AIMPLB member expelled for Ayodhya talks with Sri Sri Ravi Shankar

0

The All India Muslim Personal Law Board (AIMPLB) has expelled its member Salman Nadwi for holding discussions with Sri Sri Ravi Shankar regarding a peaceful out of court settlement of the Ayodhya dispute.

On Friday, Board secretary Maulana Rehmani had clarified that Salmna Nadwi had met the Art of Living founder in his personal capacity. Subsequently, an investigation was launched into the meeting and the statements issued by Nadwi.

Board Member and MP, Asaduddin Owaisi also reaffirmed the Board’s uncompromising stand on the Ayodhya debate.

Earlier, Nadvi had told News18, “Board says we will wait for the Court verdict. But in my opinion, today’s scenario demands other solution as well. We must not fight and resolve the issue with hatred. We should work towards unity & harmony and a solution with consensus. I was expressing my views in the meeting, but it looked many members had come pre-planned to target me and create an issue.”

UP Sunni Waqf Board moves SC against Allahabad HC order to remove mosque from premises

0

In November 2017, Allahabad High Court ordered removal of a mosque built on the court’s land after encroachment. The High Court had directed the High Court registrar general to ensure that no part of high court premises, either in Allahabad or Lucknow, should be used for religious activities. The mosque authorities were directed to vacate the site and peacefully hand over the possession within three months.

However, on Saturday, the Uttar Pradesh Sunni Waqf Board has moved the Supreme Court against the judgement. As per Bar And Bench, an appeal was filed through advocate Fuzail Ahmad Ayyubi, where the Waqf Board contended that the judgment of the High Court erred in law, as it did not appreciate the facts and the law presented by the appellants. The petitioner has said that the mosque came into existence in 1959, but was not open to public. In 1981, the mosque was made public and since then it has been used by general public to offer Namaz five times a day.

The petitioner claims that the mosque causes no obstruction to entry and exit of the High Court since it has separate entry and exit from inception. Indira Jaising appeared on behalf of the Waqf Board and the next hearing is scheduled for 16th March.

Selective feminism of liberals in India shields minorities and offenders who are part of their ‘ecosystem’

0

Recently, there was a huge hue and cry over Manohar Parrikar’s remark regarding consumption of beer by girls. A Twitter trend was started to ‘assert’ the freedom of girls. The Ramayana reference made by PM Modi during his address in Rajyasabha to describe Renuka Chowdhury’s laughter was also called as a instance of patriarchal attitude that prohibited women from laughing. Underneath this noise, there is a much deeper crisis among the liberals and ‘progressive’ figures in India.

Laughter , Beer , Dowry vs Triple Talaq , Nikah Halala , Polygamy

Nobody said that the act of laughing is a prohibited. Modi had taken a jibe at an irritating cackle that was intended to heckle, mock and disrespect the PM during his speech. This remark was interpreted as an example of patriarchy and fundamentalism.

Parrikar did not ask girls to stop drinking beer. He said that he was concerned about girls drinking beer . “I have begun to fear now, because even the girls have started drinking beer. The tolerance limit is being crossed.” Further, he was speaking in the context of addictions of college students, and not adult independent people. Long winding opinion articles were also written about  Parrikar’s and Modi’s remarks. A flag of revolt had been waved by the liberated women of ‘secular liberal bandwagon’

However there is absolute silence from the same ‘secular liberal’ ecosystem on polygamy and nikah halala. Polygamy is a straightforward example of discrimination against women in Muslim society. The freedom to have four partners is available only to men.

Nikah halala , an Islamic law that requires a divorced muslim woman to marry and sleep with another man in order to return to her first husband, is even more disturbing. When they are not willing to speak on such issues can we expect a criticism of burkha from this ecosystem?

Though the petitioners in Triple Talaq case had asked the court to examine polygamy, nikah halala and triple talaq, the court examined only one of the social evils. There were no opinion articles or hashtags from the secular-liberal brigade on these issues.

Are they OK will oppression of women by a community as long as they are anti -BJP /anti-Modi ? Instead of condemning such practices, they emphasise on social evils in Hindu community like dowry.

Jail for pronouncing Triple Talaq is “unprecedented” but same punishment is acceptable for a Hindu convicted of bigamy

The selective and twisted arguments among so called liberals to insulate Muslims from any reform , that too in the name of the constitution is amusing. For them, the idea of a uniform civil code is part of the communal agenda of BJP.

However, the constitution has listed this to be one of the goals of modern India under directive principles. Article 44 of the constitution says : Uniform civil code for the citizens The State shall endeavour to secure for the citizens a uniform civil code throughout the territory of India

This is one of the examples of a ‘secular – liberal’ defending Sharia.

Another example of deploying ‘logic’ to defend men who pronounce Triple Talaq is here. We had also reported about a Supreme court lawyer saying ‘punishment for triple talaq goes against freedom of speech’

The desire to reform only Hinduism and to block any progress on problems with Islam is a characteristic feature of liberals in India. Their argument on this topic oscillates from ‘let the reforms happen from within Muslim community’ to ‘this is blatant show of power by BJP on minorities.’ The contradiction in this attitude is captured in the speech of Modi in parliament recently.

These two examples are just a highlight of the wide ranging instances of hypocrisy in the ecosystem. The desire of the secular-liberal ecosystem to protect rape accused when the person is one of their own is well known in the Tarun Tejpal  episode. Apologetic tone in reports of a ‘liberal’ who sent sexually loaded messages to underage girls was also seen recently in the case Shamir Reuben is also well known.

One wonders if this debate is carried out only to score brownie points against political rivals. Hence this wide gap in scrutiny and criticism of patriarchy, harassment and anti-women practices in the ‘secular-liberal’ constituency is a matter of great concern to a neutral bystander in the debate.

Modi in Abu Dhabi : Key agreements signed and foundation stone laid for the first Hindu Temple

0

Narendra Modi landed in Abu Dhabi on Saturday in his second trip to the Gulf country since he became the Prime Minister. The Prime Minister held talks on various with the Crown prince of Abu Dhabi, Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan as the two countries signed five agreements related to various sectors.

The most significant among them was the historic pact between the Indian Consortium (OVL, BPRL & IOCL) and ADNOC which awards the consortium of Indian oil companies a 10% stake in offshore oil concession. “The concession will be for 40 years from 2018 to 2057, 60 % of the participating interest will be retained by ADNOC and remaining 30 % will be awarded to other International oil companies. This is the first Indian Investment in the upstream oil sector of UAE, transforming the traditional buyer-seller relationship to a long-term investor relationship,” a statement on Narendra Modi’s official website said.

Speaking on the agreement, the Prime Minister said, “The offshore concession in favour of the Indian consortium has taken our bilateral engagement in the oil and gas sector to a new level, which befits the comprehensive strategic partnership between our two countries.” Other MoUs were signed and exchanged related to the energy sector, manpower, rail and the financial services.

The Prime Minister also launched the foundation stone laying ceremony of the first Hindu stone Temple in Abu Dhabi. During the event, Narendra Modi said, “I believe this temple will not be only unique in terms of architecture and splendour, but will also give a message of ‘Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam’ to people across the world.”

The Temple will be built by Indian Temple artisans and will come up on a 55,000 square meters of land. The Temple is expected to be completed by 2020 and will be open to people from all religious denominations. The organization charged with the responsibility of the construction of the Temple has also built the Akshardham Temple at New Delhi and the Temple at Abu Dhabi will seek to replicate the one in Delhi.

Sunjuwan attack: pregnant woman who was shot at, delivers a baby girl

0

Some good news coming in from the valley. A pregnant lady, who was shot at during the Sunjuwan attack, delivered a baby girl earlier today. The 35 year old pregnant woman was reportedly shot at during the Sunjuwan attacks where terrorists were holed up near the residential quarters inside Sunjuwan Army camp. The terrorists had struck before dawn on Saturday and managed to sneak into the camp from the rear side of the base after a brief exchange of fire with the sentry on its periphery. As of now, six soldiers and one civilian have lost their lives in the ongoing attack. Four terrorists have also been killed in the operation.

However, amidst news of the dastardly attack, there is one good news that has emerged. A pregnant woman was shot at in her lower back after the terrorists struck the camp, has delivered a healthy baby girl early today morning. She is the wife of one of the soldiers, Rifleman Nazir Ahmad.

On Saturday, a group of heavily armed Jaish-e-Mohammad terrorists attacked the sprawling camp of the 36 brigade of Jammu and Kashmir Light Infantry in the early hours around 5 am. Two of the attackers in combat gear were also gunned down while nine people–a major, three personnel and five women and children–were injured in the day-long operation on Saturday. The operation to flush out the terrorists is still on. The army has cordoned off the area so that the terrorists could be neutralised.

Did Manohar Parrikar really condemn girls drinking beer?

0

Twitter erupted yesterday with news of Manohar Parrikar, the Chief Minister of Goa, saying that he is scared of girls drinking beer. Liberals were quick to condemn the Chief Minister and trend pictures of themselves drinking beer under the hashtags #GirlsWhoDrinkBeer and #GirlsDrinkingBeer.

However, the full quote by the Chief Minister shows that Manohar Parikkar was perhaps speaking of the larger drug menace and it was an innocuous remark made in the context of his larger observations. The audio clip shows that the remark was made in jest with regards to changes our society has undergone and it was perceived as such by the audience.

The usual knee-jerk reaction from certain sections to innocuous comments without understanding the proper context in which it was spoken has become increasingly prevalent in recent times. A rough translation of the speech, by a Twitter user who goes by the handle ‘@ThisPosable‘, is as follows.

Manohar Parrikar clearly says there has always been a group of students in schools and colleges who would watch porn and smoke marijuana. He then goes on to say now even girls have begun consuming beer which scares him as tolerance limits are being crossed. The context here is of school and  college children hence it may be construed that Parrikar was in fact referring to girls in schools and  collegese. He also quite clearly speaks critically of the group of boys who used to indulge in such behaviour at schools and colleges who are underaged.

This statement clearly indicates that his issue probably wasn’t with girls drinking beer, but underage boys, and now underage girls, indulging in substance abuse.

Regardless of our political inclination, we can at least agree that more and more youth consuming alcohol and drugs is not something to be encouraged or glorified.

Soft Hindutva in public, minority appeasement in private and creating caste divide in secret seems to be the Congress mantra

0

The crucial southern state of Karnataka is up for polls this year and recently anointed Congress President Rahul Gandhi is gearing up to go temple hopping for his party’s election campaign. Symbolically, in the next week, he would visit two religious centres of the Lingayat community and one Dargah during his trip to the state.

Whether intentional on not on his and his party’s side, this might start getting analysed as “soft Hindutva” triumphing its longstanding “secular India” narrative, which time and again has been perceived as an “anti-Hindu” or “minority appeasing” perception by various political observers.

During the buildup to the Gujarat elections, the Congress party had surprised many by openly declaring its intention to woo Hindus, with its “star campaigner” Rahul Gandhi going on a literal “temple run” during the state’s campaign. The party further ‘saffronised’ Rahul as a Janeu-dhari Shiv Bhakt’ when rumours spread about his name being registered in the non-Hindu register of the Somnath temple.

Back then it might have been perceived as a desperate measure of the party to curry favour among Hindu voters to maintain political relevance, in an era where its fortunes were rapidly dwindling. Making some feel that it would be something which the party might cool off in the future.

But no, come January, Rahul Gandhi began his Uttar Pradesh tour by taking darshan at a Hanuman Temple on route to Amethi. Now intentions have again being made clear in form of the temple visits which have been lined up in Karnataka.

As is said, “Once is chance, twice is coincidence and thrice is a pattern”. Are we seeing a dawn of a new Congress party, as a so-called pro-Hindu party which till now used to be BJP’s exclusivity?

Before conclusions could be passed, came a spanner in the works.

PM Modi was speaking in Rajya Sabha on Wednesday. During his speech, Congress MP Renuka Chowdhary found something very funny and laughed in a manner which many felt was deriding and condescending. Modi didn’t take it lying down and quipped that, “after so many years since Ramayana are we able to hear such a laugh”.

This was almost universally considered as comparing Ms Chowdhary’s laughter with that of Ravana’s sister Shurpanakha.

In the resultant chaos, reports emerged which quoted senior Congress leader Anand Sharma as stating that, “PM Modi believes in “fiction” and “mythology”, not science hence he (Modi) must have watched Ramayana several times”.

When you are trying to woo Hindus, it is generally accepted you can avoid indirectly dismissing one of the most Revered Hindu scriptures as “fiction”. What might make it more stinging for people is that about a decade ago the Congress-led UPA government had submitted before the supreme court that “there was no historical proof of Lord Ram”.

Continuing in this context, in December, the Congress party had decided to maintain ambiguity over its stance on Ram Mandir by refraining from commenting on the matter. The explanation given then, was that it would be unfair to comment on a subjudice matter. Its senior leader Kapil Sibal though was making other noises, with reports claiming that he was trying to delay the verdict in the matter, by openly trying to push the issue beyond the 2019 elections.

So what is it with the Congress party, when it comes to its pro-Hindu push?

Is the party’s hypocrisy a relapses into an old habit, like a rehabilitating addict not being able to avoid past habits, while desperately wanting to start a new life? Or is it that, the whole soft Hindutva push is merely a facade to hide the party’s true identity and principles.

Some might question whether this ‘conflict’ within the party was a mere representation of some tussle between the conflicting ideologies of the old and the new guard, symbolised by Rahul Gandhi succeeding his mother Sonia.

But is the new guard at its core any different from the old guard? As after-all, the new age leader Rahul Gandhi himself had told the US ambassador that Hindu extremists were a bigger threat to India in context of the Lashlar-e-taiba.

This statement was made in the day and age when the ecosystem was desperately peddling the ‘Hindu Terror’ narrative by maliciously arresting ‘Hindu terrorists’, in cases like the Malegaon and Samjhauta Express blasts. This has now been started to be called into question by media reports, which have alleged that the UPA government had let off Pakistani suspects in the Samjhauta blast case to try and further the false “saffron terror” narrative.

Some of the arrested in the “Hindu terror” cases like Col. Purohit and Sadhvi Pragya only managed to procure bail in 2017, with the latter’s lawyer claiming that she should have been granted bail within five minutes.

Besides this Hindu terror bogey, was the infamous communal violence bill which the Congress-led UPA government wanted to enact. In a nutshell, the communal violence bill in itself was considered communal by many, with it stipulating that only religious or linguistic minorities could be labelled as victims of communal violence. How would the party explain this, while opting for a pro-Hindu push?

All this is apart from the noise made by the state level leadership of the Congress, which includes Karnataka CM Siddaramaiah asking for the opinion of district heads regarding withdrawal of cases lodged against minorities. After public furore, he decided to take a U-turn. Just to mention, he also has possibly signalled his intention to play by the “old rules”, when he called BJP and Congress Hindutva terrorists.

So considering this, is Congress planning on playing an “overtly pro-Hindu” and “covertly same old same old” game, to satisfy all its planks? What also emerges is that Congress is using the “soft Hindutva publicly, minority appeasement privately, and caste divide covertly” tactic to try and keep all factions happy. We have seen their divisive tactics since time immemorial. Most recently, with their unholy support to people like Jignesh Mevai and Hardik Patel, their tacit silence during Koregaon violence, their direct involvement in the Padmaavat row, and beyond. While Congress tries to publicly appease Hindus, it has time and again jammed a dagger in the Hindu back by dividing them on the basis of caste.

Yesterday it was Gujarat, today its Karnataka and tomorrow it may be the 2019 Lok Sabha elections where the party decides to openly play the soft Hindutva card, but what it can’t possibly deny is the skeletons from its past which promptly call into question the party’s integrity regarding its “redeveloped image”.

Such a paradoxical situation which the party now finds itself into might result of its decade-long lopsided public positions which prominently began since the Shah-Bano case.

It might be some time before some form of consistency (if at all), starts appearing in the party’s stances, but until that happens, the perception could continue that the party might never be able to whitewash its anti-Hindu genes.

The importance of a Hindu temple in Abu Dhabi, that is allowed to display Hinduism proudly

0

As a casual observer, one might wonder why is there so much brouhaha over a Hindu temple coming up in Abu Dhabi. Some of the liberals might even question its validity and point to the other travails that the Indian community especially the labourers face. But as a kid who spent 10 years of his childhood in Abu Dhabi, this issue was one of prime importance

Today in the news, all you might hear is of how tolerant and generous UAE is. But UAE wasn’t always like that. It had its moments of flirting with terrorism especially under the previous ruler. UAE was one of three nations that recognised the Taliban in Afghanistan. The other two being Saudi Arabia and Pakistan. As a practising Hindu going to a temple meant a visit to Bur Dubai.

And for all those who point towards the greatness of Dubai because of its temple, one visit to the Bur Dubai temple will break that misconception. The temple is in a location that is hidden from general public view and has narrow alleys leading to the temple building. Nothing of the exterior structure would suggest that its a temple. Rumour has it that the then Dubai ruler agreed for a temple to be built as a return favour to a rich Gujarati businessman who provided a loan to Dubai during their early days of the oil boom. Anyway, as a proud Hindu the sight of the Bur Dubai temple is more of embarrassment and humiliation than salvation

But don’t get me wrong, as a kid with practising Hindu parents we were never unduly tortured because of our faith. The general discrimination was present though. Pakistani taxi drivers always looked down upon us with contempt, stories of relatives being targeted at the workplace was common and explicit display of our faith in public was frowned upon. My father who worked in a local Emirati company always assured me that the local Emirati community was different. And whatever little interaction we had with them it seemed that way as well. Especially since the transfer of power from the previous ruler to the current one in Abu Dhabi, things have been different.

Abu Dhabi began seeking global recognition. With Dubai needing Abu Dhabi’s assistance during the economic crisis the capital of the UAE became the focus of the world. And Abu Dhabi stepped its game up. It invested heavily in renewable energy. It began showcasing itself as a model to the world and only one issue remained: the question of secularism. It permitted the Indian Social Center to hold ‘poojas’. The Ministry of Tolerance was set up and in 2015, during the historic trip of our Prime Minister, the land for the temple was allocated

This temple is going to be different. It is going to showcase Hinduism proudly. The followers of the faith in the UAE won’t have to lose themselves in a maze of alleys to get there.  This bold decision was not without controversy in the UAE but Abu Dhabi had truly shown the path this time

That is why this temple is so important for all Hindus in UAE and all over. In addition, it is also an indication of the soft power of India in the region now. Hope that is not lost to anyone.

Ministry of tourism sponsors a literature festival filled with India and Modi hating figures

0

The Modi government is not living up to the reputation of ‘intolerance’ it is supposed to have for those who oppose Modi. The ministry of tourism is one of the lead sponsors for the Kerala literature festival. The literature festival is filled with anti-Modi and even anti-India figures who have called him all sorts of vile names. One wonders why the ministry of tourism has extended support to an infamous gathering by wasting taxpayers money. List of sponsors includes financially sick Air India and Incredible India as per the sponsors page of the literature fest’s web page.

Infamous figures in the gathering

Arundhati Roy who has called India a Brahminical state which is oppressing Christians, Tribals, Sikhs and Muslims, is a speaker at the event. She has been widely quoted in Pakistan and has a sympathetic view of Hafiz Saeed and terrorists who struck Mumbai on 26/11. Her article titled ’26/11 was not India’s 9/11′ says :

All these years Hafiz Saeed has lived the life of a respectable man in Lahore as the head of the Jamaat-ud Daawa, which many believe is a front organization for the Lashkar-e-Taiba. He continues to recruit young boys for his own bigoted jehad with his twisted, fiery sermons. On December 11 the UN imposed sanctions on the Jammat-ud-Daawa. The Pakistani government succumbed to international pressure and put Hafiz Saeed under house arrest. Babu Bajrangi, however, is out on bail and lives the life of a respectable man in Gujarat. A couple of years after the genocide he left the VHP to join the Shiv Sena. Narendra Modi, Bajrangi’s former mentor, is still the chief minister of Gujarat. So the man who presided over the Gujarat genocide was re-elected twice and is deeply respected by India’s biggest corporate houses, Reliance and Tata.

Ashis Nandy who called Modi a clinical, classic case of a fascist in an essay is also part of the festival. He wrote (emphasis added) :

More than a decade ago, when Narendra Modi was a nobody, a small-time RSS pracharak trying to make it as a small-time BJP functionary, I had the privilege of interviewing him along with Achyut Yagnik, whom Modi could not fortunately recognise. (Fortunately, because he knew Yagnik by name and was to later make some snide comments about his activities and columns.) It was a long, rambling interview, but it left me in no doubt that here was a classic, clinical case of a fascist. I never use the term ‘fascist’ as a term of abuse; to me, it is a diagnostic category comprising not only one’s ideological posture but also the personality traits and motivational patterns contextualising the ideology.

Not surprisingly, Ashis Nandy’s event in Kerala literature fest is about fascism.

These two examples are just a sample. The list includes the Prakash Raj, Rajdeep Sardesai and Sagarika Ghose.

Was the ministry for tourism ill-informed about the nature of the program?

The more unlikely explanation is that the ministry of tourism ill-informed about the nature of the programs and sessions at Kerala literature festival? There hundreds of dilapidated monuments in India which need attention. It would have been great if the ministry funded rejuvenation and maintenance of these monuments rather than fund a bunch of hard-line leftists who have a visceral hatred for the current prime minister and some people, who even have visceral hate for the country.

NDTV wins best English News Channel Award, the jury members won’t surprise you

0

NDTV, which has in past appeared to be using ‘ads for call girls’ for attracting revenue traffic and then denying and blaming it on oversight, has won ‘Best English News Channel’ award at the ENBA event concluded last night. However, looking at the jury members who conferred the award, many Twitter users took it as an opportunity to take a jibe at NDTV. Among other jury members, two names which stood out were Raghav Chadha, National Treasurer, Aam Aadmi Party who likes to give defamatory statements in his free time, and Sanjay Jha, Congress spokesperson who also shares fake pictures on Twitter.

Some of the reactions of twitterati were amusing.

Former NDTV employees, who tried to congratulate, were also reminded of the jury.

Some even likened the award to the IPL athlete bidding process.

While others brought in the data.

While NDTV may have won the award, we all know which channel most people tune in to, to love it or hate it.
