Band Baaja without Baarat: 10 mobile phones stolen outside Arthur Road jail as SRK fans celebrate bail for Aryan Khan

As many as 10 mobile phones have been stolen near the Arthur Road jail since yesterday as Shah Rukh Khan fans waited with baited breath for the release of Aryan Khan on bail.

There was chaos outside Arthur Road jail ahead of Aryan’s release. There were massive crowds waiting for him to come out after spending weeks in prison. While reports claimed that 10 mobile phones were lost in the crowd, senior Police inspector Pratap Bhosle denied receiving complaints related to mobile thefts or phones going missing.

Meanwhile, fans also gathered outside SRK’s residence ‘Mannat’ with banners that read “Welcome Home Aryan Khan” and “Stay Strong Prince Aryan”.

Aryan was released on bail on Saturday. The Bombay High Court had imposed 14 conditions on his bail. The court specified that even if one condition is violated, NCB would be entitled to apply to the special court for cancellation of bail.

PM Narendra Modi invites Pope Francis to India, to be first papal visit since 1999

0

Pope Francis has been invited to India by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The news of the invitation broke out after the Prime Minister’s meeting with Pope Francis on Saturday. It will be the first papal visit to India since 1999 when Pope John Paul II visited India during the Prime Ministerial tenure of Atal Bihari Vajpayee.

Earlier, Narendra Modi had a meeting with the Pope that went on for a hour. The fight against climate change and poverty were issues that were discussed. Narendra Modi is on a 2-Day visit to Rome to attend the 16th G-20 summit.

Foreign Secretary Harsh Vardhan Shringla had said yesterday, “The Prime Minister will have a separate call. He will be meeting his Holiness on a one-on-one basis. And that could, after a certain period of time, be followed up by delegation-level talks.”

He had added, “I believe tradition is not to have an agenda when you discuss issues with His Holiness. And I think we respect that. I’m sure the issues that will be covered will cover a range of areas of interests in terms of the general global perspectives and issues that are important to all of us.”

Tripura High Court takes cognisance of violence in the state, directs to remove fake news from social media designed to incite violence

0

Following the violence during protests in Tripura against the attacks on the Hindu community in Bangladesh, the Tripura High Court has taken suo motu cognisance of the matter.

The Court has directed the State government to file a reply before November 10 on the preventive steps taken to stop communal disturbances in the state. A 2-Judge Bench of Chief Justice Indrajit Mahanty and Justice S Talapatra appreciated the role played by the print media and the political parties in restoring peace in the State. The Court emphasised that it was concerned about the liberty, life, livelihood and property of all citizens living in the State.

“The State may consider loaning peace committees not only at district levels but also at sub-divisional levels and if necessary at panchayet levels as well and we call upon all political parties to participate fully in such peace process so that confidence of the people of the state can be restored and the underlying strife that exists can be suitably dealt with,” the Court added. It had directed the State to file an affidavit, informing about the various stages of investigation with respect to cases registered in the aftermath of violence on October 26.

The Tripura High Court also asked the State government to take immediate action against the perpetrators of violence and restore the livelihood of those affected by the communal disturbances. The Judges noted the concern raised by the Advocate General of the State about the dissemination of morphed video footage and stoking of communal passion among the residents.

The Court directed the State to take necessary action against social media platforms for failing to remove fabricated and manipulated articles, pictures and video footage. “This Court calls upon the social media platforms to also act responsibly since today. Media has every right, as a part of their activities to publish the truth. It should not be allowed to be used to spread untruth and spread communal passion,” it concluded.

Protests in Tripura against targetting of Hindus in Bangladesh

Tripura witnessed communal disturbances following clashes in Dharmanagar of North Tripura. The Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) had organized a march demanding the protection of minority Hindus in Bangladesh. The march was led by VHP leader Purna Chandra Mandal. According to some media reports, violence took place when the procession reached Rowa village of Dharmanagar. The situation turned worse following stone-pelting.

Some of the media reports claimed that protesters targeted a mosque and vandalized the properties of the minority community, however, the police had clarified that there was no attack on any mosque. Earlier, OpIndia had reported that although some shops belonging to Muslims were vandalised during the protests against attacks on Hindus in Bangladesh, there was no attack on any mosque in Tripura.

Legal notice sent to designer Sabyasachi for using ‘semi-naked models’ to market Mangalsutra: Details

0

Ashutosh Dubey, the legal advisor to BJP Maharashtra, has issued a legal notice to ace designer Sabyasachi for “using semi-naked models for a Mangalsutra collection advertisement.” Dubey took to Twitter to share the notice he has sent to Sabyasachi over its latest ad campaigns that shows models with mangalsutra posing in intimate positions.

“I have issued a Legal notice to Sabyasachi Mukherjee Indian fashion designer regarding using “semi-naked models for a Mangalsutra collection advertisement as Mangalsutra is part of Holy Hindu Marriage. He outraged the holy Hindu Marriage (Mangalsutra).”

Dubey said using “semi-naked models” for an advertisement on Mangalsutra is outrageous and have hurt the sentiments of Hindus. Explaining what the term ‘Mangalsutra’ means, the advocate said the portrayal of the auspicious thread that marks the wedding between two individuals in an obscene way is outrageous and baseless.

Alleging that Sabyasachi outraged the holy Hindu marriage, Dubey said in his notice: “I say that a mangalsutra is a symbol of marriage and the wife is meant to wear it all her life indicating the love and commitment the husband and wife have towards each other and in your ad campaign you have displayed semi-naked couple for a Mangalsutra ad which is outraging Hindu Marriage.”

In his notice, he stated that there is a scientific justification behind wearing a Mangalsutra. He wrote: “I say that in India majority of people associate Mangalsutra with a religious custom. There is also a sound scientific justification behind it. Hindu culture emphasises on wearing a Mangalsutra made of pure gold and it is advised that the Mangalsutra should be hidden behind the inners and your promotional advertisement features heterosexual and same-sex couples posing for pictures wearing the Royal Bengal Mangalsutra…”

Sabyasachi’s new ad campaign for mangalsutra triggers social media outrage as netizens

Sabyasachi recently found himself at the receiving end of the social media ire after it came up with a new ad campaign for the latest Royal Bengal Mangalsutra 1.2. The promotional photoshoot features models wearing the mangalsutra while posing solo or in intimate positions with others.

Source: Instagram

In one of the photos uploaded by the designer’s social media websites as a part of its campaign for ‘Intimate Fine Jewellery’, there is a female model wearing a black brassiere along with the mangalsutra, resting her head on a shirtless male model.

The ad campaign did not sit well with the social media users, who slammed the designer for being creatively bankrupt to use obscenity to market mangalsutra, a mark of a holy union as per Hindu traditions.

While the Indian firecracker industry endures massive loss, China suffers bigger losses in other Diwali products: Details

Even as the Indian firecrackers industry is staring at potentially cataclysmic losses after the Supreme Court of the country upheld the ban on firecrackers earlier this week, the Chinese firecrackers industry is all set to endure starker losses ahead of Diwali and other festivals.

The Confederation of All India Traders (CAIT) has informed that Chinese exporters may suffer losses to the tune of Rs 50,000 crores on account of Indians boycotting the ‘Made in China’ products. A survey conducted by the trade body’s research arm in 20 distribution cities across the country showed that thus Indian traders or importers have placed no orders for Diwali goods, firecrackers, or other items with their Chinese exporters.

“Like previous year, this year too CAIT has given a call of ‘boycott Chinese goods’ and it is certain that China is going to suffer a business loss of about ₹50,000 crores in terms of stoppage of import of Chinese goods by Indian traders,” CAIT stated in the statement on Friday.

CAIT secretary general Praveen Khandelwal spoke about the changes the trade body has seen among the Indian customers. He says Indians across major cities in the country do not seem interested in buying Chinese products. This is evident from the losses Chinese exporters suffered during the Rakhi festival.

Normally, Indian traders import goods worth Rs 70,000 crores from China during the festive season starting from Rakshabandhan to New Year Eve. However, this year, Chinese exporters have endured losses of close to Rs 5,000 crores during the Rakhi festival itself. Then, during the Ganesh Chaturthi, they suffered additional losses to the tune of Rs 500 crores.

The boycott of Chinese products, which took place in greater earnest following the Galwan Valley clashes between the PLA forces and the Indian Army last year, meant that the Indian homegrown industries that usually suffer at the hands of the Chinese exporters are set to gain more profits as consumers turn to them to fulfil their demand.

CAIT says domestic sales are expected to witness a major upsurge during the Diwali season owing to the increase in the number of consumers in the market across the country. The trade body forecasts Rs 2 lakh crores of inflow in the Indian economy through consumer spending during Diwali sales.

Even as CAIT has an optimistic outlook towards the overall growth of the Indian economy during the Diwali season, the domestic firecrackers industry may not be a potent contributor to this expected growth. The negative sentiments against Chinese products might have proved a boon for the struggling domestic firecrackers manufacturers. But the ban on firecrackers by several states, along with the Supreme Court’s imprimatur, has cast a pall over the possibility of increased sales in absence of Chinese goods.

The firecracker manufacturers are staring an abyss of uncertainty as states, including Odisha, Rajasthan, Delhi, Haryana, have ordered partial or complete ban on bursting firecrackers during the Diwali season.

SC defends banning of firecrackers, says only crackers with Barium salts are banned

The Supreme Court on Friday upheld the ban on firecrackers with a caveat that only those with Barium salts are prohibited. A bench of Justices M R Shah and A S Bopanna said however that no authority can be permitted the violation of the directions issued by it and allow banned firecrackers under the guise of celebration.

“Under the guise of enjoyment, you [manufacturers] cannot play with the lives of citizens. We are not against a particular community. We want to send a strong message that we are here for the protection of fundamental rights of citizens,” the Bench said.

Indian firecrackers industry staring at potential losses amidst ban imposed by various states

The judgment has the potential of adversely affecting the firecracker industry in the country, especially the manufacturers based out of the Sivakasi town of Virudhunagar district in Tamil Nadu, which produce over 90 per cent of firecrackers in the country. It is estimated that manufacturers in Sivakasi may be bracing for losses of more than Rs 500 crore this year due to the ban on bursting firecrackers.

As per a report, the production of firecrackers had been 50 per cent as compared to the last year’s production. Firecrackers worth Rs 3,000 crores were manufactured in 2020 while this year, the value of manufactured firecrackers has been close to Rs 1,500 crores only. After the ban, the impact would be around Rs 500 crore losses. Even the pandemic has had negatively impacted the firecrackers industry. The fear of the third Covid-19 wave and cracker ban last year has left many traders hesitating to buy the products.

Sivakasi, the hub of firecracker manufacturers in India has close to 6.5 lakh families, directly or indirectly, dependent on this industry for their livelihood. Once a booming industry, the firecrackers manufacturers are girding for a gloomy Diwali with uncertainty looming large as several states have announced a ban on crackers.

The pandemic and the economic difficulties induced by it had caused many factories to shut down. The ban on crackers has further exacerbated the lives of people in Sivakasi where working in firecrackers factories is the primary source of employment, given that land is not sufficiently arable for agriculture to flourish.

“If the ban continues for the coming years, we wouldn’t have any definite policy to manufacture. We were not prepared for the ban from these states. Firecrackers create pollution in the mind of people and not much in reality,” T Kannan was quoted as saying by the Financial Express. Kannan is the Director at Sree Balaji Fireworks told Financial Express Online, and is also the General Secretary of The Indian Fireworks Manufacturers Association.

JNU vice-chancellor cancels webinar on ‘Indian Occupied Kashmir’, says it questions sovereignty and territorial integrity of our country

On Friday (October 29), the administration of the Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) cancelled a webinar on Jammu and Kashmir after the event referred to the Union territory as ‘Indian occupied Kashmir.’ The webinar was organised by the Centre for Women’s Studies (CWS).

As per reports, the webinar was organised without seeking the permission of the varsity administration. A professor of anthropology and gender studies named Ather Zia was scheduled to speak at the event. The contentious webinar was titled, ‘Gendered Resistance and Fresh Challenges in Post-2019 Kashmir.’ It was accompanied by a notice, which read, “This talk will draw and build upon the ethnography of gendered resistance to Indian occupation in Kashmir.”

The poster of the event, which was scheduled to commence from 8:30 pm on Friday, had gone viral on social media. When netizens objected to it, the JNU administration sprung into action and cancelled the webinar.

In a statement released by JNU Vice-Chancellor M Jagadesh Kumar, he stated, “As soon as it came to our notice that an online webinar titled ‘Gendered Resistance and Fresh Challenges in Post-2019 Kashmir’ was to be organised at 8.30 pm by Centre for Women Studies, the administration immediately instructed the faculty member organising the event to cancel it. The programme was cancelled forthwith.”

He further added, “The faculty member did not seek permission of the administration before planning such an event… This is a highly objectionable and a provocative subject, which questions the sovereignty and territorial integrity of our country. JNU cannot be a platform to this kind of very questionable webinars. The matter is being inquired into.”

In a tweet, the JNU Teachers’ Forum condemned the organisation of such an event and also opposed the ‘anti-national stand’ taken by the Centre of Women’s Studies. “JNU must take action against those involved in organizing it,” it added.

Following the cancellation of the contentious webinar, the Centre for Women’s Studies in JNU put out a one-line statement on Facebook. “The talk by Ather Zia scheduled for today has been cancelled. More information will be provided later,” it added.

Ather Zia is a Professor of anthropology and gender studies at the University of Northern Colorado in Greeley in the USA. She is a columnist at the propaganda news portal, The Caravan and a poet. She had also written a book titled, ‘Resisting Disappearance: Military Occupation and Women’s Activism in Kashmir’. She is also the co-founder of Critical Kashmir Studies and the founder of Kashmir Lit.

Here is why NRI Darshan Singh Dhaliwal and Amrik Singh’s entry denial to India is completely justified

Former cabinet minister Surjit Singh Rakhra’s brother Darshan Singh Dhaliwal has claimed that the authorities at the Indira Gandhi International airport in the national capital denied him entry and deported him to the US on the same flight on the intervening night of October 23-24.

A minister in the previous SAD government, Surjit Singh Rakhra claimed that his brother who arrived in India on a Chicago-Delhi direct flight at 6.30 pm on October 23-24 to attend his niece’s wedding was quizzed by the airport authorities for 5-6 hours before being sent back to the US on the same flight.

Rakhra added that the airport authorities said that this was being done as a punishment for financing langar for agitating farmers at Delhi borders.

Dhaliwal said: “When I asked why I was being denied permission to enter India, the immigration officials asked the same questions that they had been asking earlier too – why I organised the langar at Singhu border and who is paying for it. They said if I wanted to enter India, I should stop funding this langar.’

Darshan Singh Dhaliwal is one of the largest gasoline retailers in the United States. By the year 2004, he owned over 1,000 gas stations in 11 states and had annual sales of $2 billion (Rs 9,000 crore), which was then five times the size of Punjab’s yearly budget. In 1999, Dhaliwal made his entry into electoral politics in Punjab by running his younger brother Surjit Singh Rakhra on a SAD ticket in the Lok Sabha elections.

Punjab Parkash Singh Badal asks PM Modi to ‘intervene & invite’ Darshan Singh Dhaliwal as a goodwill gesture

Reacting to the incident, former Chief Minister of Punjab Parkash Singh Badal Tuesday, wrote a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi to ‘intervene & invite’ Dhaliwal as a goodwill gesture sending a positive signal among the farmers and their supporters.

Parkash Singh Badal claimed in the letter that Dhaliwal was ‘harassed’ for five hours before being denied entry. The authorities verbally stated his constant organising and financing langars for the farmers at Delhi boundaries as the primary cause for his deportation, he continued.

Justifying Dhaliwal’s actions, Badal further added that the ongoing farmers’ agitation is a ‘national movement’ and there is nothing wrong or illegal in helping those taking part in the outcry.

SGPC president Bibi Jagir Kaur slams govt for turning back Darshan Singh Dhaliwal

In Amritsar, Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) president Bibi Jagir Kaur condemned the Indian government for allegedly turning back NRI Sikh Darshan Singh Dhaliwal Rakhra from Delhi airport.

The SGPC president said, “When he came to India from the United States to attend the wedding of his family member, Darshan Singh Dhaliwal was turned away from the airport without any reason.”

“This is major discrimination against the Sikhs, which cannot be tolerated. Darshan Singh Rakhra has been turned away in connection with the farmers’ movement,” she added.

Govt cancels visa of PIOs and OCIs for their role in anti-India protests

It may be noted here that the ministry of exterior affairs has cancelled the long-term visas of about 12 PIOs in Canada and Abroad Residents of India (OCI) cardholders who have been directly or indirectly trying to create chaos in the country by propagating false propaganda against India.

“Many Indians, including students, used offensive language against India during the protests that are in our notice. A dozen such individuals have been blacklisted and they will be repatriated from the Indian airports upon their arrival,” said sources privy to the case.

As part of the crackdown against those individuals endorsing violence in the name of supporting ‘farmer’ protests, besides Dhaliwal, a Spain based businessman Amrik Singh was flown back on his arrival at Delhi airport on October 21.

Amrik Singh while speaking to TOI said that he had been supporting the farmers protest from the very start. He said that he has also participated in protests in support of farmers in Spain. Singh, however, claimed that he did not support any activity which can be called anti-India.

Why one should stop supporting the so-called farmers protest

It is rather unfortunate that by offering financial support, individuals like Dhaliwal and Amrik Singh have been literally encouraging the protestors and rioters disguised as farmers, holding the nation to ransom in the name of protests against the central government’s agricultural laws. Such individuals have not only endorsed violence in the name of supporting ‘farmer’ protests but also fanned anti-national sentiments and fostered chaos by backing false propaganda against India.

Ever since the agitation against the farm laws have begun, these ‘protests’ had taken a violent turn on several occasions. The following are only a few of the countless instances of violence perpetrated by these so-called farmers.

Lynching of Lakhbir Singh at the Kundli border

Though the farmer leaders were quick to distance themselves from the incident, the recent brutal lynching of a Dalit man at the Singhu-Kundli border is a prime example of the nefarious agenda of these ‘farmers’ who have been camping for more months now against the three farm laws.

A badly mutilated corpse of a man, whose hands were chopped and legs cut, was suspended over a police barricade, reportedly by Nihang Sikhs for allegedly committing blasphemy. The victim has been identified as 35-year-old Lakhbir Singh.

Mukesh burnt alive at Tikri border

Prior to this grotesque incident, a 42-year-old Mukesh of Kasar village in Bahadurgarh was burnt alive in a farmers’ tent on the Tikri border by his fellow farmer protestors on June 16, 2021. Villagers had then alleged that Mukesh’s murder was a conspiracy to make him appear as a ‘martyr’ against the farm laws.

Lakhimpur Violence Case

On October 3, a ‘farmer’ mob attacked a BJP convoy with stones and sticks in Lakhimpur Kheri, Uttar Pradesh. Amid the ensuing commotion, a vehicle was seen running over the protestors. Following that the angry mob of protestors had burned two vehicles, dragged the people inside the vehicle and had beaten them to death.

A total of eight people lost their lives in the violence. The incident turned into a major political drama over the past couple of weeks.

Tikri border rape case

A 25-year old woman who came from West Bengal to participate in the ‘farmers’ protest on April 12 was sexually assaulted at the protest site on the Tikri border. The victim who later got infected with the Covid-19 virus died at a private hospital in Bahadurgarh on April 30. Professional protestor Yogendra Yadav, who has been one of the pioneers of the ‘farmers’ protest, had on May 10 admitted to how he knew about the sexual harassment faced by the woman as well as her possible kidnapping by the culprits but turned a blind eye. Eventually, three farmer ‘activists’ were arrested who confessed to the crime.

Farmers turn violent, disrupt Haryana CM Manohar Lal Khattar’s event

On May 16, OpIndia reported how farmers at Hisar, Hayarana got violent and tried to disrupt a Covid-19 facility inauguration event attended by Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar. As per reports, a huge crowd gathered at the site all of a sudden charging at the security forces which resulted in a clash. The Samyukt Kisan Morcha protesting on the border had also backed the protest.

Republic Day violence

And, when it comes to the violent attacks perpetrated by protesting ‘farmers’, the insurrection and unbridled violence that took place on the 26th of January must be recalled.

On January 26, thousands of alleged farmers protesting against the recently enacted agriculture laws barged into Delhi for their tractor rally. They damaged not only public property and raised two flags with the Sikh symbols on the Red Fort but also injured several dozen police personnel.

There were visuals of one of the protestors throwing away Tricolour while trying to hoist the alien flag. The protestors at several places tried to mow down the police personnel with tractors. Police personnel were attacked with lathis, stones, swords and other sharp weapons by the protestors. RTI replies reveal that around 299 police personnel were injured, which is lesser than the actual number as some data was not revealed due to ongoing investigation.

Though as usual the farmer bodies had ‘distanced’ themselves from the rioting mob, they were seen implicitly instigating the ‘protestors’ to be prepared for violence.

Farmer protest ‘toolkit’ reveals global campaign to destabilise India

In fact, after the rampant violence on Republic Day, climate environmentalist Greta Thunberg inadvertently revealed the sinister global campaign against India after she shared a ‘Toolkit’ for those who want to support the ongoing ‘farmer protests’ in the country.

At first glance, the document clarified that it was not an organic wave of support but well-planned propaganda against the Indian government.

The document shared by Greta Thunberg listed a series of actions that people across the world could take to support the ‘farmer protests’ and also listed actions that had been undertaken. The document also made it clear that the global attempts to incite unrest in India had begun prior to the Republic Day riots.

In the ‘toolkit’, several names were mentioned as reliable sources – some were media outlets, others, journalists and propagandists. The names of Indian media houses and journalists included The Wire, The Scroll, The NewsLaundry, AltNews, Faye D Souza and several other propagandists who were extending support to the rioters of 26th January and also, spreading fake news regarding the farm laws passed by the Modi government.

OpIndia had extensively reported on how, per the documents leaked by Greta Thunberg, the tweets by Rihanna and Greta were in no way spontaneous and had been planned by anti-India propagandists well in advance. We had also reported the violent antecedents of Greta Thunberg and the organisations she is associated with, that lent support to the violent protests in India.

Tripura: Islamists vandalise Kali temple, NSUI and TMCP members stab ABVP worker in Kailashahar

On Friday (October 29), a Hindu Kali temple was attacked by a Muslim mob in Kailashahar in the Unakoti district of Tripura. The development comes amidst the deteriorating law and order situation over the false rumours of mosques being burnt in the State.

As per reports, a large Muslim mob ambushed the Kali temple at around 4 pm in the afternoon. They broke the idol and vandalised the temple. In a separate incident, ABVP worker Shibaji Sengupta was attacked by members of the NSUI and the Trinamool Chhatra Parishad. He sustained serious injuries and was rushed to the hospital. His condition is said to be stable now.

Despite repeated appeals to maintain calm and communal harmony, about 1100 mosques in Tripura gave calls to incite Muslims after the Friday prayers. It is believed that the attack on the Kali temple was a manifestation of such intolerance. The incident has triggered a situation of chaos and unrest in the area. The district administration has imposed CrPC Section 144 with immediate effect to prevent any untoward situation. As such, an assembly of more than 5 people is not permitted in Kailashahar. The curfew will remain in place till October 31 evening.

While quoting Unakoti police, ANI reported, “Section 144 imposed in Laxmipur & Kailashahar for breach of peace in 2 separate incidents. Unknown miscreants vandalised Kali temple in Laxmipur, & attack on an ABVP leader by NSUI & Trinamool Chhatra Parishad workers in Kailashahar, yesterday.” According to UK Chakma, the District Magistrate of Kailashahar, the accused involved in the stabbing incident were arrested.

The official Twitter handle of ABVP Tripura confirmed that the victim Shivaji Sengupta is the Secretary of the Kailashahar Nagar unit of the organisation. It added that the victim was being treated at the AGMC & GBP Hospital.

Indian Express journalist Samriddhi K Sakunia had shared a video of the injured ABVP worker, who was seen lying on a stretcher and undergoing medical attention.

Following the vandalism of the Kali temple and attack on the ABVP worker, Samriddhi claimed that one Madrassa teacher named Afroz Ali was attacked by unidentified miscreants. She alleged that the shop of one Akbar Ali was burnt down in the Paiturbazar area of Kailasahar, which triggered the act of vandalism at the Kali mandir.

TV9 Bharatvarsh had reported that the ABVP leader was attacked by activists of NSUI and Trinamool Chhatra Parishad. This prompted the ABVP supporters to surround the police station and demand immediate action.

Protests in Tripura against Bangladesh violence against Hindus

Tripura witnessed communal disturbances following clashes in Dharmanagar of North Tripura. The Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) had organized a march demanding the protection of minority Hindus in Bangladesh. The march was led by VHP leader Purna Chandra Mandal. According to some media reports, violence took place when the procession reached Rowa village of Dharmanagar. The situation turned worse following stone-pelting.

Some of the media reports claimed that protesters targeted a mosque and vandalized the properties of the minority community. Earlier, OpIndia had reported that although some shops belonging to Muslims were vandalised during the protests against attacks on Hindus in Bangladesh, there was no attack on any mosque in Tripura. A large crowd of Muslims had gathered at the Mosque in Rowa in Panisagar, and therefore there was no attack on it.

SIT recovers stick used to lynch BJP workers during Lakhimpur Kheri violence by protesting ‘farmers’: Details

0

The Special Investigation Team (SIT) of Uttar Pradesh police is reported to have recovered the murder weapon on Friday, used to lynch two local BJP workers and a driver of an SUV during Lakhimpur Kheri violence at Tikunia on October 3. The police recovered the stick during the search following information revealed by Gurvinder Singh (26) who is among the accused of lynching BJP workers and the driver.

Eight people had died when the farmers’ protest turned violent on 3rd October. The deceased included four farmers, a journalist, two BJP workers and the driver of SUV Mahindra Thar, owned by Union Minister of State for Home Ajay Mishra. Deceased BJP workers were identified as Shubham Mishra and Shyam Sundar Nishad. The deceased driver Hariom Mishra was also associated with the BJP as a worker.

Hence, three BJP workers were lynched by farmers who were protesting against three farming laws proposed by the Centre. However, the Uttar Pradesh police arrested Ajay Mishra’s son Ashish Mishra on the charge of leading a convoy that hit the farmers, killing four farmers and a journalist. But the minister claimed that his son was neither at the spot nor was he part of any convoy. It was widely alleged that BJP workers were attacked unprovoked and the mob was quite violent.

Gurvinder Singh said that he was among the protesters who attacked and killed them. He was arrested along with another accused Vichitra Singh earlier. Gurvinder Singh is a resident of Mokramau Aliganj in Lakhimpur Kheri district whereas Vichitra Singh is a resident of Bheera in the same district. The SIT requested the court for his police custody to recover the stick which he had allegedly used to kill the victims. The court granted three days of police custody starting from the morning of October 28. Gurvinder was taken to the crime spot on Friday morning and the crime scene was recreated to understand the sequence of the crime.

Reportedly, Gurvinder Singh was arrested on the basis of many visuals and graphics SIT had gathered during the course of the investigation. Notably, the SIT had released six photographs of suspects who were alleged to have killed three BJP workers. They are seen standing close to a burning SUV with sticks and black flags. It seems that the SIT releasing pictures of suspects has worked in identifying the accused persons responsible for the killing of BJP workers. According to the media reports SIT has got some inputs about one more accused who was part of this killing.

Islamic organisation from Indonesia declares cryptocurrency ‘Haraam’ under Sharia law

0

The crypto market is thriving and booming in Indonesia but despite that, the East Java branch of the Indonesian Islamic organisation Nahdlatul Ulama (NU) has deemed cryptocurrency Haraam or “forbidden” under Islamic law (Sharia law)

The decision of the Islamic organisation comes after a discussion by the East Java brach of Indonesian Islamic Organisation Nahdlatul Ulama, representatives of the Islamic community and also, representatives of the Islamic boarding schools.

Reportedly, the Islamic organisation has deemed crypto as ‘haraam’ because of the chances of fraud and the volatility of the market. Essentially, due to the volatility of the market, several Islamic preachers consider investment in crypto as an act of gambling and therefore, consider it Haraam for those who practise Islam.

Kiai Azizi Chasbullah, chairman of the East Java Nahdlatul Ulama branch, was quoted in a statement published on their website.

“The participants of the bahtsul masail have the view that although the government recognises cryptocurrency as a commodity, it cannot be legalised under Islamic sharia law,” he said.

Interestingly, while the Islamic organisation has deemed crypto haraam, Indonesia, with one of the largest Muslim populations, is one of the fastest growing markets for crypto. According to reports, Indonesia is the ‘crypto hotspot’ of 2021 and saw the second largest spike in terms of interest in crypto.

It had an estimated 7.3m crypto owners and falls in the middle of countries analysed concerning the percentage of the population owning crypto, showing there’s plenty more scope for growth.

In September, the Minister of Trade of Indonesia, Muhammad Lutfi, told local media that Indonesia didn’t plan to follow China and impose a ban on cryptocurrency transactions, mining or trading.
