

The Chief Minister thanked all assembly members, including those of opposition, for sharing their thoughts on the UCC.

“The godlike people of the state have given us the opportunity to fulfil this objective; he gave his blessings and gave us a chance to form the government again. Immediately after the formation of the government, in the first cabinet meeting itself, an expert committee was constituted to create a uniform civil code. On May 27, 2022, a five-member committee was constituted under the leadership of retired Supreme Court judge Ranjana Prakash Desai. This Jan Samvad Yatra, which started in the border village of Mana, ended in New Delhi after about nine months by conducting 43 Jan Samvad programmes,” CM Pushkar Singh Dhami said.

“More than 2.32 lakh suggestions were received. About 10 percent of the families in the state gave their suggestions for the formulation of a law. It is a direct proof of the awareness of the godlike people of our state,” he added.

The Chief Minister further asserted that the ‘Ganga’ of equal rights emerging from the House will nurture the lives of the citizens.

“Just as the Mother Ganga emerging from this Devbhoomi irrigates all the living beings living on its banks without any discrimination, this Ganga of equal rights emerging from this House will nurture the lives of all our citizens. We will ensure constitutional rights,” he said.

CM Dhami stated that the UCC is not an ordinary bill but an ‘outstanding’ one.

“It is a dream that is going to become reality and will start in Uttarakhand,” the Chief Minister said.

Meanwhile, taking potshots at the previous state and central governments, CM Dhami said, “A long period of time passed. We celebrated Amrit Mahotsav. But the truth was not accepted even after the Shah Bano case of 1985. The truth for which Shayara Bano struggled for decades… The truth that could have been achieved earlier but was not done for reasons unknown… Why were the attempts to bring about the Uniform Civil Code not made even when there were governments with full majorities? Why the women not given equal rights? Why was the vote bank kept above the country? Why the differences between the citizens allowed to continue? Why was a valley dug between communities?”

The CM added that the Uniform Civil Code Bill can be amended in the future if there is a need to include specific clause.

“We can amend UCC (act) in future if there is need to include specific clause,” CM Dhami said.

The bill contains the laws relating to marriage, divorce, succession, live-in relationships, and related matters. Among the many proposals, the Uniform Civil Code Bill makes it compulsory for live-in relationships to be registered under the law.

Once the proposed UCC Bill is in place, “live-in relationships” will have to get registered under the law within 1 month from the “date of entering into the relationship.” To live in a live-in relationship, adults will have to obtain consent from their parents.

The bill also imposes a complete ban on child marriage and introduces a uniform process for divorce. The Code provides equal rights to women of all religions in their ancestral property.

As per the UCC Bill, the age for marriage will be 18 for women and 21 for men in all communities. Marriage registration is mandatory in all religions and marriages without registration will be invalid.

No divorce petition will be allowed to be filed within one year of marriage. Highlighting the ceremonies for marriage, the proposed UCC Bill noted that marriage may be solemnised or contracted between a man and a woman in accordance with religious beliefs, practices, customary rites and ceremonies including but not limited to “Saptapadt”, “Ashirvad”, “Nikah”, “Holy Union”, “Anand Karaj” under the Anand Marriage Act 1909 as well as under, but not limited to, The Special Marriage Act, 1954 and Arya Marriage Validation Act, 1937.

However, nothing contained in the proposed UCC Bill will be applied to the members of any Scheduled Tribes within the meaning of clause (25) of Article 366 read with Article 342 of the Constitution of India and the persons and group of persons whose customary rights are protected under Part XXI of the Constitution of India.

In a bold assertion made in the Uttar Pradesh State Assembly, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath likened Shri Krishna’s ‘peace’ offer to the Kauravas in Mahabharata to the demands of Hindus to reclaim three holy sites, namely Ayodhya, Mathura, and Kashi. While Ayodhya has been handed over to Hindus by a Supreme Court order and a grand Ram Mandir has been built, Muslims still occupy the Hindu holy shrines of Gyanvapi in Kashi and Krishna Janmabhoomi in Mathura.

UP CM Yogi drew this parallel while addressing the state assembly during the ongoing budget session. During his address, CM Yogi recalled the Mahabhartha incident where Shri Krishna asked the Kauravas to give just 5 villages to the Pandavas, which was declined by Kauravas-led by Duryadhana. 

Citing the Mahabharata episode, CM Yogi argued that just like Pandavas demanded only 5 villages, Hindu society only demanded three special places. He explained that they are special places because they are places of incarnation of the Hindu deities or sites of great reverence for Hindus. He added that disputes arise because of vote bank politics.

The CM said in the assembly, ‘Ayodhya faced injustice… Pandavas too faced injustice. At that time, Krishna went to the Kauravas and sought only five villages. Keep the rest with yourself. Pandavas were ready to be happy with just five villages, but Duryodhan didn’t agree to that. Instead, they tried to imprison Lord Krishna. This is what happened with Ayodhya, Kashi, Mathura…Krishna wanted five villages and the Hindu society has been seeking only three centres — the centres of our faith.’

Yogi Adityanath said that three sites of Ayodhya, Mathura and Kashi are not ordinary places, and they are very significant for the believes of Hindus. “These three centres are very special to the faith. There is a determination and when politics gets involved in it, it creates division,” Adityanath said.

We are asking only three places, there is no demand for the other places, he said.

Notably, while there are around 40,000 Hindu temples demolished by Islamists to build mosques, the three sites at Ayodhya, Madhura and Kashi are the most important ones. Consequently, there is a feeling among some people that if Muslims give the Mathura and Kashi sites to Hindus, there will be no demands for other thousands of sites, due to their relatively lower importance.

Just a few days back, Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Tirtha Kshetra treasurer Govind Dev Giri Maharaj said that the Hindu community will forget issues related to all other temples destroyed by Islamist invaders if Kashi and Mathura are handed over peacefully to Hindus by the Muslim side. Now, UP CM Yogi Adityanath is also making a similar demand.

We fulfilled our vow, Mandir wahi banaya, says UP CM

CM Yogi reiterated that the vow was intact and has been fulfilled as “Mandir wahi Banaya hai”, Mandir has been built at the site which Hindus believe is the birthplace of Shri Ram. 

He said, “Everyone was satisfied with Ayodhya that whatever has happened has happened for the good. It was an unforgettable moment and everyone was feeling proud. Because after a long struggle of 500 years, a solution was found with consensus and today the construction of the grand temple of Ramlala was not only completed but Ramlala was established there. This was the first incident in the world where the Lord himself had to gather evidence for his own existence but the dignity of Ram inspires us to patience. We were happy that we kept our promise and built the Mandir there itself. We demonstrate on what we speak and full the resolution.” 

He also highlighted the initiatives of his state government in Ayodhya including the annual festive event of Deepotsav and the all-round development of the city as a spiritual tourist place. 

CM Yogi also recalled that critics were averse to Ayodhya. He stressed that the dispute was restricted to a particular place not to the entire city which didn’t hinder its development. 

During his address, CM Yogi noted that Injustice was meted out with holy cities like Ayodhya, Kashi, and Mathura. He added that the Ayodhya city was prone to curfew in previous governments. 

In a scathing attack on the opposition, CM stressed, “…Ayodhya city was brought within the purview of prohibitions and curfew by the previous governments. For centuries, Ayodhya was cursed with ugly intentions. It faced a planned disdain. Such treatment of public sentiments was perhaps never seen anywhere else. Ayodhya faced injustice. When I speak about injustice, we recall the 5000-year-old thing. Injustice was done even to the Pandavas at that time…That had happened with Ayodhya, Kashi, and Mathura…”, during which he drew the parallels with the current times and Mahabharata. 

He also pointed out the earlier myths of the incumbent CM losing elections if they visit places like Noida and Bijnor. He explained that when life itself is not eternal, how can any government be eternal? 

In his address, the UP CM also slammed the opposition stating that Public faith was insulted in the country. He added that the opposition didn’t say anything on a special and happy occasion like the construction of Ram Mandir rather it always tried to divert people’s attention. CM Yogi further emphasised that the construction of the Ram Mandir should have begun in 1947 soon after India attained Independence.

‘Idols don’t drink milk, Hindus pour it down the drain’: Muslim youth maligns Hindu Gods and rituals at ‘Gareeb Nawaz’ event where calls were made to release Azhari

On 6th February, a Muslim cleric from Uttar Pradesh instigated a crowd of Muslim men in Mumbra by calling for violence. Sayed Shabahat Hussain Qadri said that the Barelvi Muslims stand with hate preacher Maulana Salman Azhari and that they will “not tolerate injustice” to the cleric.

Hussain also asked the Muslim youth to not live in fear and that those who are ready to get their throats slit in the name of prophet mohammad can do anything.

Maulana Salman Barelvi was arrested by the Gujarat Police in Mumbai for delivering a hate speech against the Ram Mandir and Hindus in Junagadh.

Sayed Shabahat Hussain Qadri was speaking at the “Gareeb Nawaz” event in Mumbra. The event was streamed for about 3 hours and 35 minutes on YouTube of which Hussain’s address was approximately 37 minutes or so.

One of the speakers at the event was a Muslim youth donning a kameez and a skullcap talking about how Khwaja Gareeb Nawaz has spread Islam in India. Khwaja Gareeb Nawaz is another name for Khwaja Moinudding Chishti of the Ajmer Sharif Dargah.

He demonises and maligns Hindu rituals at the very beginning of his speech. “There is a ritual of Hindus, a ritual of non-Muslims. They take milk in a pitcher pot. A father used to go every day to offer milk. It is no matter to them that the milk goes down the drain but they won’t let a drop of that milk go into a child’s stomach. What kind of a religion is yours (Hindus’) that a child would keep suffering from hunger and your milk will keep flowing down the drain, Allah-hu-Akbar. This is their (Hindus) religion, they know better,” he said.

This Muslim youth immediately says that his religion (Islam) is a true religion. “The people who link this religion (Islam) to terrorism, pray tell that the religion which gives jannat (heaven) for just moving a brick from the road, which other religion would be truer than this (Islam)?” he declared.

This was followed by loud chants of jihadi slogan “Nara-e-takbeer, allah-hu-akbar” which translates to “slogan of Allah is greatest, Allah is greatest”. This Islamic slogan is also a jihadi slogan which categorically outlaws holding any other god above or even equal to allah as per Islam.

It must be mentioned that this Muslim youth at the mic was surrounded by young Muslim boys and some girls too.

The youth continued his story about a Pandit who used to offer milk to the temple deity (Shiva Linga). He says that one day the daughter of the priest went to the temple to offer milk but “she did not know that milk is poured on the deity”.

“So she sat there with the pitcher pot and asked her Bhagwan to drink the milk,” the Muslim youth said in a delirious speech adding, “But idols do not drink milk. When the Bhagwan didn’t hear her repeated requests, she began to hit her head thinking that she is being punished. That is when Khwaja Gareeb Nawaz passed by, and inquired about the girl’s troubles, twisted Bhagwan’s ear and ordered Him to drink the milk she was offering. Such was the magic of Khwaja Gareeb Nawaz,” the youth said.

The radical youth went on to form a vitriolic anti-Hindu narrative in order to show the “greatness” of Khwaja Gareeb Nawaz and Islam.

“When the villagers saw the daughter of the priest bloodied, they said she was violated. The priest inquired about her injuries. She replied narrating the entire incident. To this the priest said that we could not feed milk to the idol all our life, how did you do it? The villagers on hearing this said to the priest that his daughter had lost her self-respect. They ask the priest’s daughter to prove the next day that she fed milk to the idol. The villagers, the priest and his daughter go to the temple the next day. The girl against calls on the Bhagwan to drink milk. She finally threatens the deity that if He does not drink the milk, she will call the man from yesterday. Listening to this, the idol extends its hands and starts drinking the milk. The priest and the villagers are astonished and start inquiring about the Khwaja. They find him nearby and the priest places his head on the feet of the Khwaja. Finally, the entire village asks Khwaja Gareeb Nawaz to convert them in to Muslims,” the Muslim speaker said.

It is appalling to say the least how this man suggests that Hindus converted voluntarily after being enchanted by Khwaja Gareeb Nawaz’s “divine” magic when it is not lost upon anyone that Islamist invaders converted several Hindus holding a knife to their throat.

Stories like these are concocted to show the Hindu faith as mere superstition as against Islam where that very superstition suddenly gets justified because a Muslim “saint” made a “divine” intervention.

After a bunch of Islamists who addressed the crowd, another speaker collected money and asked the crowd to give more money in the name of the “ulema” (Muslim scholars) present on the stage namely Sayed Shabahat Hussain Qadri.

It is to be noted that the arrest of Maulana Salman Azhari has had no impact on the radical jihadis in the Muslim community. These speeches from 6th February in Mumbra show just how radicals continue to be above the law.

It is tough to say whether the purported story stated above as narrated by the Muslim youth is a narrative first told by Muslims or left liberals in India. Either way, jihadis are continuing their mix of threats, bloodshed and narrative against “infidel” Hindus.
