Who is Sheezan Khan: The accused in the abetment of suicide case of Tunisha Sharma

TV star Sheezan Mohammed Khan has come under the scanner following the unnatural death of his co-star and rumoured girlfriend, Tunisha Sharma.

Following a complaint by the actress’ mother, Sheezan was arrested by the Waliv Police under the Indian Penal Code (IPC) Section 306 (abetment of suicide) on Sunday (December 25).

Tunisha Sharma reportedly committed suicide on the set of ‘Ali Baba: Dastaan-E-Kabul‘, a TV serial wherein the accused plays the role of the protagonist. Sheezan Mohammed Khan will now be presented before the court for a hearing on December 26, 2022.

Sheezan Mohammed Khan made his debut in the TV series ‘Jodha Akbar (2013-2015)’ and played the character of Sultan Murad Mirza.

After that, he worked in Silsila Pyar ka (2016), Chandra Nandini (2017), Prithvi Vallabh (2018), Tara From Satara (2019), Ek Thi Rani Ek Tha Ravana (2019), Nazar 2 (2020), Pavitra (2021) and Ali Baba: Dastaan-E-Kabul (2022).

It must be mentioned that Khan’s elder sisters, namely, Falak Naaz and Shafaq Naaz are also actresses by profession. Prior to his close association with Tunisha Sharma, the actor was reportedly dating actress Mrinal Singh.

Some reports mentioned that the deceased Tunisha Sharma was pregnant at the time of her death. However, it was later confirmed that she wasn’t pregnant at the time of her death, and died due to suffocation.

It must be pointed out that the actress allegedly committed suicide in the vanity van of the accused actor. The matter is now under investigation. Besides being a TV actor, Sheezan Mohammed Khan also happened to be a TEDx speaker.

In September 2020, he delivered his 20-minute talk on the topic ‘Our darkest times make or break us.’

“In this talk, Sheezan Mohd shares his experiences while being on the journey called life. He talks about his own experience with depression- as someone who’s felt it himself and around him, struggled with it, got out of it and ultimately discovered the importance of self-love and peace within,” the caption of the video read.

Only time will tell whether Tunisha Sharma’s mother will find closure or the case will meet the fate of the suicides of Jiah Khan and Sushant Singh Rajput.

On Saturday, December 24, Ghaziabad police arrested the second accused in the Ghaziabad teen suicide case wherein a teenage girl committed suicide after her neighbours, a father-son duo, uploaded her initimate video on the internet.

The second accused, and father of the main accused Irfan, has been identified as Abdul Rahim (50), who is a resident of Khoda and originally from the Aligarh district. Earlier on December 20, Irfan was nabbed by the police in the case.

Notably, on December 19, a class 12 student committed suicide after getting tired of harassment by her neighbor Irfan. Reportedly, Irfan had lured and trapped the girl into a love affair. He shot a private video of the girl and then made it viral on social media.

The girl’s father alleged that he went to Khoda police station on December 18, however, the police did not take his complaint seriously and the next day she committed suicide by hanging herself from the ceiling fan of her house.

As per the deceased victim’s father, Irfan used to harass her and uploaded her objectionable video on social media platforms and threatened to show it to his friends as well.

On December 17, the girl’s father confronted the accused Irfan’s father and co-accused Abdul, who hurled abuses at him. Due to this incident, the girl further slipped into depression.

On December 20, the main accused Irfan was arrested by the police near Aligarh court.

As per a press note issued by the Ghaziabad Police, the co-accused Abdul Rahim, who was absconding after the girl’s suicide, was nabbed near Lal Kuan bridge in Ghaziabad and has been sent to judicial custody.

The father-son duo has been booked under sections 306 (abetting suicide), 506 (criminal intimidation), and 120 B (criminal conspiracy) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and some sections of the IT Act.

Speaking on the allegations made by the victim’s father about police not taking his complaint seriously, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Deeksha Sharma informed that an internal inquiry will be conducted and necessary action will be taken against the officers found guilty.

China’s projects threat to environment, economy, says report

China’s ambitious projects are posing a severe threat to the global economy and global health in long term and would be disastrous to the world, according to the Voices Against Autocracy reported.

China’s ambitious project, Belt and Road initiative, started in 2013, began with the aim of making better use of Chinese excess industrial capacity and capital but in reality, it is impacting biodiversity spots, endangering several threatened species, and even causing droughts. Under the BRI, the projects vary from high-speed railway lines, coal and hydropower plants, ports, roads, bridges and tourism developments are being constructed. The BRI had impacted many critical biodiversity spots, endangering several threatened species, according to Voices against autocracy citing World Wildlife Fund.

Even, the BRI dams that will be constructed on the Mekong River basin will result in 64 species becoming vulnerable, 30 becoming endangered and 2 becoming critically endangered.

China intends to build 20 dams in the Tibetan portion of the Brahmaputra basin that is expected to generate 60,000 MW of power on the river Yarlung Tsangpo. Nine dams of this monster project will generate 40,000 MW of power at the ‘Great Bend’, a few kilometres upstream of the India-China border. The Great Bend is on top of one of the most unstable onshore seismic zones in the world that have seen five of the most severe earthquakes in recorded history in just over a hundred years. A mega-earthquake can unleash a devastating flood upon the upper northeastern states of India, reported Voices Against Autocracy.

The BRI projects have sparked protests and are strongly opposed by conservationists as many developments specifically on indigenous and local communities throughout Asia, Africa and Latin America have deep impacts on forests and other ecosystems.
China plans to invest in major projects such as a massive deposit of high-grade iron ore in the Simandou Mountains of Guinea, a bauxite-for-infrastructure deal in Ghana and the construction of an oil pipeline between Uganda and Tanzania for which Beijing faced an intense backlash from communities from Africa who accused the developers for destroying ecosystems.

Meanwhile, China is also reported to be the largest contributor of Sulphur oxides and Chlorofluorocarbons, greenhouse gases, to the atmosphere and its dust and pollutants are being transported to its neighbour.

China is also the largest producer of mercury and contributes about one-third of global mercury emissions into the air. Mercury is among the most dangerous environmental toxins that are spreading with air and water currents across national borders. Mercury pollution is usually associated with fish consumption however; methyl mercury has been also reported in rice as well, reported Voices Against Autocracy.

In China’s efforts to emerge as the world’s greatest superpower, they have changed their strategy from defensive to offensive. Now, these projects are damaging other associated countries and the major funds of BRI are coming from China and they adhere to the “host country principle” which would continue to damage.

Being criticized by the world’s environmentalists they proposed the “Green BRI” concept in 2017 to improve the environmental credentials of the initiative, yet the assessment of how the BRI is tied to sustainability is still unsure. However, there are reports that it lacks clear environmental guidelines, safety standards, and worker protections.

The World Wildlife Fund (WWF) has reported that BRI corridors overlap with over 1,700 critical biodiversity sites and the ranges could be adversely affected. A study published in Nature Sustainability suggested BRI projects may lead to “permanent environmental degradation” by causing pollution, habitat loss, and wildlife mortality, among others, as per the Voices Against Autocracy report.

Footballer Mohamed Salah gets cancelled by Islamists on social media again for wishing on Christmas

Footballer Mohamed Salah has been ‘cancelled’ once again for wishing on Christmas. On December 24 (local time), Liverpool FC’s ace footballer Salah posted a photograph of his family sitting in front of a blue Christmas Tree with the caption, “Merry Christmas”. The happy family photograph did not go well with many Muslim social media users on various platforms, and they cancelled him in comments on both Twitter and Instagram. Salah is an Egyptian footballer who plays as a forward for Premier League Club Liverpool and is captain of Egypt’s national team.

Instagram User yxsm._ wrote, “Just as a reminder to everyone who is nonmuslim, WE MUSLIMS DO NOT CELEBRATE CHRISTMAS. It’s associating partners with God bc we believe he has no partners or children, and this is a major sin to believe!!!”

Another Instagram user, black_kiinnng, expressed dismay at a Muslim celebrating Christmas and said, “Can’t believe dis every year the same thing a big influencer like you taking part in this paganism event this is not from the Quran this is not from the sunnah this is shirk my beloved brother Mohamed first and foremost before a footballer your a Muslim away from the fame and clout one day you will have to answer to Allah azawajal as to why you glorified and promoted this for millions of people to see I’m gonna make Dua for you Insha’Allah, but honestly this is not from the deen this is not from the prophet (SAW) this is from pagans this is from the shaitaan May Allah guide us all Ameen.”

Instagram user chochoky19 declared Salah should change his name and said, “He doesn’t deserve Muhammad’s name at all. Our prophet Muhammad didn’t and could never celebrate Christmas.”

Source: Instagram

Instagram user jvzsminee warned him that ‘Allah is watching’ and said, “Do u realise Allah can still see through the walls of ur house and u can’t hide ur Christmas tree.”

Social media influencer who has over 1 million followers Alinur Mohamed (honalinur) also questioned Salah. He said, “We thought you were a role model and the best ambassador for your religion to influence others. We did not expect you to be affected and to share with them (cursing and cursing God), Salah. Don’t be like someone who sells his religion with a little offer from God. Congratulate them for fame or your satisfaction or money! “Whoever pleases people with God’s wrath, God will be angry with him and people will be angry with him”.

Instagram user itssidalou said, “Astagfirullah. You celebrating Christmas means that you believe Jesus Christ is your lord and that his birthday is tomorrow. When actually, nobody knows when his is birthday was and the prophets never celebrated their birthday. As a Muslim celebrating Christmas is haram and u encouraging your children is bad. Allah punishes the parents who don’t treat their kids about their deen. May Allah guide you.”

Twitter was no different. Twitter user Saif said, “I’m convinced that he does this just to piss off Muslims on social media. Anyways this is the guy y’all take as your role model?”

Another Twitter user SMA, said, “This guy is dumb. Has his brains in his feet, that’s why he’s a kicking a ball for a living.”

Twitter user JaSori said, “This is against the teachings of the Islam, you can say Merry Christmas but you’re not allowed to celebrate it like this. Totally disgraceful.”

Past’ cancellations’ of Salah

This is not the first time or the only reason for Salah to get cancelled on social media by the Islamists. In September, he got cancelled for condoling Queen Elizabeth II’s demise. Salah tweeted that the people of Great Britain and the world pay tribute and bid a final farewell to Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. “My thoughts are with the Royal Family on this historic and emotional day,” he tweeted. Following his tweet, Islamists from across the globe attacked him on social media.

In December 2021, his Muslim credentials were cancelled for sharing a picture of himself with his family for Christmas. This was the third time in a row his Christmas pictures had upset Muslim fans, as they thought it was inappropriate for him to participate in religious activities of another faith.

He was also attacked earlier when he said that he doesn’t consume alcohol because he doesn’t feel like and many Islamists felt he should be a proud Muslim and say it as it is that alcohol is haram (prohibited) in Islam.

France: Violence grips Paris ahead of Christmas, here is what happened

On Friday (December 23), violence broke out in the French capital of Paris as members of the Kurdish community clashed with the police.

According to reports, the Kurdish men had gathered outside the Ahmet-Kaya Kurdish centre on Rue d’Enghien in the 10th district of Paris. The development came following a ‘racist attack’ that left three Kurdish activists dead.

Although the demonstrations were initially peaceful, the law and order situation quickly deteriorated. The protestors tried to break through barricades, forcing the police in riot gear to lob tear gas shells at them.

Reportedly, the Kurdish protestors also smashed car windows and set streets on fire. They also threw projectiles at the police. One violent demonstrator was also caught on camera hurling a bench at the cops.

Later on Saturday (December 24), the Kurdish Democratic Council in France (CDK-F) organised a gathering at the Place de la Republique, which was joined by the local Mayor Alexandra Cordebard. Hundreds of Kurdish demonstrators turned up for the event and listened to the tributes offered to the victims.

“We know that we are under threat, Kurds in general, Kurdish activists and militants. France owes us protection,” CDK-F spokesperson Berivan Firat remarked. A meeting was also held with the Parisian police chief Laurent Nunez wherein Kurds raised concerns about the lack of police protection.

The Background of the violence

On Friday (December 23), a 69-year-old white supremacist named William M shot three activists dead, outside a Kurdish community centre in the 10th arrondissement in Paris.

The accused also entered a nearby hair salon, where he was disarmed and injured in the face. The victims included two men and a woman. Three others were also injured during the ‘racist attack’ and are now being treated for their serious condition.

A rail worker by occupation, William was earlier charged with attempted murder in 2016 and a knife attack at a migrant centre in 2021.

While speaking to the BBC, an eyewitness named Ali Dalek narrated, “We were walking in the street and heard gunshots. We turned around and saw people running left and right. And then, five or six minutes later, because we know people who work at the hair salon, we went in and we saw that they had arrested a guy.”

Reportedly, the police were able to detain William without much resistance and also recovered the weapon. They also interrogated the accused and added a racist motive to his actions.

In a statement, French President Emmanuel Macron said, “The Kurds in France have been the target of an odious attack in the heart of Paris. Thoughts for the people who are fighting for their lives, their families and their loved ones. Thanks to the security forces for their courage and sang-froid.”

Earlier in January 2013, three female Kurdish activists were killed in a similar fashion in Paris. The victims were identified as Sakine Cansiz, Fidan Dogan, and Leyla Soylemez.

The Kurds form the 4th largest ethnic group in the Middle East. Mostly comprised of Sunni Muslims, they are scattered along the borders of Armenia, Syria, Iran, Iraq and Turkey. They are stateless despite being promised nationhood after the end of First World World and the fall of the Ottoman Empire.

The Kurds constitute roughly 20% of Turkey’s population. They have been subjected to inhuman atrocities in the form of restrictions on the use of Kurdish language, ban on Kurdish costumes & names and denial of independence or autonomy by the Turkish government.

Wasi brutally thrashed his wife and then electric shocks to her, which caused Aqsha Fatima’s death. Later, Wasi buried Aqsha’s dead body in the room.

Two days after the murder, when Wasi’s mother Aashiya Begum who was in Kanpur called Wasi he told her that Aqsha has gone somewhere. Afghanistan: Taliban govt bans women from working in local and foreign NGOs, says female employees not following Islamic dress code

On Saturday, 24th December 2022, all domestic and international non-governmental organizations (NGOs) in Afghanistan were ordered by the Taliban government to forbid the presence of female employees at work. The decision was communicated through a letter from the economy ministry. This step by the Islamic rulers in Afghanistan is another crackdown on women’s freedom in a series of such recent decisions.

According to the letter, which was confirmed by Abdulrahman Habib, a spokesman for the economics ministry, some of the female employees were not following the administration’s version of the Islamic dress code for women, hence women employees are not permitted to work until further notice. According to this order, women can’t work in domestic and international non-governmental organisations from now on.

The order’s potential impact on United Nations organizations, which are heavily represented in Afghanistan and provide assistance in the midst of the country’s humanitarian crisis, was not immediately evident. However, Habib said that the letter referred to organizations under Afghanistan’s coordinating body for humanitarian organizations, known as ACBAR, when questioned if the regulations extended to U.N. agencies as well.

More than 180 national and international NGOs are a part of that organization, which excludes the United Nations. To carry out its humanitarian activities, the United Nations frequently enters into contracts with NGOs registered in Afghanistan. Women employees, according to aid workers, are essential to ensuring that women can obtain help.

The international community has started criticising the move, with Norway saying that they will review the situation and demanded to reverse the decision immediately. “I strongly condemn the ban on female employees of NGOs in Afghanistan. This decision must be reversed immediately. Norway will review the situation with partners and issue an appropriate response,” Norwegian foreign minister Anniken Huitfeldt said.

It is notable that Norway funds aid programs in Afghanistan, and hosted talks between Taliban and civil society members earlier this year.

Paul Klouman Bekken, the Charge D’Affaires for Norway, strongly condemned the decision to ban women from NGOs in Afghanistan. “The ban on female employees in NGOs must be reversed immediately. In addition to being a blow to women´s rights, this move will exacerbate the humanitarian crisis and hurt the most vulnerable Afghans,” Bekken tweeted.

This order came days after women were banned from attending universities by the Taliban-run government, drawing considerable condemnation from across the world as well as some protests and harsh criticism within Afghanistan.
