Maria Zakharova, the Russian foreign ministry diplomat has lashed out at certain Western media publications for their dubious claims of Russia’s supposed invasion of Ukraine. Zakharova, who is the Director of the Information and Press Department at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Russia, asked the western media to announce the schedule of Russian ‘invasions’ for the coming year so that Russian diplomats can plan their vacations accordingly.
The Russian Foreign Ministry has called on Western media outlets to publish a full list of dates on which Russia will invade Ukraine for the year ahead, so Russian diplomats can schedule their vacations accordingly.
Maria Zakharova wrote on her telegram channel, “A request to US and British disinformation media: Bloomberg, The New York Times, The Sun, etc. – announce the schedule of our ‘invasions’ for the coming year, I would like to plan a vacation,” This came after certain British news outlets like The Sun and The Mirror published that the ‘invasion of Ukraine’ was to happen at 3:00 AM on February 16 citing American intelligence data. Bloomberg had earlier reported on February 04, with a headline “Russia invades Ukraine” for which it had to apologise with a statement on publishing error.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Russia had earlier issued a statement condemning the ‘fake news campaign’ by Western media outlets as a result of a ‘collusion between the Western governments and media aimed at fanning tensions over Ukraine’ to serve their geopolitical interests.
❗️ We regard this as #collusion between the Western governments and media aimed at fanning tensions over Ukraine by means of a massive and coordinated #fakenews campaign designed to serve their geopolitical interests.
Commenting on Zakharova’s statements, Dmitry Peskov, Press secretary of the President of Russia asserted that Ukrainians should set alarms and see for themselves that such statements are false.
Meanwhile, tensions continue to escalate over the Ukrainian border as President Volodymyr Zelensky has claimed that there are no signs of Russian withdrawal yet. However, Russia has won the game in narrative by mincing no words while slamming fake and fear-mongering reports by the Western media.
The Sonipat police have recovered a liquor bottle from the damaged car of deceased actor and singer Deep Sidhu who was one of the accused in the 2021 Republic Day riots. Deep Sidhu had died in a road accident on KMP (Kundli-Manesar) Highway near Delhi on 15th February 2022.
Deep Sidhu was driving the vehicle when this accident took place. With him in his car was his girlfriend Reena Rai. Both were going from Delhi to Bathinda. Reena Rai survived the accident because of the airbags. The accident took place near Kharkhoda toll at around 9:30 PM when Deep Sidhu’s Scorpio car hit a 22-tired truck from behind. The impact was so lethal that the Scorpio car was badly mangled.
Reportedly, Reena Rai has told the police that she had come from the USA to India on 13th January 2022. Deep Sidhu had stayed with her in the Oberoi hotel of Gurugram. She has informed that both of them had left Gurugram at around 7:30 PM. They later took the KMP highway on which the accident took place. The truck was not stationary as some initial reports in the media had said. The truck and the car both were moving in the same direction when the car rammed into the truck from the rear side. The front part of the vehicle was badly damaged. The truck dragged the car ahead for 20 to 30 meters. Reena Rai was sleeping at the time of the accident. She woke up with the accident’s impact.
She then called some friends of her. Meanwhile, an ambulance had also reached the accident spot. Deep Sidhu was taken to a nearby hospital where he was declared dead by the doctors immediately. Reena Rai, though survived, has some injuries. She is being treated and is currently stable. The police have recovered a half-filled liquor bottle from the damaged car but it is not yet clear if it was a case of drink and drive. Whether Deep Sidhu was drunk will be known only after the post mortem report is available. An autopsy was conducted on Wednesday morning, after which the body was handed over to the family for last rites.
The police are also searching for the driver of the truck as the reason for this accident is not clearly known yet. A case has been registered against the owner and the unidentified driver of the truck involved in the accident.
However, the police are considering it as a case of accident due to reckless driving. Sonipat SP Rahul Sharma said, “We are again investigating the scene of the accident. We also found a half-filled bottle of liquor from Deep Sidhu’s car. It looks like a case of reckless driving.”
It may be noted that Deep Sidhu had spent Valentine’s Day with Reena Rai a day before the tragic accident. Reena Rai had shared a picture of herself with Deep Sidhu on social media, where both had posed for a selfie on a mirror before heading out for Valentine’s Day celebrations. Deep Sidhu and Reena Rai had been together for a couple of years, and regularly posts photographs of them together on their social media accounts.
From the last few days, a pernicious attempt is being made by members of the left intelligentsia to discredit author and historian Vikram Sampath and his oeuvre of work, especially his volumes on freedom fighter Veer Savarkar. Through what appeared a concerted attempt to tarnish his reputation, several luminaries of the left, including apologist of Mughals Audrey Truschke, took to social media to make defamatory and slanderous allegations against him.
It all started with a letter written by three professors from universities in the US including Ananya Chakravarti, Rohit Chopra and Audrey Truschke, who accused Sampath of “plagiarism” in his two-volume biography of Hindutva ideologue V D Savarkar. In their letter, they requested the Royal Historical Society(RHS), which recently admitted Sampath as a member, to initiate action against the renowned historian.
The accusation against Sampath over alleged plagiarism came in two parts – one where the professors claimed that the author has not quoted the works of Scholars Vinayak Chaturvedi and Janaki Bakhale in his speech to the Indian Foundation. The second, on another hand, was a hard-hitting claim of Vikram Sampath not crediting a thesis by a deceased undergraduate student Paul Schaffel from Wesleyan University in 2012. However, a simple deconstruction of the letter indicates that the case against Sampath is rather weak, and probably borne out of malice for his remarkable scholarship of the revolutionary leader VD Savarkar.
Pertinently, the claims made in the letter were fiercely contested by Sampath, who also resorted to legal recourse to challenge the allegations of plagiarism levelled against him. Sampath approached the Delhi High Court against the academic, especially Truschke, whose tweet he has described as ‘defamatory’. Truschke had tweeted the letter and accused Sampath of indulging in plagiarism.
Notwithstanding Sampath’s move to approach the Delhi High Court against the malicious campaign mounted against him, apparently to discredit his biography on Savarkar, the online bullies from the Left sprung into action amplifying slanderous allegations of plagiarism made against Sampath and besmirching his reputation.
Dr Sampath faces online bullying after ‘historians’ accuse him of plagiarism in his books on Veer Savarkar
Like conscientious foot-soldiers, a host of left-leaning liberals joined their ideological brethren in smearing Vikram Sampath with spurious allegations of plagiarism against him because he dared to challenge the Left’s negative portrayal of Veer Savarkar. Twitter was replete with posts by left ideologues and their supporters denigrating Vikram for his two-volume biography on India’s most-reviled freedom fighter, Veer Savarkar.

Some left-leaning intellectuals who were spoiling to have a go at Dr Sampath used the plagiarism row to take potshots at the noted historians.

A Twitter user even suggested that it is Dr Sampath’s responsibility to prove the allegations of plagiarism are instead of asking his detractors to furnish incontrovertible evidence that proves his culpability. Apparently, when Rana Ayyub was accused of committing fraud under the pretext of helping the poor and needy, these very same leftist foot-soldiers went around declaring her innocence and accusing the Centre of indulging in political vendetta.

Freedom fighter Veer Savarkar remains the most-reviled historical figures by the Left intelligentsia
Veer Savarkar has long been maligned by historians sympathetic to the Congress and the Left for his unalloyed support for Hindus and propounding the Hindutva ideology. A meticulously slanted narrative demonising him—from accusing him of being involved in Gandhi’s murder to making common cause with the British—has been peddled so that Hindus are guilt-tripped into following the path advocated by him. The Left has also cited apologies tendered by Savarkar to the British to belittle his contribution to India’s freedom struggle without elaborating the rigorous travails he had to suffer during his incarceration in the Andamans and later in Ratnagiri.
Vikram Sampath tried to challenge this prevailing narrative that was assiduously crafted by the Left and sought to present an objective analysis of Savarkar’s life, the struggles he endured and the choices he made. In addition to this, it was also perhaps the first time in history that an author elaborated on Veer Savarkar’s point of view through analysis of literary work undertaken by the freedom fighter. Until now, those who claim to provide “scholarship” on Savarkar often ignored his academic writings and furnished opinions on Savarkar from the leftist prism.
Some of them who did try to take into account his academic work took great liberty in twisting or misrepresenting them since most of the literature composed by Savarkar was in Marathi and thus had a limited reach. The propagandists used this limitation to the hilt, bastardising Veer Savarkar’s work or providing it out of context to build on their campaign to malign the freedom fighter.
Dr Sampath’s biography presents unvarnished truth about Congress treachery in British India, debunks Left’s fabricated myths on Savarkar
However, Dr Sampath analysed Savarkar’s Marathi compositions and offered an unalloyed exegesis of them, thereby providing a greater insight into what Savarkar wanted to convey through his literary work and his ideological moorings rather than relying on prejudiced accounts of his work through the agency of liberal ‘historians’, who more often than not did not consider it important to examine Savarkar’s Marathi compositions. Sampath’s attempt to provide a thorough examination of Savarkar’s work had obviously drawn the ire of the left cabal, who had spent years vilifying one of the earliest proponents of Hindutva ideologue.
Besides presenting unvarnished facts about Veer Savarkar’s life, Dr Sampath also presented sordid details of Congress’ treachery in the pre-independent India. Providing Savarkar’s take on Congress and Gandhi, Dr Sampath’s book states that the grand old party often took contradictory stances in their fight against the British, thereby confusing masses on their stand against the foreign imperialism. For instance, the book cites two instances—Non Cooperation movement and Civil Disobedience Movement—when the party, on the insistence of Gandhi, called off the rebellion when it was reaching a crescendo and turning into a national movement.
In his book, Dr Sampath also presents specific instances that underscore Congress’ treachery against Hindus. It said the Congress and the Gandhis participated in the Khilafat movement although the campaign had little to do with subcontinent Muslims. This movement ultimately led to the Moplah massacre of Hindus, but the Congress and Gandhi refused to outrightly condemn it, lest it would disenchant Muslims away from the party. Hindu concerns were disregarded as communal and alarmist while great efforts were undertaken by the Congress to appease Muslims, seemingly in order to wean Muslim support away from the League.
However, as it turned out, the Congress failed in attracting Muslims under its fold while also alienating Hindus with its minority appeasement policy, Dr Sampath averred in his book citing Savarkar’s correspondences from that time. Thus, the book not only debunked the carefully manufactured myths surrounding Savarkar but it also exposed Congress and Gandhi for betraying hallowed principle of “secularism” and going out on their limb to win over Muslim support, and still failing.
Naturally, the biography was a revelation for the majority of the Indians who have grown up reading prejudiced accounts of one of the country’s foremost freedom fighters and a prolific writer of his time. It shattered the Left’s myth of considering themselves as the sole guardians of intellectualism and history and stripped them of their privilege to decide who could be celebrated as icons.
Contrary to the left ideologues’ patently partisan take on Savarkar, Dr Sampath provided a dispassionate analysis of facts, providing truth as it is without any embellishment as the Left often resorts to in order to reinforce its narrative. The two-volume biography of Veer Savarkar by Dr Sampath is by no means a eulogy to the freedom fighter, absolving him of his mistakes or aggrandising him for his accomplishments. Rather, it seeks to present facts as they are, sans the perversion that has often featured in the Left’s “scholarship” on Savarkar.
The Left’s online bullying of Vikram Sampath betrays desperation to salvage their fabricated historical accounts
Dr Sampath’s audacity to disembowel Left’s propaganda on Savarkar and lay bare the reality expectedly prompted a fierce pushback from the Left intellectuals who have been used to building narratives and commanding obedience. Since Dr Sampath refused to toe their line and defiantly presented facts that undermine the Left’s partisan narrative, they launched a full-frontal attack against the distinguished historian, targeting his reputation and ipso facto his body of work.
This targeted campaign against Dr Sampath and the online bullying that followed in its wake demonstrates the Left’s desperation in clinging on to control thoughts of people. For decades, they have been holding sway over popular perceptions, but since 2014, after PM Modi came to power, their grip over public discourse and historical narrative has slackened dramatically as lies and myths propped up by them have come crashing down.
In this context, Dr Sampath’s scholarship on Savarkar has served yet another body blow to the Left’s attempt to obfuscate facts and present a fabricated historical narrative that jibes perfectly well with their Nehruvian propaganda. His book has not only busted myths about Savarkar but also exposed the treachery of Congress and its senior leaders that ‘liberals’ draw inspiration from and swore their allegiance to. Witnessing their authority being challenged, their propaganda being busted and their credibility being undermined, the Left and their loyal digital warriors have launched a concerted shrill attack against Dr Sampath, trying desperately to maintain their relevance and salvage their concocted historical accounts.
An FIR has been registered against alleged journalist Rana Ayyub for calling students at Udupi college protesting with Saffron flags as terrorists. The move came after a clipping of Rana’s recent interview with BBC Journalist Yalda Hakim appeared on social media.
In an interview with the BBC, Rana Ayyub can be clearly seen referring to Hindu students protesting against Burqa as vigilantes and terrorists. In an aggressive tone typical to her, she was seen ranting, “…Why suddenly has this group of young Hindu vigilantes – Hindu terrorists for that matter who are hosting saffron flags in an educational complex in Karnataka?” She was seen questioning, “Why are male students unfurling a saffron flag in an educational institution, what does that mean?”
Students with Saffron Flags in Karnataka are terorists: Alleged Journalist Rana Ayyub pic.twitter.com/oqWLqwHyIc
After the inciting video made rounds on social media, Ashutosh J Dubey, a practising lawyer at Bombay High Court has filed an FIR against Rana Ayyub on Wednesday afternoon. The Online complaint registered with Greater Mumbai Police at Bandra read, “The videos are willfully spelling inciting and derogatory statements against the students who all hold Saffron flags,” In the complaint, Dubey has argued that Ayyub attracts certain IPC sections for her hate speech.
The Washington Post columnist was in the news after her assets were recently attached by the ED after being accused of financial fraud worth Rs 1.77 crore in the name of Covid-19 donations. However, Rana did not eat a humble pie after being exposed but has rather carried on with her Hindupohobic rants, recently in an interview with the BBC.
On Wednesday, Trinamool Congress leader Yashwant Sinha took to Twitter to make a bizarre claim stating that he had received information that Adani Group is directly favouring the BJP in the Uttar Pradesh elections.
The TMC leader claimed that the BJP was allowing the company to distribute free “1 kilo” of the company’s Fortune cooking oil in addition to the free food that the central govt is distributing.
The former Finance Minister Yashwant Singh went on to ask whether the ongoing elections were free and fair at all.
For an average follower, the TMC leader’s tweet looks just another routine political tweet made against the BJP government. However, this particular tweet is beyond a political tweet, as it contains layers of misinformation attached to it.
There is no proof whatsoever to suggest that Adani Group themselves have been distributing its flagship oil brand Fortune cooking oil to the people of Uttar Pradesh ahead of the assembly elections. In addition, the former Finance Minister fails to realise that all the packed oil packets of Fortune cooking oil come in the unit of litres and not in the kilogram.
Cooking oil part of National Food Security Act, govt procures it from NAFED
In reality, the Uttar Pradesh government is already providing one litre of refined oil, one kilogram of chickpeas, and a packet of salt to all the ration cardholders in the state. This is provided along with wheat and rice that is provided under the National Food Security Act.
Reportedly, the distribution of free oil was announced in December of the last year, much ahead of the polls. The oil and chickpeas are being from the National Agricultural Cooperative Marketing Federation of India. The chana or chickpeas has been procured from Kanpur, while the refined oil has been sourced from Bharatpur in Rajasthan.
The government has procured from a central agency, and there is no proof that the oil has been procured from one private entity – Adani Wilmar, which produces the Fortune cooking oil. In addition, there is also no proof that Adani Group has supplied the free oil packets to the people of Uttar Pradesh.
Most importantly, the free salt, oil and chickpea packets come in a pack with the image of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on it. The government may have procured the Fortune oil packets due to the short supply of oil procured by NAFED.
However, one cannot say that the BJP allowed Adani to supply free oil to the public. Moreover, Fortune is a huge brand and is popular among consumers, even if some people get packets of the oil, a former finance minister claiming that packets of cooking oil from a particular brand indicate some sort of collusion between a company and a political party is not just unfortunate but is profoundly stupid.
It is like refusing to drive on a road because it was built by L and T saying the person does not like the company or saying ‘do not use mobile phones’ because Jio provides the connection.
There is no proof for the claims made by Yashwant Sinha that either Adani Group or the government is distributing Fortune cooking to the voters of Uttar Pradesh during the ongoing state assembly elections.
It seems like TMC leader Yashwant Sinha has objections about distributing free food packets to poor people. The tweet suggests that the former Finance Minister is not happy with the centre distributing food grains and rations to the poor of the country, who have struggled to find livelihood opportunities due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
On February 15, Conde Nast Traveller, a luxury travel magazine, published an article by Kris Fordham, a travel writer for the publication, among several others, including CNN Travel and others. In the article, Fordham discussed her experience at Reefsuites, Australia’s first underwater hotel. In a tweet thread based on the article, Conde Nast Traveller published a tweet that attracted a lot of criticism from ocean life lovers.
Controversial tweet by luxury travel magazine. Source: Twitter
In the tweet, the publication wrote, “Suddenly, the fish dart away. Out of the depths, a hideous, shark-like creature with mottled grey skin and bulging eyes emerges and begins slinking towards me. Suddenly, his jaws open, revealing rows upon rows of thin, sharp teeth.” The tweet was in direct reference to the article by Fordham. There was a photograph included in the tweet that was of a Whale Shark.
The ocean lovers noticed the tweet and lashed out at the publication for an ‘insensitive’ and ‘disgraceful’ description of an endangered ocean creature. Whale Sharks have ‘vestigial teeth’. They cannot chew or bite. They are filter feeders and live on microscopic food sources like krill, shrimp or plankton. They basically swallow anything that comes in their way, and with hardly 2.5 cm wide throat, it is next to impossible for the Whale Sharks to eat any large animal.
In fact, a Twitter user Magicalfxz, described Whale Sharks as a “teddy bear” of the sea. The user said, “First of all, that’s one of the most docile and gentle giants of the sea they eat krill and plankton, and they love divers near them. The Whale Shark is like a teddy bear of the sea you need to stop with your misinformation.”

Another user, DiamondSDgaming, urged the publication not to make the animal a villain.
No whale sharks aren’t monsters their a endangered filter feeding shark they are big but peaceful animals the only thing that might run away from this animal is anything that’s microscopic like krill shrimp and plankton Don’t make animals look like a villain. https://t.co/5464vypUD0
A Twitter user LadySrewolf said the language of the article sends a wrong message about the sea creatures. She said, “I understand he’s trying to write a story here, but describing a whale shark as hideous and calling it a sea monster like it will come and get you is an insult. Even if you’re being sarcastic, it sends out a bad message.”

She was replying to a user Matt Lancaster who pointed out that Whale Shark has a small throat. He said, “Ah yes, the whale shark, the gentle filter feeders that eat krill and plankton predominantly and have a throat only 2.5 cm in diameter. Such scary teeth, lol. Though I will give you that they are indeed sharks (hence the shark-like).”
The wrong choice of image by the publication
In the article, the author was not referring to a Whale Shark but to a Queensland Grouper. Though the Grouper has teeth, the gentle ‘giant’ fish is not in any way hideous. It has teeth and is huge in size, sometimes weighs over 350 KG or 800 pounds, Grouper also prefer to swallow its prey whole. They are not dangerous to humans, but it not is advisable to feed them directly by hand, and divers must be cautious around them because of their curious nature.
The publication used the wrong image and published the tweet with a photograph of a Whale Shark. Both choices of words and choice of the image stirred controversy.
In the first of a kind event, Libya on Tuesday organised a beauty pageant for chickens in its capital Tripoli. The fascinating event was attended and appreciated by visitors from all over the country who were astonished to see plenty of chicken breeds from all over the world in one place.
According to the reports, the event was aimed at promoting professional chicken breeders and also to provide an opportunity for the youth to understand the craft of breeding birds. The chickens that participated in the event were judged on the basis of their colour, size, shape, and shine of feathers.
The event supervisor, Khaled Diab said that the event saw a gathering of ornamental chicken breeders. “This is a great profession that has taken youth away from negativity and wars. I hope the officials will support the youth in this field”, he was quoted adding that the birds that took part in the event were worthy of participating in international competitions as well.
Prices of the competing chickens ranged from $50 to $800. One of the chicken breeders who won the competition had participated with the Brahma Chicken breed. He said that he received the highest percentage of votes, 93.8%. Describing the Brahma Chicken breed he stated that the chicken had won because of its softness and the shine of the feathers.
Libya has been in a war-like situation since 2011 pertaining to the humanitarian crisis and political-military instability occurring in the country. The first civil war lasted for 8 months in the year 2011 and the latest one was a multi-sided civil war that lasted from 2014 to 2020.
The organizers of the chicken beauty pageant in Libya intended to redirect the youth’s attention from the negativity and the ongoing conflict in the country. According to the reports, Chicken beauty pageants are common and quite popular in Southeast Asia, especially Indonesia and Malaysia but this was the first time when a country in Africa hosted the beauty pageant for chickens.
On Wednesday, Muslim girl students wearing hijab and burqa protested against a college in Tumkur after they were denied entry into the campus. They yelled ‘Allah-hu-Akbar, Allah-hu-Akbar’ slogans as they walked down in protest on the streets of Tumkur, Karnataka.
According to the reports, the colleges in Tumkur reopened today and stopped the hijab and burqa-wearing Muslim girls from entering the campus in accordance with the Karnataka High Court’s interim decision. The High Court last week had declared that nobody would dress up in religious attire in the educational institutes until the matter was being heard. The women were seen wearing hijab and burqa even after the HC’s order and kept on protesting for justice.
This is a day after the Karnataka govt imposed section 144 in Tumkur district ahead of the college reopening in order to prevent violence. The prohibitory order is to apply in and around 200 meters from the college in Tumkur. Reports mention that a total of nine districts in Karnataka are currently under Section 144. Also, police personnel have been posted near several schools and colleges to maintain law and order.
Earlier the day, a number of schools and college administrations in Karnataka didn’t allow students and teachers wearing hijab to enter the school, college premises. Tensions flared up as they were asked to remove the hijab at the school, college gates before entering the campus. SJMV College for Women in Hubli even declared a holiday for today after some girls insisted on entering the college in Hijab, which the college refused citing the High Court order. The girls had agreed to remove the burqa but refused to remove the hijab.
Karnataka| Today we've followed the High Court's (interim) order in which it is clear that they (students) have to follow the dress code. But some students said they'll not come without Hijab…so we've declared a holiday: Lingaraj Angadi, SJMV College for Women in Hubli pic.twitter.com/6H7KsOQiCy
The hijab row that erupted earlier this month took an unprecedented turn after the Muslim girls wearing hijab gained massive support from Taliban, Pakistan leaders and also Islamists and liberal heads from within the country. So much so, that last week a couple of reports highlighted that students also offered Namaz inside the school premises. In Bagalkote and Kadapa in Mangalore, Muslim girls offered Namaz in the corridor area of a govt school even after the principal clearly directed the students that they can’t offer Namaz in the classrooms or in the school premises.
Pertinently, the girls chanting ‘Allah-hu-Akbar’ on the streets of Tumkur probably have drawn inspiration from Muskan Khan who had shouted ‘Allah-hu-Akbar’ at a group of students inside PES College in Mandya, Karnataka on February 8. She was later rewarded with a brand new iPhone, cash and a house for defending the Islamic agenda.
The Police meanwhile and the local administrative authorities in Karnataka have suspected that the Campus Front of India (CFI) has instigated the girls to run the Muslim agenda and are investigating into the matter. Udupi MLA K Raghupathi Bhat has also called for an NIA investigation into the hijab controversy. “The students all by themselves cannot plant themselves into such a massive operations and conjure up such support for the Hijab movement”, he said.
The girls have admitted to have been consulting CFI over the hijab row. They have been in talks with the CFI since October 2021 and the pro-hijab protests started in December 2021. Reportedly, CFI is the students with of Islamist outfit Popular Front of India (PFI), an extremist organisation banned in various states.
The High Court so far has declared that no one should be allowed to wear their religious attire inside the educational institutions until the matter is pending in the Court. However, the Supreme Court denied to interfere in the matter after the girls impatiently knocked the doors of the apex court.
BJP Spokesperson from Uttar Pradesh Rakesh Tripathi reportedly received threat calls from a person from UP’s Mainpuri in the wee hours of today morning. The leader has lodged an FIR over the incident alleging the role of the Samajwadi Party behind the incident.
UP BJP leader and spokesperson Rakesh Tripathi received two calls – the first at 6:45 AM and then another later in the morning threatening him for life after hurling abuses. It was found that the calls came from a person located in UP’s Mainpuri, which Tripathi had visited two days earlier for campaigning. An FIR has been registered by the leader at Ashiyana station in Lucknow East.
Speaking to OpIndia, Rakesh Tripathi said, “Today morning I got a call at 6:45, wherein a person was continuously abusing me and gave me life threats. I contacted the Police to inform the same, after which I received a second similar call. In the second call, A person named Amit Yadav threatened me that I will be attacked soon,”
Alleging the role of the Samajwadi Party behind this, Rakesh Tripathi described the sequence of events after he visited Mainpuri. “Two days before, I had visited Mainpuri to participate in a debate by AajTak, which turned out to be very enthusiastic among BJP workers while Samajwadi party was dejected. Yesterday, I had also raised my voice against the attack on SP Singh Baghel’s convoy on many TV channels,” he added.
Talking about the politics behind the act, he asserted, “We are very much concerned about the repeated attacks on our party leaders, be it the attack on SP Singh Baghel in Karhal or the attack on RS MP Geeta Shakya’s car. The reason behind this might be the dwindling fate of Akhilesh Yadav as a candidate from Karhal.” He asserted, “They are trying to threaten us, attack us but we will not budge as we continue to have faith in democracy. We will keep on fighting,”
The attacks on BJP leaders in UP has seen a rise as the assembly elections in the state are on the way. On February 14, BJP MP from Rajya Sabha Geeta Shakya was attacked in Mainpuri while she was in her car. Stones and mud were hurled at her car, while her driver had been severely injured in the incident. On Tuesday evening in Mainpuri’s Karhal, Union Minister and BJP leader Satya Pal Singh Baghel was attacked and pelted with stones as well.
It is to be noted that Mainpuri has been a stronghold of the Samajwadi Party while Akhilesh Yadav has chosen Karhal as his constituency for the first time. Karhal goes to the polls on February 20 in the third phase of assembly elections this year.
A Catholic priest in Arizona has resigned from his parish after the church investigation revealed that he had performed thousands of incorrect baptisms throughout most of his 20-year career.
According to the reports, Father Andres Arango had to resign from the priesthood after the baptisms he had carried out were deemed invalid due to the incorrect wording used during the religious ceremony.
The Catholic Diocese of Phoenix announced on its website that it determined after careful study that Father Andres Arango had used the wrong wording in baptisms performed up until June 17, 2021.
Father Andres Arango, who performed thousands of baptisms in the last two decades, would say, “We baptize you in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit,” during the ceremony. Instead, the priest, who performed baptisms in English and Spanish, should have said, “I baptize,” the diocese explained.
“It is not the community that baptizes a person and incorporates them into the Church of Christ; rather, it is Christ, and Christ alone, who presides at all sacraments; therefore, it is Christ who baptizes,” the diocese said.
In its release, the Catholic Diocese of Phoenix said that if someone is baptized using the wrong words, that means that the baptism is invalid, and the person is not baptized.
Diocese spokesperson Katie Burke said that Arango is believed to have used the incorrect word since the beginning of his priesthood in 1995.
“I do not have an exact number of people affected, but I believe they number in the thousands,” the spokesperson added.
In a statement, Bishop Thomas J Olmsted, the head of the diocese, said that the error was first reported to him. It was later confirmed after an investigation by diocesan officials in consultation with the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith in Rome. He noted that the Vatican’s Congregation for the Doctrine of Faith established in 2020 that baptisms conferred with the phrase “We baptize you” are invalid.
The church officials said they are working closely with Arango and his former parishes to find if anyone may have been baptized invalidly. The diocese said that while the situation may be legally sound, the words, materials and actions are crucial aspects of every sacrament, and altering them makes the baptism invalid.
“For example, if a priest uses milk instead of wine during the Consecration of the Eucharist, the sacrament is not valid,” the NPR quoted the diocese, adding, “The milk would not become the Blood of Jesus Christ.”
Meanwhile, Arango has apologized for his mistake in a statement, saying, “It saddens me to learn that I have performed invalid baptisms throughout my ministry as a priest regularly using an incorrect formula.”
