The Sabarimala private member’s bill tabled by Kerala MP asks only for maintaining ‘status quo’

N K Premachandran, Lok Sabha MP from Kollam in Kerala, recently tabled a private member’s bill seeking to overturn the Supreme Court’s 28 September 2018 verdict on Sabarimala. The bill known as the Sabarimala Sreedharma Sastha Temple (Special Provisions) Bill, 2019 makes no mention of granting a denominational status to the temple.

The bill asks for the continuation of religious practices at the Sabarimala as they were practised on the 1st of September 2018. The bill further asks for dropping all legal proceedings with respect to the religious practices of the temple and also asks protection from any legal proceeding after the enaction of the bill.

It’s also mentioned that any changes in the religious practices would be in accordance with the custom that had existed in the Sabarimala temple before the 1st of September. The central and state government are to ensure that these practices are maintained.

Yesterday, while Delhi MP Meenakshi Lekhi had pointed out that there was no mention of granting a denominational status to the Sabarimala temple. She termed the bill as being defective and said that it “would only serve the optics” creating headlines in newspapers.

The Supreme Court’s judgement in 2018 had denied the denominational status to the Sabarimala temple, which meant that the temple was denied rights guaranteed under Article 26 of the Constitution. Meenakshi Lekhi had argued that in order to truly protect a unique Hindu tradition, as it is practised in Sabarimala, legislators must take up the task to define what constitutes a ‘denominational practice’.

Taking a U-Turn on the Sabarimala issue, the CPM has now asked the central government should immediately bring about a law to protect the ‘customs and traditions’ of the temple. They have also for an ordinance if passing the law would take time.

The CPM had earlier welcomed the Supreme Court judgement despite massive protests that were staged by the devotees. The Supreme Court had in its judgement allowed the entry of women of all ages, contrary to the practices of the temple.

Devotees took it upon themselves to protect the temple. The state government had decided to unleash its brutality on protesting Ayyappa devotees. The Supreme Court judgement on the review petition that it heard in February has been pending for almost five months now.

How the Khan Market vipers refused to introspect despite push back from the people of India

Recently, I came across an article by a senior member of the Khan Market Gang on the 2019 Lok Sabha election results. It is full of angst about the failure of not being able to produce a result that would give cause for wild celebrations by the Gang.  It goes as follows:

Quote

Dear Sentinels of the Republic,

We goofed once again. As in the 2014 elections, every assumption we made during the 2019 campaign has been savaged. Each one was premised on the values we cherish — freedom, justice and fraternity. Yet all that we did to promote them was to create fear in the minds of voters: fear of Hindu nationalists continuing their control of levers of the state. It prompted us to clutch at the slenderest straw in the wind. That compounded our discomfiture.

We assumed, for example, that while Congress will go a little beyond three digits, its tally of seats would allow it to be more than a bit player in the formation of the next government. That didn’t happen. We also reckoned that BJP-led NDA would fail to reach the halfway mark this time. This would compel it to rope in ‘secular’ non-Congress, non-Left regional parties to take another shot at governance. The latter, we took for granted, would extract their pound of flesh: deny Narendra Modi any role in the new dispensation.

Towards this goal, we added our two-penny bit. We missed no chance to harp on Modi’s RSS background. Time and again we raked up the 2002 violence in Gujarat. We pooh-poohed the ‘clean chit’ the Supreme Court-appointed Special Investigation Team and a lower court in Ahmedabad had given Modi. We picked gaping holes in his much-vaunted development model. And when this was not enough to corner BJP’s prime ministerial candidate, we latched on to the intolerance card. On all these counts, we came a cropper.

Congress suffered its second-worst rout in history. The decline in the Left parties continued remorsely. Caste-based formations that wore secularism on their sleeves did no better. On the other hand, BJP got what it wanted: a consecutive 272+ outcome. No non-Congress party had secured successive majorities on its own since the first general elections in 1952. Add to this the seats gained by BJP’s pre-poll allies. That has placed NDA in an invincible position once again.

So why did we lose the plot? The plain answer is that we misread the nation’s mood yet again. We didn’t gauge the depth and sweep of the popularity of Narendra Modi and the real delivery of so many popular welfare schemes. The dread possibility of ‘communal’ forces returning to power, we believed, would override all other concerns of the electorate, including the unproven leadership of Rahul Gandhi, Congress’s mascot. We drew a blank.

An equally miserable failure of ours was to underestimate the spell Modi continues to cast on the electorate. Armed with a hugely expensive media blitz, he led another intensive, spirited campaign built around his personality. He tapped into voters’ aspiration and confidence that India had moved significantly forward and that the future will be even brighter.  He also tapped into voters’ yearning for a leader endowed with the will and aptitude to bring prosperity to the people, ensure clean and effective governance, provide security and instil national pride in citizens.

We made light of all this. The Modi wave of 2014 was a black-swan event, we argued, and the handiwork of media that had been bought over by India Inc. Poll results showed how hopelessly we were off the mark: education, jobs, sound civic services and good governance mattered more to voters than narratives of victimhood replete with populist promises.

We still try to comfort ourselves with the thought that over six out of 10 voters didn’t cast their lot with BJP. Comfort can’t get colder than this. What we need is to acknowledge the flaws in our idea of secularism. Correctly or otherwise, it has been perceived as a hostile attitude to even the most uplifting traditions of India’s myriad religious and spiritual traditions. And, by that token, it has been equated with an indulgent attitude to Muslim extremism. A course correction is in order.

We also need to renounce our animus against economic reforms and modernisation of our armed forces. At the same time, we must not lower our vigil to ensure that casteist, communal, sexist, hyper-nationalist and regional chauvinist forces of all shades do not threaten the fundamental rights of citizens. These rights are the foundation on which rests the edifice of our Republic. And we remain its steadfast sentinels.

‘Unquote’

Actually, this is not an article written in May 2019, but in May 2014. It was authored by the late Dileep Padgaonkar.

All that I did was to do some small changes to make it look like an article written in May 2019. The essential message of the May 2014 article has been kept intact.   So little has changed in the mindset of the Khan Market Gang (KMG).

In May 2014, Padgaonkar had asked for introspection by the members of the Gang so that an honest appraisal is made for their failure. Instead, the Gang members indulged in all sorts of chicanery and tried to create a false narrative with an intention of demonising the NDA government in general, and Narendra Modi in particular.

The manner in which the KMG went about its task of trying to keep its relevance post-2014 has been quite succinctly set out by Surjit Bhalla in his article in The Indian Express (June 17, 2017) where he wrote:

“The Indian people are asking more questions and demanding greater accountability from dynastic political leaders. But the old elite — politicians, corporates, left-intellectuals, academics — cannot be expected to give up their privileges so easily. They will try to derail the transformation and object at every turn: If that means fake analysis, they will do so. If that means intellectual gymnastics, they will do so. The key point is that they must do so.”

What Bhalla calls ‘old elite’ is the same as KMG, and fake analysis and intellectual gymnastics are a polite way to say that they were telling lies. These lies were in the form of taking isolated incidences and project them in a way that the NDA government of the day was responsible and in particular Modi himself personally. The strategy is best stated by Anand Ranganathan in his following tweet dated January 2019:

These vipers added few more fake narratives to the above list during the time of the campaign and each of them failed due to the push back by the people of India:

Balakot distortion. FAILED
Signature campaign. FAILED
EVMs are hacked. FAILED

Clearly, there really was no intention to do an honest introspection, as suggested by Padgaonkar, because the Gang knew that the result would be that they would have to stop writhing in the sand and crawl back into the woodworks. (All metaphorically.)  For the society, this would be a very happy state of affairs since it would pave the way for a sane discussion to take place leading to enduring solutions to the problems that India is confronted with.

At the time when Padgoankar wrote his article in May 2014, I wrote a response which is available here: The parable of Emperor has new clothes, with an Indian twist.

I looked at one of the Hans Anderson’s fables, where a couple of swindlers in the form of weavers fooled an emperor into parting large sums of money for his passion, bordering on the vanity, for clothes.  The swindlers told the emperor that they can weave a cloth which only the wise and the competent can see.  Apart from being an owner of this ‘magical’ cloth, the emperor thought he could also weed out the fools and the incompetent from his court.  It took a little innocent boy to announce that actually, the emperor has no clothes.

The Khan Market Gang was weaving a false narrative that they grandly called Idea of India. No member of the Gang dared to question the Idea because they would then be termed as fools and incompetent and banished from the Khan Market.  The voice people at large was suppressed by the members of the Gang, till the arrival of the internet and Social Media.  Slowly a momentum was being built up against the Gang members, which the doyens of the KMG were blissfully unaware of since their reference points were the thoughts of an incestuous group which had not only become disconnected from the society but also seriously incompetent.

And like the swindlers in the Anderson fable, the members of the KMG extracted money from the society because they posted themselves in various public and private posts, giving themselves grand titles to indicate that they are intellectuals.  This money was more than enough to maintain a lifestyle which only the generation after next of the people at large could aspire for.

India is headed in a positive direction forward which will unleash the inherent energy of the ancient civilisation. The members of the KMG can decide to be a part of this movement, or continue to oppose it as they have been doing for the last five years – through ‘fake analysis and intellectual gymnastics’. They will only slow down the momentum, but not stop it. In the process, they will be subjected to a lot of verbal abuse by the people at large.  They will use this abuse to project that they are being victimised.  But their sad story will no longer be accepted.

Kanhaiya Kumar ‘visits’ SKMCH with over 100 of his supporters barging in while hospital grapples with increasing AES deaths

Despite the deteriorating conditions in the hospitals in Muzaffarpur where the death toll due to the outbreak of Acute Encephalitis Syndrome has reached 170, political leaders, showing complete disregard to the solemness of the situation, and the pressure on the hospital administration, are continuing with their token visits to the hospitals.

CPI leader, Kanhaiya Kumar had visited the hospital today, with over 100 supporters, reports Republic TV. Some media reports say that he was even welcomed by his supporters with garlands.

When confronted as to why was he showing such a show of strength even when children are dying, Kanhaiya Kumar first tried to evade the question but later said, “Mai akele aaya hun. Mai kisi ke saath nahi aaya. Ye hospital hai, yaha prarthana kijiye, koi bat mat kijiye” (I have come alone, I have not come with supporters. This is a hospital and therefore pray here, don’t talk)

The CPI leader’s visit along with more than 100 supporters, allegedly created a ruckus in the already deteriorated condition of the Sri Krishna Medical College and Hospital. Irked by Kanhaiya Kumar’ insensitivity, relatives and health workers outside the hospital started protesting against him.

The protestors claimed that Kumar had such a huge trail of people along with him that even sweepers and other hospital staffs were finding it difficult to do their work smoothly.

However, the sedition accused, Kanhaiya Kumar was not the only leader who has made such namesake visits to the hospitals, which have been grappling to deal with the outbreak of AES.

Ironically, merely a day after the Superintendent of Sri Krishna Medical College and Hospital (SKMCH), Sunil Kumar Shahi, urged the political parties to go to villages to spread awareness instead of visiting the hospitals and hampering the work of healthcare staff, the SKMCH sealed its gates for VVIP passage.

Shahi had stated that the politicians’ visits to the hospital were not needed and instead of visiting with their party supporters and officials and overcrowding the hospital space, they should work to spread awareness about the visit.

The gates of the Sri Krishna Medical College and Hospital, probably due to political pressure, was shut from the morning on June 20 and patients were not allowed inside the hospital. This was done to provide VVIP treatment to LJD leader Sharad Yadav who came to visit the patients in the hospital by unsealing the gate for him and then sealing it again.

Patients alleged that the token visit of Sharad Yadav is unnecessary as the facilities in the hospital are disastrous. Speaking to Republic TV, a patient alleged that the doctors have threatened that if they talk to media their children will be thrown out of the hospital. The agitated protestors also exposed the insensitivity of the authorities.

The state government has also appeared to be unfazed about the increasing number of cases and subsequent death due to Acute Encephalitis Syndrome(AES).

In a shocking display of apathy towards the rising distress over the deaths due to the outbreak of Acute Encephalitis Syndrome (AES) in Bihar, its Health minister, Mangal Pandey was caught on camera on June 17 being more concerned about the India-Pakistan match rather than the deteriorating situation in the state.

Earlier, two journalists, Anjana Om Kashyap and TV9 Bharatvasrsh’s Ajit Anjum had also faced criticism for barging into the ICU of the hospital while doctors worked to treat the children.

The Bihar government is facing widespread criticism for its lack of management and inability to control the epidemic. Earlier today, another case of sheer insensitivity was brought to the fore when skeletal remains of several unclaimed dead bodies from post mortem department were found dumped behind the hospital premises.

World Cup Match Preview, New Zealand v West Indies: Last chance for the Caribbeans

West Indies is in a situation where they have to win every game and hope other top teams to lose their games to have a chance in reaching the semis.

New Zealand is undoubtedly at a better position, winning 4 out of 5 games with one washout, sure to reach the semis.

West Indies need to apply brains before they go out to bowl or bat in this game. They have lost matches from winning positions too often in this World Cup, and they are themselves to be blamed for such a casual approach. They should bowl bat first and score at least 275 to test the Kiwis batting line up which crumbled in chasing small targets (though they won all).

The Kiwis would be looking for another win to grab the number one spot in the points table. The kind of calmness Kane showed in the last game shows how much they are serious about winning every game of the tournament. The bowlers need to be tight in line and length against the West Indian batting line up which always looks for width and short ball to score runs.

The West Indies team smashed 421 runs against New Zealand in the warm-up of the current tournament.

The weather looks fine at Old Trafford, warm and sunny with light wind to be expected.

Players to watch out

Chris Gayle has not performed at all in this World Cup. West Indies think tank and fans expected him to score runs just like he did against England in the home series before IPL. If he scores big or even gives a solid start, then West Indies will have a chance to win the match.

Kane Williamson has been in great form in the tournament. His last innings against South Africa is one of the best innings played by a Kiwi player in the World Cup tournament. He would love to continue his form, and the kind of attack West Indies has, it shouldn’t be a problem.

New Zealand v West Indies in ODIs:

Overall: Matches 64, New Zealand Won 27, West Indies Won 30, No Result 7

World Cup: Matches 7, New Zealand Won 4, West Indies Won 3

Recent Form (most recent first): New Zealand W NR W W W, West Indies L L NR L W

ICC Rankings: New Zealand (3), West Indies (7)

Upcoming Records:

Boult needs four more wickets to become the 5th highest wicket-taker for New Zealand in the World Cup.

Squads:

New Zealand: Kane Williamson (capt), Tom Blundell (wk), Trent Boult, Colin de Grandhomme, Lockie Ferguson, Martin Guptill, Matt Henry, Tom Latham (wk), Colin Munro, Jimmy Neesham, Henry Nicholls, Mitchell Santner, Ish Sodhi, Tim Southee, Ross Taylor.

UK Judge authorizes forced abortion of mentally disabled pregnant woman despite her and her mother’s objections

A Judge in the United Kingdom has ruled that a mentally disabled woman pregnant mother must be forced to go through with an abortion against her will after doctors decided that abortion will be less traumatic for her than childbirth.

Justice Nathalie Lieven admitted that her decision was an “immense intrusion” but believed abortion is in the best interests of the woman. “I am acutely conscious of the fact that for the State to order a woman to have a termination where it appears that she doesn’t want it is an immense intrusion,” the justice said. “I have to operate in [her] best interests, not on society’s views of termination.”

She added, “I think she would like to have a baby in the same way she would like to have a nice doll.” She also agreed with the assessment of the doctors. “I think [the woman] would suffer greater trauma from having a baby removed [from her care],” she said citing that the baby will have to be put in foster care.

The unidentified woman is reported to be in her 20s and is 22 weeks pregnant, and suffers from developmental disabilities that have left her with the mental capacity of a grade school-aged child. How she got pregnant is being investigated by the Police as well.

The mother of the pregnant woman is strongly against abortion due to her Catholic beliefs and reportedly, has said that she will take care of the baby after its birth. Barrister John McKendrick, head of the legal team for the pregnant woman’s mother, says the court has “no proper evidence” that having an abortion will be beneficial to the pregnant mother. “Their evidence is premised on a narrow clinical view. The application must be dismissed,” he said.

The head of the opposition camp, Fiona Paterson, argued that the abortion was in the best interests of the mother. “A termination is in her best interests. In broad terms [they] believe that as a result of her learning disabilities … [she] is likely to find the loss of pregnancy easier to recover from than separation from the baby if he or she is taken into care,” Paterson said.

The mother of the pregnant woman is reported to be a registered midwife and informed the Court and the doctors that she will take care of the baby. However, the Justice believes she won’t be able to take care of her daughter and grandchild simultaneously.

No Mr Owaisi, the oppressive practice of Triple Talaq and the traditions of Sabarimala cannot be equated. Here is why

The Triple Talaq Bill was tabled in the Lok Sabha on Thursday. The NDA Government has been making consistent efforts to criminalize the Muslim practice in order to protect the rights of Muslim women. However, the Opposition has been constantly opposing the move to protect Muslim women.

This time around as well, Opposition leaders condemned the Bill. Shashi Tharoor said that the Bill was in violation of the Constitution itself and added that if desertion is a criminal act, there should be a universal law applicable to all Indians that criminalises the act of deserting a wife and children.

Along expected lines, AIMIM leader Asaduddin Owaisi vehemently opposed the Bill. He too said that the Bill violated articles in the Constitution. “The Bill is in violation of Constitution’s Articles. The Constitution lays down that if we make a discriminatory law, we will have to satisfy two tests — intelligible differentia and rational nexus. In this case, the Supreme Court has already said that the marriage is not going to end. We have the Domestic Violence Act, the Muslim Women protection Act 1986. Hence, your bill doesn’t satisfy intelligible differentia,” he said.

He then proceeded to make a false equivalence between the practice of Triple Talaq and the traditions of the Sabarimala Temple where women of menstrual age are not permitted entry. He said, “Through this, I would like to ask the government that they have all the love for Muslim women. Why don’t they have the same sentiment for Hindu women of Kerala? Why are you against Sabarimala?”

The attempt to draw an equivalence between the traditions of Sabarimala Temple and Triple Talaq reeks of malice and is akin to comparing apples and oranges. First and foremost, the lives of women are not affected if they are not entering into a single particular Temple. However, if a woman is given Triple Talaq by her husband, it throws her entire life into chaos.

Secondly, the traditions at Sabarimala Temple are not universal in nature. It is not even a universal aspect of every Temple of Bhagavan Ayyapa. It is specific to that particular Temple alone. Therefore, if a woman wishes to worship Him, she can still go to other Temples dedicated to Him or wait until she reaches the appropriate age. It is not the case with Triple Talaq. The Muslim custom is applicable to every single woman of the community and there is no escape from it, it hangs like a sword around their neck at every moment of their life.

Thirdly and most importantly, the Sabarimala traditions do not have the capacity to oppress women unlike the custom of Triple Talaq. As a consequence of Triple Talaq, many women are then subjected to the extremely evil tradition of Nikah Halala whereby women are passed around like cattle for Muslim men to exploit them sexually.

Therefore, any attempt to draw an equivalence between the two traditions is extremely disdainful and trivializes the extreme form of oppression that Muslim women have to suffer as a consequence of Triple Talaq. The debate in the Lok Sabha around the Triple talaq Bill also shows how ‘Secular’ parties always empower the fundamental sections of the Muslim community while ignoring the concerns of the Muslim women.

DMK to protest against transport of water from Vellore to Chennai, while also protesting against the water crisis in the city

Today, with the ongoing water crisis in Chennai, the AIADMK led Tamil Nadu government has announced that it would be bringing in 10 MLD(million litres per day) drinking water from Jolarpettai, Vellore into the city. While the DMK is holding a statewide protest against the current water crisis in Chennai, Durai Murugan, a DMK MLA from Vellore has said that they would be protesting against the decision of bringing water in from Jolarpettai.

[youtube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_t8BXTYP3mI]

He had warned the government that if the water were to be taken from Jolarpettai, the DMK would be arranging a massive protest in the Vellore District.

Yesterday, in a press conference, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami announced that the government has sanctioned Rs 65 crore to bring water from Jolarpettai to Chennai by train for six months.

The DMK has warned of protests in Vellore despite welcoming water from other states. Two days ago the DMK President, MK Stalin, had thanked the Kerala CM’s offer to provide drinking water to Tamil Nadu. He had also urged the government to work with Kerala to solve the crisis.

Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan had earlier offered to help Tamil Nadu. Tamil Nadu had rejected the offer saying that it wasn’t required as of now. Yesterday, they had decided to accept the offer and also requested the state if they could provide with 20 MLD as the city had a requirement of 525 MLD of drinking water.

The DMK is currently staging a massive statewide protest against the ruling government, holding them responsible for the current water crisis.

Chennai has been reeling under an acute water shortage crisis for several weeks now after four major reservoirs have completely dried up. The city had 62% shortfall in rainfall last year and has seen mismanagement of water resources over the years. The city would be facing a difficult time until the next northeast monsoon which occurs in October-November.

After Imran Khan confuses quote by Rabindranath Tagore for Gibran’s, his special assistant thinks Tendulkar is Imran Khan

Pakistan has often been a constant source of entertainment for the world when it’s not exporting terror. Today, the Special Assistant to Pakistan’s Prime Minister Imran Khan took to Twitter to praise his Wazir-e-Azam. Only, he was not praising Imran Khan.

Naeem Ul-Haque, the special assistant to Imran Khan posted a picture of a young cricketer holding his bat up after presumably playing a good inning. Haque captioned that photograph with “PM Imran Khan 1969”.

The only catch? That picture was not of Imran Khan at all. The picture that the special assistant shared was that of Sachin Tendulkar, legendary Indian cricketer.

Sachin Tendulkar made his first-class debut in 1988 against Gujarat, aged 15 years and 232 days, becoming the youngest cricketer to score a century on his first-class debut. Mumbai declared their innings 394 for 6 as soon as Tendulkar reached his hundred, He played a square-cut off a left-arm spinner to reach the hundred.

Thus, this photograph of Sachin Tendulkar, that Naeem Ul-Haque plugged as a photo of Imran Khan, is from 1988.

This is not the first time that someone from Pakistan has made such an outlandish mistake. In fact, Haque seems to be following his Prime Minister’s footsteps.

Imran Khan had earlier posted a tweet, attaching an image that contained an inspirational quote. It says, “I slept and dreamt that life is all joy. I woke and saw that life is all service. I served and I saw that service is joy.” The quote was followed by the words Kahlil Gibran (1883-1931), implying that he wrote it.

Along with the image, Imran Khan tweeted, “Those who discover and get to understand the wisdom of Gibran’s words, cited below, get to live a life of contentment.” The quote, however, was one by Rabindranath Tagore.

Till this report was published, Naeem Ul-Haque had not deleted his tweet or tweeted a clarification in this regard.

Madhya Pradesh: A 72-year-old living man declared dead by doctor, kept in freezing morgue for entire night

In a shocking incident, a 72-year-old man who was declared dead by a doctor at Bina District Hospital in Madhya Pradesh was found to be still breathing when his body was being sent for a postmortem after spending a whole night in the mortuary.

However, after spending an entire night in a freezing chamber in the morgue, Kashiram Soni, hailing from Chhatarpur district, Madhya Pradesh, couldn’t be revived and died about 90 minutes later.

The Chief Medical Officer, Dr RS Roshan has instituted an inquiry against the doctor who issued a ‘memo’ for an autopsy of a man who was still alive.

“A patient was declared dead by a doctor at 9:30 pm on June 20. When we saw him in the morning on June 21, he was still alive. However, he died sometime later. We have ordered an investigation in this case of negligence by the doctor,” said Roshan.

Kashiram was admitted to the hospital on June 14 after being found lying unconscious on the road.

In what could be called an extreme case of negligence, Dr Avinash Saxena, who was on duty, reportedly sent a note to police around 9 pm to inform that Kashiram had died. A hospital employee had delivered the note to Bina SHO Anil Mourya.

The next morning, the SHO visited the hospital mortuary and while making the Panchnama of Kashiram for the autopsy, realised that the elderly man was “still breathing”. “I was shocked, and immediately called for an ambulance to take him to the hospital”, recollected Mourya.

Meanwhile, the ASP of the Sagar police station, Vikram Singh said, “We had received a call in the night that a patient had died in hospital. However, the person was alive when we went to the hospital for postmortem. Soon, we informed the doctor on duty and he informed that the patient is still alive.”

“The doctor started his treatment but he soon died. Then again at 10:20 am, they informed us that the person has expired. He was alive the whole night. It’s a case of negligence. We will inform about this to the district administration and action will be taken as per law,” said police.

Muzaffarpur: After encephalitis wreaks havoc, skeletal remains of several bodies found behind SKMC Hospital

Bihar’s SKMC Hospital in Muzaffarpur has been under media and public scanner since the news of the deaths of over 100 children has been noticed by the nation. Many parts in Bihar, particularly the Muzaffarpur area is reeling under an encephalitis epidemic as hundreds of cases have been reported from this region.

Now, as per reports, several skeletal remains have been unearthed behind the hospital premises, drawing serious concerns over the management issues and lackadaisical approach of healthcare authorities of Muzaffarpur’s biggest hospital.

As per reports, several human skeletal remains have been found just behind the hospital and it is suspected that the hospital has been burning the unclaimed bodies after post mortem just behind its premises.

Bihar health minister Mangal Pandey was seen evading media questions after the issue was brought to light. The news of skeletal remains being found just behind the premises has created a storm regarding the carelessness and apathy of authorities in the hospital and government.

The hospital and Bihar’s health system at large were being constantly criticised in the media over the lack of adequate medical facilities and unavailability of doctors. Over 176 people, mostly children, have been reported dead so far in Muzaffarpur and nearby areas. Reports say that over 2 dozen bodies from the post mortem department nearby were burnt together just behind the hospital.

Speaking to news agency ANI, SK Shahi, Medical Superintendent of SKMCH has said, “Postmortem department should do it with a humane approach. I’ll talk to the Principal & ask him to constitute an investigating committee.”

As per latest reports, Bihar health department has given orders to investigate into the skeletal remains being found behind the hospital. The team has reportedly stated that the remains belong to unclaimed bodies from post mortem department.
