Cricket World Cup Preview – India v New Zealand semi-finals

After nearly 6 weeks of the Cricket World Cup, we are finally in the endgame now with India taking on New Zealand in the first of the two semifinals at Old Trafford.

While Indian captain Virat Kohli refused to name his preferred opponent ahead of the semifinal, New Zealand is widely seen as the easier draw at this stage. Since beating the West Indies in a thriller, New Zealand have lost 3 games in a row, and they have managed to edge through on the back of better Net Run Rate than Pakistan.

Kane Williamson has been expectedly among runs (an average of 96.20 in the group stage), but rest of the top order hasn’t really fired throughout the competition. Martin Guptill has been struggling for runs since the unbeaten half century in the first game against Sri Lanka and his partners, Munro and Nicholls, haven’t fired either. Ross Taylor has scored couple of valuable half centuries but an average of 37 in the competition with a strike rate of 75 shows he is yet to hit the form that made him the most prolific batsman behind Kohli since the 2015 World Cup.

All that has meant that the responsibility for run scoring has fallen on Williamson’s shoulders in every game and while he has responded well, he would appreciate a little help from senior pros like Guptill and Ross Taylor in this high stakes game. Their lower middle order of Neesham and Colin de Grandhomme have been chipping in with useful runs, and can provide a big finish to the innings if the top order provides them with a good base.

No such problem with New Zealand’s bowling though with Ferguson, Boult, Henry, Neesham all among wickets. Ferguson missed the game against England due to an injury but he is back to full fitness and his extra pace during the middle overs can trouble the Indian batsmen. On an Old Trafford surface expected to be full of runs, wickets through the middle overs can be critical to stopping India below 300 and Ferguson is the man to provide them.

India has no problems at the top of the order unlike their opponents today. Rohit Sharma has been in scintillating form hitting 5 centuries in the group stage. KL Rahul, coming in for injured Shikhar Dhawan at the top of the order, has been among runs, even if he hasn’t looked as fluent as Rohit. Virat Kohli has looked imperious as usual, hitting 5 half centuries in his 8 innings so far.

Indian problems have been in the middle order for a while now and that will be under scrutiny again today. Whether they go for Kedar Jadhav at 6 to get the cushion of an extra bowler, or stick with Dinesh Karthik who played last 2 games remains to be seen. Pant and Dhoni look pretty secure at 4 and 5 for now.

Indian bowling has been led superbly by Jasprit Bumrah but who will open the bowling with him will be interesting. Shami has picked up lots of wickets in his limited opportunities but has leaked a lot of runs at the death and Bhuvi looked a little off color against Bangladesh after his return from injury. Which one of the two will partner Bumrah or will India spring a surprise by playing all 3 and leave out an out of form Kuldeep remains to be seen.

The venue

Old Trafford has been a bat first, bat big venue for the past few years with average first innings score well over 300. India scored 336 against Pakistan at the same venue earlier in the tournament and any team batting first will be looking for a score in the same region. There is a threat of rain around and DLS may favour the team chasing but on the big stage, in a World Cup semifinal, on a flat wicket, expect the captain to bat first after winning the toss.

Virat Kohli says he will remind Kane Williamson of U19 World Cup semi-final played in 2008

Wayback in 2008, two young batsmen, who also happened to be the captain of their respective teams, Virat Kohli and Kane Williamson were battling against each other in the under 19 World Cup semi-final.

Eleven years later, Virat Kohli and Kane Williamson will be playing against each other in another World Cup semi-final, on a different venue. The three players from the New Zealand team who featured in the U-19 World Cup will also be part of their senior side of the World Cup are Kane Williamson, Trent Boult, and Tim Southee. For India, Virat Kohli and Ravindra Jadeja are the two players who will be part of both the U-19 2008 semi and World Cup 2019 semi squads.

A Twitter thread on this co-incidence went viral, and even Virat Kohli mentioned this in the pre-match press conference.

Speaking to media, Kohli said, “I’m sure he remembers. When we meet tomorrow, I’ll remind him. It’s quite nice to captain the senior team in a World Cup from U19. There are a lot of players from our batch and their batch, and from other teams who have made it to the national team. It feels good.” He said that neither he nor Williamson could have anticipated this would happen. “I got Kane’s wicket, did I?. I don’t know if that can happen again now,” he added.

Kane Williamson had a similar reaction when he was reminded of their U19 clash in 2008, “Oh dear, tell me how. He used to be an all-rounder I think back in the day, but hasn’t bowled as much recently.”

Indian innings highlight from U-19 World Cup Semi-final

The U19 World Cup semi-final was played on February 27, 2008, in Kualalampur. Kane won the toss and decided to bat first in the rain-affected match. New Zealand scored 205 in their 50 overs. Kane who played as an opener scored 37 off 80 balls and the wicket-keeper of Kohli’s delivery stumped him. Tim Southee scored 11 runs at number 5, while Boult didn’t get a chance to bat. Ravindra Jadeja took a wicket in his six overs spell in which he gave 21 runs.

India got a target of 191 runs to chase in 43 overs through the Duckworth-lewis method due to rain. Virat Kohli scored 43 runs in the chase and was caught by none other than Kane Williamson. Kohli also added 84 vital runs with wicket-keeper Goswami which helped the team to chase the target successfully in 41.3 overs. Jadeja scored one run for the team. Southee took four wickets while Boult took 1. Virat Kohli was adjudged man of the match for his 43 runs and two wickets.

India plays against New Zealand today at Old Trafford Cricket Ground.

Serial abuser Ajaz Khan responds to Payal Rahtogi saying Muslims will explode like volcano and entire world will become Islamic

In a video uploaded by failed actor and serial abuser Ajaz Khan, the hardcore Islamist menacingly threatened actor Payal Rohatgi that one day, the entire world will become Muslim.

Ajaz Khan was responding to the videos uploaded by actor Payal Rohatgi in which she had raised alarms about Muslims effecting the demographic change in India by giving birth to multiple children. Payal Rohatgi, a maverick, has been pretty vocal in voicing concerns for the majority of the country and has routinely questioned regressive practices followed by Muslims.

In a misogynist attack against Payal, Ajaz Khan said, “Payal Rohatgi is a C grade actor. You can google all the movies in which Payal has acted. They were all C-grade movies. She has called actor Shabana Azmi a prostitute. She should go and have a look at the C-grade movies she did before calling Shabana Azmi a prostitute. Why does she keep spewing venom for Muslims? She is a woman, she should behave like one.”

Continuing his diatribe against Payal, the former Bigg Boss contestant said, “Today only 56 countries are Islamic. According to our holy book Quran, the entire world will embrace Islam one day. Inshaallah.” In a foreboding tone, Ajaz Khan asserted that Muslims are patiently enduring all the wrongs inflicted upon them. “We are patiently enduring all the inequities meted out on us. “One day when we will erupt like a volcano, the entire world will say ‘There is no God but Allah Muhammad is the messenger of Allah’,” Ajaz said.

Ajaz holds a dim view of democracy which was evident from the fact that he once tweeted that he would choose the Quran over the constitution. He was arrested by Anti-Narcotics Cell of Navi Mumbai for possessing drugs. He later got out on bail. He was arrested in 2016 too for sending lewd and vulgar messages to a hair stylist. In the past too, Ajaz Khan has indulged in promoting hate speech through his Facebook account which could disturb the communal harmony in the country.

Raj Thackeray demands the EC to conduct upcoming Maharashtra Assembly polls using ballot papers, meets Sonia Gandhi

Continuing to flog a dead horse, Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) Chief Raj Thackeray today met the Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Sunil Arora demanding that the Maharashtra Assembly elections should be conducted through ballot papers in place of Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs). The elections are scheduled to be held later this year.

Thackeray submitted a five-page letter to the CEC claiming that people’s faith in the Election Commission has declined. “Many individuals and organisations have communicated to me their immense dissatisfaction with the manner in which elections are being conducted in the last few years and have raised numerous questions regarding EVMs” Thackeray stated in his letter.

“Our concerns are at two levels, first – regarding EVMs and their use, and second – regarding Lok Sabha 2019 election process”, the letter stated. Thackeray alleged that in the 2019 Lok Sabha Elections there are discrepancies in the votes cast and the votes counted in several constituencies. He said that the number of votes counted was higher than the number of votes cast.

Speaking to the media after the meeting, Thackeray said that people have doubts in their minds that the votes cast by them do not go to their chosen candidates. “There are doubts in the minds of voters that the votes they cast do not go to their chosen candidates. In such a scenario, the Election Commission should switch back to paper ballots and conduct the Maharashtra state polls through it. We strongly feel that the EVMs can be tampered with”, he said.

Expressing a lack of trust on the EC, Thackeray said that he had zero expectations from the Election Commission. “However, from the reactions of the elections officials, they seemed disinterested on such a serious issue. I have zero expectations from them” he added.

Thackeray also met United Progressive Alliance (UPA) Chairperson Sonia Gandhi in New Delhi. They talked about EVM among other things, according to reports.

Railway sources deny reports that production of Vande Bharat Express has stopped

On July 7th, The Hindu newspaper published a sensational news claiming that the production of Vande Bharat Express train has come to a grinding halt. The news claimed the production of Train 18 has stopped at the Integral Coach Factory in Chennai due to violation of some specifications, and it has been sent back to the drawing board. It also said that vigilance officials have taken away hundreds of files relating to the production of Train 18 from ICF, as it is alleged that the train has dozens of deviations from the specifications prescribed by Research Designs and Standards Organisation (RDSO). This news by The Hindu was later reproduced by other media houses like Firstpost.

But according to sources in Railway ministry, there is no truth in the news that work on making the train has stopped, and the production of Vande Bharat train sets is right on track. Indian Railways is planning to produce 40 rakes in the next 3 years by 2021-22 and work is going on full fledge to achieve it. Officials say that Indian Railways is also planning to upgrade the Vande Bharat train sets with more advanced state-of-the-art features.

Indian Railways has already made several changes in the second rake of Vande Bharat Express as per the suggestions received from the passengers. The toilet facility is markedly improved and additional pantry space has been provided on the suggestion of the Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC), said the sources. Cattle guard has also been strengthened to reduce damage due to cattle being run over. Even window glasses have also changed to prevent it from stone-pelting instances.

The first rake of Train 18 was inaugurated in February this year and it is running between Delhi and Varanasi. The next Vande Bharat is likely to run between New Delhi and Katra which will be a boon for Vaishno Devi pilgrims. Bangalore-Hyderabad, Mumbai-Ahmedabad and Kolkata-Patna are also identified as possible routes for Vande Bharat Express.

In fact, the trial for the second rake of the train was successfully completed just 4 days ago on 4th July on the Delhi-Kanpur route. This train has many improvements over the first rake, like a more sturdy nose, adjustable seats, improved facilities in the washroom etc. The second rake was sent to Delhi from Chennai in May this year, and extensive operational tests were done on it before conducting the trial run this month.

Indian Railways showed a glimpse of its futuristic vision by introducing Vande Bharat Express, the semi-high speed train. It has been running on full occupancy since its launch, creating punctuality records and providing the passengers with much better travel experience by its modern design and state-of-the-art amenities.

In May 2019, this marvel of Indian Railways successfully completed its one lakh kilometre run time without missing a single trip. It is speculated that this train has also attracted passengers who earlier avoided travelling by trains.

All of this was possible because of its state-of-the-art technology used in its making and advanced features with international look and feel. The main objectives of this train were low cost, safety and high speed. All these objectives were kept in mind while finalising the specifications and technology for making of the Vande Bharat train sets. Therefore, Indian Railways has tried to develop a successful independent design having common specifications which will allow all interested companies to be a part of the transparent tendering process for the production of Vande Bharat train sets.

Legal activist group writes to media houses asking to be careful in reporting lynching incidents as many cases found to be fake

Legal Rights Observatory, a legal activist group, has written to the leading news broadcasters who as members of The News Broadcasters Association (NBA), asking to exercise restraint while reporting incidents of lynching. In an email sent to news organisations, the legal group said that many cases of lynching have been proved fake and fabricated, hence they should very cautious while reporting such events.

The mail reads that since last fortnight or so, there is a sudden spurt of news of “mob lynchings” of the Muslim community after victim forced to chant “Jai Shri Ram”. Sections of electronic, digital and print media give prominent space to cover such news and they have also started blaming the majority Hindu community for such alleged incidents. But the truth is the majority of such news are fake.

Legal Rights Observatory alleges that overzealous Indian media has provided fodder to international media in spreading lies about persecution of Muslims in the name of “Jai Shri Ram”. They note that later media groups like News18, Times of India and others have published that alleged lynching cases related to the slogan in Coochbehar, Gurugram, Kanpur etc were proved to be fake. But before the truth came out, immense damage to the India’s image was already inflicted on the international level due to such fake news, which had triggered widespread condemnation of the government of India by various international organisations.

The email also notes that Muslims took out violent protests against the so-called mob lynchings due to such reporting. LRO cautions that such careless, irresponsible, communally inflammatory reporting by influential media outlets may add fuel to the fire. Therefore, a very responsible and sensible behaviour is expected from the media houses.

They have also mentioned that they have already sent a notice to an English language daily for such malicious reporting of “Mob Lynching related to chanting of Jai Shri Ram” under sections 153 (A), 295 (A) and 298 of IPC and relevant sections of the IT act.

LRO has requested the news broadcasters to refrain from provocative, malicious and fake journalism to help maintain peace and communal harmony in the country. They have also said that they will prosecution of such media houses who spread lies of mob lynching in future as per legal provisions.

Earlier LRO had initiated legal proceedings against the Times Group for such a fake news of mob lynching. The groups Marathi newspaper Maharashtra Times had published a news claiming that a man was thrown out of a train after forcing him to chant Jai Shri Ram.

Karnataka BJP calls for legislative party meet, demands HD Kumaraswamy’s immediate resignation

As BJP continues to reiterate they have no role in the current political crisis in Karnataka, the party called for a legislative meeting today. Karnataka BJP President BS Yeddyurappa has now demanded that Chief Minister HD Kumaraswamy tender his resignation immediately.

Yeddyurappa asserted that BJP workers would protest tomorrow as the Congress-JDS coalition has already lost the majority. He said that the coalition has lost confidence and have no moral right to stay in power.

Reportedly, Yeddyurappa had earlier said that party is expecting more Congress and JD(S) MLAs to quit and BJP would soon decide its future course of action. The party also blamed Congress for the failure of the current Congress-JDS coalition.

13 Congress-JDS MLAs submitted their resignations on Saturday, following which the coalition now holds 105 seats in the assembly, bringing them at par with BJP. The same evening, 10 MLAs flew out of Bengaluru in a private charter plane, they are now lodged in a Mumbai hotel.

Since Sunday, Youth Congress workers have been protesting outside the hotel demanding that MLAs take back their resignations while several protesters have been detained.

The coalition has been pushed towards the edge as another MLA resigned today. Followed by these developments, all 21 ministers in Karnataka government voluntarily resigned from the Cabinet to enable the reconstitution of a fresh Cabinet by accommodating disgruntled MLAs.

CM Kumaraswamy has, however, said there is nothing to worry, “I don’t have any kind of anxiety about the present political development.”

Kumaraswamy who had gone to the United States on a private visit had to rush back after a series of resignation threatened the existence of his government. After returning back to Bangalore on Sunday, he held a series of meetings with leaders of his party JD(S) and its ally Congress in a bid to rescue the coalition government.

Here is what the Indian State wants Hindus to learn from Muslims

In the famous V for Vendetta comic, which eventually was made into a movie, Alex Moore made a profound statement: “People shouldn’t be afraid of their government. Governments should be afraid of their people.” The sentiments embedded in the statement have become the rallying cry of political protests worldwide. However, it fails to appreciate the inherent complexities of human nature.

Governments are not always evil, the wisdom of the masses is not always sound. It becomes quite evident in the case of how India treats its Muslim minority. There can be little doubt that the Indian state is scared of its Muslim population. Due to the power structures that form the basis of Muslim society, our country is held hostage by radical elements from the community whose ideology is almost exactly the same as Taliban’s or the Al Qaeda’s.

But, as implied in Moore’s statement, the Muslim community does gain a lot due to the fear it generates in the heart of the Indian state. The government, regardless of their political orientation, showers financial benefits at the community. Minority specific schemes litter the landscape of welfare, and efforts are constantly made to assuage the imagined fears of the community. No questions asked, no terms and conditions.

In fact, the more outrageous the conduct of the community, the more doles the Indian State throws at them. The more paranoid the community gets, the more incredulous the claims of their imagined fears, the more vigorously the government nods its head and throws more freebies at them. Financial benefits and minority-specific schemes are the price the Indian state pays to buy the subservience of the Muslim community toward the Indian Constitution.

However, it doesn’t quite work that way and before long, the government makes an even larger payment in the hope that this time it will work. As a wise man once said, doing the same thing under the same set of conditions involving the same set of individuals over and over again and expecting different results is the definition of insanity.

It’s important to remember that the strategy of the Indian government remains the same regardless of the political party in power. The strategy of the BJP isn’t any different from Congress. Both national parties agree on this issue. Regardless of who is in power, the nature of the Indian State does not change. Since the Saffron party came into power, their main allegation against the Congress in this matter has been that the latter hasn’t implemented the minority-specific schemes well enough, that the latter used Muslims mainly for votes.

Of course, it couldn’t be farther from the truth. The relationship between the Congress party and Muslims was mutual. To pretend as if the Muslim community hasn’t been using secular parties to further their own particular agenda is to remain in denial of reality. But as usual, the Indian state is afraid, to tell the truth about its Muslim population. Muslims are always victims, victims of fate, of secular parties that exploit them and of an imaginary Hindu Fascism.

The Muslim community is not responsible for anything, not even their own actions. No one from their community, apart from the individuals concerned, is responsible for the huge number of terrorists that are produced every year, no one from the larger community is responsible for the youth who are running off to join terrorist organizations in remarkable numbers, no one apart from the mob itself is responsible for the hate crimes committed against Hindus, no one is responsible for desecrating Hindu Temples, no one is responsible for the community exercising almost a monopoly over ‘community crimes‘.

Heck, the Muslim community is not even responsible for electing the Owaisi brothers in every single election, one of which wants the Police to be withdrawn for 15 minutes so that Muslims could show Hindus who the boss is and the other who does not inflict any consequences upon his brother while lecturing others on secularism. Or so we are told by India’s ruling class. As has become clear in recent times, the entire political spectrum agrees with this, the support that toxic elements enjoy among the larger Muslim community is never to be blamed. The BJP blames secular parties for it while secular parties divide the blame between Hindu Fascism and Brahmanvaad.

Elaborating on the deficiencies of the Muslim community and emphasizing on their personal responsibility will inevitably attract the wrath of the entire establishment. Reports will surface that the supremo of the political party in power is upset with the remarks that have been made and has expressed his or her displeasure over it. Not merely the political establishment, the Judiciary, too, will spout inanities that do not appear to make much sense and resemble the sermons of cult leaders preach from their pulpits.

There is a good reason for this. The Indian state has deified a man who embodies the worst of Pacifism. The apotheosis of Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi has led to the emasculation of an entire nation. Elaborating on his many follies is blasphemy. The manner in which the governments since independence have treated its Muslim community perfectly captures the essence of the Gandhian Indian State.

If someone slaps you on one cheek, gratefully offer the other. And thus it happens, after having committed genocide and driving out native Hindus from the region, Kashmiri Muslims receive a disproportionate amount of funds for welfare. In a similar vein, without any evidence to suggest that education or development changes their mindset, a vast amount of resources is allocated specifically to the minority community.

The lessons the Indian State is teaching Hindus are pretty clear: Unless you hold us hostage, we will not pay much attention to your misery. Unless you riot with remarkable frequency, threaten us with rebellion, defy and attack the Police at alarming levels, we will not take your concerns seriously. By adopting such an approach, the Indian State is providing incentives to communities to indulge in lawlessness.

After all, if major sections of the Muslim community can earn doles by continuing to threaten the Indian State and violating its laws, where is the incentive for them to reform their society? And given their religious beliefs, they perceive the doles as validation of their outrageous actions. There’s a reason why the Carrot-and-Stick strategy is so popular and the Carrot-and-Carrot approach is not.

Nonetheless, there is a lot the Hindus could learn from the Muslim community. The organizational structures, the sense of solidarity among every member of the community, the shared sense of identity, the ‘One for All and All for One’ mentality, these are indeed worthy of emulation. Why should it always be the sole responsibility of Bajrang Dal and Vishwa Hindu Parishad to stand up for the Hindu victims of hate crimes?

Sections of the Muslim community rioted in cities across the country after a Muslim thief was allegedly lynched by Hindus. Hindus must not riot but a complete non-violent shutdown of at least the National Capital could have been attempted demanding the immediate arrests of every single Muslim who rioted and desecrated the Hindu Temple. Large scale non-violent protests could have been conducted too.

Indefinite strikes could have been a very potent strategy. Gandhian hunger-strikes would have certainly added a sense of irony in the whole situation. And yet, only eight days have passed and everyone appears to have forgotten what happened on the night of 30th June. Everyone but those who suffered the consequences of Islamic extremism.

We ought to remember that an attack on one Hindu due to his or her Hindu identity is an attack on all of us. On the last day of June, it was the residents of that lane at Old Delhi, tomorrow it could be us. If we do not stand up for them, no one will stand up for us when we eventually end up at the receiving end. There was a time when we understood such simple things. We no longer do.

Minority specific schemes and the milquetoast approach of the Indian State toward the crimes committed by members of the Muslim community are the price we pay for our own callousness. In a democracy, we expect our elected representatives to heed our concerns and be accountable to us. However, even when the vote is decidedly against policies of minority appeasement, nothing much is done on that front. It does set a dangerous precedent.

Another pervasive malady that has gripped the Hindu community is that of class interests. As Hindus have been rising beyond their caste differences to unite under a single banner, class interests have only exacerbated simultaneously. The urban elite financially secure Hindus no longer appear to care for those less fortunate than them.

What else explains the hiring of Bangladeshi illegal immigrants as domestic help by urban Hindu families? Hindus would cost a couple more thousand rupees at the most but that has long term positive impacts for the country. Not merely that, it flows into other areas as well. And as Tucker Carlson says, “The cost of having other people cut your grass is always higher than you think.”

It’s not only well-to-do Hindus that are to blame here. Every single subsection of Hindu society must bear its own burden of responsibility. Where is the sense of social solidarity? When a Hindu man was arrested in Delhi because his children were bursting crackers during Diwali, why is it that residents in the area stood-by and watched the atrocity unfolding before their eyes?

By then, of course, it was too late and preventing the Police from doing their duty would have been illegal and criminal, actions which Hindus ought not to indulge in. The protests should have come as soon as firecrackers were banned but they did not. Consider the conduct of Muslim on the other hand, they attack the Police to help hardened criminals escape.

As a consequence of the ban, the firecracker industry, run by poor Hindus primarily, suffered immensely. Why did not every section of Hindus anticipate this and the chain of events that were set in motion? Why haven’t they felt the pain of the workers in the firecracker industry whose livelihoods were effectively destroyed? The Muslims, on the other hand, fight tooth and nail to prevent the banning of disgraceful traditions like Triple Talaq. These are difficult questions which Hindu society must answer.

Hindu society is forever willing to exchange short term stability for long term prosperity. And we are paying a price for that at every step. We evaluate the conduct of governments on the basis of political partisanship, not through the prism of our shared Hindu identity. Would Hindus, who attempt to justify the minority-specific schemes of the current government, remain silent if earlier regimes had proposed them? It was said after the BJP’s massive victory in 2019 that the days of pseudo-Secularism were over. But everything since then shows that it clearly hasn’t. Nehruvian Secularism is clearly alive and it’s thriving.

Hindus must view electoral politics, not through the prism of political partisanship but our shared identity. We ought to celebrate not the victory of our preferred political parties but concrete actions that address our concerns. It doesn’t matter who wins if Nehruvian Secularism continues to run on steroids. It is perfectly legitimate to demand that the party in power respect the mandate that it received.

Hindus must put less emphasis on symbolism and more on concrete actions. The leadership of the Muslim community is never satisfied with politicians donning the skull cap and organizing Iftar parties. They demand freebies, doles and everything else that comes along with it. Only concrete actions satisfy them. Why is it then Hindus are satisfied with politicians paying a visit to Hindu Temples and Shrines across the country? Why are Hindus celebrating visits to Temples when not a single step has been taken to address the institutionalized discrimination against Hindus in the country?

Political partisanship, caste interests, class interests, all of this prevents Hindus from uniting under one banner to preserve their shared interests. Until we start thinking collectively, we cannot expect the political establishment to be subservient to our interests. The time for merely calling out the appeasement policies of the Indian state has long since past. Hindus should consider nationwide strikes. Hunger-strikes in the manner of the figurehead of the Indian state could be adopted as well, for their sense of irony. Non-cooperation movements appears a worthy tactic too.

The Indian State must consider its minority policies. It cannot afford to take the majority of the country for granted. It will inevitably lead to widespread anarchy, or worse. They must understand, these violent delights do have violent ends. The Demographic time-bomb is already ticking in the Northeastern regions of the country.

Trinamool Congress calls its senior leader and MLA Sabyasachi Dutta ‘Mir Jafar’, strips him off his powers as Bidhannagar mayor

Trinamool Congress (TMC) stripped off Bidhannagar Municipal Corporation (BMC) Mayor Sabyasachi Dutta of his powers on Sunday on the charge of making anti-party statements and handed over his powers to his deputy Tapas Chatterjee. Bidhannagar is one of the four municipal corporations in the Kolkata metropolitan area or Greater Kolkata.

Senior TMC leader and West Bengal minister Firhad Hakim on Monday referred to the veteran leader Sabyasachi Dutta as ‘Mir Jafar’- a synonym for traitor and said, “It would be good if he leaves the party.”

The decision discharging Dutta of his responsibilities was taken at an emergency meeting of BMC councillors, who urged party supremo Mamata Banerjee to take a call on Dutta’s fate in the party. In fact, several councillors had even threatened to resign if Dutta continued as the mayor. Hakim was also present at the meeting.

Dutta, who is also the Rajarhat-New Town MLA, had ticked his party off on Friday by participating in an agitation against the Mamata Banerjee government and daring the party to act against him. The agitation was organised by a Trinamul-backed labour union in the state-run power sector in Salt Lake.

In his speech in the protest, Dutta had condemned the government for not accepting the longstanding demand for a raise in salaries and payment of the pending dearness allowance. Challenging the Trinamul leadership, he had said: “If I am saying anti-party things, take action against me. I have no objection.”

Now that Dutta has been stripped off his powers, speculations are rife that he may switch over to BJP. Dutta has reportedly met BJP leader Mukul Roy at the Bidhanagar Swimming pool Association Club in Salt Lake. Roy is a former TMC leader who has been instrumental in bringing many TMC leaders to BJP.

When inquired about his meeting with Roy, Dutta said, “Mukul da is just like my elder brother. He is aware of the political developments, so he just came to inquire about my well-being and future plans. It’s a courtesy visit.”

While speaking on the party’s decision to strip him of his powers as mayor, Dutta said, “There is a rule of law. There are certain procedures. I will follow that as long as I am there as mayor. I am not bothered about what others are saying.”

Meanwhile, Roy also declined to give a direct reply on whether Dutta would join the BJP in the near future. “Only time will say whether he will join the BJP or not. But being the elder brother, I would surely want for his well-being and good,” he asserted.

Recently, many TMC leaders and workers have been crossing over to the BJP leaving the party supremo riled. Disgruntled by continuous setbacks, Mamata had called all the defectors “greedy and corrupt” and claimed that BJP was “collecting garbage”. TMC supremo also said she would be replacing the “traitors” with “dedicated members” and asked those “undecided about joining the BJP” to leave her party at the earliest.

Pakistan joins hands with Break-India forces to glorify Hizbul Mujahideen terrorist Burhan Wani on his third death anniversary

On the third death anniversary of Hizbul Mujahideen terrorist Burhan Wani, who was eliminated by the Indian Armed Forces, separatist elements appeared to have joined hands with Pakistan in glorifying him. Wani was eliminated on July 8, 2016, in the Kokernag area of the Anantnag district.

In an attempt to lionize Wani, the spokesperson of the Pakistan Army, Asif Ghafoor tweeted “Nothing comes without commitment, dedication, and sacrifices.” In addition to this, Ghafoor further deluded his followers that Wani’s sacrifice was for the better tomorrow of the next generation.

In line with his Pakistani masters, Hurriyat stalwart Syed Ali Geelani posted a tweeted implying that Burhan Wani was not a terrorist, but a freedom fighter.

Mushaal Mullick, the wife of Chairman of Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front Yasin Malik, who is currently lodged in jail for his anti-India activities, echoed similar sentiments raised by Pak Army spokesperson. In hackneyed rhetoric, she urged the world to resolve the long-standing dispute of Kashmir and asserted that more Burhan Wanis will emerge to claim what is rightfully theirs.

Meanwhile, the Indian Armed Forces fully aware that Burhan Wani’s death anniversary might be used by inimical elements to stoke passions in the valley, pre-emptively beefed up the security in the region. Popular separatist leaders like Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, Syed Ali Shah Geelani, Hilal War among others are kept under house arrest. Internet services have been suspended in some areas, while in other areas the speed is reduced to 2G.

Wani’s death had triggered a Kashmir-wide unrest that continued for four months. Uncontrollable mobs indulged in arson, stone pelting, and vandalism. There were clashes between the security personnel and mobs, resulting in the death of 98 protesters while around 4000 protestors were maimed by pellet guns.

There is a shutdown in Kashmir. The Indian Armed Forces have been offered enhanced tactical freedom by the Narendra Modi government to take punitive action against the terrorists and miscreants indulging in creating unrest in the valley. The Army operations are in full swing and many terrorists, including Zakir Musa, have been eliminated.
