United Kingdom’s Queen Elizabeth II has died at the age of 96 after a prolonged illness. Queen Elizabeth breathed her last at the Balmoral Castle in Scotland. The monarch was facing health problems since October 2021 that left her with difficulties walking and standing.
Her doctors grew concerned about her health on Thursday 8th September 2022, when she canceled her scheduled meeting with her Privy Council. The Queen’s reign started on 6 February 1952 and she ruled for longer than any other Monarch in British history.
In an official statement, the Royal Family’s website said, “The Queen died peacefully at Balmoral this afternoon.” With the death of the Queen, Prince Charles has become the King, and Camilla has become the Queen Consort. The same official statement announcing the queen’s death said, “The King and The Queen Consort will remain at Balmoral this evening and will return to London tomorrow.”

In a statement issued after the death, King Charles said, “The death of my beloved Mother, Her Majesty The Queen, is a moment of the greatest sadness for me and all members of my family. “We mourn profoundly the passing of a cherished Sovereign and a much-loved Mother. I know her loss will be deeply felt throughout the country, the Realms and the Commonwealth, and by countless people around the world.”
He further added, “During this period of mourning and change, my family and I will be comforted and sustained by our knowledge of the respect and deep affection in which The Queen was so widely held.”
Although he has become the king automatically according to the provisions of Bill of Rights of 1689 and the Act of Settlement of 1701, there must be a formal proclamation of him as the new monarch at an Accession Council in St James’s Palace in London as soon as possible. 73-year-old Charles III becomes the king after being the longest-serving heir apparent of the nation.
Elizabeth was born on 21 April 1926 at 17 Bruton Street in Mayfair, London. She was the first child of The Duke and Duchess of York – who later became King George VI – and Queen Elizabeth. Her grandfather King George V died in 1936. His eldest son came to the throne as King Edward VIII, but, before the end of the year, King Edward VIII abdicated the throne. Upon his abdication, Princess Elizabeth’s father acceded to the throne as King George VI.
Elizabeth married The Duke of Edinburgh, Prince Philip in a ceremony at Westminster Abbey on 20 November 1947. The early years of their marriage saw them living a relatively normal life as a naval officer and wife. Prince Charles, now The Prince of Wales, heir apparent to the throne, was the firstborn child of the couple, born in 1948.
On 6 February 1952, King George VI died following a prolonged illness. Princess Elizabeth immediately acceded to the throne, becoming Queen Elizabeth II. Her Coronation took place in Westminster Abbey on 2 June 1953. On 9th September 2015, the Queen became Britain’s longest reigning monarch.

A 24-year-old youth named Shahrukh has been arrested by police in Rudrapur of Udham Singh Nagar district in Uttarakhand for harassing and threatening a girl. The accused had threatened to burn the girl to death like the recent case from Jharkhand if she refused to marry him.
Shahrukh had visited the victim’s house a year ago to install CCTV cameras at the premises. At that time he hid his real identity and introduced himself as Rajkumar. Shahrukh befriended the girl using this fake identity and even started coming to her house regularly. He even proposed marriage but at that time, the girl came to know about his real identity and refused to marry him.
The girl also found out that he has ruined the lives of many women after trapping them like this. Following this, she stopped talking to Shahrukh.
Once the girl stopped talking to him, Shahrukh started threatening her and even tried to blackmail her. For the last 2 months, he was harassing the girl and even threatened to burn her after pouring petrol on her, like the girl from Jharkhand. On September 7, Shahrukh called the girl and threatened to kill her if she didn’t come to meet him. When the girl came to meet him, he molested her and tried to force her to accompany him.
The girl raised an alarm after this and passersby gathered, helping the girl to escape. After this, the girl filed a police complaint against Shahrukh. Based on her complaint, the police registered an FIR under sections 153A, 323, 354, 354A, 354 D, 417, 420, 504, 506, and 386, and arrested the accused.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday evening inaugurated the revamped Central Vista Avenue and the Kartavya Path, which has been renamed from Rajpath. The Prime Minister also unveiled the statute of Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose installed at the India Gate hexagon. The jet-black granite statue has been placed under the Grand Canopy located at the centre of the Hexagon, between India Gate and the National War Memorial.

Elaborating more on how India is getting rid of colonial symbols, Prime Minister Modi said, “Today, the country has changed hundreds of laws that have been going on since the British era. Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose, who made a significant contribution to the Indian freedom movement, is being honoured with the statue at the India Gate canopy, which hosted a statue of King George V until 1968. According to an official announcement, the 28 feet tall Netaji sculpture being installed was cut from a 280 MT monolithic granite slab.
The installation of the statue of Netaji was announced by the PM on 21st January this year, and on 23rd January, on the occasion of Netaji’s birthday, a hologram statue of Bose was unveiled at the same location by the PM.

The granite monolith was sculpted to form a monument weighing 65 MT after 26,000 man-hours of rigorous artistic effort. The statue is entirely hand-sculpted, employing both traditional and contemporary techniques. Arun Yogiraj headed the team of sculptors that created the statue. A 100-foot-long vehicle with 140 wheels was exclusively developed to transport this monolithic granite slab from Khammam, Telangana, to New Delhi.
The Canopy at the India Gate Hexagon was designed by Edwin Lutyens, and it originally housed a marble statue of King George V. The statue was retained in that place for two decades after the independence of India by the Congress government, despite demands to remove it. King George V’s statue was finally removed from India Gate in 1968, and was shifted to Coronation Park. Since then, the canopy remained empty, with various proposals to install statues of various personalities, but none of those materialised. The proposals included statues of Mahatma Gandhi, Jawaharlal Nehru, and even Indira Gandhi after her death. Finally, it took the Narendra Modi government to install Netaji’s statue at the empty canopy.
The arrival of the Prime Minister at the canopy for the installation of Netaji’s monument was preceded by traditional Manipuri Shankh Vadayam and Kerala’s Panch Vadayam and Chanda. The unveiling of Netaji’s statue was accompanied by the traditional INA hymn ‘Kadam Kadam Badhaye Jaa.’ On September 9, 10, and 11, a unique 10-minute Drone Show on Netaji’s life will be shown at India Gate at 8 p.m. All these functions will be free to the public.
Just like replacing Netaji’s statue with King George V’s statue marked the end of a colonial legacy, another colonial legacy was ended with the renaming of Rajpath as Kartavya Path. During British Raj, this road was known as Kings Way, and it was changed to Rajpath after Independence. Similarly, the Queen’s Way was renamed Janpath.
After unveiling the Netaji’s statue, the Prime Minister inaugurated the completely redesigned Kartavya Path, formerly known as Rajpath, one of India’s most famous roads, which runs from the Rashtrapati Bhavan past Vijay Chowk, India Gate, and ends at the National War Memorial in Delhi. Every year on January 26, the Republic Day parade is held on this road. The renaming was done in accordance with Prime Minister Modi’s Independence Day address, which advocated for the abolition of colonial symbols.
Central Vista Avenue
After inaugurating the statue, Prime Minister Narendra Modi witnessed an exhibition at Central Vista Avenue. During this time, PM Modi met the workers involved in the development of this project and interacted with them. The Central Vista project involves the reconstruction of Central Vista Avenue, which runs between the Rashtrapati Bhavan and the India Gate and houses all of the union government’s significant buildings. The redesigned Kartavya Path is part of the larger central vista redevelopment project, which includes a new parliament building which is already almost complete, new secretariate buildings on both sides of Kartavya Path that will house employees of all ministries of the union govt, new residence and office for the Prime Minister, new residence for the Vice President, a central conference centre, and expansion of the national archive. For 10 central secretariate buildings, existing buildings housing various ministries and the vice-president’s residence will be demolished.
The development of central vista included the development of Kartavya Path and the surrounding region, which is usually accessible to the general public, as well as the creation of public utilities. Old trees along the path have been retained, while dead trees have been removed and new trees planted. The lawns on both sides of the path have been redeveloped and stone walkways made in the entire area, so that people don’t need to walk on the lawns.
The canals on both side of the road also have been restored, and new bridges have been built over them.
Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose – The unsung hero of the Indian independence struggle
As various visionaries are recognized as heroes of the Indian Freedom Struggle, Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose is the one who left a significant legacy but is less renowned than others. Though much is known about Netaji’s role in the liberation movement, it is important to remember that it was Netaji who envisioned India that we see today.
A number of facts demonstrate Netaji’s repudiation by the mainstream torchbearer party of the Freedom movement. One of them was when Netaji was elected president of Congress in Haripura in 1938. Netaji had been campaigning against the British government’s federal concept, as outlined in the Government of India Act 1935. Unlike other sections within the party who were in favor of accepting the new compromises from the British, he had proposed a mass action for ‘Purna Swaraj.’ However, the old guard, including MK Gandhi, ignored his suggestions.
As a result, he ran for re-election to the presidency in the following annual Congress session, which would be held in Tripuri. Interestingly, Netaji defeated Gandhi’s candidate, Pattabhi Sitarammayya (1,575 to 1,376 votes). Consequently, the whole Congress working committee (CWC) resigned. Thereafter, he was shunted out of the Congress party because he had the charisma and ability to win an election against the wishes of Mahatma Gandhi.
The mystery behind Netaji’s death
On August 18, 1945, Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose inexplicably disappeared when a Japanese aircraft flying him crashed in Taiwan. He is said to have died from third-degree burns. It was never proven, though.
Because his final days are unknown, there are various speculations concerning his location and what happened to him. Some allege that Netaji Bose was in Russia until at least 1968. Bharatiya Janata Party leader Subramanian Swamy further alleged that Stalin was involved in “murdering” Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose, who did not die in an aircraft accident in 1945. He further asserted that Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru was aware that Bose was being held captive in Russia before to his murder. India had requested that Russia inquire into any Bose-related information they may have, yet it was futile.
On 8th September 2022, Punjab police busted a major terror module in Tarn Taran. Three persons possessing 1.5 kg IED-RDX and two pistols were arrested by the Punjab Police. The three accused were in touch with Canada-based gangster Lakhbir Singh Landa and Pakistan-based terrorist Harvinder Singh Rinda. This information was given by Punjab’s Director General of Police (DGP) Gaurav Yadav. Police have also identified 25 other operatives of the terror network.
According to a report by Amar Ujala, DGP Gaurav Yadav informed that the arrested accused include the main culprit of installing improvised explosive devices (IEDs) in the Shahbad area of Haryana’s Kurukshetra district. He has been identified as Nachhatar Singh alias Moti of Bhattal Sahaj Singh village in Tarn Taran. The other two arrested accused have been identified as Sukhdev Singh alias Shera, a resident of Gandiwind village, and Harpreet Singh alias Happy alias Billa, a resident of Nowshera Pannuan village in Tarn Taran.
Police have recovered an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) from them. Detonators, RDX weighing 1.5 kg, two pistols of .30 bore and .315 bore, eight cartridges, and an unnumbered bike have also been recovered from the arrested accused. The DGP said, “As per the preliminary investigation, it has come to light that the three accused were in direct contact with Lakhbir Landa and were involved in extortion and large-scale cross-border smuggling of arms, explosives, and drugs.”
Tarn Taran SSP Ranjit Singh Dhillon said, “Following credible information, a police team from Sarhali police station conducted an operation to arrest these culprits and recovered two pistols from their possession. Later, according to the information told by Nachattar Singh during the primary interrogation, police teams also recovered an IED hidden outside Ratok village in Tarn Taran.”
The SSP said that the Landa-Rinda gang has a network of around 40-50 operatives. Of these, 25 operatives have been identified and a search operation has been launched to nab them. “Further investigation is on and further recovery of arms and explosives is expected”, he said.
All of them have been booked under sections 389, 25(6), 26(7)(i) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), sections 4 and 5 of the Explosives Act, and 21, 31-59-85 of the NDPS Act at police station Sarhali in Tarn Taran.
Lakhbir Singh Landa (33) hails Tarn Taran, he fled to Canada in 2017. He was the one who planned the Rocket Propelled Grenade (RPG) terror attack on the Intelligence Headquarters of Punjab Police in Mohali. An IED was also planted at his behest under the car of sub-inspector Dilbagh Singh in Amritsar. He is believed to be an associate of Pakistan-based wanted terrorist Harvinder Singh alias Rinda.
On the intervening night of September 7 and September 8, a man was hacked to death by a group of four men, including two Nihang Sikhs, outside a hotel close to the Golden Temple following an argument over smoking.

The CCTV footage of the incident has gone viral on social media. The deceased has been identified as Harmanjit Singh of the Chatiwind area. As per the reports, an argument broke out between Harmanjit and four other men, including two Nihang Sikhs, over smoking. The argument turned violent, and the man was allegedly assaulted with a sharp-edged weapon by the Nihangs, which led to his death on the spot.
In the CCTV footage, the victim was seen sitting on a bike next to an e-rikshaw when Nihangs stopped him, and they got into an argument. Within a few minutes, the argument turned violent and went into a fistfight. However, the Nihangs overpowered Harmanjit and pushed them to the side of the road, where he was allegedly attacked with a sharp-edged weapon.
Deputy Commissioner of Police Mukhwinder Singh Bhullar said in a statement that the accused had been identified, and one of them was arrested by the Police.
In recent times, Nihangs have made headlines for several such incidents. In April 2020, Nihangs allegedly chopped the hand of a Police officer after he stopped them. Three other Police officers were also injured.
In October 2021, Nihangs allegedly killed and mutilated a labourer for the alleged sacrilege of Sarbloh Sahib at a farmer protests site at the Kundali border, Delhi.
On Wednesday, US President Joe Biden approved $450 million in financial aid to Pakistan to sustain a fleet of F-16 fighter jets, overriding the decision taken under previous President Donald Trump. This assistance is being provided to Pakistan in order for it to deal with existing and future counter-terrorism operations, according to the Defense Security Cooperation Agency.
In 2018, Trump halted aid to Pakistan
This is the largest security assistance given to Pakistan in the last four years. Significantly, the Trump administration suspended approximately $2 billion in financial assistance to Pakistan in 2018. The US had stated then that Islamabad was not a participant in the war against terrorism.
The United States recognizes Pakistan as a counter-terrorism ally
The State Department said in a statement to the US Congress that it has decided to sanction a prospective Foreign Military Sale (FMS) to Pakistan for the maintenance of F-16 fighter jets. “The US government has notified Congress of a potential foreign military sale to preserve the Pakistan Air Force’s F-16 program,” a State Department spokesperson said. He further added that Pakistan is an essential counter-terrorism ally.
In an answer to a question, the official added, “Pakistan’s F-16 program is a key component of the larger US-Pakistan bilateral partnership. The F-16 fleet lets Pakistan support counterterrorism operations, and we expect Pakistan to take continuous action against all terrorist organisations.”
It is considered that the recent help given by Pakistan is a significant cause behind this softness of America. The US drone used to kill al-Qaeda chief Ayman al-Zawahiri in Afghanistan flew from a Gulf country to Kabul via Pakistan. According to experts, this drone aircraft could not fly over Pakistani airspace without the permission of General Bajwa. Imran Khan had earlier opposed the operation of US drones in Pakistan, but this approval was granted to the US during Shahbaz Sharif’s reign.
The Curlies Beach Shack restaurant in Goa, where BJP leader Sonali Phogat was found dead, will be demolished for violation of environmental norms. The Goa Coastal Zone Management Authority has ordered the demolition of the restaurant saying that it violates several norms including coastal regulatory zone norms, and therefore it needs to be demolished.
The restaurant had appealed against the Authority’s order at the National Green Tribunal, but the Tribunal rejected the appeal. NGT said that they “do not find any merit in the appeal and there is no ground to interfere with the impugned order” and upheld the Goa Coastal Zone Management Authority’s order.

According to reports, when Goa Police visited the restaurant for the probe of the Sonali Phogat death which later was found to be a case of murder, several irregularities were found. The cops had also said that drugs were being sold at the restaurant.
Ahead of the demolition, the Goa Coastal Zone Management Authority has ordered the closure of all commercial activities in the establishment like night club, bar and restaurant. The establishment includes the Curlies Restaurant and Night Club, and the Guest House, located at Michael Wado, Dando, Anjuna Beach, in Bardez in Goa. The restaurant is run by Edwin Nunes and Linet Nunes.
Sonali Phogat had died on August 23 after she was allegedly drugged and murdered by two of her associates at the Curlies. While police earlier had claimed it to be a case of heart attack, they later admitted she was admitted after her autopsy was done and her family members had claimed that it was a murder case. Police had said that they had mixed some obnoxious substance in drinking water and forced her to consume it. This was also captured in CCTV cameras.
On August 25, the police had arrested Sudhir Sangwan and Sukhwinder Vasi, who had accompanied Sonali Phogat to Goa on August 22. Now it has emerged that these two had killed Phogat. Later the police also arrested Edwin Nunes, owner of the restaurant, after drugs were found in the restaurant. In addition, police had also arrested two drug peddlers who are suspected of supplying drugs to Sonali Phogat’s killers.
Nunes was granted conditional bail yesterday by a Goa court. The two drug peddlers who have been arrested are Dattaprasad Gaonkar and Rama Mandrekar. Gaonkar was working as a room boy in Hotel Grand Leoney Resort in Anjuna where Phogat and her associates were staying.
Many incidents of people having heart attacks while dancing, exercising etc are coming to light these days. In such a shocking case from Bishnah, Jammu and Kashmir, a 20-year-old artist named Yogesh Gupta died while he was dancing in a Ganesh Puja event. During the performance, he suffered a heart attack, fainted, and fell to the stage. However, people in the audience thought it was part of the act and they kept clapping throughout. His crew members then approached the stage and attempted to lift the artist. But he had died by then.
According to the report, this instance is from the village of Kothe Sainiya in the Bishnah area. A Jagran was going on in the village during Ganesh Puja. The artists that came to Jagran presented various deities to make it more devotional. During this, a Shiv Parvati dance sequence was to be performed on stage, in which Mother Parvati first seeks to please Lord Shiva with her dance, and in this, 20-year-old Yogesh Gupta, resident of Por Satwari, was performing the character of Ma Parvati.

Yogesh was dancing on the Shiva Stuti stage to honour Lord Shiva. During this, he suffered a heart attack, fainted, and fell to the stage. All this happened so fast that the crowd present there was clapping the whole time thinking that it was part of the play. However, when the guy portraying Shiva noticed that Parvati’s fainting moment was nowhere in the script, he attempted to lift Yogesh Gupta.
Senior journalist and anchor, Sudhir Chaudhary shared the video on Twitter and wrote, “20-year-old Jammu girl dies of a heart attack while performing on stage. Could CPR have saved her? Did lack of public awareness lead to her death?”. Journalist Sudhir Chaudhary later wrote a quoted tweet to make corrections about the dead’s name and gender.

Cases of death by heart attack and cardiac arrest have increased in the past few years
On May 31, 2022, renowned playback singer Krishnakumar Kunnath, popularly known as KK felt uneasy while performing on stage in Kolkata. In the hotel, he suffered cardiac arrest. The singer was rushed to CMRI hospital and was declared dead. Last year, popular TV actor Sidharth Shukla died of a heart attack. Recently, comedian Raju Srivastava also suffered a heart attack while working out in the gym. He is undergoing treatment at AIIMS Delhi. The number of such occurrences where persons who are otherwise healthy die suddenly is increasing.
Perfume trader Piyush Jain, who was jailed after a raid at his premises unearthed over Rs 196 crore and 23 kg of foreign gold in Kannauj and Kanpur, was finally released on bail after 254 days. Though his release was to take place two days ago, he could come out of jail on Thursday, September 8, 2022, due to a delay in the verification of documents.
After the court’s order, his wife and son submitted bonds of ten lakh each. The verification of the same was expected to complete on Tuesday.
On December 23, 2021, a team of Directorate General GST Intelligence (DGGI) and the Income Tax Department raided perfume trader Piyush Jain’s Kanpur residence in Anandpuri and a firm in Kannauj. Over Rs 196 crore was recovered from the two places in the four-day raid. Also, 23 kg of foreign stamped gold and 600 liters of sandalwood oil were recovered. Piyush Jain was booked in two cases and sent to jail on December 27. In one case, bail was granted by the lower court earlier. Piyush Jain got bail in the second case a few days ago.
The trial court had ordered the release of perfume businessman Piyush Jain in exchange for two bonds of Rs 10 lakh each. After this Piyush’s wife Kanta Jain and son Priyansh Jain had filed an FD (Fixed Deposit) of Ten lakh rupees each. The court had ordered the verification of the FD on Friday. Former district government advocate Piyush Shukla said that the report was sent to the court after verification on behalf of the bank on Tuesday, after which Piyush Jain’s release was expected on Wednesday.
The Directorate General of GST Intelligence (DGGI), and the Income Tax department conducted raids on the premises of a Pan Masala manufacturer, perfume empire owner, and a transporter on 23rd December 2022. ₹19 crores in cash and 23kg of gold were found in the modest-looking home in Kannauj, while ₹177.45 crores were found hidden in his grand house in Kanpur. The authorities had to take the help of SBI for machines and manpower to count all those ₹500 and ₹200 notes.
A man named Taufeeq Ahmed has been arrested for reportedly vandalising a deity’s idol at a Hindu temple in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh. Ahmed allegedly entered the temple premises wearing a ’tilak’ on his forehead and began vandalising the deity’s idol while screaming ‘Jai Shri Ram.’
The incident occurred at Lete Hanuman Mandir on Lucknow’s Gomti bank on Wednesday. Taufeeq Ahmed entered the temple and began shouting Jai Shri Ram before throwing stones at the idols. According to accounts, Taufeeq also tore the temple’s flag, prompting the priests to notify authorities. Two idols at the temple reportedly suffered damage.

The temple priest maintains that two idols, one of Shani Dev and the other of Lord Hanuman, have been broken into pieces. Hindu groups have been closely monitoring the temple ever since this information became public. Police have been deployed at the spot to maintain normalcy in the area.
Taufeeq was so drunk, according to ADCP Chiranjeev Nath Sinha, that he couldn’t even speak properly. “Taufeeq Ahmed is accused of destroying the Shani Dev idol and the temple flag. He was arrested on the scene by police. When things returned to normal in the morning, he revealed his identity during interrogation” he stated.
The man was apprehended by locals, who began beating him after the incident. Meanwhile, the temple’s president, Dr Vivek Tangri, arrived. He notified the police, who arrived on the scene and escorted the man to the police station. The ADCP said that all aspects are being investigated.
