‘Anti-Muslim, discriminatory, exclusionary’: International media peddles false narrative against CAA to incite Indian Muslims

“India implements citizenship amendment law excluding Muslims”, this, with some changes here and there, has been the headline of several international media houses. These media organisations are notorious for peddling anti-India narratives and painting the Muslim community as the victims during their reportage on the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA). Ever since the Modi government notified CAA on 11th of March 2024, a section of local and international media has resorted to labeling the much-needed law as “discriminatory” since it ‘excludes Muslims’.

Qatar-owned propaganda news outlet Al Jazeera has suffered a serious meltdown since the CAA notification was issued. The propaganda factory deemed the CAA as ‘Anti-Muslim’ even though the law does not even mention Muslims, Indian or not. “India implements ‘anti-Muslim’ 2019 citizenship law weeks before election”, the headline of the Al Jazeera report reads.

Al Jazeera headline

However, the Press Information Bureau has fact-checked Aj Jazeera for its “misleading” report on CAA and stated on X, “Misinformation is being spread by @AJEnglish regarding the Citizenship Amendment Act, calling the act ‘anti-Muslim’. The claim is misleading. CAA will not take away the citizenship of any Indian citizen irrespective of religion. It’s not against any single religion/ community. It’s an enabling law only to provide citizenship to persecuted minorities from neighbouring countries – Afghanistan, Pakistan & Bangladesh,” PIB stated.

BBC follows suit, peddles the ‘CAA is anti-Muslim’ narrative

The headline of a report on CAA by the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) which achieved notoriety for its anti-India propaganda and bias read, “India to enforce migrant law that excludes Muslims.”

Another British media outlet The Guardian reported, “India enacts citizenship law criticised as ‘discriminatory’ to Muslims”

An SBS Australia report headline stated, “India moves to implement contentious ‘anti-Muslim’ citizenship law.”

Meanwhile, Voice of America’s headline stated, “India Announces Steps to Implement Citizenship Law That Excludes Muslims.”

Credit where due, no one can compete against liberal and Islamist sympathising media outlets in their meticulous efforts to push an apocryphal narrative. The headlines of BBC, Al Jazeera, VOA, and SBS Australia etc discussed above show how even a humanitarian gesture and praiseworthy move can also be used as a weapon against a government, falsely paint a religious community as victims and instigate them.

The blatant labelling of CAA as ‘anti-Muslim’, ‘discriminatory’ and whatnot insinuates that the most important aspect of the Act is not that it will allow citizenship in India to persecuted Hindu, Sikh, Jain, Parsi, Buddhist, and Christian communities but that it ‘excludes Muslims’. These media reports contribute to the fear-mongering among Indian Muslims, deeming the Modi government as somehow anti-Muslim and even inciting protests and violence.

CAA is for persecuted minorities in neighbouring Muslim countries, Muslims are not persecuted minorities where Islam is state religion

The repeated usage of “excludes Muslims” in the mainstream media reports on CAA warrants delving into why Muslims have not been included in the Citizenship Act. On 11th March, the Union Ministry of Home Affairs notified the rules under the Citizenship (Amendment) Act, 2019 (CAA-2019). These rules, called the Citizenship (Amendment) Rules, 2024 will enable the persons eligible under CAA-2019 to apply for a grant of Indian citizenship.

Under the CAA, people belonging to persecuted minority groups in Pakistan, Bangladesh, and Afghanistan—including Christians, Parsis, Sikhs, Jains, Buddhists, Hindus, and Sikhs—who came to India on or before December 31, 2014, will be granted Indian citizenship. Now the question is why the persecuted sections of Muslims including the Shias and Ahmadiyas are not considered eligible for citizenship in India. For this, the CAA notification needs to be read carefully. The CAA enables minorities persecuted on religious grounds in Pakistan, Bangladesh and Afghanistan to acquire citizenship in India.

Notably, although Shias and Ahmadiyas maybe subjected to discrimination, attacks and adversities of other sorts, they identify as Muslims. They are still the part of Muslim majority of the theocratic Islamic nations like Pakistan and Afghanistan. There is a difference between sectarian violence and religion-based violence. The problems that Shias and Ahmadiyas face in the Islamic nation of Pakistan are law and order problems for Pakistan to deal with.

CAA doesn’t affect or negate existing rules for anyone to come to India legally, including Muslims

Moreover, the CAA is for refugees already living in India, not for any current or future groups who may face persecution due to political and ethnic reasons in neighbouring countries. Even then, the CAA doesn’t affect, or negate any existing rules for foreigners to come to India legally, or seek shelter in India. Muslims from the neighbouring, or any country, can still come to India legally.

It is amusing that people who often boast of having a Ummah of 50+ Islamic countries want their ‘persecuted’ people to be inducted as citizens in India, a Hindu-majority country. Moreover, it anyways does not make sense, because the partition of India in 1947 was on the basis of religion. Muslims wanted a separate country and they got it. Pakistan had promised Indian leaders that minorities would be treated well, but it never kept that promise. Over the years, the population of minorities in both Pakistan and Bangladesh and in Afghanistan, has dwindled due to the relentless harassment of non-Muslims in these Islamic nations.

While India does not back or appreciate persecution of any community on religious or sectarian grounds, it must not be forgotten that the community was at the forefront of the creation of Pakistan. A detailed OpIndia report on the role of Ahamadiyas in Pakistan’s creation can be read here.

Why the arguments against CAA citing Article 14 of the Indian constitution are stupid

It is pertinent to note that those opposed to CAA argue that the Act violates Article 14 of the Indian constitution which guarantees the “right to equality”. Notably, Article 14 assures all persons the right to equality before the law and equal protection of the laws on Indian territory. This assurance does not imply or intend absolute mathematical equality and enables the state to make appropriate classifications. The state can enact special laws for specific groups. The only criterion is that this categorization and the object it represents have a reasonable connection. The CAA aims to safeguard those persecuted on religious grounds in our three surrounding nations.

Moreover, the Indian constitution defines the rights of Indian citizens, not refugees from other countries. Granting citizenship to refugees is entirely the government’s decision to make.

Notably, Union Home Minister Amit Shah was back in 2019 asked about why the Rohingyas, who are largely Muslims not included in CAA. The minister back then had said, “Rohingyas don’t come to India directly. They go to Bangladesh and then illegally infiltrate into India from there.”

It is worth noting that India is not a party to either the 1951 Refugee Convention or the 1967 Protocol. As a result, no international conventions are binding on India. Even if we consider international standards, the Rohingyas are circumventing a safe haven in Bangladesh to reach India in search of material benefits, they are economic refugees in India, who have entered illegally. Thus, it is apparent that when they reach India, they are economic migrants rather than persecuted/oppressed minorities.

Notably, according to a 2017 MHA estimate over 40,000 illegal Rohingya immigrants are staying in India. While there have been Shaheen Bagh-like anti-CAA protests in the past planned, promoted and internationalised by usual players in the name of ‘saving the constitution’ and whatnot, the Act has nothing even remotely to do with Indian Muslims.

Byju’s vacates all offices except Bengaluru Headquarters, mandates employees to work from home

0

Financially strained ed-tech startup Byju’s has vacated all its office spaces and mandated all its employees to ‘work from home’. As per reports, the company, however, has retained its headquarters at IBC Knowledge Park in Bengaluru, where around 1,000 employees will continue to work from the office.

Additionally, around 300 of Byju’s tuition centres are physical spaces. Students of classes 6-10 study at these centres and they will continue functioning from these spaces, the report added. The development was first reported by CapTable.

According to reports, the process of vacating offices has been ongoing for several months as the ed-tech startup didn’t renew several of its contracts with offices in various locations to cut down on its operational costs.

The development is seen in line with the restructuring plan of Byju’s India CEO Arjun Mohan. Byju’s, which was once valued at more than $20 billion, has lost around an estimated 90% of its valuation over the past year.

Further, the company has been embroiled in legal disputes with its creditors over a $1.2 billion loan and is facing a liquidity crisis. This legal tussle with its investors pertains to the legitimacy of funds that were raised from a recently completed rights issue offering.

The current development is also part of this restructuring strategy to save cash as proceeds from the rights issue (around $250-$300 million) remain stuck.

In previous years, Byju’s laid off thousands of its employees and recently it defaulted in paying the full salaries of its employees for February. The report regarding Byju’s decision came a day after it partially disbursed pending salaries for over 20,000 employees for February.

It has also pledged to disburse the remaining salaries once it is allowed to utilise the funds from the recently concluded rights issue. The company stated in the letter that these salaries are anticipated to be credited to employee accounts by 11th March.

In a letter to the staff, Raveendran acknowledged that the firm is struggling financially and alleged that the company couldn’t process employees’ salaries for February because the investors blocked its funding.

The crisis between Byju’s founder and major stakeholders

Last month, major stakeholders of the company voted to remove Byju Raveendran from his position as chief executive officer (CEO) and stripped him of his authority. The decision was taken in an extraordinary general meeting which was, however, not attended by Ravindran and its family members.

Byju Raveendran contested his ouster. He claimed that the resolution was passed during an extraordinary general meeting attended only by a “small cohort of select shareholders.” Additionally, in a statement, the company said, “Byju’s firmly declares that the resolutions passed during the recently concluded extraordinary general meeting… are invalid and ineffective.”

The founder and former CEO, Byju Raveendran, has lost support from major investors following a series of crisis. This includes Deloitte’s resignation over corporate governance concerns and a legal dispute with lenders in the United States.

CAA Rules: ‘Journalist’ objects to 5:1 ratio for members from Centre and State for Empowered Committee, forgets citizenship falls under Union List

On 11th March, the Government of India notified the rules for the Citizen Amendment Act. Hours later, “journalist” Arvind Gunasekar, who is a JNU alumnus, targeted the central government’s over-representation of the state in the “Empowered Committee”. Claiming the rule for the committee was against “federalism” he wrote, “Look at the composition of State / UT level ‘Empowered Committee’ which will scrutinise the applications and grant Citizenship under CAA, 2019. Lopsided, five representatives of the Centre Govt. Just one representative of the State Govt. Long live federalism!!” Interestingly, Gunasekar forgot that the constitution of India gives the Central Government power to give citizenship, not the state.

According to the order issued by the Ministry of Home Affairs regarding the CAA Rules, there will be an Empowered Committee in every state and union territory headed by the Director (Census Operations) of the concerned state or UT. The committee will have an officer in the Subsidiary Intelligence Bureau with the minimum rank of Deputy Secretary to the Government of India, jurisdictional Foreigners Regional Registration Officer, State Informatics Officer of national Informatics Centre of the State or UT, Post Master General of the State or UT or a Postal Officer nominated by the Post Master General, a representative from the office of Principal Secretary (Home) of Additional Chief Secretary (Home) of the state or UT and representative of jurisdictional Divisional Railway Manager of Railways. Out of these six members, only one is from the state or UT government and the rest are from the Central Government.

The power to give citizenship is with the Central Government

The Seventh Schedule of the Constitution of India deals with the division of powers between the Union government and State governments. It says that the Citizenship, Naturalisation and Aliens fall under the Union List. That means, only the Central Government has the power to give citizenship to any person seeking refuge in the country. This is the reason CAA was notified by the Home Ministry of the Government of India and the applicants can apply using a dedicated portal for applying for citizenship under the Union Home Ministry.

Arvind Gunasekar, who claims to be a journalist, failed to do the courtesy check and find out who has the power to grant citizenship before spreading misleading information about CAA Rules. The aim, however, is to spread disinformation about the CAA and cast aspersions on the intentions of the Central Government over the new law that seeks to fast track citizenship application for persecuted minorities from Pakistan, Bangladesh, and Afghanistan.

Gangster Kala Jathedi’s wedding with ‘lady don’ Anuradha today: Heavy police force, including SWAT personnel deployed for ‘security’

The marriage ceremony of gangster Sandeep alias Kala Jathedi and Rajasthan’s ‘lady don’ Anuradha Choudhary aka Madam Minz is scheduled for Tuesday (12th March) from 10 am to 4 pm at Matiala, Dwarka. Kala Jathedi who is on detention parole for his wedding arrived at the venue in Dwarka amid heavy police security. As per the reports, the Delhi Police has devised a tactical plan to prevent gang conflicts or Sandeep’s escape from custody.

The baraatis at this unusual wedding include handpicked policemen from Delhi Police’s special cell and crime division, as well as a few SWAT personnel and cops from Dwarka police stations. Officers have already conducted a recce of the location twice and have had detailed interviews with the banquet owner and staff.

“A list of family members has been sought and CCTV cameras are being checked and new ones installed in the vicinity to capture any suspicious movement,” a senior police officer said.

According to the reports, the wedding would be monitored by police from three states – Delhi, Rajasthan, and Haryana – as well as the National Investigation Agency, which has charged Jathedi and Lawrence Bishnoi in the terror-gangster nexus case.

The couple have been together in a relationship since 2020. Jathedi is accused of organizing a criminal conspiracy to incite terror and commit targeted murders of high-profile individuals. Authorities are fearful that not just Jathedi and Bishnoi’s associates, but also possible troublemakers or rivals, may enter the event and pose a threat to Jathedi. There are also speculations of clashes or violence in the Jathedi village, Sonipat, where the gangster is anticipated to be taken under strict protection the following day.

Jathedi’s elderly parents live in the village with Anuradha, who has made it clear to law enforcement and the court that she has no intention of engaging in illegal activity.

She has spent the last few months living with Jathedi’s parents and caring for them. According to the reports, Jathedi proposed marriage to her after her efforts to care for his parents. Responding to Jathedi’s lawyer’s plea that marriage is a fundamental right protected by Article 21 of the Indian Constitution, a court granted him a six-hour custody parole on 12th March for getting married.

The lawyer said that denying Jathedi the liberty to marry would be a breach of his constitutional rights. The ruling, given by Additional Sessions Judge Deepak Wason, allowed release from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on 12th March, with Delhi Police instructed to protect throughout this time. Furthermore, the order stipulates that Sandeep will be accompanied to his village on 13th March for the ‘Grih Pravesh’ ritual, which is planned from 10 am to 1 pm.

Sandeep aka Kala Jathedi was arrested in 2021 and carried a Rs 7 lakh reward. The Delhi Police’s special cell apprehended him at Saharanpur, Uttar Pradesh, almost 200 kilometers from the national capital. According to authorities, Sandeep was wanted for extortion, murder, and other major offenses in Delhi, Rajasthan, Punjab, and Haryana. Furthermore, the Delhi Police collaborated with the Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA) to resolve the Jatheri case.

Anuradha aka Madam Minz, the gangster, who has multiple degrees including an MBA, on the other hand, has been accused of involvement in several cases of murder, extortion, and kidnapping in Rajasthan.

“Cropping system unviable, free electricity incentivising farmers to over-exploit groundwater resources,” Punjab economic survey states. Details

The cropping system of Punjab is becoming economically and ecologically unviable, the economic survey (2023-24) of the Punjab government has stated.

The survey was tabled in the state assembly last week. It noted that free-electricity supply may have incentivised farmers in the state to “over-exploit” groundwater resources.

It stated that the cropping pattern of growing water-intensive rice and wheat along with free electricity supplied to farmers has resulted in the depletion of groundwater levels.

The survey said, “Yields are stagnating in wheat and rice and it is another reason for crop diversification to be the way forward,” adding that the yield of cereals, pulses and oilseeds in Punjab has been higher than the national average.

“This cropping system of Punjab is becoming economically and ecologically unviable given the deterioration of soil health, depletion of the water table and squeezing of farm incomes as cost of cultivation increases,” it noted.

It stated that oilseeds and pulses with an adequate demand deficit in the country could offer one avenue for crop diversification.

The survey also pitched for crop diversification to oilseeds and pulses.’

It stated that oilseeds and pulses with an adequate demand deficit in the country could offer one avenue for crop diversification.

This comes in the backdrop of the Centre assuring the protesting farmers across the country that it will procure maize, cotton and pulses varieties at the minimum support price (MSP) for the next five years.

The offer, as per reports citing sources, is subject to the condition that farmers diversify from water-intensive paddy cultivation.

The same provision was earlier announced fpr farmers from Haryana and Punjab but they had refused it.

As per the survey, the total crop area is held by food grain production in Punjab and is mainly occupied by wheat and paddy crops due to assured economic return as MSP provided to farmers on the two crops.

As per the state budget, out of total allocation of Rs 13,660 crore for agri and allied activities for 2024-25, Rs 9330 crore has been earmarked for free power (subsidy) for the farmers in Punjab.

As per data, in 2021-22, Punjab produced nearly 14% of India’s wheat output of 107.7 million tonne with less than 12% share of the total area under its cultivation at the total level.

The state also contributed almost 10% of the total rice production of 129.4 MT with only 6.4% of the total area under rice cultivation in the country.

As for the issue of excess use of power, the Punjab government has reportedly launched a pilot direct benefit transfer scheme for six agriculture feeder areas where the participant farmer gets a fixed allocation of power consumption.

It has stated if the farmer consumes less than the fixed allocation, he/she receives a financial benefit for electricity not consumed.

Moreover, Punjab has reportedly faced uneven growth in agriculture in recent years, particularly in crop cultivation.

The gross state value added (GSVA) growth of agriculture and related sectors from 2021-22 to 2023-24 is projected at 1.0%, 2.7% and 2.4% respectively as compared to 2.1% average growth recorded between 2012-13 and 2020-21.

A slowdown has also been observed in crop husbandry section where GSVA was in the negative.

ED attaches 10 crores of TMC in money laundering probe against ex-MP KD Singh, says money was used for campaigning during 2014 LS elections

0

The Enforcement Directorate on Monday (11th March) provisionally attached Rs 10.29 crore from the Trinamool Congress (TMC) as a demand draft tendered during the probe into a suspected money laundering scam involving ex-TMC MP Kanwar Deep Singh and his company Alchemist Group and a few others. Singh was elected to Rajya Sabha in April 2014 on a Trinamool Congress ticket.

The ED investigation found that Alchemist Group utilized some of the money received by defrauding the public to make payments to aviation firms on behalf of the Trinamool Congress Party.

“The ED investigation has revealed that an amount of Rs 10.29 crore was paid by Alchemist Airways Pvt Ltd to various aviation/helicopter companies for the aviation services availed by All India Trinamool Congress during the campaigning for 2014 Lok Sabha elections for its star campaigners such as West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, former Union Railway Minister Mukul Roy, Munmun Sen, MP Nusrat Jahan, and others,” an ED spokesperson said on Monday.

The ED launched an investigation into the Alchemist Group’s affairs in 2016 based on FIRs filed by Kolkata Police against Singh, his son Karandeep Singh, M/s Alchemist Township India Limited, M/s Alchemist Holdings Limited, and various other group companies and their directors for allegedly defrauding thousands of customers and investors.

In January 2021, ED had arrested the former TMC MP Kanwar Deep Singh, also a promoter of the beleaguered Tehelka magazine, in connection with the money laundering case. A criminal case was filed against him under the PMLA, based on a charge sheet lodged against the company, its directors and others by the market watchdog SEBI.

The ED stated in a January 2019 statement that money obtained from Alchemist Infra Realty Ltd’s criminal activity was routed through a web of shell companies.

The investigation additionally discovered that the money that the corporations had raised from different investors was never put to use for the intended purpose and instead ended up in the bank accounts of other businesses that were essentially shell companies. The ED stated that the money that was syphoned off was thereafter utilised to purchase real estate in different parts of India.

“The ED investigation revealed that M/s Alchemist Group collected funds amounting to more than Rs 1,800 crore from victims in its companies namely, M/s Alchemist Holdings Limited and M/s Alchemist Township India Limited on false promises of providing high returns and giving flats or villas high rate of interest on the investments to the victims. However, the investors were never given their money and the funds were siphoned off to various group companies of the Alchemist Group,” the ED spokesperson said.

In September 2019, the Enforcement Directorate carried out searches at the premises linked to KD Singh in New Delhi and Chandigarh. The searches were in connection with the companies related to and controlled by the former MP.

Ex-TMC MP KD Singh’s connection with beleaguered Tehelka magazine

It is noteworthy to mention that KD Singh was also associated with Tehelka magazine, whose editor-in-chief Tarun Tejpal is mired in a sexual assault case. The case had come to fore in 2013 when one of the staffers of the organisations had levelled allegations of rape against Tejpal.

A year after the sexual assault allegations were levelled against Tarun Tejpal, KD Singh, in an interview with the Quartz in December 2014 said that he owned 70-80 per cent of the shares and reposed his faith in the magazine, stating that the firm can make a comeback and do the stories that it was known to pursue.

CAA: Protest erupts in Jamia Millia Islamia University with NSU(I) and MSF taking the lead, VC says won’t allow agitation

On 11th March, hours after the Government of India notified the rules for the Citizenship (Amendment) Act (CAA), a protest erupted at the Jamia Millia Islamia campus in Delhi. Muslim Students Federation (MSF) and Congress-affiliated National Students’ Union of India (NSUI) led the student protests at the campus. Notably, Jamia was at the centre of protests in 2019 when the Act was passed by the Parliament.

Vice Chancellor (VC) of the university said in a statement that no agitation would be allowed on the campus. Delhi Police deployed a large number of personnel to ensure law and order on the campus.

VC says Jamia won’t allow any protests on the campus

Jamia’s acting VC Eqbal Hussain said in a statement that the university administration has tightened the security arrangement at the campus. He added that the administration would not allow any protests near or on the campus. Speaking to news agency PTI, he said, “We have tightened security arrangements to avoid any kind of agitation on the campus. No protest against the CAA will be allowed by students or outsiders near the campus.”

MSF and NSUI protested against CAA Rules

Muslim Student Federation (MSF) shared videos and photographs of the protest on their social media accounts. On Instagram, the group wrote, “MSF Jamia Millia Islamia strongly condemn the fascist government’s move to implement the divisive and Islamophobic act of CAA. Along with the Fraternity movement Jamia Millia Islamia, MSF organised a protest gathering at the central canteen area.”

In a statement, NSUI said, “NSUI Jamia Millia Islamia protests against the decision of the Central government to implement the unconstitutional CAA.”

NSUI President Varun Choudhary called CAA a “farce” on X (formerly Twitter) and claimed that the rules were notified to divert the public from “real issues”. They did not clarify why are they protesting if it is a farce and why are they diverting from so-called “real issues” themselves.

NSUI was behind protests in December 2019

Notably, NSUI Jamia was one of the organisations that started the protests at the university campus in 2019 when the law was passed. Buses were set on fire and both public and private properties were damaged. The police had to enter the campus to find the culprits.

During that time, OpIndia’s investigation revealed that a WhatsApp group was used to mobilize protesters. The group was being operated by NSUI’s National RTI Cell Coordinator Reetam Singh and other members affiliated with Congress. When OpIndia tried to confirm the affiliation of the protest group to NSUI, Reetam Singh replied to our query and confirmed he was an NSUI functionary.

PFI’s role in Jamia’s protests

During the investigation into the violent protests at Jamia, Delhi Police revealed that the now-banned organisation Popular Front of India’s (PFI) around 150 members had entered Delhi and hid in the Jamia area for two days before the protests took place.

CAA rules notified by the Government of India

On 11th March, the Government led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi notified the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA). This Act was crucial to the Bharatiya Janata Party’s agenda during the 2019 Lok Sabha elections. The issuance of these rules is expected to create a pathway for persecuted minorities from the 3 neighboring Muslim nations of Afghanistan, Bangladesh, and Pakistan to obtain citizenship in India.

Manohar Lal Khattar and his Cabinet resigns, speculations are rife that he may be fielded as a candidate in upcoming Lok Sabha elections

0

Ahead of the Lok Sabha elections, Manohar Lal Khattar has tendered his resignation as Haryana Chief Minister today (March 12) after he met with Governor Bandaru Dattatreya. The Khattar-Cabinet has given a collective resignation to the governor.

According to reports, Nayab Saini or Sanjay Bhatia may replace him. Preparations have been made for the swearing-in ceremony in the conference room inside Haryana Raj Bhavan.

Union Minister Arjun Munda and BJP national general secretary Tarun Chugh have headed to Chandigarh as observers.

It is rumoured that Khattar may be fielded as a candidate in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.

This expected action is the result of the state’s coalition between the Jannayak Janta Party (JJP) and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) being on the brink of a split.

Independent MLA Nayan Pal Rawat on Tuesday, March 12 claimed that the alliance is at a breakpoint but some independent MLAs who support the ML Khattar government will ensure its survival.

“I met the Chief Minister yesterday. We have already extended our support to CM Manohar Lal-led government. We also discussed the strategy for the Lok Sabha elections. I got the impression that the process of breaking the alliance with JJP has already started,” Haryana Independent MLA Nayan Rawat said on Tuesday after he met with the Chief Minister.

Another independent MLA Dharampal Gonder said that the independent MLAs were supporting the BJP-led government.

Haryana Lokhit Party (HLP) MLA Gopal Kanda claimed that the alliance between the BJP and the JJP was at a break point but the BJP could win all 10 Lok Sabha seats from the state on its own. He also said that there would be another meeting with the Chief Minister after which the future course of action would be determined.

Amid the ongoing tension between the BJP and JJP in the Haryana government, Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar convened a meeting of the BJP and the government-backed Independent MLAs at his Haryana residence at 11:30 am today. Reports suggest that the BJP can formulate a plan during this meeting regarding how to form the government with the help of independent MLAs.

Meanwhile, the Jannayak Janta Party (JJP) has also called a meeting in Delhi and the discussion will be held at the residence of Haryana Deputy Chief Minister Dushyant Chautala. Sources also say that the Haryana Deputy Chief Minister returned the government carcade, a sign that the alliance was at break point.

In the 90-member Haryana Assembly, the BJP has 41 MLAs, it also enjoys the support of 5 independent MLAs and the HLP MLA Gopal Kanda.

Earlier in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, the BJP had won all 10 parliamentary seats while JJP, which had contested the elections in alliance with AAP, could not put up a fight on 7 seats it contested.

The Lok Sabha polls are expected to be held sometime between April and May this year.

‘CAA will not take away citizenship of any Indian citizen irrespective of religion’: PIB fact-checks lies of Qatar-owned, Islamist propaganda outlet Al Jazeera

A day after Al Jazeera falsely claimed that the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) notified by the Modi government was somehow anti-Muslim, the Press Information Bureau (PIB) debunked the lies of the Qatari State-owned propaganda outlet.

On Monday (11th March), Al Jazeera had posted one of its dubious articles on CAA titled ‘India implements ‘anti-Muslim’ 2019 citizenship law weeks before election’ on its X (formerly Twitter) handle.

The Press Information Bureau (PIB), a nodal agency of the Government of India under the Information and Broadcasting (I&B) Ministry, pointed out on Tuesday (12th March) that the claims made by Al Jazeera was misleading.

“Misinformation is being spread by Al Jazeera regarding the Citizenship Amendment Act, calling the act ‘anti-Muslim’,” it tweeted.

PIB further stated, “CAA will not take away citizenship of any Indian citizen irrespective of religion. It’s not against any single religion/ community.”

“It’s an enabling law only to provide citizenship to persecuted minorities from neighboring countries – Afghanistan, Pakistan & Bangladesh,” it emphasised.

In January this year, a Yemini-British journalist named Adnan Al-Ameri revealed how Al Jazeera carries out the agenda of the Muslim Brotherhood at the behest of the Qatari government.

In an interview with the Israeli newspaper The Jerusalem Post, Al-Ameri informed that he worked for the youth channel of Al Jazeera named JeemTV in Doha.

Adnan Al-Ameri informed, “Much of the staff there are of Palestinian descent. Of course, they’re all aligned with Hamas. No Fatah loyalists are to be found there, nor anyone who doesn’t affiliate with Hamas or Qatar’s agendas…Al Jazeera also started to show support for the Houthis and their attacks.”

“Unconstitutional, anti-Muslim, religion-based”: As CAA is implemented, Owaisi, Al Jazeera and others start peddling misinformation, call for protests

The Islamists and the Western media appear to have combined forces once again to peddle the same old narratives against the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) which was notified by the Modi government on 11th March.

The announcement grabbed headlines worldwide as CAA was notified after a gap of four years. The CAA Bill was passed by the Parliament in December 2019. Violent protests manufactured by the Islamists with the help of the Western media claimed over 50 lives and left 200 injured.

Moreover, the Union Home Ministry said on Monday, 11th March, that the CAA notification was delayed owing to the pandemic.

The Citizenship Amendment Act will provide Indian citizenship to the persecuted minorities in neighbouring Islamic countries of Pakistan, Bangladesh and Afghanistan. It has nothing to do with Indian citizens.

Despite this repeated fact-check and clarity from the Central Government and its sources, the ecosystem has been trying to plant the seeds the doubts in the minds of the people.

Sharing its report on X, “Bloomberg Equality” wrote in its post that CAA is a divisive law based on religion.

“India implements a divisive religion-based law, fast-tracking citizenship rights for immigrants from neighbouring nations, except for those who identify as Muslim,” it wrote.

Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan helming the communist government in the state has said that CAA will not be implemented in Kerala.

Following in his footsteps are the Left cadre spreading the rumour that CAA treats Muslim minorities (in India) “as second-class citizens.”

Self-declared journalist Rana Ayyub, who spews vitriol against India and Hindus at every opportunity and often even at her whims and fancies, suggested that the Modi government made the announcement deliberately on the eve of Ramzan.

“To do it on the eve of Ramzan in India. Was there ever any pretence,” Ayyub wrote. Although there is no clarity whether the Washington Post journalist is decrying the timing because she and her ilk will not be able to practice their Muslim street veto and hold state property to ransom like they did in the anti-CAA riots in 2020.

AIMIM President Asaduddin Owaisi has gone steps ahead taking into his ideological fold every excuse to demonise the CAA and the Modi government.

He suggested that the CAA is an election gimmick and that the Act is “based on Godse’s thought that wanted to reduce Muslims to second-class citizens”.

“Give asylum to anyone who is persecuted but citizenship must not be based on religion or nationality. The govt should explain why it kept these rules pending for five years & why it’s implementing them now. Along with NPR-NRC, CAA is meant to only target Muslims, it serves no other purpose,” Owaisi wrote on X.

He also gave out a call for a repeat of protests against the CAA like in 2020. Several Muslims, especially women, in Delhi’s Shaheen Bagh staged protests on the street disrupting traffic to inconvenience locals.

Screenshot of misleading and inciteful tweets by radical Islamists (image source: X)

Similar calls to protest and hold state and streets to ransom were given by his supporters too.

Several anti-India and anti-Hindu slogans were raised during these protests An infant had also died in these protests, which was justified by the protesters.

Al Jazeera broke the news of CAA notification by calling it “anti-Muslim”.

One usual trope being narrated by these Islamists is that CAA and NRC combined would snatch the citizenship of Indian Muslims even as the two laws are different and independent of each other whereas NRC has not been implemented yet.

Even though the Modi government has since at least 2021 been announcing that CAA will be notified before 2024 Lok Sabha elections, the propagandists have been sensationalising the election angle as if it is an electoral strategy planned specifically for the general elections.

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin has been outraging like none other. Taking to X, he wrote that the BJP has weaponised CAA. He blamed the BJP for “betraying Muslims and Sri Lankan Tamils”.

While the former point has been addressed that CAA does not concern any Indian citizen, the DMK President has somehow victimised Sri Lankan Tamils too in all this.

The DMK has earlier too opposed the CAA and is now relating its implementation to 2024 elections.

Many Muslims have also peddled the fake news that CAA will strip Indian Muslims of their citizenship, which is a lie of lies.

CAA paves the way for India to provide shelter to minorities from Ismaic countries of Pakistan, Bangladesh and Afghanistan.

A so-called writer, Raju Parulekar accused the Modi government of Islamophobia over the CAA notification. “CAA is nothing but RSS-BJP’s hatred against Indian Muslims,” he wrote on X.

Self-declared “secular” journalist Arfa Khanum Sherwani put out a frustrated tweet on X, writing, “Look at the triumphalism, the ugly celebrations…”

She further wrote that CAA is about “hatred for your own” and accused India of Muslim hatred.

News anchor-turned-Youtuber Ravish Kumar put out a video rant saying that CAA has been notified only to feed the “Godi media” to take away attention from SC turning down SBI’s plea for extension to file donor details.

It is not clear if Ravish Kumar reads the news but the electoral bonds issue received significant coverage.

Other “journalists” from Newslaundry and such called the announcement a “diversionary tactic” while some others called it “unconstitutional” despite that it was passed by both Houses of the Parliament.

TMC stooge-turned-TMC leader Sagarika Ghose too decried “violation of Article 14 of the Constitution”.

Saba Naqvi joined Ravish Kumar to say that CAA implementation was done to drive attention away from electoral bonds.

Meanwhile, the refugees living in camps in Delhi and Rajasthan have welcomed the decision of the Modi government. Images and videos of celebrations by the refugees who were rescued from Pakistan are doing the rounds on social media showing what it means to the persecuted minorities of Pakistan, Bangladesh and Afghanistan to have a land where they are welcomed and which they can call home.
