After Turkish first lady trolled for carrying luxury French bag amid Erdoğan’s call to boycott French products, pro-govt media claims she was carrying a fake

Days after old photos of the wife of Turkish president carrying a luxury French handbag had reappeared on social media, Turkish media her come to her defence to claim that she was carrying a fake bag. Emine Erdoğan had to face massive criticising for sporting a French product when her husband Erdoğan had called for boycott of all French proudcts.

France has been at the target of the Muslim world of late since French President Emmanuel Macron refused to condemn the caricature of Prophet Mohammad and called out radical Islamist ideology. Turkey has been leading the Muslim world in condemning France and the French President Macron. Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan had called on Muslims to boycott French products in opposition to France’s tough stance on radical Islam. However, no one except Pakistanis took his call for the boycott of French products seriously, as his own wife, the Turkish First Lady Emine Erdoğan was spotted carrying an expensive luxurious $50,000 French-made handbag.

Hermes is a high fashion luxury goods manufacturer based in France. The Hermès Kelly bag spotted with the Turkish first lady is made from exotic alligator skin, and is fitted with gold hardware.

After the photograph of Emine Erdoğan carrying a $50000 Hermès bag re-appeared, people began to call out Turkish First Lady on social media for carrying French-made handbag despite the Turkish President’s call for a boycott of French products. The photo had originally earlier appeared a few months ago. The first lade was criticised for carrying such an expensive bag last year also.

People questioned whether Erdoğan’s wife would be giving up her designer bags that cost more than an average Turkish citizen’s annual income.

Some said that the boycott of French products was ‘nice’ as long as it did not affect the high-end lifestyle of the Presidency.

Taking a dig at the Turkish First Lady, some social media users said the perhaps she thought that buying such an expensive bag was an investment.

Opposition leader of Republican People’s Party (CHP), Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu suggested her to burn her $50,000 French-made bag as part of the boycott against France.

Following the backlash on social media, a Turkish journalist Hande Firat claimed that she never spent such huge amounts on her bags and that she was carrying a fake version of the original Hermès bag. In an article published on Turkish newspaper Hürriyet, the journalist known as govt propagandist said that the first lady only purchases imitation products of luxury brands. Quoting sources in the first family, Hande Firat said, “She takes care not to use original branded bags. Instead of originals, she buys fake or imitations.”

However, this claim by the pro-govt journalist seems questionable, as the Turkish president is known live a lavish life. The first family lives in the newly built presidential palace which has 1150 rooms. It is ironical that to avoid embarrassment, the Turkish govt is having to call a luxury expensive bag as a fake.

Emine Erdogan is known to have a preference for luxury products, and the Turkish journalists are forbidden from talking about it. When the photo first appeared in June this year, journalist Ender İmrek was booked by police for criticising the first lady. The journalist was accused of insulting the President’s wife. He was accused of “not attributing nice qualities to her”, which means not praising the first lady was also deemed a crime.

Freedom of Press in Turkey

According to reports, Turkey is one of the worst-ranked countries for media freedom in the world and it also has the most jailed journalists in the world. Around 90 per cent of media are reportedly under government control in the country. The country was ranked 157th out of 180 countries by Reporters Without Borders on World Press Freedom Index 2019 for having highest number of journalists in jail.

Kangana Ranaut accuses pro-AAP vlogger Dhruv Rathee of charging Rs 60 lakh to ‘lie openly’ in his video about BMC notice to her

On Saturday, creative film director Eray Cather accused a ‘major Youtuber’ of taking a large sum of money for doing a hitjob on actress Kangana Ranaut, Republic TV Editor-in-Chief Arnab Goswami and the family of the deceased actor Sushant Singh Rajput. While Eray had not named anyone, pro-APP Youtuber Dhruv Rathee asumed it was about him, and denied the allegations, after which Kangana Ranaut responded saying that Dhruv was paid ₹60 lakhs to make a video on her.

Cather alleged that the said that the ‘Youtuber’ has more than 4 million subscribers and was paid a whopping ₹35 lacs for making a video alleging the role of Sushant Singh Rajput’s family in his death. The film director added, “Deadline given to him is 1-2 weeks. The same YouTuber was earlier hired to target Kangana & Arnab…His usual fee is 30-40 lac Rs per video. For Kangana and Arnab he was paid 35 lac Rs for each video. More details awaited.”

Dhruv Rathee cries foul although allegations not directed at him

It is important to note that Eray Cather had not named the Youtuber in his Twitter thread. However, for reasons best known to him, Pro-AAP vlogger and a serial propagandist Dhruv Rathee ‘assumed’ the tweet to be about him. He asked, “Lol, is this bullsh*t fake news referring to me?”

Rathee, who coincidentally has 4.5 million subscribers on Youtube, went on an unsolicited rant to clarify that he did not receive any money for making videos. “First of all, no one paid me any money to make Kangana video. Secondly, I’m not planning to make any video on SSR. And thirdly, I really wish my sponsoring fees was 30 Lakh per video, how rich would I be,” the pro-AAP vlogger emphasised.

Eray Cather points out Dhruv Rathee’s admission of guilt

Although he wasn’t named, Dhruv Rathee felt the need to clarify on the controversy, thereby, indirectly confirming the veracity of the allegations. Eray Cather subsequently pointed this out and said that he was glad that Rathee had dropped the idea of making the video on Sushant Singh Rajput.

The creative film director wrote, “One: I’ve not named anyone. If you feel it’s you, you’re welcome. Two: About your fees & deals, @dhruv_rathee — I will definitely talk about it, but my focus is not that as of now. So wait for a while. Three: Am glad you dropped the vid, or not planning now. You answered it.”

Kangana Ranaut threatens legal action against Dhruv Rathee for peddling fake news

A day after the controversy arose, actress Kangana Ranaut slammed Dhruv Rathee for peddling fake news against her, following the BMC controversy. While threatening to take legal action against the pro-AAP vlogger, she emphasised, “Ha ha well-done Eray Cather, of course, this dimwit gets money to make fake videos. I can get him behind bars for lying about BMC notice for my house in his video for which he got paid 60 lakhs. Why will anyone lie openly about legal matters unless not given government support or money?”

Dhruv Rathee is yet to respond to the allegations of fake news levelled against him by the actress.

Dhruv Rathee is a serial fake news peddler

There have been several incidents when the Pro-AAP blogger Dhruv Rathee has revealed himself to be a serial fake news peddler who, for some unknown reason, makes videos about everything under the sun. He had earlier shared videos hiding crucial details and facts about the Delhi riots. He had also done dubious ‘fact-checks’ which usually end up exposing himself further. Not just Rathee, but some dubious individuals hosted in his video blogs have been also found to be fake news peddlers.

In 2019, Rathee had claimed that PM Modi has ‘sold’ 1,70,000 acres of dense forest in Chhattisgarh to the Adani Group. After the Adani Group debunked his claim and stated that they would initiate legal proceedings if Rathee does not take down his “malicious and incorrect” claim, Rathee promptly deleted the Tweet.

If a rape victim has any self-esteem she will end her life, says Kerala Congress chief Mulappally Ramachandran

Kerala Congress President Mullappally Ramachandran has stoked a massive controversy after he was caught making vile comments against women. Speaking at a protest meeting organised by the Congress party to mark the UDF ‘betrayal day’ in Thiruvananthapuram, the Congress leader said that if a rape victim has any self-esteem she will either end her life by suicide or make sure that she will try not to be sexually assaulted again.

The former Congress MP was referring to the solar case accused, maintained that Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan cannot escape by bringing in a sex worker.

“Every day, this woman would wake up saying she has been raped by someone. The LDF has brought a sex worker as a desperate attempt against the UDF and made her tell tales. Chief Minister, this game will not work, this blackmailing will not work. One can understand when a woman is raped once. But she says she is repeatedly assaulted. A woman with self-respect will either die after she is raped once or will try not to be sexually assaulted again” Mullappally said reportedly.

Ramachandran was speaking at a protest outside Secretariat on Kerala formation day. After making vile comments, the Congress leader realised that his comments would snowball into a major controversy and apologised before the same crowd.

“My outburst was against the LDF Government and it was not my intention to hurt women’s sentiments. I am honestly apologizing for my defamatory comments,” said Mullappally.

The KPCC chief’s remarks have now met with sharp criticism after Kerala Women’s Commission chairperson MC Josephine and state health minister K K Shailaja slammed him for making such cheap comments.

Meanwhile, Kerala women panel chief MC Josephine said that the Kerala Women’s Commission would take action against the KPCC president.

“Mullapally’s comments cannot be tolerated. Rape is the most extreme form of attack a man can do to a woman and is highly condemnable. I vehemently disagree with the comments made by Mullappally. I also urge all the leaders to refrain from making such derogatory comments against women”, Josephine said.

Mullappally Ramachandran has a history of making such anti-women remarks. Earlier this year, he had termed the health minister KK Shailaja as ‘COVID Rani’ and even went on to refer to her as ‘Nipah Rajkumari’ inviting sharp criticism from the ruling government.

After the gruesome murder of a 21-year old college student named Nikita Tomar in broad daylight due to attempted love jihad in Mewat, the Haryana government is mulling over introducing a law to deal with the cases of love jihad. State Home Minister Anil Vij tweeted today informing about the government’s plan.

Haryana Chief Minister ML Khattar said that the Ballabhgarh killing was being linked to love jihad and that both the central and the state government are looking into the matter. He said that the government was considering legal provisions to ensure that the culprit did not escape and not innocent was punished. The CM hinted that the union government is also considering legal action against cases of love jihad.

Yogi government to introduce law against Love Jihad

Issuing a stern warning to miscreants indulging in love jihad, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath said that he would be enacting a law to curb love jihad. “Allahabad HC said religious conversion isn’t necessary for marriage. Govt will also work to curb ‘Love-Jihad’, we’ll make a law. I warn those who conceal identity & play with our sisters’ respect, if you don’t mend your ways your ‘Ram Naam satya’ journey will begin,” he said.

Ballabhgarh love jihad

A CCTV footage had shown how two assailants had shot the 21-year-old student in broad daylight outside the Aggarwal college in Ballabgarh, Faridabad. The footage that went viral on social media, the assailant could be seen stepping out of a car and pulling out a revolver. Nikita is seen struggling to escape and manages to flee for a brief moment before the accused grabs her again. During the whole struggle the accused shoots her at the point-blank range. She was rushed to nearby hospital where she was declared dead.

Nikita’s family had alleged that the accused Tauseef and well his mother forced her to convert to Islam. In 2018, Tauseef had reportedly abducted Nikita after which an FIR was filed. However, the matter was resolved through a panchayat.

Tauseef who was nabbed by police was sent to 14-day judicial custody on October 30 after he confessed his crime. Tauseef comes from an influential family of politicians belonging to Congress party. He had requested to the court through his counsel to be shifted to Bhondsi jail in Gurugram from the local district jail in which he is currently lodged citing safety concerns. His plea was declined by the court.

Cricketer Yuvraj Singh trolls Rohit Sharma and Rishabh Pant for gaining weight

Former Indian cricketer Yuvraj Singh on Sunday trolled cricketers Rohit Sharma and Rishabh Pant for putting on weight during the lockdown. Mumbai Indians put up a tweet on the ‘six-hitting competition’ between Rohit Sharma and Rishabh Pant, two of the finest batsmen.

In response to the same, Yuvraj Singh could not resist himself from poking jokes at the two cricketers having put on a little weight in past few months.

Singh replied how rather than the ‘six-hitting competition’, the two cricketers appear to be discussing the fat percentage on their cheeks. Few minutes later he followed up the tweet by saying that Rohit Sharma appears to be telling Rishabh Pant that Pant’s cheeks are fatter than his.

Earlier, at the beginning of Indian Premiere League, many cricketers were fat-shamed for having a ‘healthy’ waistline. Fans thought the cricketers looked out of shape as they did not really appear fit.

UP: Jalaun Congress district president beaten in public for teasing women, video goes viral

0

A video reportedly of Jalaun Congress party president Anuj is going viral on social media in which he is seen being thrashed by two women whom he allegedly teased. The viral video was shared by independent journalist Ranvijay Singh on Twitter today.

In the video, the Congress district president can be seen begging and apologising to the two women who grabbed him by the collar and beat him up. Anuj was begging the women to let him go and promising them that he would not repeat the mistake. “Beta, chhod do, beta chhod do..” (Let me go…let me go…), Anuj can be heard requesting the women as they beat him up. One of the women asked Anuj to refer to her as sister and asked him whether he would abuse them again. “Ab kabhi gali doge?” (Will you abuse again?), one of the woman asked Anuj to which he replied, “Behen kabhi nahi” (Will never do that again sister.) He then touched their feet asking for forgiveness calling them sister and daughter.

A snippet from the video was posted on Twitter by Pankaj Jha, Editor at ABP News, with another picture in which Anuj can be seen standing next to Congress’s UP face Priyanka Gandhi Vadra.

It is ironical, if the allegations against Anuj are true, that he is given space in Congress party while Priyanka Gandhi Vadra had scored political points from the death of Hathras victim in the name of justice for women.

RJD leader Tej Pratap Yadav shifts from Mahua to Hasanpur constituency to avoid possible clash with his estranged wife Aishwarya Rai

Ever since the fallout of Tej Pratap Yadav and his wife Aishwarya Rai, life has become tough for the elder son of RJD supremo Lalu Prasad Yadav. A marriage that ended within 6 months on a bitter note has now given way for political tug of war between Yadav and Rai. Tej Pratap Yadav won the Assembly elections from the Mahua constituency in Bihar In 2015 and was handed over the charge as the Health Minister and the Environment Minister. He remained in power until July 2017, when the JD(U) withdrew its support to the coalition government.

Talks of Aishwarya Rai contesting from Mahua constituency

In the ongoing Bihar elections, Yadav has decided to contest from the Hasanpur constituency in Samastipur district as RJD deemed it to be a safe seat. This is despite the fact that a formidable JDU candidate, Raj Kumar Rai, has been contesting from the seat. It is believed that the change of heart happened after talks about his estranged wife Aishwarya contesting from the Mahua seat. The Mahua constituency is close to the Parsa assembly segment, which is considered a stronghold of his father-in-law Chandrika Roy. Aishwarya was seen reaching out to people in the Parsa constituency and narrating the ‘ill-treatment’ meted out by Yadav’s family. She had also sought justice for her ordeal.

Tej Pratap Yadav up against strong rival candidates in Hasanpur constituency

Even though Hasanpur constituency is dominated by the Yadav community, Tej Pratap Yadav’s opponent Raj Kumar Rai also belongs to the same caste. Rai has been elected two times from the same constituency since 2010. The RJD candidate is also up against Janadhikar Party candidate Pappu Yadav alias Rahesh Ranjan, who has been actively campaigning from the same seat.

The RJD has long relied upon the Yadav and Muslim vote bank, who constitute 65,000 and 25,000 voters respectively. At the same time, the Upper-caste voters, Kushwahas, Paswans and Extremely Backward Castes constitute around 20000, 16000, 18000 and 13000 voters respectively. In both 2010 and 2015 Assembly elections, Muslims and Yadavs voted for Raj Kumar Rai but this time a chunk of the votes may shift to RJD. As such, the other castes will play a major role in deciding the election outcome.

War of words between Tej Pratap Yadav and Raj Kumar Rai

Tej Pratap Yadav has been actively campaigning, ahead of the upcoming 2020 Bihar elections, often cycling, playing the flute, and playing cricket with youngsters and eating ‘Litthi-Chokha’ to lure voters towards the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD). Hitting out at his rival JD(U) candidate, Yadav alleged, “No development work has been done in this constituency as is evident from the broken roads. I have come to develop it…I did a lot of development work in Mahua and on people’s demand have come to Hasanpur to do so in the next five years.”

“He (Tej Pratap) knows nothing about Hasanpur. He even does not know the roads in the area and has to move around with the help of locals. Those who don’t know anything about the area what kind of development they can do here?” Raj Kumar rai hit back.

Troubled marriage of Tej Pratap Yadav and Aishwarya Rai

Tej Pratap Yadav and Aishwarya Rai got married in May 2018. But the couple filed for a divorce a few months after the wedding. In December last year, Aishwarya and Rabri Devi, her mother-in-law accused each other of torture and harassment. She also accused her sister in law Misa Bharti and Tej Pratap of harassing and assaulting her. Tej Pratap Yadav has claimed that he was made a scapegoat for the political benefits of his family members.

The Muslim Rashtriya Manch had faced some resistance earlier in the year when it had organised an event in support of the Citizenship Amendment Act. Then, their event was disrupted by anti-CAA protesters who raised slogans against the CAA and the NRC. The MRM is said to have a significant following in Hyderabad and parts of Telangana.

Protests have erupted all over the Muslim world after French President Emmanuel Macron defended the right of people to draw cartoons of the prophet of Islam. India was no exception. In Bhopal, a Congress leader organised a protest against Macron’s ‘Islamophobia’. Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) student leader Farhan Zuberi threatened to behead those who insulted Islam and was booked for it.
