The Wire withdraws article after claims of discrepancy in electoral bonds list by The Quint’s Poonam Agarwal fall flat: Read about lies and embarrassment

Far-left propaganda portal The Wire on Monday had another moment of embarrassment as it pulled down an article that raised aspersions on the integrity of the electoral bonds list released by the State Bank of India citing claims made by The Quint ‘journalist’ Poonam Agarwal.

“This story has been removed because the claims made by the reporter have not been substantiated,” The Wire article titled ‘Journalist Who Purchased Electoral Bonds Points To Possible Discrepancy In Released List” read, harking back to the time when the far-left propaganda portal had to suffer the ignominy of withdrawing stories on Tek Fog and Meta for peddling lies.

The article included Agarwal’s tweet posted on March 17, 2024, wherein she claimed that the electoral bonds list released by the SBI had named her as a purchaser of the bond on 20 October 2020 while she had purchased the bonds in April 2018. Casting aspersions on the list, The Quint ‘journalist’ had tweeted wondering if it was an error, inaccuracy or if her namesake had purchased the bond, which she said would be a big coincidence.

Several left-leaning organisations, including The Wire, lapped up the claims made by Poonam to throw shades on the electoral bonds list released by the SBI and insinuate that the bank might have altered the details. However, soon after Poonam claimed that the list falsely showed her name as a purchaser of the electoral bonds in 2020 and the left-leaning media amplified those claims, a YouTube video by her for The Quint where she explains her purchase of the electoral bonds in 2020 surfaced online, with many X users questioning her claims and insinuations of SBI list being tampered.

Here’s the video:

Hours after The Wire withdrew its story, Poonam took to X, formerly known as Twitter, to admit that she had indeed bought electoral bonds in 2020, and blamed the fiasco on her poor memory citing COVID-19. After being caught lying about the purchase of the electoral bonds, Ms Agarwal urged to not question the SBI data.

“Clarification: I have come across a video that I recorded at The Quint in which I am showing an #ElectoralBond dated 20/10/2020/ I don’t remember purchasing a bond in 2020 but only in 2018. Unique number will clear my doubts. Till then let’s not question SBI data,” she tweeted.

Left-leaning ideologues had hailed Poonam Agarwal for her ‘revolutionary journalism’

It is noteworthy to mention that several notable left-leaning ideologues had hailed Poonam Agarwal as a revolutionary over her “investigative journalism” on electoral bonds. Sushant Singh acclaimed her as a “bonafide star” whose story forced the centre to acknowledge that every bond could be tracked using a secret serial number that was only visible in UV light.

The Wire ‘journalist’ Arfa Khanum Sherwani urged her followers to subscribe to Poonam Agarwal’s YouTube channel and watch her videos on electoral bonds.

Ravish Kumar, among the foremost leftist ideologues and known lately for being a YouTuber, also went into raptures over Poonam Agarwal for her story on electoral bonds having hidden alpha-numeric codes that the government could use to draw a link between donors and political parties.

SBI’s response in SC busts far-fetched insinuations by The Quint’s Poonam Agarwal on electoral bonds

As Poonam Agarwal’s claims of discrepancy in the electoral bonds list released by SBI fall flat, it is worth noting that the submissions made by the State Bank of India in the Supreme Court earlier today busted the other set of insinuations made by her about the hidden alpha-numeric code on electoral bonds. Poonam Agarwal, who was booked for abetment of suicide in the Army Jawan’s suicide case in 2017, had alleged that the electoral bonds were not completely anonymous and that the secret codes on them could be used by the Centre to link donors with political parties.

Senior advocate Harish Salve, representing SBI, revealed that the bond numbers issued by the banks are only available on the bond and not anywhere else. The bank also added that the hidden alphanumeric code was a security feature and not for auditing purposes.

In essence, the SBI conveyed two things. First, just because the bond contains hidden numbers, it doesn’t mean they can be used to link donors with political parties. Second, they don’t have a record of the alpha-numeric codes on the bonds, shattering the web of insinuations that The Quint ‘journalist’ Poonam Agarwal had weaved in her report that was widely hailed in the leftist circles as “pathbreaking journalism”.

The Quint journalist had tried projecting her assumptions as facts by claiming that the secret codes on the electoral bonds could be used to draw a link between donors and the political parties, thereby compromising the promised anonymity to the donors, while also being a tool of surveillance for the Centre to know who was donating to which political party.

Another ridiculous argument that Agarwal furthered is that the watermark is enough and the alpha-numeric hidden code was not needed for security purposes. This doesn’t hold water because that would mean even currency notes don’t need serial numbers printed on them for security as they, too, have watermarks.

Since SBI has confirmed it hasn’t documented the figures, if the Supreme Court presses, SBI might scan the bonds and release the numbers, potentially connecting them to the recipient political parties. However, linking them to the donors seems a remote possibility. But the revelation has put paid to the far-fetched assumptions and leaps of faith made by Poonam Agarwal.

Some political parties like the DMK and AIDMK were able to publish the donor names presumably because the companies may have given them the bonds directly. But for others, like the TMC and JDU, which said many donated them anonymously with some bonds being dropped in drop boxes, it is impossible to furnish the data if the parties didn’t keep the record.

Modi is the face of Shakti, I am fighting him: Rahul Gandhi tries to defend his comments against Shakti

After kicking off a political storm by stating that he is fighting against “Shakti” while himself admitting that it finds mention in Hinduism, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi has come out to clarify his remarks and accused PM Modi and BJP of “twisting his words”.

Notably, on 17th March, while concluding the Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra, Rahul Gandhi addressed a rally where he made the controversial remark. Subsequently, BJP charged the Gandhi scion of fanning anti-Hindu sentiments and misogyny

Later, Prime Minister Narendra Modi berated the I.N.D.I. Alliance leader Rahul Gandhi for his ‘fight against Shakti’ remark. PM Modi also asserted that he is willing to sacrifice his life in the service of Nari Shakti. He also stressed that this Lok Sabha election will be between those who want to destroy Shakti and those who want to seek blessings from Shakti, adding that 4th June will be a showdown, “Muqabla 4 June ko ho jayega.”

In an attempt to do damage control after his controversial remarks, Rahul Gandhi shared a post on X where he tried to give his controversial remark a non-Hinduism-centric spin by re-defining “Shakti’ itself.

According to the Congress leader’s post, PM Modi is the mascot of ‘Shakti’ that he is fighting against. He alleged that PM Modi does not like his words and always tries to change the meaning of them by twisting them.

Linking all his anti-Modi tropes with his definition of ‘Shakti’, the Congress leader added, “It is the Shakti that has captured India’s voice, India’s institutions, CBI, IT, ED, Election Commission, media, Indian industry and the entire constitutional structure of India in its clutches.”

Continuing with the usage of the word that means Divine Feminine in Hinduism, Rahul Gandhi further alleged, “For the same Shakti, Narendra Modi ji waives off loans worth thousands of crores from Indian banks, while an Indian farmer commits suicide when he is unable to repay a loan of a few thousand rupees.”

Joining different issues together, the Congress scion added, “The same Shakti gives India’s ports, India’s airports, while India’s youth are extended the gift of Agniveer, which breaks their courage.”

While saluting the same Shakti day and night, the country’s media suppresses the truth, Rahul Gandhi added.

In a diabolical stance, after describing PM Modi as the mascot (leader) of Shakti, the post goes on to refer to PM Modi as the “slave of the same Shakti”.

The post reads, “Narendra Modi ji, a slave of the same Shakti, imposes GST on the poor of the country, without controlling inflation, he auctions the country’s property to increase that Shakti.”

Rahul Gandhi concludes by saying, “I recognise that Shakti, Narendra Modi ji also recognises that Shakti. This is not a religious Shakti of any kind, this is the Shakti of unrighteousness, corruption, and falsehood. That’s why whenever I raise my voice against him, Modi ji and his machinary of lies get upset and enraged.”

However, it is important to note that even before PM Modi addressed the issue, several netizens expressed shock at Rahul Gandhi’s bizarre interpretation of Shakti and accused him of being a Hinduphobic and misogynistic politician.

Shakti is deeply ingrained in Hindu theology, philosophy, and mythology

Shakti is considered to be the divine feminine which is the energy present in all beings. In Hinduism, there is no concept of fighting against Shakti, instead, Shakti is what helps fight against evil.

According to Hindu mythology, there are 10 Mahavidyas (also Dus Mahavidya) who are the manifestations of Goddess Shakti. They are Kali, Tara, Tripura Sundari, Bhuvaneshwari, Chinnamasta, Bhairavi, Dhumavati, Bagalamukhi, Matangi, and Kamala. All these Mahavidyas reside in Manidweepa (the eternal supreme abode of Shakti).

TMC govt under scanner over non-submission of ‘Utilisation Certificates’. Here is what it means and why the CAG is concerned

On Saturday (16th March), the West Bengal police detained BJP leader Indranil Khan for protesting against the non-submission of 3,94 lakh Utilisation Certificates (UCs) by the Mamata Banerjee-led-government.

Khan, the State President of Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM), sought accountability from the Trinamool Congress (TMC) dispensation of about 3.94 lakh pending UCs during ‘Yuva Adda’ programme held in Hazra More in Kolkata.

While the event was disrupted by the city police, it brought into focus allegations of misappropriation of funds to the tune of 2.94 lakh crores by the State government.

For those unaware of the matter, Utilisation Certificates are official documents issued by the government upon the completion of a project. These projects are undertaken across various governmental departments such as education, agriculture, health, urban development etc.

A UC is issued only after it is ensured that funds, sanctioned by the government on completion of a particular project, are utilised in the manner intended by it.

Once a Utilisation Certificate is submitted by the government, it tells the auditors that a project has been completed and that there has been no misappropriation of funds.

CAG report on West Bengal

In March 2022, the supreme audit institution ‘Comptroller and Auditor General of India (CAG)’ tabled its 154-page report on West Bengal where it highlighted that the the TMC government did not submit a whopping 3,94,162 UCs till March 2021.

This is despite the fact that Rule 330A of the West Bengal Treasury Rules (WBTR) and Subsidiary Rules (SR) 1997, read with the Finance Department’s order (August 2005), makes it compulsory for the government to issue Utilisation Certificates within 1 year of release of funds.

CAG found that UCs for funds amounting to ₹2,29,099 crores have been outstanding till March 2021.

Page 87 of the report [pdf] states –

Audit scrutiny revealed that as of March 2021, a total of 3,94,162 UCs in respect of grants aggregating ₹2,29,099 crore had not been submitted.”

The CAG noted that between 2016-2017 and 2020-2021, the number of outstanding Utilisation Certificates of the West Bengal government increased by 59.91% while the associated pending amount increased by 87.77%

“…There has been no improvement as number of pending UCs and the amount increased by 59.91 per cent and 87.77 per cent respectively, over that reported in the Audit Report of 2016-17 (2,46,484 UCs for ₹1,22,008 crore),” the supreme audit institution emphasised.

On page 88 of the report, CAG pointed out that the pending Utilisation Certificates during the 2018-2021 period accounted for a whopping 49.54% of the total amount of all outstanding UCs.

It stated that the West Bengal government did not submit the majority of its Utilisation Certificates, relating to the Departments of Panchayat and Rural Development (₹81,839 crores), School Education (₹36850 crores) and Urban Development & Municipal Affairs (₹30,693 30,693 crores).

Outstanding UCs of these three departments accounted for 39.30 per cent of the total UCs outstanding and 65.20 per cent of the total outstanding amount,” CAG underlined.

Concerns and Recommendations of CAG

On pages 88 and 89 of its 2020-2021 report, the supreme audit institution noted that pendency in submitting outstanding Utilisation Certificates could risk the possibility of misappropriation of funds sanctioned by the West Bengal government.

In the absence of UCs, it could not be ascertained whether the recipients had utilised the grants for the purposes for which these were given. This assumes greater importance as pendency in non-submission of UCs is fraught with the risk of misappropriation,” CAG stated.

On Page 125 of the report, it further urged the TMC dispensation, “The Government may ensure timely submission of utilisation certificates by the departments in respect of the grants released for specific purposes.

PIL alleges scam, BJP seeks accountability from TMC govt

In January 2023, a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) was filed before the Calcutta High Court, accusing the Mamata Banerjee-led-West Bengal government of spending ₹2.29 lakh crores without any documentation.

“A report submitted by the CAG of India for the year ended 31 March, 2021 with respect to the finances of the State of West Bengal points out various glaring incongruities and irregularities which point towards the misappropriation and perpetration of a financial scam of massive proportions by which the public exchequer has been defrauded,” the petition read.

It added, “From the report of the CAG of India, it can be seen that UCs (Utilisation Certificates) to the tune of Rs 2,29,099 crore are yet to be received from various departments of the Government of West Bengal with the biggest defaulters being the Departments of Urban Development and Municipal Affairs, School Education, Panchayat and Rural Development with each such Department failing to submit UCs to the extent of Rs 30,693 crore, Rs 36,850 crore, Rs 81,839 crore respectively. Thus, effectively Rs 2,29,099 crore of the public exchequer’s money have been spent without there being even an iota of any documentation such as UCS which are mandatorily required.

In the meantime, the leading Opposition party in West Bengal, BJP had accused the ruling TMC government of engaging in corruption, loot and scam. It had sought the whereabouts of the utilised funds (received from the Centre)and the reason for reluctance in submitting the utilisation certificates.

BJP leader Gaurav Bhatia had dubbed the non-submission of UCs as the ‘mother of all scams.’ Party President (West Bengal) Sukanta Majumdar remarked, “Her government has tried to loot public money everywhere. The CAG report is a slap on her government’s face and exposes it.”

Mamata govt blames BJP instead

After being cornered over the CAG report by the BJP, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee alleged that the report was compiled by the saffron party.

“It is a total lie. The CAG had no information on what to write and what not to. It is a distorted fact and written by the BJP,” she claimed during a sit-in demonstration in February this year.

Later in the month, West Bengal Chief Secretary Bhagwati Prasad Gopalika and Finance Secretary Manoj Panth held a press conference and alleged that the CAG report was fraught with discrepancies.

“The state government does not accept the CAG report. A total of 8 departments have been mentioned and it talks about two lakh twenty-nine thousand crore rupees. There has been a misunderstanding. The 2021 report mentions 20 years, meaning it’s a 20-year calculation. We cross-checked with eight departments, all submitted UC up to 2022,” Bhagwati Prasad Gopalika claimed.

Manoj Panth alleged, “If they were not getting UC for 20 years then why didn’t they say earlier…Its is a wrong report.”

CAG rubbishes claims of TMC govt

Following the press conference by two civil servants of West Bengal, The Print spoke to a senior official of the Comptroller and Auditor General of India (CAG).

While rubbishing the claims made by the TMC government and its secretaries, the official said, “The West Bengal government’s statements against the CAG report are seemingly more political than factual.”

He added, “UCs are issued by the state government, so naturally the data and documents are directly taken from the state for audit. So, if the UCs were submitted, the CAG wouldn’t report otherwise. There is no error.”

“Before a CAG report is submitted, it is scrutinised eight to nine times. There are three on-field and three office scrutinies. Every corresponding document is supplied for data in a report,” the official concluded.

Conclusion

The Mamata Banerjee-led-West Bengal government has been under the scanner over multiple scams, which took place under its regime since 2011.

TMC leaders have previously been involved in the Rose Valley scam, the teachers’ recruitment scam, the Sharda scam, the cow-smuggling scam and a coal scam.

As such, it will not come as a surprise if the misappropriation of funds is detected by investigative agencies as the underlying reason for the non-submission of 3,94,162 Utilisation Certificates for funds amounting to ₹2,29,099 crores.

With just a month away for the 2024 Lok Sabha elections to commence, the BJP is trying to corner the TMC dispensation over this particular case. The recent protest led by BJYM leader Indranil Khan was a part of the same political strategy.

‘Was playing Bhajans softly as it was time for our evening puja; they came and beat him up’: father of Bengaluru Hindu shop owner demands strict action

0

Mukesh, the owner of a Hindu store in Bengaluru, Karnataka, was beaten up for playing the Hanuman Chalisa in his shop. The incident occurred on Jumma Masjid Road in the Siddanna Galli area on Sunday, March 17. Mukesh’s father, speaking to the media lamented that his son was brutally assaulted for simply playing Hanuman bhajans inside his own store.

He said that Mukesh, his elder son was playing the Bhajans softly inside the shop, yet he was thrashed by the Muslim youths. “When I reached, I saw Mukesh soaked in blood,” Gopal Singh told the media while demanding strict action against the perpetrators.

“I was not present here but my son told me that he was playing devotional songs at that time. In the evening we do puja, so obviously, he must have played bhajans only. I learnt that they came to fight with him. The sound was low only, however, they beat him up. We want justice…,” said Gopal Singh, father of Mukesh, who fell victim to an attack by a group of Islamists for upholding his religious convictions.

Meanwhile, the Bengaluru Hindu shop owner Mukesh also told the media how a group of local Muslims in the area attacked him and threatened to kill him if he failed to comply with their demands to stop playing Hindu devotional songs.

The Hindu shop owner, who spoke with ANI about what transpired, said that on Sunday, March 17, at around six o’clock in the evening, three or four local Muslims approached him and asked him to stop playing Hanuman bhajans inside the shop. When Mukesh refused to comply with their demands and inquired what the issues they were having, the Muslims said that it was time for their Azaan.

Mukesh added that he attempted to persuade them that there was still time for Azaan, but they refused to hear him and grabbed him by the neck. When Mukesh stepped out of his shop to confront them, the accused started beating him up and threatened to stab him with a knife, he said.

Mukesh responded in the positive when asked if he would be able to identify the accused. He said they were Muslim youths from the area.

Bengaluru Hindu shop-owner attacked for playing Hanuman Chalisa near mosque, police deny communal angle

Notably, Halasuru Gate Police Station in charge in Bengaluru, Karnataka, while speaking to OpIndia had denied any communal angle in the matter. “The FIR has been registered, and three people have been arrested. Three main accused were arrested yesterday night and an FIR has been registered. Enquiry is going on. Suleiman, Shahnawaz and Rohit are the main accused. There is no communal angle. It was about playing a song near the masjid. They [the accused] were telling the complainant to lower the volume of the speakers. There was an altercation over this,” the Halasuru Gate Police Station incharge said.

When OpIndia asked about the alleged reluctance to register an FIR in the matter, the officer said, “No, we had immediately done an FIR, took action and conducted searches…but some people diverted the matter saying it was a Hindu-Muslim fight.”

Earlier it was reported that the Hindu victim submitted a complaint at Halasuru Gate Police Station in Bengaluru demanding that an FIR be registered. However, it was claimed that the police were reluctant to register an FIR against the accused. Following this, a large group of local traders gathered outside the police station and pressured the authorities to register an FIR. Subsequently, the police lodged an FIR and initiated an investigation.

Incidentally, CCTV footage of the incident went viral in which the 5 to 6 accused could be seen coming to the victim’s shop on Sunday evening.

Initially, a verbal argument ensues as seen in the video. The argument soon escalated to assault as the accused youths dragged the Hindu victim out of his shop and thrashed him. The footage shows the victim singlehandedly confronting the attackers. However, he was seen getting knocked to the ground.

Taliban says it retaliated with heavy gunfire at Pakistan after air strikes kill 8 in Afghanistan

0

On Monday, the Taliban said Pakistan conducted two airstrikes in Afghanistan, resulting in the deaths of five women and three children. Additionally, the Taliban retaliated by firing heavy weapons at Pakistani forces along the border, a report published by Reuters said.

The two neighbouring nations have been accusing each other regarding a series of recent Islamist militant attacks in Pakistan. Pakistan insists these attacks originated from Afghan territory, a claim the Taliban in Afghanistan refute.

“The Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan does not permit anyone to jeopardize security by using Afghan land,” stated Zabiullah Mujahid, spokesperson for the Taliban administration. Mujahid mentioned that the airstrikes targeted the eastern border provinces of Khost and Paktika, resulting in the loss of lives.

In response, the Pakistani foreign office released a statement indicating that Pakistan had conducted “intelligence-based anti-terror operations in the border regions inside Afghanistan.”

The nature of these operations was not specified, but it was stated that they targeted members of the Hafiz Gul Bahadur militant group following an attack on a military post in Pakistan on Saturday.

Meanwhile, the Taliban’s defence ministry released a separate statement asserting that its security forces had aimed at Pakistani troops along the border in retaliation for the airstrikes.

Furthermore, the Taliban foreign office mentioned that it had summoned Pakistan’s head of mission to express condemnation for the attacks.

In a statement broadcast on state television, the Pakistani military remarked that “a recent surge of terrorism has the complete backing and facilitation of Afghanistan.” While not directly referencing any airstrikes, it indicated that the attack on Saturday was orchestrated by militants harboured in Afghanistan.

Pakistan’s government and security officials have consistently stated that such attacks have increased in recent months, with many attributed to the Pakistani Taliban (TTP) and launched from Afghan territory.

“Pakistan’s foreign office stated that over the past two years, it has consistently raised serious concerns with the interim Afghan government regarding the presence of terrorist organizations.”

The most recent attack occurred on Saturday, when a vehicle carrying explosives and multiple suicide bombers detonated at a military post near the Afghan border, resulting in the deaths of seven Pakistani security force members.

In response to Pakistan’s accusations, the Afghan Taliban has refuted claims that it allows militant groups to operate from its territory.

Taliban spokesman Mujahid commented in the statement, “Pakistan should not attribute the lack of control, incompetence, and issues in its territory to Afghanistan.” He added, “Such incidents can lead to severe consequences beyond Pakistan’s control.”

Samajwadi Party leader Azam Khan sentenced to seven-year jail in Dungarpur case

On Monday (18th March), Samajwadi Party leader Azam Khan was sentenced to seven years in jail in the Dungarpur case under IPC Sections 427, 504, 506, 447, and 120B. The Rampur MP/MLA court also imposed a fine of Rs 5 lac on the Samajwadi Party leader. Other than Azam Khan, the court convicted contractor Barkat Ali, retired CEO Ale Hasan, and former mayor Azhar Ahmad Khan in the case. The Samajwadi Party leader appeared before the court today via video conferencing from Sitapur Jail.

Notably, the case pertains to a property-related dispute in the Rae Bareilly district of Uttar Pradesh. The Asra Awas shelters were constructed in Dungarpur, where some of the residents already owned homes, under the rule of the Samajwadi Party government. Back in 2016, there were allegations that the houses built there were illegally razed and victims accused officials of corruption.

On Monday, the Allahabad High Court dealt Azam Khan a major setback. The High Court rejected the plea of Azam Khan’s Maulana Mohammad Ali Jauhar Trust. The Allahabad High Court rejected the appeal challenging the termination of the trust’s lease in Rampur by the CM Yogi Adityanath-led state government.

Notably, SP leader Azam Khan’s Rampur Public School was operating on leased land. Upon not receiving relief from the High Court, Azam Khan’s Rampur Public School will be closed. In addition to the school, many additional buildings were built on the leased place. The court reserved its decision on the 18th of December 2023, following the conclusion of the hearing in this case. The ruling was delivered by a division bench consisting of Justice Manoj Kumar Gupta and Justice Kshitij Shailendra.

It is worth noting that this is the fifth case wherein Azam Khan has been convicted in the last two years. On October 18, 2017, the Samajwadi Party leader’s son Abdullah Azam and wife Tanzeen Fatima were sentenced to seven years at Rampur MP/MLA court for using a fraudulent birth certificate.

On July 14, 2023, Khan was convicted by a Rampur court for hate speech during the 2019 Lok Sabha elections. On February 14, last year, a Moradabad court sentenced Azam and his son Abdullah to two years in a 15-year-old case for traffic obstruction. On October 28, 2022, Khan was sentenced to three years in prison by a Rampur court for hate speech from 2019.

Karnataka: 14-year-old commits suicide after being strip-searched by school teachers on suspicion of stealing Rs 2,000, two booked

0

On Saturday (March 16), a 14-year-old Karnataka student committed suicide after being strip-searched with four other classmates following a theft report on campus. The girl committed suicide on the school campus in Bengaluru two days after being strip-searched by officials.

Police said the deceased and four other female students at a government school in Bagalkot, north Karnataka, were hauled up after a language teacher suspected them of stealing Rs 2,000.

The teaching staff, including the headmaster, allegedly forced the girls to strip before taking them to a nearby temple to “prove” their innocence.

According to Bagalkot SP Amarnath Reddy, the deceased’s elder sister, who attends the same school, alerted their parents about the incident on campus. The girl, described as “sensitive” by her family, appears to have brooded about it for a few days before committing suicide.

After learning about the circumstances surrounding her death, authorities initiated an inquiry on their own accord.

As per the latest update, a case has been registered at the police station against two teachers under section 306 (abatement to suicide) of the Indian Penal Code, 1860. The investigations are ongoing.

After Pakistani national Seema Haider and Indian citizen Sachin Meena’s love affair, another case of cross-border love story has come to light. According to reports, an Iranian girl named Faiza got engaged to a Moradabad-based YouTuber Diwakar on Friday (15th March).

The girl, Faiza (24), hails from Hamedan city in Iran. She arrived in India with her father on a 20-day tourist visa to meet Diwakar. She is currently in India to tie the marital knot with the Indian YouTuber after completing all the legal procedures.

Currently, Faiza is staying with her father at Diwakar’s house in Moradabad. Diwakar, the Indian YouTuber, resides in the Civil Lines police station area of Moradabad and runs a travel blog.

According to reports, Faiza is a post-graduation student while her father Masood Akhtar is a walnut farmer in Hamedan City in Iran.

Speaking with India Today TV, Diwakar shared that he came across Faiza on Instagram three years ago. They soon became good friends and fell in love. Subsequently, both decided to get married.

Prior to Faiza’s India trip, Diwakar had visited Hamedan in July 2023 to meet Faiza where he completed certain legal procedures of marriage while legal paperwork in India is currently underway.

Diwakar told India Today, “Initially, we had casual conversations about each other’s countries as I make travel vlogs, and then we fell in love. I visited Hamedan in July 2023 to meet Faiza. We completed the legal procedure of marriage in Iran that time and now she is in India to complete the legal procedure, following which we will get married.”

Regarding the query whether he faced obstructions from his family’s side, Diwakar said that his family has no religious restrictions and Faiza can follow the customs and traditions of her religion at his house as well.

He said, “I faced a lot of problems from my parents initially, but after some time, they understood everything and accepted the relationship.”

Diwakar further stated that he learned “a little bit” of Persian from Faiza and has taught her Hindi.

According to Diwakar, they are waiting for the legal process to be completed, following which they would marry. Additionally, the couple is preparing to visit the birthplace of Lord Ram in Ayodhya and the Taj Mahal in Agra.

In an earlier case of a cross-border love affair, Seema Haider, a mother of four from Pakistan, made headlines after she entered India illegally through Nepal to live with Sachin Meena, whom she met online. The tale of Seema and Sachin caused security concerns, as there have been apprehensions about who Seema really is. Seema arrived in India on 13th May 2023 and moved to Greater Noida to live with Sachin. Police detained Seema, who was later released on bail. The woman’s story has been grabbing media headlines ever since.

Rahul Gandhi’s BJ Nyay Yatra concludes: How it was another Congress drama of sowing division, chaos, and hatred among Indians before elections

Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra, the foot march undertaken by Congress scion Rahul Gandhi right after the Congress party lost three out of four states in the assembly elections came to an end on 17th of March. The Congress leader’s Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra was the continuation of the Congress party’s perpetual agenda of divisive politics and spreading hatred. Much like the Bharat Jodo Yatra, its sequel had no shortage of attempts to deepen the faultlines of Indian society, even by using deliberate lies and misinformation.

The series of blunders began with the promotional video of Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra as Congress used the audio clips of BJP’s firebrand leader Smriti Irani reciting former PM Atal Bihari’s poem “Hum jiyenge toh Bharat ke liye, marenge toh Bharat ke liye” in its promo. The embarrassment was made worse since Smriti Irani is the one who defeated Rahul Gandhi in his ‘home bastion’ Amethi. Smriti Irani not only defeated Rahul Gandhi but also snatched away the Gandhi stronghold. Rahul Gandhii’s fear of losing against Irani was such that the Congress’s prime minister aspirant is reported to be unwilling to contest from Amethi, after running away to Wayanad in 2019.

Lying about Ram Mandir Pran Pratishtha ceremony, dismissing it as ‘BJP’s event, to mocking Aishwarya Rai: The fall and the fall of Rahul Gandhi

Years after submitting an affidavit in the Supreme Court denying the existence of Lord Ram, the Congress party as the political scenario changed claimed to be devotees of Lord Ram. The party even accused the BJP of ‘using’ Lord Ram for its political gains. However, beyond the pretence, the actions of Congress and its leaders have time and again proven that the party has no respect or reverence for Bhagwan Ram. Despite the invitation, Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge did not attend the Ram Mandir Pran Pratishtha ceremony held on the 22nd of January this year.

While the nation rejoiced in the ultimate victory in the 500 years of resistance and reclamation, on the 23rd of January, Rahul Gandhi demonstrating his lack of understanding of the sentiments of Hindus dismissed that there is any such phenomenon as Ram leher (wave). “There is no such thing that there is a wave (leher). I have already said that this was a political program of the BJP,” Rahul Gandhi said.

The frustration over the Ram Mandir Pran Pratistha perhaps made Gandhi resort to peddling lies about the consecration ceremony and playing the communist-style ‘ameer vs gareeb’ game merely to attack PM Modi. While addressing the crowd during Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra in Chhattisgarh’s Korba, Rahul Gandhi said, “During Ram Temple’s inauguration, I saw Amitabh Bachchan, Aishwarya Rai, Adani, Ambani, and all businessmen attending the event but I didn’t notice any poor, farmer, labourer, unemployed, or ‘chai wala’ among them.”

Contrary to Gandhi’s claim, the event was attended by people from all walks of life. In addition to dignitaries and celebrities, the family members of several karsevaks, sadhus, labourers, sanitisation workers etc were also invited. Rahul Gandhi’s disdain for slogans like Jai Shri Ram was seen when he charged towards a crowd in Assam during the yatra as they raised Jai Shri Ram and pro-BJP slogans. Apparently, the owner-operator of ‘Mohabbat Ki Dukaan’ harbours ‘nafrat’ for the Ram Bhakts saying, Jai Shri Ram.

During the course of his controversial Yatra, Rahul Gandhi exposed his disturbing “objectification” of women as he repeatedly targeted film star Aishwarya Rai Bachchan saying “Aishwarya Rai nachti hui dikhegi” and “Aishwarya ko nachte hue dikhana” etc. It is worth noting that Aishwarya Rai Bachchan was not even present in the Ram Mandir consecration event. The audacity of the Gandhi scion to target and objectify Aishwarya Rai is alarming. Aishwarya Rai was crowned Miss World in 1994 when Rahul Gandhi was nothing more than former PM Rajiv Gandhi’s son. It is shameful that Rahul Gandhi’s sister Priyanka Gandhi Vadra who once led a woman-centric “Ladki Hoon Lad Sakti Hoon” campaign, maintained a deafening silence on her brother’s opprobrious remarks on Aishwarya Rai Bachchan.

During the Bharat ‘Jodo’ Nyay Yatra, Rahul Gandhi worked on the sole agenda of Bharat ‘Todo’ instead. Conspicuously, Rahul Gandhi’s obsession with people’s caste and his attempts to further the divide in society and gain some votes will be remembered as the standout in the second season of the Yatra. Be it Rahul Gandhi lying that President Droupadi Murmu was not invited to the Ram Mandir Pran Pratishtha ceremony because she is an “Adivasi” to calling Prime Minister Narendra Modi a “Fake OBC” Rahul Gandhi has left no stone unturned to re-mainstream casteism in electoral politics.

While Rahul Gandhi had claimed that President Murmu was not invited to the ceremony in Ayodhya, a delegation of Ram Mandir construction chairperson, VHP and RSS leaders had formally invited her. Although, Madam President said that she would visit the temple at a later date, she penned a heart-warming letter to PM Modi which she to Rahul Gandhi’s disappointment had concluded with the slogan “Siyavar Ramchandra Ki Jai!”

Even personal attacks on Prime Minister Narendra Modi have always boomeranged on opposition parties, Rahul Gandhi during the Yatra attacked PM Modi over his caste calling him ‘Fake OBC’. He claimed that PM Modi lied about his OBC caste saying that he is not an OBC by birth and later included his caste in the OBC list. However, as we factchecked Rahul Gandhi’s claim, it turned out that the Gandhi scion was telling a lie since it was his own party’s government in Gujarat and Centre when Modi’s Modh Ghanchi caste was notified in the OBC list in 1994, many years before Modi became Gujarat’s Chief Minister.

“Kaun Jaat Ho?”: When Rahul Gandhi channelised the Ravish Kumar in him to play caste-based divisive politics

In another instance of inciting people on caste lines, Rahul Gandhi during the UP leg of the Yatra claimed that the Central government is hostile to OBCs and Dalits. He also got a journalist almost lynched. “The Ram Mandir is only visited by the likes of PM Modi, Ambani, and Adani. You will see all our billionaires there but not a single person from a backward class or the Dalit community,” Gandhi said.

During the speech, Rahul Gandhi addressed a journalist in public and asked for his name. “Are you from the media? What is your name? What is the name of the owner of your organisation?” Rahul Gandhi asked the journalist. “Is he an OBC? Is your owner a Dalit? No, he is not.” Rahul Gandhi continued as the crowd around the journalist got hostile. He then stopped the Congress workers saying, “No. Don’t beat him up”. The leitmotif of Rahul Gandhi’s OBC, Dalit, and Adivasi rant is that one is honest, worthy of respect and importance only if they belong to these three caste groups as if being a so-called “upper caste” is a crime in this country.

Rahul Gandhi and the Congress party’s scorn for Uttar Pradesh and its people was seen in February this year when he referred to the state’s young as ‘nashedi’. “I went to Varanasi and I saw people lying on roads drunk. The youths of Uttar Pradesh are on a trip after consuming liquor by night. On the other hand, there is the Ram Mandir which is only visited by the likes of PM Modi, Ambani and Adani. You will see all our billionaires there but not a single person from a backward class or the Dalit community,” Rahul said during the Yatra in Amethi.

Rahul Gandhi’s resentment towards Uttar Pradesh is understandable given that the party has been reduced to two seats in the state. In recent elections, the voters have overwhelmingly rejected the Congress party.

Rahul Gandhi, on a rare occasion of targeting the Modi government on development and infrastructure issues unlike the usual caste jibes claimed that the world-famous pineapples of Meghalaya are not reaching the global markets due to “lack of infrastructure”. However, Gandhi ignored the fact that India has been exporting pineapples from Meghalaya to various places in the Gulf. The state government in August 2023 stated that the pineapples from the state have been gaining more and more popularity within and outside the country. Malls across Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Sharjah, and Kuwait have been selling these pineapples.

Rahul Gandhi attacks Adani, his party’s CM in Telangana signs MoUs with Adani conglomerate

Rahul Gandhi’s fixation with business behemoths Gautam Adani and Mukesh Ambani has peaked in recent years. The Gandhi scion has been at the forefront of slandering the businessman and accuses PM Modi of crony capitalism, by favouring Adani and his companies. The Congress party even coined terms like ‘Modani’ in their desperation to implicate Adani as a partner in crime with PM Modi. This desperation, however, brought nothing but embarrassment to Rahul Gandhi and his party during the Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra gimmick.

The Congress party’s prince in a bid to establish a narrative that somehow Gautam Adani and Mukesh Ambani are controlling the institutions in the country including the Media. Last month, while addressing a crowd in Varanasi during the Yatra, Rahul Gandhi said, “‘Look here, this media people from ANI and all other TV, look at them. PTI, ANI, India Today, Network 10, Network 12, Network 14, tell who owns them? These belong to Adani ji, and Ambani ji. They are never going to show about farmers, labourers, poor. They can’t do it, because their owners have ordered them that they can’t show about the poor of India. They can show only Narendra Modi 24 hours, not the poor.’ This came even though the media undertook extensive coverage of the farmers’ protest. Probably, Rahul Gandhi believes in the childish argument “If you’re not on my side, you’re my enemy.”

Interestingly, while not a day goes by without Rahul Gandhi attacking Adani and PM Modi over their alleged ‘crony capitalism’, his own party’s leader and Chief Minister of Telangana Revanth Reddy on 17th January signed four Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) worth Rs 12,400 crore with the Adani group at the sideline of the World Economic Forum (WEF) 2024 in Davos, Switzerland. Reddy’s move left even the loudmouth Supriya Srinate with no answer when the media questioned CM Reddy’s move, not being in line with the party’s anti-Adani stand.

Adivasis pay GST, Adani-Ambani don’t: Rahul Gandhi ceases to apply brain while attacking the business tycoons

Adding another incidence of embarrassment to the never-ending list, Rahul Gandhi while attacking Adani-Ambani and the Modi government over GST exposed his ignorance about GST and how it works. Gandhi harangued against the GST at a public meeting in Jharkhand in February during the yatra, stating that only the poor pay it, while the rich and privileged never do.  He also demonised India’s industrial class, portraying them as dishonest and thieves. The Gandhi scion assailed Adani and Ambanis, claiming that they do not pay GST whereas industrious adivasis and tribals who haul 200 kgs of coal for a life do. A detailed OpIndia report on Rahul Gandhi’s comments on GST, and how GST works can be read here.

Embarrassment chases the Congress party’s ultracrepidarian. During his Yatra in Madhya Pradesh, Congress scion Rahul Gandhi equated the Minimum Support Price (MSP) declared on crops with the Maximum Retail Price (MRP) set on commodities like FMCG products.

In a desperate attempt to gain mileage from the farmers’ protest, Rahul Gandhi had claimed that the Modi government is unwilling to legalise MSP as ‘recommended’ by the Swaminathan Committee. However, contrary to Rahul Gandhi’s lies, the Swaminathan Committee report did not advocate for legalising MSP rather recommended that the MSP be at least 50% higher than the weighted average cost of production. This was referred to as the C2+50% formula, which included the capital input cost and land rent to provide farmers with 50% of the returns.

Ironically, although seeing the defeat in the coming Lok Sabha elections nearly inevitable, Rahul Gandhi promised to bring MSP law, it was his own party’s government led by then PM Manmohan Singh that rejected the Swaminathan Commission’s C2+50 per cent formula recommendation citing “counter-productivity”.

In a classic case of “The less you know, the more you think you know”, Rahul Gandhi shared his ‘wisdom’ on the challenges posed by Generative AI while interacting with some IT professionals during the yatra last month. Despite lack of sufficient knowledge on the subject, Rahul Gandhi tried hard to appear like an expert on AI. However, ended up getting trolled on social media for his ‘network’ gobbledegook and an unrelated ‘story’ of Saddam Hussain ‘obliterating’ the United States in Iraq. To no surprise he even brought caste into the context, of course, without making any sense.

Rahul Gandhi walked on even as I.N.D.I. Alliance continued to fall apart

It makes one wonder what exactly was the purpose of Rahul Gandhi’s Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra. Was it to understand the issues of the people of Bharat? Was it to bring people together? Was it to increase the voter base? Or was it just a burlesque drama of the lifetime PM aspirant and Congress prince going out and connecting with the ‘Praja’. While Rahul Gandhi may have managed to make a few laughs, his foot march did not essentially yield any significant results in terms of political gains.

While Rahul Gandhi continued his foot march, which he paused for a paid event in the United Kingdom, the I.N.D.I. Alliance has only been shrinking while the NDA despite its already strong standing is expanding rapidly. The internal rift among the opposition parties has been out in the open. The same was seen during the Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra in January this year when West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee refused to attend the Yatra saying she was not informed. The TMC government even denied permission to undertake the Yatra in Siliguri.  In another display of opposition unity, the Congress party did not care to invite its ally and Samajwadi Party supremo Akhilesh Yadav to the yatra during its UP leg.

Interestingly, although the Congress party likes to play the ‘big brother’ in the I.N.D.I. Alliance, its own prince does not even believe in treating his own party workers with respect and dignity. A disturbing example of this was seen during the BJ Nyay Yatra in Jharkhand when Rahul Gandhi offered biscuits, rejected by a dog, to a party worker.

It was another such incident back 2016 that made Himanta Biswa Sarma quit the Congress party and join the BJP. In Himanta, Congress lost a bright, firebrand leader who could have taken the party to new heights in Assam. However, he quit Congress, joined BJP ensuring back to back victories for the party in the state. Now, Himanta is only second to Smriti Irani in aggressively taking on Rahul Gandhi.

Interestingly, despite the tall claims made in the initial days, I.N.D.I. Alliance has out and out been a flop show. While the BJP is aiming for a goal of winning 370 seats on its own and “Abki Baar 400 Paar” for NDA, the opposition bloc is shrinking at an alarming rate.

Former I.N.D.I. Alliance partners Rashtriya Lok Dal, and Janata Dal United have drifted away from Congress and joined hands with the BJP-led NDA. Even former Congress ally Janata Dal Secular has allied with the BJP. Moreover, the Communist Party of India (CPI) has also announced to go solo in Assam. Meanwhile, Trinamool Congress will also be going solo in West Bengal.

Forget ‘Bharat Jodo’ Rahul Gandhi failed to stop the disintegration of his own alliance.

While Rahul Gandhi dreams of becoming prime minister of a Hindu-majority Bharat, his actions suggest that the leader despises Hindu Dharma. During the Bharat Jodo Yatra in 2022, Rahul Gandhi met Rijil Mukkutty the Indian Youth Congress (IYC) leader, who slaughtered a cow in broad daylight in 2017 to mock Hindu sentiments. Moreover, during the Yatra he was also seen mollycoddling with anti-Hindu elements like pastor Geroge Poonaiah who said  Jesus is the ‘real God’, unlike ‘Sakthi & other Hindu gods. He (Jesus Christ) is a real God, revealed as a human person. Not like Sakthi and all,” Poonaiah had said as the self-proclaimed Janeudhari Dattatreya gotri Brahmin Rahul Gandhi looked on.

In the phase one, a pastor made disparaging remarks about Maa Shakti and Rahul Gandhi raised no objection, this time on the last day of the Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra, Rahul Gandhi himself exposed his Hindu hate as he resorted to distorting Hinduism, since Hindu-hate is the Sine Qua Non of the Congress party’s proclivities. “There is a word ‘Shakti’ in Hinduism. We are fighting against a Shakti. The question is, what is that Shakti? The soul of the King is in the EVM. This true. The soul of the King in the EVM and every institution of the country, in ED, CBI and Income Tax department. A senior leader from Maharashtra left Congress and cried in front of my mother and said ‘Sonia ji, I am ashamed that I don’t have the power to fight this Shakti. I do not want to go to jail.’ Thousands of people have been threatened like this,” Rahul Gandhi said in a shocking distortion of the meaning and value of the concept of Shakti.

Only a Mahishasur could think of fighting the Shakti, the powerful feminine deity in Hindu Dharma. In conclusion, Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra was a mere continuation of the furtherance of caste-based divisive politics, causing chaos by lying/misleading, inviting embarrassment and fuelling hatred against Hindus in addition to the usual Adani-Ambani rant while the I.N.D.I. Alliance broke apart. Rahul Gandhi will be remembered in history as a political leader who traversed the length and breadth of the country right before the elections and yet failed to grasp the essence of Bharat and what the people of this country truly want.
