PM Modi’s first ‘Mann ki Baat’ with nation in 2019: Key takeaways

Prime Miniter Modi addressed the nation, through his radio program called ‘Mann ki Baat’. 27th January’s episode was 52nd Mann ki Baat and 2019’s first address to the nation. PM Modi talked about various aspects, ranging from tireless efforts of the election commission to unwavering spirit of the sportspersons.

Here are the key takeaways from PM Modi’s radio address to the nation:

PM Modi pays condolences to late Siddaganaga Matha seer Shivkumar Swami

At the beginning of the address, PM Modi remembered Siddanganaga Matt Shivkumar Swami and his efforts towards the betterment of society.

“We received a sad piece of news this month. Shivakumar Swamiji left us for his entire life for the service of the nation. He spent the 111 years of his life working for the social, educational welfare of thousands of people” PM Modi said.

In 2007, former President APJ Abdul Kalam had also visited Shivakumar Swami. PM Modi shared the poem recited by Dr Kalam to Swami, essaying the mission of the Math.

PM Modi lauds tireless efforts of Election Commission of India

On 25th January, the country celebrated the National Voters Day, commemorating the foundation of Election Commission of India.

“The scale on which the elections are conducted in our country amazes the world. The way, our Election Commission puts efforts for successful execution of elections, leaves every Indian proud of the institution” PM Modi said. He also pointed out that the institution of Election Commission is older than the Republic of India.

PM Modi further added that be it land mass of Himachal Pradesh which is 15000 feet above sea level or remote locations of Andaman and Nicobar Islands or Gir forest, Election commission successfully holds the election for people in that region. He also thanked security personnel, the state unit of the election commission and other workers of the institution, for their selfless contributions to the strengthening of democracy.

PM Modi remembers Netaji Subash Chandra Bose

On 23rd January, PM Modi inaugurated a museum at Red Fort, commemorating the struggles of Netaji Subash Chandra Bose and his Indian National Army.

PM Modi said that during the inauguration of Netaji’s museum, family members of Netaji gifted him a cap that Netaji himself used to wear. He said that he has kept the cap in the museum, so that it can inspire the young generation, visiting the museum.

“I also admire the importance of radio, and that’s why I use this platform to spread my message to masses. Similarly, Netaji also had a special bond with radio, and used it to reach the masses” PM Modi said. He also talked about his October 2018 visit to Port Blair, where he had unfurled national flag to commemorate 75 years of Azad Hind Government.

PM Modi remembers Vikaram Sarabhai and his contribution to space programme of India

PM Modi had inaugurated a statue of space Scientist Vikaram Sarabhai in Ahmedabad, recently. PM Modi spoke about his contribution to the space science, that helped India stand with the world.

PM Modi lauded efforts of Indian youngsters, putting efforts into the building of satellites and sounding rockets. PM Modi asserted that in the last four years we have sent several spaces missions, that are more than the number of them sent in the last 6 decades of Independence. He also reminded countrymen, that our agencies are preparing to launch Chadrayaan mission to the moon, to mark our presence there.

PM Modi said that space mission has also aided in government’s schemes like Housing for All and MGNERGA, by geotagging the beneficiaries. This, he said, has led to more accountability in public-friendly schemes.

PM Modi talks about the importance of sports

PM Modi emphasised on the fact that if we want our players to perform well at the global level, then we should focus on strengthening the local ecosystem of sports.

PM Modi talked about the sportspersons taking part at the event of Khelo India (Play India). He cited the example of Maharashtra’s Pune, where 18,000 people took part in the sports event.

PM Modi talks about the Swachh Sundar Shuachalya drive

“You would have heard a lot about beauty contests. Have you ever heard about the beautification of toilet drive?” PM Modi asked. He was referring to Swachh Sundar Shauchalya mission undertaken by common citizens to keep public and personal toilets clean and tidy.

He said that around five lakh fifty thousand villages across 600 districts have been declared open defecation free. He said that this will homage Mahatma Gandhi on the 150th birth anniversary, who himself was conscious about clean and tidiness.

Karnataka: Two die, 11 hospitalised after consuming prasad in Gangamma temple, one woman arrested

Two people have died and as many as 11 have been hospitalised after consuming prasad in a temple in Chikkaballapura, Karnataka, on 25th January night. A woman who works as a cook in a hotel has been taken into custody and case has been registered.

According to reports, people started complaining of uneasiness and vomiting after consuming the prasad, following which they were shifted to a hospital. 28-year-old Kavitha and 59-year-old Saraswathamma succumbed to the illness. The women had reportedly gone to Gangamma temple and distributed kesari baath (prasad) to the devotees who had gathered in large number on Friday.

This incident comes close on heels of another incident where as many as 15 people were killed allegedly by the seer of a temple and his accomplices in Chamarajanagar in December. 120 people were also hospitalised and the seer was arrested on charges of conspiracy to kill devotees to defame the management and take control of the shrine. 15 bottles of pesticides were reportedly added to the prasad while it was being prepared.

Around 430 small and marginal farmers and farm labourers in Punjab committed suicide in last one year: Bhartiya Kisan Union

Bhartiya Kisan Union (Ugrahan) has released new data stating that nearly 430 small and marginal farmers and farm labourers in Punjab committed suicide in last one year after the state government launched the third phase of loan waiver scheme, reported Indian Express.

According to the reports, BKU has released data compiled on the basis of the various revenue department and police records along with media reports, which says that around 98 per cent of the deceased farmers belonged to Malwa region of Punjab mainly from Mansa, Sangrur, Bathinda and Barnala districts. Most of these farmers had loans ranging from Rs 1 lakh to 20 lakh, said the BKU in its statement.

The Punjab government had launched the third phase of loan waiver scheme on Thursday for small farmers having land up to two hectares (5 acres). In the first two phases, the government had claimed to write-off loans of marginal farmers holding land up to one hectare.

Sukhdev Singh Kokrikalan, BKU (Ugrahan) General Secretary said, “If the government wants to stop suicide immediately then the first step should be to waive complete debt of all small and marginal farmers and provide them with the genuine rate of their crops as per the Swaminathan Commission recommendations. He further adds that after the loan waiver, the number of suicides has increased manifold. “The farmers have no faith in the state and Centre,” said Kokrikalan.

Sukhpal Singh Manak, who keeps the record fo farmer suicides released the data, saying that in the past 21 months (March 2017-December 2018), 900 farmers and farm labourers had committed suicides, including 430 from January 2018 to December 2018. “I have been keeping the record of farmers’ suicide for the past three years and collecting details from various channels, including media reports, revenue and police records and village-level workers of the organisation. We have been sending this detail every month to the Punjab government,” he added.

BKU (Dakunda) General Secretary Jagmohan Singh said that even after coming to power for two years, not even 50 per cent of 10.25 lakh farmers have been covered under the loan waiver till date. “If huge loans of corporate houses can be waived, why can’t farmers’ loan be,” Singh questioned the state government.

Reportedly, loans taken from cooperative societies and banks are being written-off for both small and marginal farmers. The loan of nationalised and commercial banks will be taken up after completing the process of the cooperative banks.

Punjab Agriculture Director Dr Jasbir Singh Bains says that the government has tried to waive off farm loans despite having limited means, but suicides have continued. “Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh had already said that farmers suicides would continue until the Centre rescues them from the debt net because with the state government’s efforts are not enough and could only provide temporary relief. Swaminathan Commission recommendations should be implemented fully and farmers need a big push for diversification too,” said Jasbir Singh.

Retd. Prof Gian Singh expressed doubts regarding the farm loan waiver scheme, said, “In Punjab, farmers have huge loans from the commercial and private banks, besides money lenders. This exercise of the government is not benefiting them much.”

The farmers in Congress-ruled states have continued to commit suicide despite farmer loan waiver scheme in place. In fact, within days after Congress government in MP waived off loan, a farmer had committed suicide because he wasn’t eligible. In less than three weeks, as many as three farmers had committed suicide in Madhya Pradesh. In Congress-JD(S) ruled Karnataka, too, farmers’ suicides continue despite farm loan waiver scheme.

Reportedly, a massive loan-waive scam has also been brewing in the state of Madhya Pradesh after reports emerged that various beneficiaries listed by the government eligible for farmer loan waiver did not even exist in reality. Many discrepancies and irregularities are already being unearthed in the loan waiver schemes. In Rajasthan, too, non-existent farmers’ names were found on the list of beneficiaries.

Priyanka Gandhi is bipolar, beats up people, alleges Subramanian Swamy

Senior BJP leader and legal activist Subramanian Swamy today accused Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi of being bipolar.

He said, “She has one illness which is not good for someone who has to lead a public life. It is bipolarity, which means she has a violent side which comes out at times. She beats up people. The public should know that no one knows she will lose her balance.”

Last week, Priyanka Gandhi was made the in-charge of Uttar Pradesh East for Congress in the upcoming 2019 general elections.

Kerala DCP gets transferred within hours after she raids CPM office in connection with a case registered under POCSO

0

On 25th January, DCP Law and Order, Chaithra Teresa John raided the Thiruvananthapuram District Committee office of CPI(M) following a tip-off that the DYFI workers who had pelted stones at the Medical College police station the previous night were hiding there. Within hours of the raid, on special instructions from the chief minister’s office, Chaithra was transferred to the Women’s Cell.

As per reports, on Wednesday night, a group of DYFI workers pelted stones on the Medical College police station in Thiruvananthapuram after the police arrested two DYFI workers involved in a case registered under the POCSO (Protection of Children from Sexual Offences) Act. Following the attack, a case was registered under against more than 50 DYFI workers. Later, working on a tip-off that the accused were hiding there, the police raided CPI(M) district committee office where CPI(M) workers protested against the raids. While some low-ranking officers suggested Chaithra to reconsider her decision to raid the CPI(M) office, she was adamant. Subsequently, CPI(M) district leadership approached higher-ups demanding action against Chaithra.

Chaithra, who was holding additional charge of DCP when R Adithya was on Sabarimala duty followed by a four-day leave, was removed from the additional charge and sent back to the Women’s Cell. As per reports, Kerala Police Chief has also sought an explanation from Chaithra for the raids conducted.

You are wrong, NYT: It is our time now

I’ve come across multiple articles over the last couple of years that have written off some of the most well-intentioned schemes of the Indian Government. I chose not to respond to them back then, for I believed in waiting for the outcome of these schemes before commenting on them. I was confident that these well-designed schemes would be successful and I was patiently waiting for this moment to let the success of these schemes give a befitting reply to one such commentator who wrote them off in one such op-ed. This 2017 op-ed recently resurfaced on social media, making a comprehensive rebuttal rather necessary.

Let me begin by putting the record straight, the numbers presented in the article for the UPA are incorrect as they’re based on the old base year prices. Based on the back series released by the CSO, the growth rate under the UPA was at 6.7 per cent as against 7.1 per cent under the NDA. This illustrates that the economy has actually outperformed the UPA era which is a significant achievement for two very important reasons. We must understand that when the NDA took over from the UPA, the twin balance sheet problem was still evolving, growth was slowing and the taper tantrum episode in 2013 had exposed our external market vulnerabilities. The first two years for NDA were not at all great as it experienced two successive droughts that had an adverse impact on India’s agricultural sector. This was followed by the rise in NPAs on the balance sheet of banks as the economy was still trying to find its mojo back. While the average growth rate under the NDA has been higher than that under the UPA, one must acknowledge the backdrop against which this growth was achieved.

The legacy issues of the UPA were a significant drag on the growth rate of our economy, despite that India registered a better growth and this illustrates that through successive reforms, the current government has managed to revitalize the Indian Economy. From fragile five in 2014 it became the fastest growing major economy in the world while the government continued with its agenda in reforms.

The data for capacity utilization demonstrates how easy lending policies along with the policy paralysis of the previous government had led to excess capacity in the manufacturing sector since 2011 onwards [Capacity Utilization: Suppose you have a plant that can produce 100 shirts, but you produce 80 so the capacity utilization of your plant is 80%]. The sharp decline followed till 2014 after which it continued to decline marginally till 2016. Capacity Utilization started to improve significantly post 2016 and as a direct consequence, domestic private investments as a share of GDP have also started to increase significantly since 2016. This indicates a strong and sharp revival of the economy as evident from the estimates of the National Accounts (or GDP) as released by the CSO.

Another charge levied by the commentator is on the jobs front as it claimed that almost zero jobs were added by the Modi Government. This claim seems to be completely devoid of facts as NDA has been estimated to have added at least 8.7 million jobs per year. EPFO and other indicators suggest that job creation under the Modi Government has been extremely robust and better than the UPA so clearly the commentator should have looked at the data on jobs before making such an outlandish claim regarding the state of job creation in the Indian Economy.

The commentator, through the article, tries to make personal jibes at the Indian Prime Minister without offering any data to substantiate the tall claims that are being made. In fact, the article mentions how the “Gujarat Model” was to offer cheap land and incentives to manufacturing units to promote growth in the state of Gujarat and the Prime Minister is trying to run the country in the same manner. This assertion is completely flawed as it simplifies the governance of a state into two factors and then further assumes that this oversimplification is being extrapolated across the country.

In reality, the Gujarat Model was a model that finds its ethos in the creation of equal opportunity along with growth for all. To balance the scales of this growth, the Gujarat Government then worked towards empowering its citizens along with a redistribution mechanism for the welfare of the poorer sections of the population. All of this, while the government continued to invest in physical infrastructure across the state and it smartly used the dividends from such investments to further fund investments in human development. The last four years of Modi Government has also witnessed a similar model being put in place in India as the government works towards the creation of a level playing field while it invests on social, physical and human capital.

The article, perhaps due to the bias of the author mentions how Prime Minister made tall promises that were impossible to achieve. Some of the promises he cites are regarding the training of apprentices to service the manufacturing sector or providing internet to 600,000 villages shortly. He also mentions the cleanliness of the River Ganga and the target of construction of 10 crore toilets. Here’s the thing, what he thought to be impossible has been achieved.

Over 13,000 training centres have been operationalized for the sole purpose of skill development and vocational training. On the other hand, under the digital India program, the government has already laid 3,05,824 KMs of optical fibre across 1.22 lakh Gram Panchayats in India. It is interesting to note that in 2014 this was only a little over 300 KMs so a bulk of the optical fibre laid was under the current government.

Similarly, for toilets over 9 crore toilets have already been constructed since the launch of the Swachh Bharat Mission while the river Ganga has witnessed the revival of its aquatic life due to the efforts of this government.

To be fair, whenever this government has tried to launch an ambitious project, most commentators including domestic journalists have tried to write it off by calling the targets as “impossible”. However, evidence has consistently demonstrated that this is a government that means business, and this is a government that shows up for work! It is this attitude of setting tall targets and working towards achieving them which is largely responsible for the remarkable development that India has experienced over the last four and a half years. In 2014, nobody in India thought that twenty-four by seven electricity would one day become a reality not just for those who live in big cities but for everyone across the country. With 100 per cent rural electrification done, it is only a matter of time that the basic need for electricity is democratized just as access to improved cooking gas is.

While certain journalists and commentators may continue to be biased due to their preconceived notions about India and its current Prime Minister, if one has to take an objective view of India’s development then they must come and travel to the 18,000 plus villages that received electricity for the first time since independence or visit the state capitals of Meghalaya, Mizoram and Tripura that were put on India’s rail map for the first time. With a billion aspirations on the rise, India is finally on a path towards rapid development for all sections of the society and one has to credit this government for bringing about the change that India desperately needed.

I was a Modi supporter, but with the entry of Priyanka Gandhi into active politics, I am all for Congress now

I am a Congress child, which means, I grew up watching Congress shred the country into bits and relish the destruction. They were the greatest rulers in the world since Emperor Nero. They fiddled, while the country burnt. But as they say, a Baniya is mostly concerned about their ‘galla’ and hence, for the longest time, I ran my own business. But my heart, that damned heart was more into writing.

I liked the lines of a notepad far more than I liked the dotted lines of the chequebook. I started off with some recreational writing on some blog and then, short commentaries on Twitter. I think I was liked. I like to believe I was liked.

A couple of guys approached me one day and asked me to write for OpIndia. It was a good website and exuded passion. It didn’t have the resources of the left but it survived, somehow. Which is an amusing commentary on its own because a baniya gave up her ‘galla’ to work at a bankrupt ‘right-wing’ portal that believed in capitalism and wrote against the socialists and communists who had all the money in the world to transform idiotic porcupines into Pulitzer worthy writers. OpIndia wanted to be different from the rest, and boy it was.

I got sucked into this job. The passion of it all. The thought of writing to further an ideology that had so far, been abused and branded by the wine sipping elites. I believed in it truly. With all my heart. Quite un-baniya-esque, but that’s how it really was.

Next thing I knew, I got sucked into this job, head first. I became editor of the portal. I became a journalist. I have a new profession now.

I did a good job I think. After I joined, OpIndia became a better brand. It got better rankings and traffic. I have close to 180 bylines and god alone knows how many staff reports. I travelled to Chhattisgarh to interview a surrendered Naxal and that became quite the hit. The Naxal revealed that ‘Urban Naxals’ was not just a term invented by a filmmaker for fun. I broke a story about suspected financial impropriety of Congress leader Kapil Sibal (almost got sued for it and it might not seem so, but that I got threatened and no lawsuit eventually, is quite the victory), we broke the story about Ashok Gehlot’s brother’s fertilizer scam, a financial impropriety story by another Congress guy, I got offered to “meet and settle” (we all know what that means) by someone (whose name I won’t divulge) and I had the courage to say “f*uck off” in parliamentary language and as a brand, OpIndia managed to bring BBC to its knees about their shoddy research and get some other portals to retract their stories. I also erred, and I apologized and made amends when it was pointed out.

I thought we were ok.

But I didn’t get the Ramnath Goenka Award.

And today, I didn’t get even a Padma Shri like Rajdeep Sardesai, Barkha and the other good journalists.

I was failing.

I started wondering. I started looking at the greats in the field of journalism and after observing them for a while now, I have recently realised I don’t have it in me to become a good journalist.

You see, journalists are supposed to be “neutral”, that is, they are supposed to despise the Prime Minister with every fibre of their being. You see, journalists shouldn’t have an ideology other than radical communism and most certainly, journalists are meant to support the very forces that are out to break this country into tiny little bits and sell the pieces off for a neat little profit. They are supposed to look away when politics is taken over by non-achievers simply because they belong to a family. Good journalists are meant to transform themselves into minstrels in the court of the clowns.

Journalists are not supposed to be cheerleaders. They are supposed to ask tough questions like a leaders’ relationship with her mother-in-law, so on and so forth.

Journalists are supposed to love the more charismatic, smarter and more dynamic Gandhi.

To top it all, I had no intention to view the gullible, sentimental, stupid right-wingers as some sort of a stepping stone, just to turn around and spit in their face. That quality, that quality is priceless. It takes one places.

And to make my nightmare just a little worse, I was working hard and not resting on my past laurels. OpIndia was actually thinking about what it truly believed in and not what might fill up its pockets.

My boss would tell me I should get fired because of one thing or the other. Even in jest, it would make me realise that receiving feedback is futile. That my hard work is hardly recognised because my boss is worse than I am.

And then it hit me. What if I actually do get fired? I have made some powerful enemies in the mainstream media and I have antagonised even the Congress, including the more charismatic and less charismatic brother-sister duo. My journalism career would be over. Shattered. Forget the Ramnath Goenka award, I wouldn’t even be able to hanker for a Rajya Sabha nomination like most other GOOD journalists. I would work and perish as a new journalist and never have the chance to get away with idiocy by flashing my seniority card.

Two emotions overpower me right now – job insecurity and a wish to win awards like the ‘liberals’ do.

So here I am. Declaring that I am neutral. Declaring that I actually like the more charismatic and smarter Gandhi (I don’t dislike the less smart Gandhi either). Here I am declaring that she is a game-changer and the Gandhi gene’s gift to humanity (and journalism, yes, journalism).

I am hereby declaring, with all the intellectual, suave English speaking power at my disposal, that I am now a Priyanka Gandhi fan.

P.S. – The Print, The Wire, and Scroll can republish this. You guys rock!

In the hustle and bustle of the day, it is only natural to miss some of the biggest developments that impact the nation. The OpIndia Evening Dispatch will catch you up on the day’s event even if you have been busy thus far.

1. Padma Bhushan for Nambi Narayan, scientist whose life was destroyed by India’s ‘secular’ govts

In the 1990s, Nambi Narayanan was one of India’s top scientists, working on the indigenous cryogenic engine. Earlier, India had tried to buy some of this technology from the Russians, but the Americans fought tooth and nail and blocked it.

In 1994, Nambi Narayanan was suddenly accused of being a spy and leaking sensitive rocket information to foreign agents. He was arrested and thrown into jail. His career was over. With his arrest, India’s dream of building an indigenous cryogenic engine was set back by decades.

Nambi Narayanan, who was awarded the Padma Bhushan yesterday. Read more about him and how he was hounded.

2. Fact Check: Is the newspaper clip headlined ‘Rajiv Gandhi’s daughter joins family firm’ genuine?

After Priyanka Gandhi’s appointment as Congress party General Secretary of Uttar Pradesh East, a newspaper clip went viral on social media. The article printed in a newspaper reports the elevation of Priyanka Gandhi Vadra with a rather unusual headline, “Rajiv Gandhi’s daughter joins family firm”.

But is the clip referring to the Congress party as ‘family firm’ true? We have seen several cases of fake newspaper clips circulated on social media. Therefore, we decided to check if this particular news item was genuine or fake.

3 ‘Timing of the award might be misconstrued’: CM Naveen Patnaik’s sister, Gita Mehta, declines Padma award

New York-based author and Odisha chief minister Naveen Patnaik’s sister Gita Mehta has declined to accept the prestigious Padma Shri award that the Narendra Modi led government had conferred on her claiming that the timing of the award just months before elections may be “misconstrued”.

Gita Mehta in a statement has said that accepting the award at this time will embarrass both her and the government. “I am deeply honoured that the Government of India should think me worthy of a Padma Shri but with great regret I feel I must decline as there is a general election looming and the timing of the award might be misconstrued, causing embarrassment both to the Government and myself, which I would much regret,” the statement said.

4. AgustaWestland case: Lawyer Gautam Khaitan arrested by ED on money laundering charges

Lawyer Gautam Khaitan, a co-accused in the Agusta Westland Chopper scam has been arrested by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) on charges of money laundering. Earlier, sleuths had raided several offices and premises related to Khaitan in the Delhi-NCR area. Per reports, the sleuths have uncovered evidence that Gautam Khaitan not only got kickbacks in the AgustaWestland chopper scam but also in various other defence deals during the Congress era.

Gautam Khaitan has been chargesheeted by both the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) and the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in the AgustaWestland Chopper scam where the direct involvement of the Congress party and the Gandhis is suspected.

5. Twitter suspends young boy’s account after he was doxxed and harassed by AltNews founder Pratik Sinha and Islamists

Altnews founder Pratik Sinha today stirred a hornet’s nest after he doxxed several unsuspecting users on Twitter simply because he did not agree with their political views.

Hours after Sinha disclosed the identities of these anonymous accounts, a barrage of threats and invectives have started being hurled at them, evidently by coordinated Islamist radicals online opposing the ideology professed by these social media users. One of the influencers, who goes by the Twitter handle of @squintneon, has already started receiving threats from online jihadists, abusing him and forewarning him of dire consequences since his identity is now established.

Now, in a strange twist of events, after being doxxed and hounded by AltNews founder Pratik Sinha and receiving death threats by the trolls that were unleashed on him, Twitter has chosen to suspend SquintNeon’s account instead of acting against trolls like Pratik.

6. Fact-check: On Republic Day 2019, Sitaram Yechury lies about the Constitution of India

On the 70th anniversary of India’s Republic Day, many politicians including the Communist Party of India’s chief Sitaram Yechury took to Twitter to convey their greetings to the Nation. However, his message has had a subtle underlying tone implying that the government is not preserving the sanctity of the Constitution which was enacted on 26th January 1950 and in the process, ended up lying and misrepresenting facts.

The CPI(M) chief in his tweet claimed that India, through its Constitution declared itself Sovereign, Socialist, and Secular 69 years ago. This is partially true. India declared itself Sovereign but Socialist and Secular were not mentioned in the initial Preamble of the Constitution. Staying loyal to his communist roots, Yechury also cleverly dropped ‘DEMOCRATIC’ from his tweet.

7. MP Minister fails to read properly, asks the Collector to finish the Republic Day speech on her behalf

On the occasion of Republic Day celebrations in the country, a bizarre event took place in Madhya Pradesh (MP) which has caused huge embarrassment for the Congress party after Imarti Devi, Woman and Child Development Minister, failed to read her Republic Day speech and instead asked the district collector Bharat Yadav to continue her speech.

A video of the incident has been shared by the news agency ANI, has now gone viral on social media, in which it can be seen that the Congress leader Imarti Devi finding difficult to read her speech after which she stopped and said ” Collector saheb padhenge (collector will read)”.

8. Shocking comments from Former Kerala DGP on Nambi Narayanan: ‘Rapists and murders will also get Padma awards next year’

Former Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) scientist Nambi Narayanan has been awarded Padma Bhushan for his exemplary service to the nation. However, reacting to the NDA government’s decision to award Narayanan, Former Kerala DGP TP Senkumar has said that even rapists could get an award in the future.

In shocking statements, former Kerala DGP has criticised the decision to award the former ISRO scientist with Padma Bhushan, while resorting to derogatory abuse and comparing Narayanan with rape and murder convicts. Senkumar went on to claim that giving Narayanan that award was like “a drop of poison in the nectar.”

Family of Chandan Gupta, killed during Tiranga Yatra on Republic Day last year, honoured by UP government

0

Last year on the Republic Day, a young boy named Chandan Gupta was killed in Kasaganj in UP during a clash when he was participating in a Tiranga Yatra. In the Republic Day parade organised in the police line in Kasganj this year, the family of deceased Chandan was honoured by the state government. Sushil Gupta, the father of Chandan, was offered a memento as a mark of tribute by Suresh Pasi, Minister in charge of the district. District Magistrate R P Singh also paid tribute to Chandan.

Following the demands from Chandan’s family, the Minister in charge of the district and the District Magistrate announced that a chowk or intersection in the town will be named after Chandan. The chowk will be called ‘Chandan Chowk’. A Committee will be set up to decide which intersection to be developed as Chandan Chowk.

Along with these, Chandan’s sister Kirti has been offered a contractual job with the government, the minister informed.

Tight security arrangements were made in Kasganj this time to avoid any untoward incident. RAF, PAC and Police force were deployed in public areas.

Last year the members of Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP), the student of wing of RSS, were attacked while taking out the Tiranga Yatra on the Republic Day through a Muslim locality. The chants of ‘Vande Mataram’ and ‘Bharat Mata ki Jai’ by the ABVP members irked some people of a particular community which sparked violence and resulted in the death of 16 year old Chandan.

Pranab Mukherjee awarded Bharat Ratna because he visited RSS headquarters: JD(s) leader Danish Ali

Belittling the Bharat Ratna conferred on former President Pranab Mukherjee, Janata Dal (Secular) leader Danish Ali has alleged that the former President is awarded the Bharat Ratna because he had visited the RSS headquarters in Nagpur and had praised RSS ideologue K B Hedgewar. “Pranab Mukherjee is being awarded the Bharat Ratna because he visited the RSS headquarters and described the founding Sarsanghchalak chief, K B Hedgewar, as ‘the son of the soil’,” Ali said.

Ali went to the extent of saying that there were more deserving candidates than the former President in the field of politics like Biju Patnaik and Kanshi Ram who worked for the masses. Ali demanded that Sri Sri Shivakumara Swami, the Swani of Siddaganga mutt who recently passed away, should be conferred with Bharat Ratna. “We protest this as Sri Sri Shivakumara Swami of Siddaganga has not been conferred the award. Swamiji was a legend and had worked towards the social welfare of people all his life,” he added.

He threatened the BJP that the party would be taught a lesson by the people of Karnataka for not conferring the award on Shivakumara Swami.

Yesterday the government of India had announced that the Bharat Ratna will be conferred on Nanaji Deshmukh, Bhupen Hazarika and Pranab Mukherjee.
