We predicted eight hilarious tropes that media will repeat during Gujarat elections, all have come true

0

At the start of November, during the buildup for the Gujarat elections, @CW_dynastycrook, had written an article where he predicted that the Indian media will repeat eight hilarious tropes during the elections.

Now that the campaigning for the Gujarat elections has ended, which also means the conclusion of a section of media’s ‘pseudo campaigning’, we decided to revisit @CW_dynastycrook’s predictions to check how accurate they were.

In what reaffirms @CW_dynastycrook’s sharp vision, and Indian media’s ability to act in an inane and intellectually bankrupt manner, we found that all, yes all of his predictions have come true.

Here are the eight predictions and corresponding ‘implementation’ by the media:

(1) The Patels are angry:

Here it was predicted that in every election, the media finds one Hindu caste that is supposed to be angry with Modi. Such a strategy seems to be in line with dividing Hindus on caste lines which is the mainstay of the “Idea of India” approach to electoral politics.

Publications like TheWire, Quint and The Telegraph obliged:

(2) Modi is dividing the people by religion:

This prediction explored that sooner or later, the PM would make a tough remark against opponents which would become the election’s highlight. Something like the “Shamshan-Kabristan” remark which the PM made during the UP elections.

An IANS post and a DailyO post proved us right.

(3) Modi is nervous and/or desperate:

It predicted that PM Modi like he always does, would give the state elections everything he has. This means sweating it out, holding rallies trying to convert every opportunity into a victory. But the liberals would deliberately mock the PM by claiming that these efforts of his, show his nervousness and desperation.

The articles at Point 2 partly touch on this, plus we had pieces like this:

(4) Rahul is becoming a youth icon along with other young leaders:

After giving the example of Rahul Gandhi being flanked by the young “leaders” Hardik, Alpesh and Jignesh, in Gujarat, the article argued that liberals would choose all their “youth icons” from among the children of the old establishment or among those who claim to represent caste votebanks.

Media’s predictable action:

Welcome leftist website Scroll, which came up with an article called, “Rahul Gandhi’s ascent to Congress chief may be made easier by young leaders in regional parties”. The Week too decided to take a similar route and argued in its article that the congress party has polarised anti-BJP forces by bringing, young leaders like Hardik Patel, Jignesh Mevani and Alpesh Thakore on board.

(5) My Gujarati stockbroker says BJP will lose:

This point covered the notorious habit of the liberals to predict electoral results based on what their maids, cooks and drivers feel.

Like they say, old habits die hard. The associate editor of The Print tweeted out how her taxi driver predicted that the Congress would form the government in Gujarat. Well spotted by Ankur Singh.

(6) BJP must win ‘X’ number of seats for it to qualify as a ‘real’ victory:

This notorious practice of claiming that the BJP needs to bag an inordinately high number of seats (which are well above the majority mark) to truly be declared the winner, might be one of the liberal ways to try and save face after a defeat.

Possibly predicting a BJP victory, TMC MP and former quiz master Derek O’Brien kick started the trend by coming up with this statement:

The Hindu too obliged via an editorial:

(7) Rahul is a winner for effort:

As per the modern liberal thinking, participation prizes are a very important element in the electoral process as a result Rahul Gandhi and the Congress are already declared as winners even before the electoral process has even begun.

To fulfil this prediction, controversial journalist Sagarika Ghose decided to step in by tweeting this out:

(8) Bonus fact : EVMs are rigged, ‘First Past The Post’ is a bad system:

It was predicted that such EVM malfunctioning allegations surface would after a heavy defeat, which might be considered a classic case of shooting the messenger.

We got this prediction slightly wrong as the media and politicians decided to spread these allegations even before the conclusion of the first phase of voting. Within hours of the start of voting, we reported how Twitter users accused NDTV of spreading panic about malfunctioning EVMs.

Sagarika Ghose again decided to help up out by spreading allegations that EVMs were being hacked via Bluetooth.

Finally….

One hopes that the 100% accuracy achieved by @CW_dynastycrook’s prediction, makes the media realise the monotonous and stale nature of its narrative peddling.

By talking about PM Modi’s skin colour, is Congress suggesting he’s racially inferior to Rahul?

0

For Prime Minister Narendra Modi, getting abuse hurled at him from the Congress Party is nothing new. BJP President Amit Shah makes here a short list of all the abuses that he could remember, directed towards PM Modi:

Untitled.png

What is worse is that a lot of jibes against the Prime Minister have revolved around his humble origins as a tea seller and his OBC caste background. The most (in)famous of these is probably Mani Shankar Aiyar’s “chaiwala” remarks from early 2014. But other senior leaders of the Congress have done just as well, such as Ghulam Nabi Azad calling him a Gangu Teli, an obvious reference to Modi belonging to the Ghanchi (Teli) caste.

The NSUI has often gone a step further, with posters such as this, leaving absolutely no room for imagination.

Untitled.png

And of course, Sonia ji and Priyanka ji have been referring to Modi as “neech” for a while now. For mysterious reasons, Mani Shankar Aiyar has recently earned himself a suspension from the Congress Party for repeating this slur that the Congress top bosses have been using for years.

After jibes on his caste and humble economic background, the youth Congress magazine recently took potshots at Modi for possibly mispronouncing English words. There is no “humor” or satire in this graphic posted by them except saying that those who aren’t very comfortable in English should stick to selling tea. They shouldn’t dream of becoming Prime Minister of India and rubbing shoulders with other world leaders.

Untitled.png

In Congress circles, this is supposed to be funny.

I guess a racist jibe had to be coming too. Clearly, the Congress Party did not want to leave this box unchecked.

Untitled.png

Except that this hardly seems like a laughing matter. What does it mean when the leader you are fighting for is racially half white and you end up talking about the skin color of his principal opponent?

The Congress’ top leadership consisting of Sonia ji, Rahul ji and Priyanka ji are all either white or half white. Their main challenger Modi ji is not. And you say that apparently Modi ji is taking special mushrooms to whiten his skin color?

What other meaning does this have? Is the Congress Party suggesting that the PM is somehow inferior to Rahul ji because Modi does not have white parents?

So far, the Prime Minister has not responded to this latest jibe on his racial origin. I guess he is taking the high road. Remember Michelle Obama’s words “when they go low, we go high”?

But I am not as generous as the Prime Minister. We can’t let this pass. The Congress has mocked Narendra Modi for being born poor, for being born in a “lower” caste and now they have mocked him for being born with dark skin unlike their top leaders. I am going to throw a taunt at the Dynasty and its sycophants where it hurts them the most.

Tell me, Congress folks, how do you feel when dark Narendra Modi is seen rubbing shoulders with white world leaders? Does it hurt? Does it hurt you deeply? Good.

Posters emerge which proclaim Rahul Gandhi as Shiv Avatar, Parshuram’s descendant and even Arjun Avatar

0

Ever since the campaigning for the Gujarat elections began, one of the more noticeable things was Rahul Gandhi’s new found affinity for Hindu tradition and culture.

It was reported how Rahul Gandhi was visiting one temple after another in the state, including the famous Somnath Temple. Here he became a victim of a gaffe after social media erupted with reports of his name appearing in the ‘non-Hindu’ register. Rather than tactfully dealing with the issue, the Congress caused extra confusion and later took things to the next level by calling Rahul a “Janeu dhaari Hindu”.

This though didn’t dent his spirit and he continued his Temple Run by visiting the Shree Ranchhodji Temple in Kheda. Here too he had to face embarrassment after he was greeted with “Modi Modi” slogans while exiting the temple.

Based on latest information, Rahul’s temple darshans are continuing and he was last seen at Ahmedabad’s Jagannath temple on Tuesday.

This affection for Hinduism isn’t limited to Rahul and Congress party cadres have been putting up posters portraying Rahul as some divine Hindu icon.

Recently, columnist Abhinav Prakash shared a poster on twitter where its seen that Rahul Gandhi has been referred to as a Pandit:

As seen above, in the poster ‘Pandit’ Rahul Gandhi is seen getting blessings from all the gods. Initially people might have felt that this was a one off instance, as a result of overtly enthusiastic party workers, but that hasn’t been the case.

Since then news about other posters have emerged, which take things to the next level by calling Rahul Gandhi as a descendent of gods.

As shared by Gita S. Kapoor, one poster is seen proclaiming Rahul Gandhi as an avatar of lord Shiva and the other one calls him a descendant of Lord Parshuram who was the sixth avatar of Lord Vishnu:

The poster is calling for Shiv avatar Rahul Gandhi to become India’s next Prime Minister

In the above poster Congress leaders from Uttar Pradesh are seen congratulating, Shiv Bhakt, descendant of lord Parshuram and Janaudhari Pandit Rahul Gandhi on becoming the President of the Congress party.

Incidentally Hasib Ahmad, the Congress leader from Allahabad was once also in the news for designing very creative posters to praise the Gandhi family.

In this process to proclaim Rahul Gandhi a Hindu scion, the Congress workers though seem to be disagreeing over his lineage. Contradictory to the above claims of him being a Shiv avatar, this poster claims that he is actually a Arjun Avatar:

Arjun Avatar or Shiv Avatar, who is Rahul?

One hopes that the Congress party calls a press conference in the near future to clarity Rahul’s ancestry so as to remove this confusion being faced by the Congress workers.

Vinod Dua is back, to spread misinformation on FRDI Bill

0

That Mr Vinod Dua lies, is no longer shocking. We first saw how Mr Dua managed to squeeze seven half-truths and whole lies (actually eight), in one single video. We then deep-dived into his videos to unearth many more lies he has spread. In his latest video, Mr Dua does not disappoint.

Dua talks about the much-hyped FRDI Bill. We had done 2 fact-check pieces on the fear-mongering. Subsequently other finance sites have agreed. The government too put out huge advertisements to clear the doubts emanating from dooms-day reports. Mr Dua though is maybe living under a rock or is being deliberately economical with the facts.

Before coming to FRDI, Dua makes his patent claim on demonetization: that this scheme has allowed tax evaders to “legitimise” black money, by allowing them to deposit the same in the bank. May be he should tell this to the 18 lakh odd depositors who got contacted by the Income Tax Department under Operation Clean Money. Or to the 1.16 lakh od depositors who have received notices from the Income Tax Department based on their demonetisation data. Maybe the words of a MA in literature, will have more bearing than that of the tax department.

After the above potshots, Dua moves to FRDI Bill. He claims that via the new FRDI Bill, money in savings accounts upto Rs 1 lac will be insured, but the depositor will not have any right over the amount above that limit. He adds that, banks will have right on this money over and above Rs 1 lakh, and that this money, will be used by banks, to give as loan to companies whose businesses are collapsing.

First of all, the FRDI Bill does not specify the insurance limit. As explained earlier, the Rs 1 lac insurance is as per the DICGC Act, which will stand repealed once the FRDI Bill comes into force. So there is no question of this Rs 1 lac cover being brought in by the FRDI Bill.

This insurance limit of Rs 1 lac was fixed 24 years ago in 1993. Prior to this, the insurance amount was set at a measly Rs 1500 in 1961. The insurance amount increased by 66 times over 32 years. Source based reports in media suggest that this limit will be increased “substantially” via the new regulations. Common sense wise too, a revision after 24 years (going by past record) will be substantial.

Dua’s other claim that money over and above the insurance limit will be used to give to failed businesses too is patently wrong. The FRDI bill provides that such money will be converted into a long-term instrument which is still owed to the depositors. Later in the video, Dua himself mentions this. Then why did he first claim that this money will be given to failing businesses?

Again, as Dua later mentions that this money will converted into longer term instruments like Fixed Deposits, shares etc, why does he initially claim that depositors will have no right over this money? Why cannot Mr Dua be consistent with facts over a small 5 minute period?

In all of this, Dua does not mention that this “bail-in” clause comes into effect only if a bank fails. This is a crucial bit of information, which if revealed, then the agenda of fear-mongering fails. Is this why Mr Dua hides it? Instead he claims: “Iss waqt, aam aadmi ke paise saath, jo ek lakh ke upar hai, chhed chaad hone jaa rahi hai, bankon ke control mein aane jaa raha hai” (Now, the common man’s money, which is above Rs a lakh, will be tampered with, will come into the control of banks). This is plain fear mongering. If die to such comments, there is panic among depositors and they start withdrawing their money out of misplaced fear, causing liquidity crisis, will Mr Dua be ready to face criminal charges and jail time?

Also, Mr Dua fails to educate the viewers of the current (pre-FRDI bill) position, the position which was gifted to us by the Congress Governments of the past. Mr Dua likes to allocate credit of current missile launches to Nehru, but fails in highlighting what Nehru or his progeny have gifted to bank depositors.

Today if a bank goes bust, a depositor gets nothing over and above the insurance limit (of Rs 1 lakh). But in case a bank goes bust in FRDI bill regime, the depositor gets the insurance amount (unspecified) and the balance gets converted into a longer term instrument (i.e. money is not lost). The contrast is clear. The depositor at least can stake claim over his money once the FRDI Bill (in its current form) comes. Unlike the past where he has to say goodbye to anything above Rs 1 lac. Has Mr Dua not been educated on this?

The video ends with a grim message: That this 5 minute bit was a curtain raiser and Mr Dua armed with his MA in literature degree, will come back to guide us on financial bills. We hope someone tells him: We are watching.

Arunachal Pradesh’s civil service exam questions found copied from a Pakistani website

0

A Pakistani website named www.cssforum.com.pk, claims to be a complete resource for Central Superior Services competitive exam, which is a gateway to enter Pakistan’s premier civil services.

Even though the website seems to be useful for Pakistan’s civil service exams, it might also start becoming invaluable for candidates appearing for Arunachal Pradesh’s civil service exams, if a Hindustan Times report is to be believed.

It has been reported that more than half of the questions asked during the recent preliminary exams of Arunachal Pradesh Public Service Commission (APPSC) were copied from this Pakistani website.

The candidates realised this after they decided to research more about these questions which were framed in Pakistan’s context.

If this wasn’t enough, a part of the remaining questions were plagiarised from 2008’s Union Public Service Commission exams. The paper setters though failed to methodically carry out their copy paste as these UPSC questions didn’t have proper options to choose from.

The so called ‘laziness’ didn’t stop here and, candidates claimed that 90% of the questions in the sociology paper were lifted from an online discussion forum. Plus 60% of veterinary exam questions were obtained via a similar process.

Apart from the questions, the question paper too was of a poor quality. Most of the papers were photocopied and some were also tampered with, which might suggest the possibility of a leak.

As a result of this fiasco, a steering was committee formed to demand a re-examination. One of its members named Nani Bath has claimed that the committee has set a deadline, asking APPSC to conduct a retest within 3 months.

A social activist named Patey Tayum has also demanded that the APPSC chairperson Tajom Taloh should quit by taking moral responsibility.

Recently we had reported how Assam’s civil services too were embroiled in a serious controversy.

11 Assam officials were arrested in connection with a job-for-cash scam this November, which was perpetrated during the erstwhile Congress regime. Of the 11 arrested, 7 belong to the Assam Civil Services (ACS) and 4 belong to the Assam Police Service (APS).

People go crazy after Congress leader claims Modi became fair after eating imported mushrooms

0

Alpesh Thakor a prominent OBC youth leader who recently joined Congress, was expected to add fresh blood and new caste dynamism to the party. Things though don’t seem to be going according to plan as reports have claimed that he isn’t bringing many new voter to the party.

What he does seem to be bringing on board is, banter and comedy. Today he created quite a flutter on social media after news report quoted him as claiming that PM Modi became fair after eating imported mushrooms:

He also claimed that Modi eats 5 mushrooms per day which costs a whooping Rs 80,000 per mushroom.

Most people found his claims absurd to say the least and possibly in order to shrug off the afternoon blues, decided to crack hilarious jokes:

After objectively looking at Thakor’s statement, its seems that there is an interesting back story to this whole affair.

Turns out that the rumour first might have emerged in a Gujarati newspaper and was then mainstreamed by a India Today’s Tez TV report, which claimed that mushroom was the reason behind PM Modi’s fitness.

Later a Bhaskar report claimed that Modi is able to work 16-18 hours a day because he eats Mushrooms from Himachal Pradesh on a daily basis. This report claimed that these mushrooms cost about Rs 30,000 per Kg.

Thakor now seems to have decided to add further spice to this affair by claiming that not only did mushrooms make Modi fair, they also were imported and cost a whooping Rs 80,000 per piece.

Going at this rate, it won’t be surprising to see some politician claim that Modi is promoting India’s space program so that he can grow mushrooms in space, eat them and thereby solidify his grip over power.

Science Channel video clip saying Ram Setu was man made goes viral on social media

0

Science Channel is a popular scientific documentary channel which is part of the Discovery communications network. It is estimated that about 75.48 million American households subscribe to this channel. A few of the popular TV programs aired by the network include Mythbusters, How its Made and Through the wormhole with Morgan Freeman.

One of the programs aired by the network is What on Earth, which uses satellite imagery to explore unexplained objects which defy explanation. On Monday, the official twitter handle of this network shared one of the clips from this program titled Ancient Land Bridge:

This clip takes help of images sent by a NASA satellite which captured images of large submerged objects running between India and Sri Lanka. The clip claimed that close investigations have suggested that this line of rocks is more than 48 KM long. It then detailed the Ramayana angle to this structure, where it is believed that Lord Ram built this bridge to cross over from India to Sri Lanka.

These stones as per oceanographers are placed on a shoal/sandbar which occur in shallow water where sand can accumulate between two landmasses. As per the narrator, even though the sandbar may be a natural occurrence the rocks sitting atop may not be so. One cast member thus claimed that the stones were brought from afar and set on top of the sandbar.

Things are taken up a notch when the clip mentions a geological claim about the rocks placed above the sand, predating it by about 3000 years. As per claims, these rocks are about 7000 years old while the sand present below it is a mere 4000 years old. This as per the video clip suggests that the structure isn’t natural but was made by men.

Considering the significance of this video clip, people decided to react in large numbers:

Apart from reacting, social media users also proceeded to share this clip in wide numbers. Till the writing of this report, the video clip has about 123,000 views and more than 10,000 Retweets.

Now one wonders whether such a widespread and positive response for this video clip, would spur worldwide science networks to further develop documentaries exploring Indic history and beliefs which till date have largely been brushed off as myths by the leftist establishment.

Mehbooba Mufti govt virtually rules out setting up a minority commission, which would have helped Hindus

0

The Mehbooba Mufti led BJP-PDP government, has as per reports told the Supreme Court that it has no plans to set up a minority commission in the state. A setting up of such a commission might mean that the minorities in the state like Hindus and Sikhs could have availed minority benefits worth crores.

Even though demographically Jammu and Kashmir is a Muslim majority state with a total 68.31 % Muslim followed by 28.44% Hindus, the Muslim community continues to avail all the minority benefits.

Such a paradox is witnessed in 7 other states of the country namely, Lakshadweep, Mizoram, Nagaland, Meghalaya, Arunachal Pradesh, Manipur and Punjab. Out of these 7 states, 4 have a Christian majority, one has a Muslim majority and one has a Sikh majority.

As a result of this, Delhi BJP leader Ashwini Kumar Upadhyay filed a PIL in the Supreme Court, which sought that Hindus be given a minority status in these eight states. The Supreme Court though refused to entertain this petition and asked the petitioner to approach the National Minorities Commission.

Since then reports have emerged which claim that the National Commission for Minorities has in-turn referred the matter to the law commission for its opinion, comment and advice.

Another such individual who is leading the fight in this regard is Jammu-based lawyer Ankur Sharma. Sharma has filed a PIL in the Supreme Court which sought the formation of a minority commission in Jammu & Kashmir. Sharma has argued that minority Hindus aren’t able to avail the benefits of centre and state minority welfare schemes.

In a response to this, the Jammu & Kashmir government has filed an affidavit before the court, where it has virtually ruled out setting up such a commission. It has claimed that the National Commission for Minorities Act, 1992’s implementation is not binding and is solely based on the state’s prerogative.

The affidavit then claimed that the government would examine the need and feasibility of such a commission as and when need arises. This will be based on a critical study of the social and educational backwardness of the minorities spread across the state.

The affidavit also decided to indulge in whataboutery by questioning as to why did the petitioner only demand the setting up of a minority commission in Jammu & Kashmir and not in all the other states and union territories which are yet to set it up.

The Supreme Court too has indicated that its hands are tied in this matter after it categorically stated that it cannot direct the Jammu & Kashmir government to form such a minority commission. The apex court in turn asked the centre to deliberate on this matter.

Congress office-bearer who spread fake ‘survey’ of Gujarat elections, booked

0

In the ongoing Assembly elections in Gujarat, the Congress party seems to be trying desperate measures to stay relevant in politics. Yesterday, Gujarat Congress IT cell head Rohan Gupta had posted a fake ‘survey’ predicting poll results, which showed Congress set to sweep the assembly elections. The BJP, which has been in power for 22 years in Gujarat, wasn’t too amused by it.

Parindu Bhagat, in-charge of Gujarat election legal cell, on behalf of BJP leaders has filed an application that at at 2:25 PM on Sunday, Congress IT Cell chairman Rohit Gupta, from his Twitter handle @rohanrgupta, tweeted an exit poll for the ongoing Gujarat Assembly Elections. This ‘exit poll’ showed Congress getting 65+ seats out of a total 89 constituencies, in the first phase of Gujarat election. BJP was pegged to get 22 seats while others were pitted to get 2 seats.

The IT cell head Rohan Gupta is the son of Congress leader Rajkumar Gupta.

BJP’s application further claims that the exit poll picture had a watermark of one Chanakya India (chanakyaindia.in). It then claimed that the survey was a fake and has been done with an intention to influence the second phase of polling (which is to be held on 14th December).

This as a result violates the Election Commission’s notification which bans publishing of exit polls till 5 pm on 14th December, after the second phase of voting concludes. The BJP thus requested necessary legal action for the same.

Meanwhile, Congress in its defence has claimed that this ‘exit poll’ was based on an online survey based on a website called chanakyaindia.in.

Interestingly it turns out that the domain chanakyaindia.in is owned by the company named Comet Green Energy, which also owns gujaratcongress.in:

To complete the triangle, this company, Comet Green Energy, is owned by Rohan Gupta, who supposedly spread the survey in the first place.

As a result of all this cyber merry-go-round an offence has been registered against Gupta in Ahmedabad Crime Branch’s cyber cell.

Also, Unisafe.in, the other website registered with the email id [email protected], is that of a “direct broker” company named “Unisafe Insurance Brokers Private Limited”. One of the directors of this company is Rohan Rajkumar Gupta, who is also a Director in other companies like Comet Communications Private Limited, Comet Global Private Limited and Comet Performance Chemicals Private Limited.

Modi exposed : Only Ind-Pak relations were discussed at meeting that did not happen

0

Remember last year in October? At that time, the government of Pakistan got really fed up of Indian claims of a surgical strike across the LoC. In order to expose India’s lies, the Pakistani government decided to take busloads of foreign journalists on a ride … to the exact spot where the surgical strikes did not happen … to prove that they never happened.

Few months ago, Pakistan’s foreign minister had to warn us that if India carries out another of the surgical strikes that definitely did not happen, they will not show any restraint.

This is exactly the kind of hilarious reaction that we have seen from the Congress Party and its fellow travelers ever since Prime Minister Modi said this at a campaign rally in Gujarat:

Narendra Modi's statement on secret meeting of Congress and Pakistan

Here is the reaction from the Congress party:

Congress denies meeting with Pak envoy

Hmmm… I’ll take you at your word then, dear Congress. I guess Modi ji’s lies are finally exposed:Biased journalist 'exposes' lies by Modi

Awesome! Now Modi ji’s lies are doubly exposed. Ex Army Chief Deepak Kapoor has confirmed to The Indian Express that only India Pakistan relations were discussed at the meeting at Mani Shankar Aiyar’s house and nothing was said about domestic Indian politics:

General Kapoor says no domestic politics was discussed

Wait! Give me a second here.

If the meeting did not even happen, then how come “only” Indo-Pak relations were discussed at the meeting?

So, was Modi exposed then or is Modi exposed now? Is Modi exposed or not? Did the meeting happen or did it not happen?

Incidentally, this has been happening a lot with the Congress recently, again involving neighboring countries with which India doesn’t have particularly friendly relations.

First, there was the “fake news” as Congress called it about Rahul Gandhi meeting the Chinese envoy while Indian and Chinese soldiers were in an eyeball to eyeball standoff at Doklam:

Congress denies Rahul Gandhi meeting Chinese envoy

This was shortly before the Congress Party confirmed the meeting and Rahul Gandhi explained that it was his job to stay informed:

Rahul Gandhi admits meeting Chinese envoy

So which one is it? Were they lying then or are they lying now?

Does the Congress Party even know the difference between truth and lies?

I guess we will never know.

What seems increasingly likely however is that the Congress Party will soon be taking busloads full of pet journalists to the exact spot in Mani Shankar Aiyar’s house where the meeting with the Pakistanis definitely did not happen … to prove that the meeting never happened.
