Lalu’s son Tej Pratap vacated his official residence claiming Sushil Modi and Nitish have let ghosts loose

0

Tej Pratap Yadav, former Bihar minister and son of RJD (Rashtriya Janata Dal) chief Lalu Yadav, who dropped out of school after failing his 12th board exams, has vacated his official residence claiming that Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar and Deputy Chief Minister Sushil Kumar Modi have let ghosts loose in the house.

As former Health Minister of Bihar, (before the unprecedented drama which following break up of Mahagathbandhan), Tej Pratap was allotted 5 Deshratna Marg, a three-acre compound, as his official residence. However, in wake of finding the house haunted by ‘ghosts’ ‘released’ by Kumar and Modi, Tej Pratap has decided to vacate the house.

Tej Pratap’s whimsical behaviour is not unknown. Some days he likes to walk around with a flute, visiting temples, in a ‘Krishna-avatar’ because of his beliefs in the divine intervention.

Tej Pratap sometimes likes to role-play as Lord Krishna

While he was asked to vacate the house after the Mahagathbandhan broke last year in July, it took the trauma induced by ‘ghosts’ let loose by Kumar and Modi to get Tej Pratap to vacate the house.

Let it be known that this is not the first time Nitish Kumar is accused of letting loose ‘ghosts’ on the Yadavs. Back in 2007, when Lalu was asked to vacate his residence at 1, Annie Marg, a few palm trees shook when a plane flew really low. Lalu, who was supervising renovation work, believed Nitish Kumar, who had become the Chief Minister in 2005 defeating his wife Rabri Devi, had unleashed ghosts on him.

Well, since legal notices are ineffective in getting politicians to vacate their official residences after they are no longer entitled to them, ‘unleashing ghosts’ may not be that bad an idea.

People like Prakash Raj and Siddharamaiah have a lot to answer as the questions surrounding Mohammed Harris incident rise

0

Siddaramaiah’s repeated governance failures keep giving reminders to Karnataka citizens that all is not well in the state. Every time people give him the benefit of doubt, Siddaramaiah reinforces the belief that he and his government are completely incompetent in handling routine matters of governance. Especially in the recent past, he has reinforced the belief that Karnataka has become a state that has descended into the worse form of lawlessness and the state just couldn’t care less.

The recent incident of Congress MLA’s son Mohammed Harris Nalapad assaulting a commoner is a case in point. The issue was flashed in the media promptly and has created quite an uproar on social media.

Karnataka Home Minister on Sunday morning had given a deadline to Bengaluru police to arrest the guy by evening. Unsurprisingly, the police failed to do that. This is not because he went into a hiding in a jungle. Far from it. He was in a 5-star hotel in the heart of Bengaluru. And it is certainly not like no one knew about his whereabouts. Rajya Sabha MP from Karnataka Rajeev Chandrashekhar, in fact, tweeted about this. Moreover, he explicitly suggested the way to nab him:

That the police failed to arrest him is a minor lapse in the scheme of things. On Monday morning, the crook arrived at the police station like a royal and the police were waiting for him. Images of him coming with friends or bodyguards aired across all Kannada news channels. It seems like the entire event was perfectly staged.

By the time the crook came to the police station, there was a huge crowd gathered. This crowd comprised of people from all parties viz. Congress, BJP and JDS. One fails to understand why the Police didn’t find out the reason for the crowd to gather right in front of the station. Are they so incompetent? Or were they instructed to wait for the crook to surrender?

One must remember that “he surrendered” looks more politically positive headline in this election season than “he was pulled by his hair by the police”.

Now on to the mystery about why he was not arrested immediately. Rumours are afloat that the crook was given time to erase all evidence. Now, presumably, police will not be able to find the CCTV footage of hotel or hospital, where this crook assaulted the victim twice. There will soon be no incriminating evidence. Personnel in hotel and hospital would be bought – after all, he is a rich, spoilt, notorious son of an MLA. They will also more likely prove that Vidwath (the victim) as a BJP mole. They will step it further by making this a secular/communal issue. After all, what better way to reduce any issue than bringing this as an anti-Muslim rhetoric.

Congress on its part has remained completely silent. The Home Minister of the state is nowhere to be found to explain the failure to arrest the crook promptly. Siddaramaiah is busy taking credit for the new projects to be launched by the Central government. The crook’s father – the MLA – is going completely scotfree. Why was he not expelled from the party? Why is no one asking for an apology? Why is the media not hounding him?

On a related issue, on Sunday there were many tweets shared about Prakash Raj praising this crook only in January this year. He said for this crook: “This is how a boy should be raised. He is a model youth”. This was all when the guy had posted Instagram pics with guns. Now, one of the biggest grudges Prakash Raj has against Modi is that when Gouri Lankesh was killed, apparently some ppl who were followed by Modi were celebrating her death. So, the newbie politician wanted Modi to condemn and apologize for that. Now, if he expects Modi to apologize for people who he follows on Twitter, doesn’t it mean that Raj should apologize for saying that this guy is a model youth? To show he is indeed serious about reforming the society, shouldn’t he quit making political statements. Of course, BJP should hope he doesn’t quit politics. The thing about loudmouth actors is that sooner than later, they will talk nonsense and get caught out. By the looks of it, Prakash Raj has just begun.

Gujarat Municipal Elections: BJP wins 47 Nagar Palikas, thumping victory in Narendra Modi’s hometown

0

In a welcome news for the BJP, the party has won 27 out of 28 seats in the Prime Minister’s hometown, Vadnagar, where it lost the Assembly seat in the recent elections. The BJP had managed to win the Gujarat elections for the 6th consecutive time but the opposition had targeted Modi for his party losing the seat in his own hometown. 74 municipalities in 22 districts went to polls on the 17th of February along with 2 district panchayats and 1423 gram panchayats. Initially, 75 municipalities were supposed to go into polls but the BJP won Jafrabad unopposed. The BJP had won 59 out of the 74 Nagar Palikas in 2013.

The BJP retained Gathda and Dwarka municipalities and snatched Chalala and Dhrol municipalities from Congress. The Congress, in turn, managed to topple the BJP in Salaya municipality. The Congress party scored a thumping win in Rajula municipality in Amreli by winning 27 out of 28 seats where it had won the seat in the previous Assembly elections.

Overall, the BJP has won 47 Nagar Palikas, down from its tally of 59 last time, and the Congress managed to increase its tally to 16 while independents have won 4. After a blip in the Assembly Elections, the BJP seems to have recovered lost ground in the local body polls.

Non-bailable warrant issued against Choksi in 2016, Siddharamaiah government did not act

Times Now has revealed that the Karnataka High Court had issued a non-bailable warrant against Mehul Choksi in 2016 which the Karnataka government under Congress’ Siddharamaiah did not act upon.

Karnataka Congress has responded to the Times Now’s expose by tweeting in defence of their Chief Minister.

Times Now had reported on unaccounted transactions between Anita Singhvi, wife of Abhishek Manu Singhvi of Congress, and Nirav Modi worth crores. Karnataka Congress conveniently twists their report to portray the news channel of going after normal transactions between individuals.

Earlier, Nirmala Sitharaman had accused the wife of the Congress leader of leasing out property to Nirav Modi.

After Rahul Gandhi’s own party member accused him of attending Nirav Modi’s hotel event in 2013, the role of the Congress in the fraud is becoming more and more evident. Despite the attacks on the media by the party, they will still have to explain why the Siddaramaiah government did not arrest Mehul Choksi after a non-bailable warrant was issued against him by the Court.

While Modi takes a tough stand for Captain Amarinder, Congress wants to hug Trudeau

0

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who has repeatedly broken protocols while receiving heads of foreign countries, did not go to receive him at the airport himself when Trudeau and his family arrived in Delhi for a seven-day trip. Instead, Gajendra Singh Shekhawat, Minister of State for Agriculture and Farmer Affairs received him at the airport and his meeting with PM Modi is scheduled to take place on 23rd February. Pointing it out, Canadian columnist put out a tweet mentioning how a ‘low ranking official’ was sent to receive PM Trudeau.

In her following tweets, she mentions how this could have been because of Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s silence over his stand on pro-Khalistan separatists.

As per Canadian media reports, Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder has taken a strong stand and refused to meet PM Trudeau, whose cabinet minister he has publicly accused of being connected to Sikh separatist movement. In April 2017, Captain Amarinder had refused to meet Canadian Defence Minister Harjit Singh Sajjan, a known Khalistani sympathiser, during his visit. Hence, while Modi Government has not made it explicitly clear that they are registering their reservations against the Canadian Government’s implied support to pro-separatist movement, speculations are that the BJP government is taking tough stand against Canadian government’s treatment meted out to Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder as well as their non-committal stand against pro-Khalistan separatists. Yesterday, when Trudeau visited Agra, he was received at the airport by the district magistrate, unlike his Israeli counterpart, Benjamin Netanyahu, who was received by Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath at the airport.

While BJP government snubbed Prime Minister Trudeau for flirting with Khalistanis, Congress seems to be seeing it as an opportunity to take a dig at Prime Minister Modi. Congress social media head Divya Spandana said she would give Trudeau a hug because India loves Trudeau.

She even added a hugging emoticon, probably to show how sincere her hug to Trudeau was. However, soon enough she got called out for her ‘hugplomacy’.

Even journalists, who have traditionally been anti-Modi saw merit in the government’s stand, but not Congress.

Not just Divya, even Congress’ national spokesperson Sanjay Jha was busy undermining India’s united stand against pro-separatists, in support of Congress leader and Punjab CM Captain Amarinder.

Jha and Divya snubbed their own party Chief Minister just to bring down Prime Minister Modi, who stood up with Captain Amarinder, despite political differences. Wonder if Spandana felt the need to defend Trudeau, who is busy courting Khalistani separatists because she has fashioned Congress President Rahul Gandhi’s social media campaign to project him as next liberal leader after Trudeau.

With 1500 squatters kicked out from Lutyens bungalows, it might explain why its always Modi vs All

0

Yesterday, the Prime Minister inaugurated the BJP’s gleaming new headquarters on Deen Dayal Upadhyay Marg in New Delhi. Naturally, this event was highlighted prominently by most major news portals, channels and newspapers.

Predictably, there were also people on social media taking potshots at the PM and the ruling party, mocking them for making a show of wealth and asking why the party needs grand new headquarters. While these people were misinformed, I feel that it is unfair to call them trolls. Because the media at large has done a very poor job of informing the public about what goes on in Lutyens’ Delhi. This is likely a direct result of the fact that the media is closely involved with the exact same power elite that has benefited all these years from the colonial comforts of Lutyens’ bungalows.

So, here are the facts. Why is the BJP moving? Because there is actually a directive from the Supreme Court asking not just BJP, but all parties to vacate their Lutyens’ bungalows and move out.

Untitled.png

So, for any Modi baiters out there on social media trying to shame the ruling party, the BJP is not making a show of wealth. It is merely being the first and only party so far to comply with the Supreme Court order. Too bad for you.

And, for sure, the Congress Party has also been allotted space in New Delhi for its own office. In fact, Dr Manmohan Singh and Madam Sonia Gandhi laid the foundation stone for the Congress’ new HQ as far back as December 2009. And the Congress has done with this new space exactly what you would expect the Congress to do with anything it can get its ‘hands’ on. It took the new space *and* kept all the four bungalows that it was already occupying in Lutyens’ zone.

Their real election symbol is a closed fist, the open palm of the hand is just for show.

This also seems like an opportune moment to talk about the cleaning up that has happened in Lutyens’ Delhi since the Modi government came to power. In the first year itself, more than 460 squatters were sent packing out of their cosy Lutyens’ bungalows. Many of them had been staying there for generations, some approached the courts with appeals to let them keep their fiefdoms. But to no avail.

Ajit Singh, the son of former PM Charan Singh was squatting on a bungalow. He was locked out and his belongings thrown on the lawn.

Painter Jatin Das, the father of actor Nandita Das, was enjoying another bungalow in Lutyens. Evicted!

Have you ever wondered why Modi has no friends? Why it is always “Modi vs all”?

That is one possible answer right there. Only today, Kumar Ketkar was asking in The Print why Narendra Modi does not have an army of intellectuals defending him, unlike the Nehru-Gandhis. Dear Ketkar, this information may be of interest to you!

More than 460 evictions from Lutyens’ Delhi in his first year alone. But Narendra Modi was just getting started. By late 2016, the number of evictions had swelled to 1500.

Untitled.png

You know why they love living in Lutyens’ bungalows so much? Because of the colonial sense of privilege, the prestige and the fact that all of it comes for the low price tag of only around Rs 16,000 a month.

But, as The Hindustan Times reported,

“the government came up with a rule, fixing 10% additional charge to the rent for the first month of overstay. For the second, the penalty goes up to 20%, and doubles each subsequent month until the charge reaches the maximum limit of Rs 10 lakh.”

The penalty doubles each subsequent month?

You can draw a graph and sketch the rising intolerance.

As I mentioned before, there are only a handful of articles in the media documenting this cleanup mission in Lutyens’ Delhi. There is even a whataboutist article in The Wire explaining how the Congress had been more generous in letting people, including BJP leaders, hang out in Lutyens’ bungalows in the past. But while scanning these few articles, I found this absolute gem of a quote in The Telegraph from an unnamed Congress MP.

“The Congress had a long tradition of not implementing the rules so strongly.”

This quote should go on the Congress party’s flag. Now you know why it is always “Modi vs all.”

Musharraf admits to ISI cultivating terrorists, insists that it is the right strategy for Pakistan

0

In an interview with the Guardian, former Dictator of Pakistan, Pervez Musharraf, has admitted that the Inter Services Intelligence (ISI) helped cultivate the Taliban to counter then Afghanistan President, Hamid Karzai’s government, for harbouring officials thought to favour India.

“Obviously we were looking for some groups to counter this Indian action against Pakistan,” Musharraf said. “That is where the intelligence work comes in. Intelligence being in contact with Taliban groups. Definitely, they were in contact, and they should be.”

Musharraf also said that his government had tried to undermine the Hamid Karzai government in Afghanistan as the latter had helped “India stab Pakistan in the back.” The former dictator, Musharraf, said “In President Karzai’s times, yes, indeed, he was damaging Pakistan and therefore we were working against his interest. Obviously, we had to protect our own interest.” However, he has urged the Pakistan Government to mend ties with now Afghan President Ashrad Ghani Ahmedzai who he believes is the last hope for peace in the region.

Pakistan has been wary of the growing ties between India and Afghanistan which would shift the balance of power further towards India. Last year, India had sent its first wheat shipment to Afghanistan through the Chabahar port. The Chabahar port would allow India to bypass Pakistan for its trade with Afghanistan and enable Delhi greater access to Central Asia. Pakistanis see the Chabahar port as detrimental to their interests with some even calling it a security threat.

Musharraf also displayed his hate towards India although he claimed otherwise. He was also contemptuous of the favourable opinion towards India in western countries.

“India is the greatest democracy, promoter of human rights and democratic culture’? All bullshit,” he said. “There is no human rights. The religion itself is anti-human rights. In the rural areas, if even the shadow of an untouchable goes on a pandit, that man can be killed.”

Musharraf is convinced that India is trying to break up Pakistan again, reflective of the fact that the Pakistani establishment still has not recovered from the defeat inflicted on them by India in 1971. He accused Indian intelligence agencies of fomenting separatism in Pakistani soil. But after admitting that the ISI “should be” in touch with terrorists, he insists that peace should prevail. “The RAW of India, the ISI of Pakistan has always been fighting against each other since our independence. That is how it continued, it continues now also. It must stop, but it can only stop when leadership on both sides show the will to resolve disputes and stop confrontation in favour of compromise and accommodation.”

“Peace talks” coming from the man accused of murdering his own country’s former Prime Ministers and the man who ‘mulled deploying nukes’ after the Indian Parliament was attacked in 2001 by the very people he espouses, of course, is amusing.

As the numbers of surrendered ultras soar, in another massive victory, security forces gun down 20 naxals

0

In a major victory for the Security Forces on Sunday, the special Director General, anti-Naxal operations on Monday told ANI news that they had successfully gunned down more than 20 Naxals in Chattisgarh’s Sukma district. As per the Director-General D.M. Awasthi, the security forces comprising of the elite Commando Battalion for Resolute Action (CoBRA) gave a befitting reply to the Naxals in the operation.

It was reported yesterday that the encounter started at about 11 AM in the Elarmadgu village, falling under the Bhejji police station region of Sukma and went on till about 5 PM. The heavy firing which accompanied the encounter, unfortunately, resulted in the death of two security personnel and injured six others. A road construction manager too was one of those who had perished.

The action against the Naxals on and off the battlefield has seen various positive developments in the last few years.

As per the figures maintained by the South Asia Terrorism Portal (SATP), the year 2017 saw a total of 150 left-wing terrorists getting killed. Apart from this, a total of 547 such Naxals opted to leave their violent ways and surrender. The state topping the encounter charts was Chhattisgarh with 78 deaths. Its Maoist bastion of Dantewada was what witnessed the most surrenders, clocked at 195.

2016 was even more fruitful in this aspect, with security forces killing about 244 Naxals and about 2281 chose to surrender. Chhattisgarh in this case too topped the charts with 133 Maoist deaths. 2018 so far has begun on a positive note and as per data updated till 11th February, a total of 18 Naxals have been killed and 7 have surrendered.

Here’s a chart of a total of Maoist deaths and surrenders in the past 10 years:

Going via a broader spectrum, from 2005 to 2018, a total of 2684 Maoists have been killed in encounters. The years have also unfortunately seen a very high number of civilian and security personnel deaths of 3062 and 1936 respectively.

Such a data analysis though might merely tell a part of the story as besides encounters, the Indian administration is using one of the most powerful weapons at its disposal – Development.

As reported in the past year, the development includes setting up of mobile towers and construction of roads. The construction of roads came in the backdrop of the Centre deciding to spend a whopping Rs 11,000 crore for providing road connectivity to 44 Maoist-affected districts, including Chhattisgarh’s Sukma, where 25 CRPF personnel were killed in a deadly Maoist ambush in April.

Besides this, it was reported how the Indian Railway had successfully started the first Express train in the Maoist bastion of Dantewada.

The ITBP jawans had given another jolt to Maoist aspirations by building a bridge over Tatoda river in the Maoist-infested Kaneri village of Chhattisgarh’s Rajnandgaon district, in just 30 days. This bridge before its completion was pending for about 9 years due to the Maoist threat and its construction was pitted to help around 10,000 villagers of 60 villages.

Ram Temple must be seen as a historical reparation by Muslims of India

0

In every civilised society, whenever grave historical wrongs are done by a particular community on another community, it is recognised and corrected to whatever extent possible. Apologies are given by people who have not committed the wrongs on behalf of their ancestors. It is important for Muslims to apologise to Hindus for all the temples destroyed by their ancestors. As the Ram Temple hearing has resumed, we need to tell the Muslims of India about the concept of historical reparations.

Examples and utility of historical reparations

In America, the white community has an affirmative action program for minorities and women. Similarly, in India, the entire Hindu community repents for historic wrongs done on Dalits and Adivasis. Therefore, we have made special provisions for their welfare and upliftment in the constitution.

Even the whites of South Africa who ran the oppressive Apartheid system confessed to their fellow citizens and made lasting peace through the truth and reconciliation commission. As a result of this honest exercise in acknowledging wrongs by the whites, the society was able to quickly heal and return to normalcy. As a result, violence and strife were avoided.

Wounds inflicted on a community in the past cannot be undone. But they can be soothed and justice can be done partially when acknowledged honestly and some corrective action is taken. If the past wrongs are brushed under the carpet or rationalised using some sort of logic, then the wounds of past fester forever. They will take an ugly form of hatred and culminate in violence.

Muslim community has been insulated from the wrongs committed by their ancestors

The RSS/right-wing claims that the Muslims who reside in India, Pakistan and Bangladesh were once Hindus and they have left their original faith because of conversion. However, this fact is plainly rejected by Muslims of India. They take pride in the Islamic empires that ruled India in the past. The recent example of Tipu Jayanti celebrated in Karnataka is an example for this. In fact, one of the reasons for partition of India in 1947 was the loss of prestige among Muslims as they had been reduced from a ruling class to a ruled class.

In spite of the bloody history of conversions, temple desecration and finally the partition, the Muslim community has escaped all scrutiny and criticism for their past acts. One wonders the reason for this studied silence on all the atrocities committed by forefathers of Muslims in India. Probably, it is done to preserve the secular fabric of India

The sole credit for festering wounds of the Hindus all over India is due to the firm conviction of the establishment to not acknowledge the historical wrongs of Muslims in order to ‘preserve’ communal harmony. Had these wounds inflicted by rulers like Aurangzeb/Babur, been acknowledged and addressed, we would not have had communal hatred and violence in India. Worse still, these ‘secular liberals’ strive to wash off or rationalise the barbaric acts of Muslims from history books.

We cannot defend the uncivilised destruction of the Babri Masjid. At the same time, we can’t deny the frustration and pent-up anger in the mob which culminated in the demolition of the Babri Masjid. Had it been addressed in the past, it would not have manifested in the form it did.

While the law takes its own course, at the same time, the country’s Muslims must not forget that their ancestors have destroyed hundreds (or thousands) of Hindu temples in the past. And, they must agree to give back a few sites as historical reparations to the Hindus of India. This will go a long way in generating goodwill between the two religions in India.

Communalism of majority more dangerous than communalism of minority – Nehru

When Nehru was addressing an open session of All India Congress Committee on 11 May 1958 said :

Communalism of the majority is far more dangerous than communalism of the minority

The Prime minister had also said that only through social cohesiveness could the nation make progress. But he had not understood that the social cohesiveness is not a one-sided affair. It must be a mutual feeling. Threats to social cohesiveness, including historical animosities must be addressed openly and honestly to make way for harmony. The festering historical wounds of Hindus has only been aggravated by this partisan attitude to the issue of communalism. This is the reason for the stupendous electoral success of BJP during the Ram Janmabhoomi movement.

Make way for temples in most holy sites of India

The Ram temple was questioned by many because it was buried under the ground. But there is something which is very visible and ugly reminder of Islamic oppression of the past. The Kashi Vishwanath temple (also known as Gyanvapi mosque) in Varanasi. How do the Muslims and secular politicians propose to gloss over this structure?

One would have expected Muslims to accept their mistake in demolishing the temple and handing it over to Hindus. But there is a case going on in this issue as well. But they go on to say that a mosque once built can never be destroyed or moved from its location. This is a lame excuse as we know that a mosque was demolished after payment of 35 lakh compensation to make way for a highway in UP recently.

All Muslims of India don’t share this feeling. The chief of Shia Wakf board, Wasim Rizvi has openly supported the Ram temple. There may be many more voices like him. The media and all other politicians must listen to them and start the process of healing historical wounds persisting among Hindus of India.

Congress MLA’s son Mohammed Nalapad Haris surrenders to police, gets a rousing welcome outside the police station

0

Yesterday, the Congress party had expelled the general secretary of its Bengaluru youth wing for six years after he was accused of brutally thrashing a person at a pub. The accused, Mohammad Nalapad Haris reportedly spent 24 hours in a 5-star hotel for a day before surrendering to the police this morning.

What is more surprising is that the goon’s father, Congress MLA NA Haris has not apologised for the incident. He accused the political parties of politicising the incident while speaking to the media. The MLA also claimed that he has asked his son to surrender. In addition to this, Mohammed Haris got a rousing welcome at the Cubbon Park Police station as his supporters had thronged outside the police station in large numbers.

BJP and JDS protestors were also present outside the police station. The police struggled to manage the crowds. The protestors demanded that the police must register a case under IPC section 307 (attempt to murder). They also suspected that the police would register a soft complaint that would allow him to escape easily.

The attitude of Congress supporters demonstrates the brazen support that Mohammed Nalapad Haris’ enjoys in Congress. Times Now reported that his supporters treated him as a hero and supported him in spite of his brutal attack on a citizen at the pub.
