After talaq, Muslim woman forced to have halala with father in law, demand law banning nikah-halala

In a shocking incident in Bareilly, few years after a man allegedly forced his wife to go through halala with his father after the talaq, he again forced her to go through halala with his younger brother. Nikah-halala is a practice of a divorced woman having to consummate the marriage with another man and then getting a divorce from him before remarrying her previous husband.

As per reports, in 2011, two years after getting married in 2009, Wasim Hussain gave talaq to his wife, Shabina for the first time. After begging him to take her back, he relented on condition that she undergoes halala with his father (get married to his father, consummate the marriage and then divorce him). But things didn’t end there. Last year, Hussain again gave talaq to Shabina. This time, after talaq, he asked Nida to have halala with his younger brother, but Shabina decided to take a stand and not be a part of the humiliation.

Aala Hazarat Helping Society head Nida, along with three dozen other Muslim women, held a press conference yesterday where they talked about the ordeals and atrocities carried out by their husbands under the guise of triple talaq. The women have also demanded a female Kaazi (a judge or magistrate of a Sharia court). Another victim, Nisha, said she got married to Anwar in 1999, but was given talaq in 2009 and forced her to go through nikah-halala with his friend, following which he abandoned her.

The women now seek legal course for justice. The women seek law banning the triple talaq, halala and polygamy. According to Nida, Muslim women could get justice only with strict laws. She raised questions against the fatwas issued by maulvis and said how they are usually misogynist and anti-women. Only with a stricter implementation of laws can the atrocities against women under the guise of shariat could stop, said Nida.

Supreme Court of India refuses to allow offering of Namaz by outsiders at the Taj Mahal : Reports

The Supreme Court (SC) on Monday in its judgment, refused to allow prayers by outsiders at the mosque on the premises of Taj Mahal, maintaining that the monument’s preservation is paramount.

The three-judge bench of the apex court headed by the Chief Justice of India Dipak Misra, in its judgment stressed that the Taj Mahal must be preserved as it is one of the seven wonders of the world. It further added that there was no need to conduct prayers within the complex of the Taj Mahal.

The decision comes after a petitioner moved the Supreme court, against a district magistrate order which came on 24th January this year, ordering locals with valid identity proof to be allowed entry to the monument complex to offer ‘Namaz’ every Friday.

In January, the district administration had ordered that people should produce valid Id proof showing that they were residents of Agra, before entering the complex to offer Namaz, barring outsiders to enter the complex, which remains closed for tourists every Friday.

It is being reported that the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) maintained that in the past the government had allowed the religious practices inside the Taj Mahal on a limited scale to demonstrate its concern for religious tolerance, as there has been a persistent demand from Muslims of the surrounding areas for such concession. Interestingly, the decision to open the mosque inside the Taj complex for Friday prayers between noon and 2 PM was taken by the ASI and it was further decided that during this time, tourists will not be allowed inside the monument.

Last year, however, a Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS)-linked organization had demanded that Friday prayers at the historic monument located in Agra should be banned. The demands to ban Friday prayers had come from Akhil Bhartiya Itihaas Sankalan Samiti – the history wing of the RSS. Dr Balmukund Pandey, one of the members of the organization said that the Taj Mahal is a national heritage so Muslims should not be allowed to use it as a religious site. Permission to perform ‘namaz’ at the Taj Mahal should be withdrawn.

He went on to say that if ‘namaz’ is allowed then Hindus should also be granted permission to perform Shiva prayers at the Taj Mahal.

The Taj Mahal, with all its beauty, grandeur, historical significance and cultural importance has been encompassed by a lot of controversies. Not long back, The Supreme Court had asked the Uttar Pradesh Sunni Waqf Board to show documents signed by Mughal emperor Shah Jahan to prove its claim that it owns the iconic Taj Mahal.

A Bench headed by Chief Justice Dipak Misra had then asked the board counsel to show it documents to substantiate that Shah Jahan, who had built the Taj Mahal in memory of his wife Mumtaz Mahal in 1631, had executed a ‘waqfnama’ in favour of the board. (Waqfnama is a deed or a document through which a person expresses the intention to donate a property or land for charitable purposes or waqf).

“Who in India will believe that Taj belongs to the waqf board,” asked the bench, comprising Justices A.M. Khanwilkar and D.Y. Chandrachud, and had added that such issues must not waste the time of the apex court.

When the waqf board counsel told the court that Shah Jahan had himself declared it a waqf property, the bench irked by the ridiculous claim, asked the board to show the original deed executed by the Mughal emperor.

Stephen Knapp, in ‘Proof of Vedic Culture’s Global Existence’ also delves into the history and traditional sources of the Vedas and tries to prove the Vedic influence found in such buildings as the Taj Mahal, Red Fort, and other structures in India.

Congress minister supports Muslim Law Board’s plan to open countrywide Sharia Courts : Republic TV

Congress leader and Karnataka’s minority affairs minister – B Z Zameer Ahmed Khan has decided to support All India Muslim Personal’s Law board’s plan to open Sharia courts in all districts of the country, Republic TV has reported.

Just this morning it was reported by us that the Muslim law board had decided to set up the sharia courts (also known as Darul-Qaza). AIMPLB’s Zafaryab Jilani had claimed that under this proposal, the matters would be resolved under Sharia laws.

It has been speculated that there are about 300 Sharia courts running in the country, which might increase to 712 if AIMPLB gets it way. Out of these 300 courts, the Muslim law boards already runs about 50 such courts in the country.

While the BJP has mounted a stiff opposition against this plan, Congress leader Zameer Ahmed has decided to sing a completely different tune.

As reported by Republic TV, the Congress minister has claimed that it is a good step which will help resolve “minor family disputes”. He also claimed that Shariat law is also prevalent in Bangalore and would help spread awareness and unity among Muslims.

Incidentally, the Congress leader was also in the news recently after he threw a fit after he was allotted an Innova as his official car, which he felt was of a “low level” as he had always travelled in “big cars” since childhood. Following this, the Kumaraswamy government decided to indulge him and allotted him a car of his choice.

He had also courted controversy when he demanded that a Haj Bhawan which accommodates Haj pilgrims, be renamed after Tipu Sultan. Following a strong protest by the BJP he the backtracked by claiming that it was merely a request.

Sharia Courts in all districts is recipe for another Pakistan

0

The All-India Muslim Personal Law Board (AIMPLB) has plans to introduce Sharia Courts (Darul-Qaza) in all 640 districts of India.

Even though Sharia Courts have no locus stand in the precincts of India’s courts, and that individuals and not a religious group is an entity in the eyes of a “secular” state, the AIMPLB recommends itself to solve the personal conflicts of Muslims in this country, citing the inordinate time a case takes in legal courts and claiming the guardianship of interpreting “Quran” the holy book for its adherents.

It’s a dangerous, calculated ploy by the AIMPLB to present itself as the upholder of “Quran” and thus obtain a complete subservience from the Muslim population of India, preparing a ground of conflict with India’s legal system which has recently made a move on the “triple talaq” issue and which is at the cusp of making a “Ram Janmabhoomi” verdict.. It’s preparing a ground for “two-nation” theory and has seeds of another Partition, another Pakistan in it.

The threat is real due to the weak nature of Indian judiciary which, in the past, passed a Shah Bano judgement couched as its “interpretation” of Sharia laws. India’s rule of government is no better in cracking a whip on a body about whom 95.5% percent of Muslim women have not even heard of.

Prof. Mohammad Tahir, an international expert on Muslim law, and a former chairman of Minorities Commission has no doubt that the Muslim law board manipulates Quran to perpetuate regressive laws and that it needs to be abolished. A few of the instances he cites are worth quoting: “There are two verses in Quran on talaq. One verse says, `Divorce is only twice.’ The other Quranic verse says a person can’t divorce his wife unless there is an arbitration or reconciliation process from both sides. The Maulvis prefer to choose the first verse as law and the second as a mere morality.

He also says, “similarly there is no Quranic sanction for a Muslim law which treats two female witnesses as equal to one male witness… Every sensible Hadith is declared false, every sensible verse of the Quran has been abrogated,” and “frankly I want (Muslim law) board to be abolished. Its members are paranoid and they speak rubbish. Every time the Supreme Court delivers a judgement, the Board says it is interfering with the Shariat.”

We have the instances of Muslim women denied fair marriage, divorce, adoption and property rights. No women-in -dargahs; polygamy etc is practised. Prohibition on child marriage is opposed by AIMPLB. Free voices, like Salman Rushdie, would continue to be muzzled.

The fall-out and damage to India’s social fabric consequently have been massive. It has led to some Muslims retreating themselves into “ghettos” and “no-go zones.” There is no assimilation and thus regressive mindset kicks in which fuels similar destructive forces of other minorities. In the name of “secularism”, such self-appointed bodies are allowed to hijack and set the agenda for the minorities to the detriment of the nation.

Thus a “nation-within-nation” takes shape. It’s funded by fundamentalist forces that want sovereignty for Muslims across the globe. From the US to the Philippines, every society today is facing this challenge. First, an exclusive area is forged; it then develops into a zone which police has a problem in accessing. Lawlessness emerges. Politicians fish in troubled waters. It’s not long before the government loses control of such areas. Terrorism and drugs thus come to hold sway. Soon there is a call to declare them “Islamic zones.” Several European cities today are victims of such a phenomenon.  For example, a radical group in the UK wants 12 British cities, including London, to turn into independent Islamic states.

Look at Bengal. It has hundreds and thousands of illegal infiltrators from Bangladesh, duly aided by ISI-modules. Consequently, there are many villages in Bengal where police have no say, abetted of course by politicians. When fundamentalists make a call for no-entry to the likes of Taslima Nasreen, neither police nor politicians are of any help.

Initially, the British judges in India were assisted by Muftis and Qazis. The Qazis Act of 1880 deprived the Qazis of their judicial powers. The British courts thereafter made a judgment on Muslim Personal Law. There was a persistent demand in the first quarter of the 20th century to have Sharia Courts. Muslims followed the Hindu Act until 1937 when the Muslim Personal Law Application Act was passed. The All India Muslim Personal Law Board came into being during Indira Gandhi’s rule in 1973.

The life around us could soon descend into chaos and anarchy. That’s what happens in completely communally polarized societies with weak judiciary and appeasement politics. Similar was the situation during the final years of Raj when bigoted forces managed to vivisect India, slicing off its Eastern and Western arms. Appeasement lay at the root of it. History seems set to repeat itself and it would unless it’s dealt with firmly and decisively. As citizens, we would be no less responsible for our indifference.

Yogi govt mulls compulsorily retirement for corrupt and inefficient bureaucrats aged 50 years and above

The Yogi Adityanath led Uttar Pradesh government is considering compulsory retirement for state bureaucrats aged 50 years and above, if they are found inefficient in their duty, PTI has reported.

Such a decision by the Yogi government comes after another tough action of its, where it suspended district magistrates appointed to the districts of Gonda and Fatehpur following allegations of illegal mining and financial irregularities against them.

As per a government order issued by Additional Chief Secretary Mukul Singhal, all the departmental heads are required to screen all the employees who have completed 50 years before 31 March 2018, for compulsory retirement. This screening needs to be completed before 31 July and would include a detailed report about the employees’ performance and work done.

An India Today report has claimed that clear instructions have been given by the Yogi government to not allow non-performing and corrupt employees to continue with their duty.

The media reports claimed that such a tough stance by the Yogi government has not gone down well with the bureaucrats who are calling it an attempt to harass them. As per UP Secretariat Employees’ Association’s President – Yadavendra Mishra, they won’t tolerate this decision and would hold a meeting to discuss their future course of action, which might also include going on strike.

Incidentally, even the Modi government has gone down the compulsory retirement route after it came to power.

As reported by us, the central government had retired two IPS officers from Chhattisgarh cadre for being inefficient. Besides this two other IPS officers were sacked by the government for non-performance. Even MOS in the PMO’s office Jitendra Singh had stated in a press conference that the government had given early retirement to as many as 129 officers over a similar charge.

In total it has been estimated that 176 bureaucrats have been compulsorily retired by the Modi government between 2014 and 2017.

All India Muslim Personal Law Board now wants to set up Sharia courts all over the country

In a series of events, the All India Muslim Personal Law Board has come up with a decision to open Sharia courts also referred to as Darul-Qaza, in all districts of the country. This extremely controversial decision has now met with stiff opposition from the BJP.

The AIMPLB’s decision to set up parallel religious courts, which are extra-constitutional in nature, has not taken well by many sections in the country.

AIMPLB’s Zafaryab Jilani is of the opinion that, the Darul-Qaza is not a parallel court, but a place where Qazis (Islamic scholars) give suggestions to solve disputes. He said that there are around 40 such courts already in the country. The Muslim board is planning to take it to all the parts of the country. “The objective of Darul-Qaza is to resolve matters in light of Shariat laws instead of going to other courts,” he said.

Reacting to this, BJP MP Meenakshi Lekhi said that “You can discuss religious matters but court binds this nation. There is no place for Sharia Court, be it district or village or city. Courts will work in accordance with law. This isn’t the Islamic Republic of India.”

Interestingly, the Supreme Court in a judgement held that the sharia courts have no legal sanctity, and fatwas issued by them are llegal. It seems to be a grave concern as despite ruled illegal by the Supreme Court, the sharia courts still runs a parallel justice system in India.

According to Prof. Anand Ranganathan, there are more than 300 Sharia courts or Darul-Qaza operating in the country. The Islamic organization called Imarat-e-Sharia runs more than 250 Sharia courts alone in states like Bihar, West Bengal, Odisha and Jharkhand. The AIMPLB also runs more than 50 Islamic Parallel courts in the country.

The AIMPLB has also decided to strengthen Tafheem-e-Shariyat (TeS) committees to create awareness programmes about the sharia law, especially making lawyers and judges sensitize about the Islamic law.

“The committee used to organise conferences and workshops all over the country with Islamic experts trying to delve in details into Shariat laws and address queries of participants. It is felt that the committee should be activated and more such programs should be held,” Zafaryab Jilani said.

The AIMPLB is considered to be an extremely controversial religious body. Earlier it had faced huge opposition in the country, as they were against the idea of banning the patriarchal laws like Triple Talaq.

AIMPLB is also a stakeholder in the Babri Masjid demolition case, which is pending in the Supreme Court. Recently Salman Nadwi, a member of the AIMPLB had talks with Sri Sri Ravishankar regarding a peaceful settlement of the Ayodhya dispute. But, AIMPLB sacked him from the membership of the board for speaking about a peaceful resolution of the issue.

Make in India: PM Modi to inaugurate world’s largest mobile phone manufacturing facility in Noida

Prime Minister Narendra Modi and South Korean President Moon Jae-In will today inaugurate Samsung India’s new manufacturing facility at sector 81, Noida. The new facility will reportedly be the world’s largest mobile phone manufacturing facility with the capacity of shelling out 120 million mobile phones a year.

The new Samsung factory is spread across 35 acres adjacent to an already existing Samsung facility in the area. In June last year, Samsung had reportedly announced Rs 4915 crore investment to expand its Noida facility and just after a year it has completed the work. The new factory is expected to catapult Samsung’s annual phone production figures in India from 67 million units annually to 120 million units annually.

Kashmir: IPS officer’s younger brother joins terrorist organization Hizbul Mujahideen

The Hizbul Mujahideen on Sunday released the picture of an IPS officer’s brother shown holding an assault rifle and sporting a holstered pistol who has reportedly joined the terror outfit.

The younger brother of an IPS officer of the Northeast cadre had joined the terrorist outfit Hizbul Mujahideen after disappearing from his Kashmir university campus on 22nd may this year. 25-year-old, Shams-Ul-Haq Mengnoo, originally hailing from Draggud village of South Kashmir Sophian district, was pursuing bachelor’s course in Unani medicine.

Along with the photograph of Mengnoo, the Hizb released pictures of a dozen new recruits on social media to coincide with the death anniversary of their slain commander, Burhan Wani. The pictures released included a dozen names from south Kashmir’s Shopian, Kulgam, Anantnag and Pulwama, four from north Kashmir’s Kupwara, Handwara, and Baramulla, and one from central Kashmir’s Budgam.

Samsul’s elder brother is a 2012 batch, IPS officer, posted in the Northeast.

SP Shailendra Kumar Mishra, since transferred from Shopian, had on 28th June told Hindustan Times about possibilities that Shams-Ul-Haq may have joined the militants.

A senior officer said it was all part of propaganda from the militants’ side. “It is part of their activity to release such pictures particularly when they were not able to make any impact on Wani’s second death anniversary,” the officer said, wishing not to be named.

Not very long back, one such incident of an Indian army man, Mir Idrees Sultan, who was posted in Bihar, joining the Hizbul Mujahideen had surfaced. His picture too, holding an AK47 rifle had gone viral on social media and Shopian SSP Ambarkar Shriram Dinkar had confirmed that he had joined the terrorist organization.

Earlier in July last year, it was reported that Zahoor Ahmad Thokar of 173 Territorial Army had also joined Hizbul Mujahideen. In May last year, a J&K Police member had joined the ranks in Hizbul Mujahideen. J&K Police constable Syed Naveed Mushtaq Shah had decamped with service rifles.

There has been a steady rise in the number of youth joining various terror outfits in the valley since 2014 onwards as compared to 2010-2013 when figures stood at 54, 23, 21 and 6 in the respective years. In 2014, the number shot up to 53 and in 2015, it reached 66 before touching the highest mark of 88 in 2016, the data showed, according to news agency PTI.

In 2017, a total of 126 youths were reported to have taken up arms. The numbers indicated that 81 youths had already joined until May this year.

Mallikarjun Kharge says ‘chaiwala’ could become PM only because Congress ‘preserved democracy’

Senior Congress leader Mallikarjun Kharge has stated in a recent event that a chaiwallah (tea seller) like Modi became the Prime Minister only because the Congress has preserved democracy all these years. According to reports, Maharashtra Congress in-charge Kharge made the crass comment after stating that the PM has been asking in each event about what the Congress has done for the country in the last 70 years.

Kharge reportedly also added, “There have been repeated attacks on the character of India Gandhi, Rajiv and Sonia Gandhi. It is a deliberate attack by the BJP. The Congress is a family and we are all its members.” He reportedly further added that Modi speaks about the emergency that happened 43 years back but what about the emergency in the last 4years, farmers are committing suicide, agricultural schemes are failing, farmers are not getting new loans and trade is on a slow track. Kharge was addressing Congress workers at a party event in Mumbai on Sunday when he made these statements.

Kharge is often seen making controversial and derogatory statements towards PM Modi and Bharatiya Janata Party. He is one of the staunch Gandhi-Nehru family loyalists and he makes his disdain towards BJP and PM Modi evident in the parliament too. PM Modi’s humble early life as a tea seller has been mocked earlier by other Congress leaders too. Senior Congress leader Mani Shankar Aiyar had stated before 2014 election results that a tea seller like Modi can never become the PM, but he can sell tea near the AICC meeting venue. Aiyar has also addressed PM Modi as ‘neech aadmi’ in the past.

Kharge’s statement has drawn several reactions on social media.

Kharge had also stoked controversy earlier when he had stated that there will be ‘rakhtpaat‘ (bloodshed) in the country if the government tries to amend the constitution.

Propaganda Kings : 10 times The Wire indulged in wilful and malicious lies

One has to take a pause and awe at the dichotomy of a situation when one encounters a video produced by the leftist propaganda website ‘The Wire’ where Dua talks about, wait for it, ‘fake news’. ‘The Wire’ itself been caught several times peddling the most outlandish lies with impunity. They have never retracted or apologised when called out. It would be fitting to look back at some of the lies that have been peddled by ‘The Wire’. This list is not comprehensive but only indicative of the editorial standards and ethics that the platform has regularly displayed.

‘The Sunday Guardian’ and ‘The Caravan’ that turned out to be a bullock-cart

The Wire is known for peddling anecdotes, which most of the times spawn from fairy dust and disgruntlement towards a certain group of people, as opinion pieces. They thought they would get away with it when they published an article laced with presumptions. In this particular article, a writer named Atul Dev currently associated with ‘The Caravan’, who previously worked for the English daily Sunday Guardian accused his former employers of ‘killing stories’ which are ‘even slightly critical of the Modi government’.

Atul accused the editor of Sunday Guardian, Joyeeta Basu and M.D.Nalapat of censorship and cosying up to the incumbent government in power. Basu quickly refuted all these claims and explained that she was just doing her job and that article is of mala fide intent in a series of tweets. Basu even threatened the propaganda website with legal consequences if such falsehoods are spread further.

Piramal Group and Piyush Goyal

The Wire is everything but sporadic. They have been consistent in their peddling of propaganda, half-truths, and fake news. Maintaining their track record, this website published a report on alleged financial misconduct on the part Piyush Goyal. The article accused Goyal of selling his investments in a private firm to the Piramal Group. The article also stated that Goyal allegedly kept the PMO in the dark and did not declare this transaction to the PMO.

This was quickly refuted by The Primal group and they called the allegations made, ‘baseless’ and ‘devoid of merit’. They also warned of defamatory action against the website. OpIndia had busted this report earlier and substantiated the different irregularities in the report itself. Even Rahul Gandhi rode The Wire’s fake news clown car all the way to a self-goal.

When it comes to Goyal, they have time and time again attacked him baselessly. In another article penned by one Rohini Singh, she alleges involvement on Goyal’s part in the defaulting of a company named ‘Shridi Industries Limited’. The story had several gaping holes and was soon fact-checked by us. The loans that Singh mentions were taken before Goyal took charge. The entire article reeked of poor research and willingness to omit facts which are inconvenient to the writer’s narrative.

Sherwani and a truckload of false attribution

Arfa Khanum Sherwani is famous for her hitjob on Sri Ravishankar posted a tweet, where she claimed that BJP MP and Minister Babul Supriyo had threatened to ‘Skin Muslims alive’. As usual, she did not feel the need to substantiate such outrageous claims.

The reality, however, was very different. The MP out of anger shouted the same phrase to a large crowd of miscreants, who Babul believes are TMC cadres planted there to create a ruckus. Upon being called out by Twitterati, Sherwani offered a partial retraction.

Zee sends a legal notice to the Wire

Continuing with the lies and propaganda spree of The Wire, one cannot but mention the CobraPost sting fiasco. Named innocuously ‘Operation 136’, the sting claimed that media outlets were willing to promote Pro-Hindutva content in lieu of monetary favours.

Zee Media Corporation Limited later sent legal notices to the CobraPost, The Wire, and The Quint. The notice to the Wire read:

“The deliberate manner in which you the Noticees have carried out the story in question by publishing the impugned articles makes it abundantly clear that you the Noticees have failed to act as per the principles of journalistic ethics and have only exhibited your biased and prejudiced mindset against our client for ulterior motives”.

The Golden Touch of Rohini Singh

Probably the most famous piece of fake news peddled by the leftist propaganda website is the hit piece written by Singh. The article alleged financial irregularities in a company of BJP president Amit Shah’s son, Jay Shah. This obnoxious and shallow attempt at investigative journalism was decimated by OpIndia.

Later on 12th October 2017, Jay Shah slapped The Wire with a defamation case worth 100 crores. Even in the verdict delivered by the Gujrat High Court, the deceit by The Wire has been exposed.

Swati Chaturvedi: The serial offender

Swati Chaturvedi has time and again used apprehensions as evidence to go on the offensive against the people she feels less assured about. This Wire “journalist” has been known for peddling fake stories. She posted an offensive tweet against the now BJP spokesperson Tajinder Bagga on the eve of his appointment.

Bagga’s lawyer filed a case against her in the Delhi Patiala House Court and later, the Court summoned the abusive Chaturvedi. The tweet by Bagga’s lawyer Alakh Alok Srivastav stated that the summon is pertaining to the offences punishable under sections 499,500,501 of the Indian penal code.

Dua and his lies

The Wire has also been propagating fake news through their audio-visual broadcasts. Vinod Dua is another one, who has been constantly peddling lies about the incumbent government. In his video series – ‘Jan Gan Man ki Baat’, facts are omitted and half-truths are super-imposed to mislead the viewers about the situation of the county. He constantly lies about the situation in Kashmir, he even shrugs aside facts which are a matter of public record to establish The Wire’s narrative.

Some of his lies include manipulating the number of deaths in the Kashmir valley to portray a biased picture of the Kashmir problem. Omitting key diplomatic achievements by the Indian foreign service in order to manufacture the theory of diminished stature of India in the world, to name a few.

We have exposed Dua time and again be it his lies about Kashmir and India’s foreign policy or other issues.

NSA and another botched up attempt by The Wire

The Wire after realizing the futility of their endeavour of maligning seasoned politicians tried their hands at maligning the family members of the people they despise. In another shallowly researched article, they claimed that NSA Ajit Doval’s son Shaurya Doval is at fault for serving as one of the directors in the India Foundation.

The charges made in the article essentially boils down to the apprehension that The foundation has directors who are also ministers in the Union cabinet which creates ‘conflict of interest’. If one goes by this theory then every media house is guilty of that charge and especially NDTV, as most of this media houses have shareholders who were Ministers at some point in their lives or have been bureaucrats. More so, the directors in the Foundation became directors long before BJP came into power. Telling of the Wire’s hitman mentality, Rajiv Gandhi Foundation was never brought up by anyone, let alone this leftist propaganda website.

When a report by The Wire reportedly led to violence

A report had claimed that an article published in The Wire on 19th January 2018 led to violent protests in Assam, bordering Nagaland. As per the report, following the publishing of that article in The Wire, which quoted one Jagdamba Mall, as an RSS veteran, widespread violence broke out.

The report referred to Mall as an RSS leader and quoted him suggesting a ‘separate development authorities’ for 10 Naga-inhabited districts of Manipur, Assam and Arunachal Pradesh. The report states that a one-time grant of Rs. 500 crore would be given. The report further claims that one of the groups interpreted ‘development authority’ as a step toward forward inclusion of the district with “Greater Nagalim” in the future. This led to widespread violent protests. However, it was later revealed that Mall is not an RSS leader and Chief Minister Sonowal had to come out and make a statement that the geographical integrity of Assam won’t be compromised.

CBEC slams The Wire for factually and legally incorrect news

By now, I think it has been successfully established that The Wire and its “news” are nothing more than mere tools for propaganda. The Central Board of Excise & Customs (CBEC), responsible for administering Indirect Taxes in India, operates under the Ministry of Finance, Government of India.

The CBEC had also slammed The Wire for a “factually and legally incorrect” news item when they published an article that claimed The report stated that, on August 21, 2017, the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) adjudicating authority, K.V.S. Singh, had dropped all proceedings against the Adani group. The CBEC took to Twitter to put out a letter slamming The Wire and said this news had no basis.

In conclusion, there is a saying that comes to mind when one thinks about The Wire and their precarious ways of journalism. ‘Sometimes the job of a journalist is to squeeze water out of a rock’, but in the case of The Wire even if the rock is not there, these folks, if given their way, will create a waterfall.
