RTI response confirms OpIndia report: ‘Rs 35 lakh spent on Modi’s yoga video’ was fake news

0

In July 2018, Sports Minister Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore had started the #HumFitTohIndiaFit campaign. Many celebrities had uploaded their work out videos and challenged others to do the same. Similarly, India’s cricket team captain, Virat Kohli had uploaded his work out video and one of the people he had challenged was Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

The Prime Minister in response uploaded a short video of him doing yoga in his garden, emphasising the importance of including Yoga in daily life. Following this, a dubious website called IndiaScoops, which had recently surfaced, published an article that Prime Minister Narendra Modi spent Rs. 35 lakh on his #HumFitToIndiaFit challenge.

The unverified article from the dubious source was widely shared among by the opponents of the Prime Minister. Many journalists including Nikhil Waghle and politicians both from the Congress and Aam Aadmi Party also furthered the article.

We had reported how no credibility can be attached to the page IndiaScoops itself. The page was registered a mere 66 days prior to this “scoop” which they attributed to “sources” within the Prime Minister’s Office. The page also used to be an Arshi Khan (BiggBoss contestant) fan page before it morphed into a page that claims to have highly placed sources in the PMO.

We then found the earliest mention of the website was by a Twitter handle called IndiaScribes.com. We found that the IndiaScribes.com was owned by one Flynn Remedios who has been earlier accused of molestation, cheating and sending outrageous messages to an actress. He was also reported to be Arshi Khan’s publicist, the same Arshi Khan whose fan page was turned into IndiaScoops, the webpage with sources in the PMO and who published the 35 lakh story.

After digging into the highly dubious antecedents of the website that got this “scoop” which was plugged by many journalists and politicians, the news of Prime Minister Modi spending 35 lakhs on the video itself became questionable since apart from the dubious roots of the website itself, the article provided no evidence to back their claims up.

Soon, Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore too confirmed that zero expenditure was incurred on the making of the short yoga video that was shared by the Prime Minister.

Now, as reported by MyNation.com, in response to an RTI, the PMO has clarified that no expenditure was incurred on the filming of the video posted by PM Modi.

RTI response accessed by MyNation.com

“No expenditure has been incurred on (the) filming of the video posted by Shri Narendra Modi. The video was filmed at the Prime Minister’s Residence. The videography was done by the PMO cameraman. Nothing has been procured for the video,” the PMO said in reply to an RTI application. The RTI had sought to know the cost of making the video and of giving the contract.

With the official response out, one wonders if the people who furthered an unverified source-based “news” from dubious sources would retract their assertions.

Communal tension in Fatehpur, Rajasthan after attack on Kanwar Yatris, 3 Muslim youth reportedly arrested

0

According to reports, communal tensions flared up in Fatehpur town in Sikar district, Rajasthan on Monday after a group of people alleged that some Kanwariyas taking out a procession through Luharon Ka Mohalla on Churu Road in Fatehpur were attacked by members of the Muslim community. Currently, section 144 of CrPC has been imposed in the town.

The conflict began when the procession was passing by a mosque and a group of Muslim youths demanded that the music, which the Kanwariya’s were playing along, is minimized, an official reportedly said. Soon after a heated argument broke out between the two group which turned into an altercation, leading to eight Kanwariya’s being injured. The police have arrested three Muslim youths.

Demanding further arrests of the other assaulters, Hindu organization called for a bandh in Fatehpur town following which the markets remained closed on Monday. Several people are reported to have been injured in the incident.

In a similar incident of religious intolerance, clashes had broken out in the Nawada district of Bihar in March 2018, following the desecration of Lord Hanuman’s idol in the district’s Gondapur village. As per local reports, the discovery of this desecration had resulted in irate locals blocking the Patna-Ranchi highway, which had later escalated into a clash between two communities.

This news of communal violence in Bihar came days after parts of the state was engulfed in communal strife following attacks on Ram Navami processions.

We had reported that the state’s Aurangabad and Kaimur districts had seen intense violence. In Aurangabad, stones were pelted on a bike rally at Nawadih area, which caused tensions in the area.

In Kaimur district’s Malikasray village, a bike rally was taken out, during which property belonging to “another group” was accidentally damaged. Hence when Ram Navami’s Shoba yatra started in the village, the “other group” stopped it by alleging that they had taken a wrong route. This resulted in the clashes.

Almost at the same time, similar incidents of communal violence were also witnessed in Samastipur, Nalanda, and Munger regions of the state.

Allahabad HC stays construction in VVIP area where Akhilesh Yadav was planning to build heritage hotel

0

The Lucknow bench of the Allahabad High Court has stayed the proposal of former chief minister Akhilesh Yadav to construct a heritage hotel at Vikramaditya Marg, a high-security zone, as reported by LiveLaw.in.

After trashing his government accommodation and stripping it off fixtures and moving into a villa of his own, Samajwadi Party chief and former UP chief minister Akhilesh Yadav had planned to build a heritage hotel in the heart of Lucknow. According to reports published in July this year, the former UP CM, along with his wife MP Dimple Yadav, has submitted an application to the Lucknow Development Authority (LDA) to build a heritage hotel on a prime piece of land in Vikramaditya Marg.

A Bench comprising of Justice Vikram Nath and Justice Abdul Moin passed the order while hearing a PIL filed by local lawyer Shishir Chaturvedi. The Court went on further to take note of newspaper reports claiming that “illegal construction activities” are being carried out in the VVIP areas. It noted that such activities were being undertaken without appropriate sanctions from the State and the Lucknow Development Authority, to set up party offices.

The Court has observed that allowing such construction will compromise the region’s security. The order further read, “This V.I.P. Zone caters to the residences of Chief Minister, the Chief Secretary, the Chairman, Board of Revenue, Judges of the High Court, Cabinet Ministers, Ministers and very Senior I.A.S. Officers. If such activities are permitted in this V.I.P Zone apparently it cannot be said that it would be safe and secure nor would the life of the residents of the area be peaceful.”

The Court has asked the state and civic bodies to provide evidence for the alleged construction and has stayed the same till next hearing takes place on 5th September.

No animal slaughter in public during Bakr-Eid, Yogi Adityanath instructs Police

0

In a high-level meet of ministers just a few days before Bakr-Eid, Uttar Pradesh Chief has instructed the Police and administration to ensure that no animals are sacrificed in the open. Furthermore, authorities have been directed to ensure that blood and offal of slaughtered animals are not dumped in open drains. The measures are being taken to ensure that the religious sentiments of other communities are not offended.

With a focus on law and order, Yogi Adityanath asked the administration to ensure that no cow is slaughtered during the festival. He has also asked the Police to ensure the safety of both people and cattle and to be constantly vigilant as Kanwar Yatra is also being celebrated by the Hindus during the holy month of Shravan.

Darul Uloom, Deoband, has also urged Muslims to not slaughter any prohibited animal during Bakrid. ”The Muslims, while celebrating Eid-ul-Azha, must take into consideration the feelings of their fellow countrymen… They must not do anything that in any way hurts sentiments,” the Islamic seminary stated in a recently issued booklet.

Muzaffarnagar district magistrate Rajeev Sharma said, “We will make sure the CM’s instructions are complied with. We have held a meeting with district officials. On Monday, there will be another meeting between officials and prominent members of both communities about the festival.”

Superintendent of Police Omveer Singh told TOI, “The CM focused on law and order and gave instructions that Bakr-Eid was to be celebrated in the traditional way but that sacrifice of animals should not be done either in public or in areas which have mixed populations.”

In a blatant show of insensitivity, Karnataka CM’s brother caught on camera ‘throwing’ relief packages to flood victims

0

In a shocking incident, Karnataka chief minister H D Kumaraswamy’s brother H D Revanna, who is also Public Works Minister in Karnataka government, was caught throwing food packets at flood victims on camera.

In this minute long video, Revanna is seen throwing biscuit packets at the flood victims who are catching them hungrily. H D Revanna is son of former Prime Minister H D Devegowda and the brother of Karnataka Chief Minister H D Kaumaraswamy.

It is reported that some of the people declined to eat the biscuits which were thrown at them, while some others ate the biscuit packets as they were hungry and desperate. The victims who have lost their houses and belongings were expecting massive help from the state machinery and the elected representatives. But, this arrogant behaviour from the Minister has disappointed the flood victims.

The Minister was accompanied by the Arakalgud MLA A T Ramaswami and other district officials. H D Revanna, who is also the head of the Hassan Milk Union, had earlier announced that he would distribute free biscuits and milk to the victims of Coorg and other surrounding areas.

Kodagu or Coorg district has been ravaged due to severe rainfall and has brought the lives of the people into a standstill. The Chief Minister of the state has announced Rs 200-crore fund for the purpose of relief measures in the districts hit by rains. The Prime Minister has also assured all the assistance for the rescue and relief operation conducted in the state.

Don’t teach Narendra Modi about Atal Bihari Vajpayee’s legacy because he IS that legacy

0

Our beloved leader and Bharat Ratna Atal Bihari Vajpayee is no more. Tributes have poured in from all kinds of people, some sincere and some insincere. One thing that must be noticed is that some of these alleged tributes from liberal journalists, academics and thinkers have actually come in the form of putdowns, some subtle and some not so subtle, towards his party (BJP), his parivar (RSS) and Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

It’s clear that these intellectuals seek to appropriate some part of Atalji’s legacy, as a way of snubbing the ruling BJP of today under Narendra Modi.

The reason I am writing this is to urge the Hindu right to be fiercely territorial about our beloved Atal Bihari Vajpayee. What does this mean? It means that those who treated him as an untouchable should not be allowed to claim even a needlepoint of his legacy.

Atalji’s legacy belongs to us on the Hindu right, all of it. Perhaps I will be called narrow-minded for saying this, but I am fine with that.

Forgive me, but I don’t want to hear the contempt-filled ‘praise’ that reminds us of how he was the ‘right man in the wrong party,’ or how he was broad-minded ‘despite being from the Sangh’. And if I hear one more liberal talk about the ‘soft’ Vajpayee versus the ‘hard’ Modi, I am going to scream.

They think Vajpayee was soft? Ha! He was a fierce man who struck at the root of the Dynasty’s rule in India. Together with Advani, he built the only national alternative to Congress, carrying the party from 2 seats to 182 seats. He became the first Prime Minister of India from a “non-Congress gotra” and kept his position for six whole years. The only reason the “liberals” suddenly love him today is because he has passed away and is no longer a threat to the power ambitions of the Nehru-Gandhi family.

Liberals only love you when you are no longer in a position to challenge their privileges. They are not fooling anybody here.

Atalji was what he was, a lifelong Swayamsevak. The organization moulded him and he moulded the organization. This is our Atalji:

[youtube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5cVhGcvBj3Q?version=3&rel=1&fs=1&autohide=2&showsearch=0&showinfo=1&iv_load_policy=1&wmode=transparent]

In his poem, “Hindu tan man, Hindu jivan, rag rag Hindu mera parichay,”Atalji challenges the “sons of Akbar” to tell us how many mosques we Hindus have broken in Kabul.

So, those who are allergic to the word Hindu, those who can associate the word Hindu only with Taliban and Pakistan and terrorism, may please excuse.

So, when a liberal pays a faux tribute to Atalji they must be mocked for their pathetic state. The credibility of liberal elites and the credibility of their Dynasty is so low today that heaping praise on Vajpayee is their only hope of being seen favourably by the people. Second, they must be reminded of the times Vajpayee and his party were treated as untouchables by the secular establishment.

What do I mean by treating him as an untouchable? We can start with the Gandhi Dynasty that threw him in jail during the Emergency.

But that is hardly where it ends because the ‘other side’ treated him no better. The Janata Party conglomerate won 298 seats in the General Elections of 1977, out of which the Jan Sangh had the largest contingent of 93 MPs. As a matter of natural justice, most of the key positions in the Janata government, including the post of Prime Minister should have gone to the Jan Sangh. Possibly, Atalji should have become Prime Minister in 1977 itself.

But that did not happen. Far from it. Even for the Janata Party constituents, Atalji and his party were untouchables. Despite the fact that the Janata Party had come to power riding on the back of the anti-Emergency struggle led by the Jan Sangh. Despite having 93 out of the Janata Party’s 298 seats, the Jan Sangh was offered just 3 ministerial positions, one each for Vajpayee, Advani and Brij Lal Verma.

The punishment for untouchability did not end there. The other constituents of the Janata Party committed themselves to bullying, harassing and kicking out the Jan Sangh members. A policy against ‘dual membership’ was introduced, which was essentially a way to target Jan Sangh members who were almost all members of the RSS as well. Ultimately, the Jan Sangh members were formally expelled after the 1980 election. The Janata Party chose to hand the country back to the Gandhis rather than give the ‘untouchables’ from the Jan Sangh a fair share of power.

Even after the 1996 results, when the BJP emerged as the single largest party in the Parliament, Atalji and his party were isolated and consigned to the opposition benches. Unfortunately for the secular establishment, what made history in the 11th Lok Sabha was not the two forgettable Prime Ministerial puppets put up by Congress. Instead, it is Vajpayee’s speech before quitting his 13-day government that will be remembered by the people.

[youtube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NPuhM_x__Cs?version=3&rel=1&fs=1&autohide=2&showsearch=0&showinfo=1&iv_load_policy=1&wmode=transparent]

People forgot the zamindars of the Lok Sabha but remembered Vajpayee, the one who was treated as the untouchable.

He is not here today or he would have scorched the insincere and fake tributes with his fiery oratory.

The Hindu right has now found its way with a new leader and that is Narendra Modi.

The right-wing or Narendra Modi don’t have to be taught Atalji’s legacy because Narendra Modi is that legacy. A robust Prime Minister from the BJP who has his own majority in the Lok Sabha. The foundations were laid by Vajpayee and Advani.

Don’t believe me? Here is Atalji mocking all these so-called “liberals” when the BJP stunned the liberal establishment by emerging as single largest in 1996:

“ये कोई आकस्मिक जनादेश नहीं है ये कोई चमत्कार नहीं हुआ है। हमने मेहनत की है, हम लोगों के बीच में गए हैं, हमने संघर्ष किया है। ये साल की 365 दिन चलने वाली पार्टी है।”

(This verdict of the people is neither unexpected not a miracle. We have worked hard, we went to the people, we struggled. This is a party that runs 365 days of the year.)

Hear that? A party that runs 365 days! Can we hear the echoes of Narendra Modi and Amit Shah in those words? In Vajpayee’s words, can we hear Amit Shah mocking the lazy naamdar who needs to party for at least 250 days a year?

They shouldn’t dare teach Modi about the legacy of Vajpayee because Modi himself is that legacy. It is true that Atalji had a very big heart and was often more generous to his enemies. And it is true that Modi has taken some lessons from Vajpayee’s term in office. The “liberals” shouldn’t worry about driving a wedge there because they won’t find any.

Rather, the liberals should worry about the day when they have to line up and express admiration for Narendra Modi because the next PM from the BJP would probably treat them worse.

‘Hindutva is here to stay’, say the creators of ‘Dharmic Memes for Hindu Teens’

0

In the past couple of years, there has been an explosion of Hindu-centric meme pages on social media with a significant number of followers. The meme pages are pretty diverse in their content and bursting with creativity. For instance, the Twitter handle @OGSaffron tweets aesthetic photographs with captions to motivate Hindus to invest their time in meaningful activities and spur them into action so that Dharma can be restored in India again. Then there’s the Facebook page ‘Hindu Nationalist Anime Girls‘ which does crossovers between anime and Hindu concepts.

One such handle is ‘Dharmic Memes for Hindu Teens‘ which came up relatively recently on Twitter. Talking to OpIndia.com, the admins told us that the persons behind the account are a pair of brothers in their early 30s, who are regular office-goers. Their hometown is in Madhya Pradesh and they are currently residing in Haryana.

Talking about their inspiration to create the unique meme page, they said that their previous attempt at the dissemination of ideas wasn’t too successful. “We tried e-books, we failed. We tried podcasts, we failed. We created a super intellectual discussion forum and we failed. The attention span of a modern internet user is very less, they need quick engaging content and hence we decided on making memes”, said the founders.

The purpose of the memes according to the creators of the account is to motivate individuals just enough to dig deeper into the scriptures, “The objective of Dharmic memes is to lure people into reading about our Dharm, our epics, our scriptures. It is supposed to serve as a teaser for people so that they get enough motivation to read the entire text, and we see the idea is already working.” The creators also appear to be well acquainted with the power of memes. “You may forget long articles, even the most well-researched ones. But memes, they stay with you.”

The creators agree that social media has contributed greatly towards the rise of Hindutva, “Social Media has helped greatly in bridging the gap between knowledge and the knowledge seeker.” However, they admitted that it didn’t really affect their opinions at all or make them more ‘Dharmic’, it only gave them hope that all might not be lost and there is a ‘great chance of revival’ yet.

The creators made an interesting analogy when they were asked their opinion on the future of Hindutva, “Culture is like a rubber band. You stretch it to an extent and then it has the tendency to go back to the origin point. India has reached the limit of its elasticity and I see a great revival on its way. The coming generations will be more dharmic. Hindutva is here to stay.” They stated that they were not against any other religion, however, they believe a “Sanatan code of conduct will be best for the country.”

The creators of the account said that they haven’t really been inspired by any modern Hindu intellectual to any great degree. Valmiki and Ved Vyas remain their greatest inspirations, they admit. Over the course of the past couple of years, I have witnessed individuals who turned right-wing following specific events after they observed the behaviour and demeanour of the liberals on those occasions.

When asked if they were one of those, the brothers state that it was definitely not the case with them. “Our fascination towards Dharm was not driven by any incident or episode, we have always been like this. We come from the city of Mahakal!”

They also believe that the classification of the Indian political spectrum in terms of right-wing and left-wing is patently absurd as the concept is rooted in a European setting and is not particularly suited to India. They say with pride, “The only wings that we find refuge under is the wings of Vinata Nandan Garud!” The creators also lay great emphasis on Dharma and Karma. “A society without moral standards is destined to implode,” they say before going on to add, “a society in which individuals don’t do their duties becomes a chalet of degenerates.”

Lastly, when asked where they thought the country was headed and their opinions on the current political climate of the country, they used a clever analogy to convey their mind, “It’s a modern Devasur Sangram and thankfully the Devas are in power and I hope it remains the same for a long time.”

Irreconcilable differences: The enduring message that Atal Bihari Vajpayee’s death has left us with

One of the greatest men of independent India breathed his last on the 16th of August, 2018. Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee, a giant among mere mortals, was a politician who led India through one of the most critical times in its history to usher in a new era of prosperity. As politicians across the spectrum gathered to mourn the memory of the Hindutva stalwart, it was inevitable that there would be some elements who would try their best to tarnish the solemn moment with their words worthy of much disgust.

There was a certain section of the media which was under the impression that it was a good idea to use the death of Vajpayee to shower more adulation on the Gandhis, the same Vajpayee whose contribution was enormous towards the undermining of the Nehru-Gandhi dynasty.

Then there were those who were rejoicing at the prospect of Vajpayee’s imminent death and could not hide their hatred for the man even at such an inappropriate moment. Then there were outlets such as The Wire which immediately took it upon itself to pass moral judgments on Vajpayee and brand him a communal bigot.

There were much more repulsive posts on the death of Vajpayee which I chose not to quote here but it’s clear that the visceral hatred that those on the Left bear for him is quite out of order. Vajpayee is hated because he is one of the great success stories of Hindutva and is evidence of the fact that a Hindutva Sarkar could provide better governance and lead the country to greater heights than corrupt ‘secular’ parties which indulged in blatant minority appeasement.

Vajpayee was the great Hindutvawadi under whose leadership India became a nuclear power and sailed through a period of sanctions without suffering any misery as such. And more importantly, he was a visionary who added new chapters to the Indian growth story which began earlier under the leadership of PV Narasimha Rao. And these are hard pills for the Left to swallow who have demonstrated time and again that their only legacy when it comes to governance is running a state to the ground.

The people who are too busy spewing hate against Vajpayee are unsurprisingly the same who believe Aurangzeb was a benevolent ruler and that his persecution of Hindus must be seen from a certain context. The “Liberal” Left hates him for his involvement in the Ram Janambhoomi movement but conveniently chooses to ignore the context under which the vents that transpired developed. A thing that becomes clear after a while is that the Left hates Vajpayee for pretty much the same reasons for which the Right respects and adores him. The Ram Janambhoomi movement, Pokhran, his economic policies and his avowed commitment to Hindutva are what makes Vajpayee so loved among the Right and hated among the Left. And the death of Vajpayee is illuminating once again these irreconcilable differences that have come to the forefront of Indian politics in 2018.

The Left betrays its own words with its actions. They preach tolerance and coexistence and rational discussion and yet they do not hesitate to spit on the memory of a former Prime Minister who improved India’s fortunes greatly for the better. They accuse the Right of being filled with hatred and yet, it is they whose minds have been so corrupted with rage that they have forsaken all decency and chosen to spew hatred against a man who hadn’t even been cremated yet. If democratic politics is to succeed, it is essential that certain courtesies are observed by all sides on certain occasions. However, it has become clear that the Left is incapable of observing such common decencies and offer the most minimum of courtesies to a Hindu because they have been consumed by hatred.

Atal Bihari Vajpayee was a true son of the soil. His speech on Savarkar is still relevant to this day. We have to remember that Vajpayee isn’t hated for things he did or things he chose not to do. He is hated because of his identity and because he is a Hindutvawadi. The Left has made it abundantly clear that they will reserve nothing but only hatred and scorn for a Hindutvawadi, even in death, ignoring all the greatness that the Hindutvawadi was endowed with.

The legacy of Vajpayee is a refutation of the narrative that the Left had carefully crafted over the years that a Sanghi cannot provide effective governance to a 21st century India. The Left describes Hindus as being stuck up over past glories and incapable of charting a bright future ahead and yet it was Vajpayee, the Hindutvawadi, who established India as a nuclear power. The Left would have us believe that Hindu thought is incapable of producing visionary leaders and yet it was Vajpayee, the Hindutvawadi, who envisioned the Golden Quadrilateral and heralded an era of economic prosperity. The Hindutva of Vajpayee was a slap on the face of Nehruvian Socialism and its glories that the Left had come to glorify and that is why he is so reviled even in death.

Narendra Modi is only carrying forward the legacy of Atal Bihari Vajpayee. He appears to have learnt from the mistakes the late stalwart of Hindutva committed and is working towards fulfilling the dreams and ambition of the now deceased former Prime Minister. Certain sections of the media may now be showering praise on him to further their own political objective of criticizing Narendra Modi but Atal Bihari Vajpayee was hated just as much during his Prime Ministerial tenure as Modi is hated now. At least the section of the political spectrum still showering hate on Vajpayee are consistent with their approach towards the man but worse are the hypocrites who are using his death to attack Narendra Modi, a man after Vajpayee’s own heart.

It should be clear to Hindus now that it hardly matters how they conduct themselves in public life. If they believe that the Mughals were tyrants whose symbols of oppression should eradicated from the face of Bharata, if they believe that Babri was a symbol of tyranny and a testament to Islamic intolerance, if they believe that a bhavya Ram Mandir is of utmost import to initiate the spiritual awakening of Bharata and most importantly, if they believe that they have the right to defend themselves from Islamic aggression should the state fail to do so, then they will be hated and reviled by the Left because there’s nothing on the face of the Earth the Left hates more than the unending resilience of the great Hindu Civilization.

Former PM Atal Bihari Vajpayee’s ashes to be immersed in 100 rivers across the country

0

The Bharatiya Janata Party has decided to immerse the ashes of the former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee, who passed away on 16th August, in 100 rivers across the country along with several prayer meetings organized in the Delhi, state capitals, district headquarters and panchayats.

The programme started on Sunday, when the ashes of Atal Bihari Vajpayee were immersed in the river Ganga at Haridwar in the presence of the BJP president Amit Shah, Union home minister Rajnath Singh, Vajpayee’s foster daughter Namita Kaul Bhattacharya, Uttar Pradesh chief minister Yogi Adityanath, Uttarakhand chief minister Trivendra Singh Rawat and other family members.

The BJP had earlier planned to immerse Vajpayee’s ashes in 18 urns across various rivers of Uttar Pradesh, which has now been re-scheduled to include more than 100 rivers across 29 states and seven union territories in India.

The BJP has also planned to organize an all party prayer meeting at the Indira Gandhi Indoor Stadium in Delhi on 20th August. The prayer meeting will also be open to the public to offer their respect to the Bharat Ratna Atal Bihari Vajpayee.

The all party prayer meet will be followed by a similar event on 23rd August in Lucknow, which Vajpayee represented in the Lok Sabha, before the ashes are immersed in the River Gomti. The ashes of Vajpayee will be immersed in most of the holy rivers of the country including Sabarmati, Narmada, Tapti, Mahanadi, Brahmaputra, Godavari, Meenachil and Jhelum.

Atal Bihar Vajpayee, one of the most loved Prime Minister of India passed away on the 16th August due to prolonged illness. He was cremated with full state honours at the Rashtriya Smriti Sthal near the Yamuna’s banks on Friday.

As Congress revoked Mani Shankar Aiyar’s suspension, here is a look back at controversial remarks by Congress leaders

0

Nine months after suspending controversial Congress leader Mani Shankar Aiyar for referring to Prime Minister Narendra Modi as ‘neech insan‘, the party has now revoked his suspension. This was not the first time Aiyar had made such casteist and elitist remarks. Mani Shankar Aiyar is widely believed to have helped Modi in his 2014 campaign when he used the term “chaiwala” (tea seller) as an insult for the then BJP Prime Ministerial candidate.

In many such previous instances, Congress functionaries have been seen grabbing on to such photo opportunities by making controversial statements. Aiyar himself was found shaming India in Pakistan when he hailed Mohammad Ali Jinnah for his role in freedom movement and even referred to him as Quaid-e-Azam while defending him for his role in the partition. Earlier he had called for the support of Pakistan to not only remove the current government led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi but also to help Congress come to power.

Aiyar is not the only one who has been caught on the wrong foot making embarrassing comments. Senior Congress leader Ghulam Nabi Azad too has made a casteist statement on PM Modi by referring to him as ‘Gangu Teli’ (Modi belongs to the Teli caste). Congress leader Jairam Ramesh referred to PM Modi as ‘Bhasmasur’ during the run up to 2014 elections, a mythological demon.

Congress General Secretary, Digvijay Singh had caught the spotlight a few years back when while praising a fellow party secretary, Meenakshi Natrajan at a rally in Madhya Pradesh he referred to her as ‘a 100 percent tunch maal’. (Translated from Bhojpuri, the remark roughly means ‘100 percent sexy woman’.) Digvijay Singh, had earlier too, hogged on all the limelight when in 2010, he released the book 26/11 RSS Ki Saazish? (26/11, An RSS Conspiracy?) in Mumbai. Prior to this, he had also stirred a strong storm of criticism triggered by his comments linking the killing of Maharashtra ATS chief Hemant Karkare during the 26/11 terror attacks to the alleged threats Karkare had received from Hindu extremists.

Congress MP Sanjay Nirupam had also raised a strife by bad-mouthing BJP MP Smriti Irani in December 2012, when assembly election results of Gujarat was announced saying, “It’s only four days of your entry into politics and you have become a political analyst. Aap toh TV pe thumke lagati thi, Aaj chunavi vishleshak ban gayi.” (You used to dance on TV screen, now you are a political analyst?)

Not to be left too behind, Congress President Rahul Gandhi himself had once referred to PM Modi as ‘khoon ka dalal‘ after the surgical strikes.

With politicians, who are the so-called guardians of our country, stooping to such low levels, one is left to wonder what are we offering to our future generations!
