Kerala Bishop accused of rape had organized peace march against Kathua rape

The dubious candlelight vigils and placard activism have yet again shown the hypocrisy of certain individuals who have been at the forefront of committing heinous crimes. This time, it is the rape accused Bishop who had not only organised a protest march against Kathua rape but also used it to further his political agenda.

Reportedly, Franco Mulakkal, the Bishop of Jalandhar diocese, who himself is accused of raping and having unnatural sex with a nun had organised a peace procession to demand justice for Kathua rape victim. The special prayer meeting which was held in Jalandhar was attended by the Congress MLA Rajinder Beri.

The peace event organised by the rape accused Bishop had also been used as a political march as there were banners and placards taking a dig at the Centre mentioning “cow safe, deer safe, girls….?”. It is indeed ironical to know that the Bishop, accused of raping a nun multiple times, had led a march in the past to fight the honour of the women.

Addressing the meeting, the rape accused Bishop had said that it was the duty of all people to protect women. “We condemn the incidents of rape and crimes against women and urge the government to ensure their safety and security”. In the presence of a Congress lawmaker, the Bishop had also used the platform to spread a political message against the ruling NDA government by saying that there was some prevailing conditions of anxiety and had asked all the minorities to be united.

Franco Mulakkal, Bishop of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Jalandhar, is said to have raped her at a guest house in Kuravilangad in May 2014 and exploited her sexually on several other occasions. The nun has registered a complaint in June this year and has been allegedly threatened by the accused of doing so. The congregation has also stood by the rape accused and referred to him as an “innocent soul”. We had also reported that Kerala MLA PC George had called the alleged rape victim a ‘prostitute’.

Watch: Rafale deal to not be cancelled: Finance Minister Arun Jaitley to ANI

0

Finance Minister Arun Jaitley today told the news agency ANI that irrespective of the allegations, Rafale deal will fall through and it will not be cancelled.

In this interview, Jaitley says, some statements are given with an intention to create controversy. But some statements are such that situation and circumstances prove them wrong and such statements have no credibility. “French government has said that our former president is not giving a true statement. Dassault had decided who would be the offset manufacturing partner. Dassault said they decided the partners and Indian government has nothing to do with our decision. Their own government and their own company has refuted the claims of former president,” Jaitley said.

Elaborating on the why this speculations could have risen, Jaitley said, “Everyone knows Reliance split into two. One Reliance (led by Mukesh Ambani) was that which in 2012, when there was a possibility of a contract of 126 aircrafts, signed a contract for Rafale with the same Dassault. Was that also corruption? Were Rahul Gandhi and Sonia Gandhi favouring Reliance? Secondly, that Reliance (after split) did not get into defence equipment, the other Reliance (led by Anil Ambani) did. So it is natural that if in 2014 a new deal is signed, all defence manufacturing companies involved in offset manufacturing bid for the same. So if a private Indian company gets into this offset manufacturing contract, what is the problem? Indian government has not put forward anyone’s name. Dassault has also asserted that all the companies in the contract are chosen by them.”

On former French President Hollande’s claims, he said, “On first day, Hollande said that the French government had no role to play, the name (selecting Reliance as offset manufacturing partner) came from India. If it is true, it is a serious accusation. Second day, in Montreal, AFP asked him were you aware that the recommendation of Reliance came from Indian government. To that Hollande responded by saying he is not aware and directed to question Dassault. Then he said ‘the partners chose themselves’. So what is he even trying to say? It is notable that he issued his first statement in the background of allegations of conflict of interest being by the media in France. So he said it while defending himself. So in light of all this, should we halt the preparedness of the armed forces?”

On Rahul Gandhi’s allegations that the ‘chowkidar of India is a chor’, Jaitley said, “Public discourse is not a laughter challenge. One day you go and hug someone, then you wink at someone, then you keep issuing wrong statements. In a democracy, there are allegations and counter allegations. But your words should also make sense. Bringing down the public discourse does not suit the world’s largest democracy.”

On 31th August, Rahul Gandhi had tweeted, “This #Rafale aircraft really does fly far and fast! It’s also going to drop some big bunker buster bombs in the next couple of weeks.”

Hollande’s statement came just few days after the above tweet. Jaitley questioned how did Rahul Gandhi know that there is trouble brewing in France? One day Hollande makes a statement, next day he retreats, but Rahul Gandhi predicts it 20 days in advance. This raises questions.

Yesterday, Congress President Rahul Gandhi had held a press conference and even tweeted that Rafale is a Rs. 1,30,000 crore scam.

“What is the scam? Indian Air Force will get 36 jets which have weaponised capacity,” said Jaitley. Recounting the Kargil War, he said, “During Kargil War, when enemy was on the mountain, and we were using Bofors 155 mm guns on them, it took us 3 months to bring down 500-600 Pakistani soldiers. If we had Rafale which could hit the target from a distance of 100-150 kms away, then it would have been a two day operation. Hence, it is not a scam but a requirement of the Indian Air Force and the money we are investing will strengthen Indian Air Force. These are the aircraft which China already has and Pakistan has started manufacturing. And the same aircraft which on which Congress sat for 10 years and delayed procurement.

Concluding the interview, he said, “The Rafale deal is a government to government deal and is very important for the country. These jets are coming to India… They are required for Indian defence. They will enhance the combat ability of the Indian Air Force.”

Indian Mujahideen mastermind and Mumbai blast case accused Khurshid Alam shot dead in Nepal

0

As per reports, Principal of a private school in Nepal’s Sunsari district, who was shot dead by unknown bike-borne assailants on 20th September, has been identified as the chieftain of Indian Mujahideen terror outfit.

Khurshid Alam, the ringleader of the terrorist outfit, who was suspected to be involved in the 1993 Mumbai attack, was working as the Principal of Raiyan National School. Alam was shot in his head, abdomen and legs and died on the spot. The attackers fled the site, which is seven kilometre from the Indian territory.

A high-level police source confirmed to ANI that, “he is publicly identified as Khurshid Alam. He was on the radar of Indian Intelligence as he was suspected to be involved in the 1993 Mumbai attack. The Indian government, about two decades ago, requested the Nepal government to hand over him to them which could not happen as Nepal denied.”

At the time when Bamdev Gautam of the then Communist Party of Nepal- Unified Marxist Leninist (CPN-UML) was the Home Minister, India had urged Nepal to hand him over. The Indian government, at that time, in co-operation with the Intelligence Bureau, had also given the location details and other relevant information to the Nepal government, informing that Alam was involved in terrorist activities. But Bamdev Gautam had then rejected the Indian government’s proposal to hand him over. Alam was a member of the CPN-UML party.

Alam, who was also a cleric, had sheltered four other terrorists who were involved in the Mumbai attack and helped them to flee to the Middle East by arranging false passports for them.

Recently in February this year, Delhi police after arresting Ariz Khan, a suspected Indian Mujahideen terrorist who was allegedly involved in the Mumbai bomb blast had made a shocking revelation that the two terrorist organisations, Indian Mujahideen (IM) and the Students Islamic Movement of India (SIMI) have allegedly set up their base in Nepal and the operatives are frequently visiting India to indoctrinate unemployed youth into their community to fill the void left after the arrest of top leaders of IM and SIMI.

The NIA recently filed a supplementary charge sheet against 17 absconding accused of IM. Entering the country through the Indo-Nepal border, the plan is to revive the old team of these terror outfits who have been declared absconding by the security agencies.

Fact Check: Here are facts of the Rafale deal that are being selectively ignored by politicians

As the election season approaches, Rahul Gandhi has determined that the Rafale deal is the best strategy to corner Narendra Modi government and every day he and his party is making numerous accusations about the deal. And these accusations are being further circulated on mainstream media and social media. Many people forward such messages thinking that to be true, without knowing the fact.

In that context, it is important to look at some of these accusations in an objective manner.

Has Modi taken away the contract to make Rafale in India from HAL and given it to Reliance?

No. This allegation is totally false. The 36 jets that India will be purchasing from France, will be 100% manufactured in France. India is buying them off-the-shelf. Not a single Rafale jet will be manufactured in India. So the question of either HAL or Reliance making it in India does not even arise. If India decides to buy any more Rafale fighters, they may be made in India in future, but that will be under a separate agreement.

Has Anil Ambani got a contract worth US$ 20 billion?

No. India will pay US $8.9 billion for the 36 fighter jets. And as per offset obligations imposed by India, Dassault will have to invest back 50% in India. Although Rahul Gandhi had initially alleged that Reliance will benefit by US$ 4 billion, approximately the entire offset amount, later he added US$ 16 billion for “Rafale lifecycle Contract” that Reliance was supposed to get.

No so-called “lifecycle” contract has been signed by anyone, no such deal exists. This is purely a falsehood of ‘Clown Prince’ as Arun Jaitley has christened him recently. And no, Reliance is not getting the entire value of offset investment either. Both US$ 20 billion and US$ 4 billion figures are baseless.

Is Reliance is the sole partner of Dassault in India for the Rafale deal?

No. Reliance is not the only business house that Dassault has partnered with for the offset obligation. So far, Dassault has finalised agreements with 72 different companies to supply various products and services. One company among those 72 is Dassault Reliance Aerospace. The list of Indian Offset Partners of Dassault includes other Indian business groups like L&T, Mahindra Group, Kalyani Group, Godrej & Boyce, Tata group etc. As per the offset clause, Dassault is free to select partners as per its need. And it is not necessary that the offset partners will have to work on the Rafale project only, they can work on any project by Dassault.

Dassault is negotiating with tens of other companies for contracts. A jet plane is an extremely complex machine, with thousands of different parts, each manufactured to perfection, that comes from hundreds of different companies. Aircraft manufacturers source their components from all over the world. Even if there was no offset obligation, Dassault will still have to source parts from numerous companies, the offset obligation ensures that some of those companies are from India. Which increases investment in the country, leads to job creation, and help in overall growth in the economy.

One significant name in the list is Snecma HAL Aerospace Ltd. It is a joint venture between Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd (HAL) and Snecma (Safran) of France. This joint venture will make parts for Rafale jet’s Snecma M88 engine. Therefore, the allegation that HAL has been completely left out is false. As the jets will be made in France, only some parts of that will be made in India as per offset obligation, and HAL is already a part of that.

Why choose Reliance who has no experience in defence and aircraft manufacturing?

The Reliance arm in the joint venture is Reliance Defence, which was formed after Reliance group purchased Pipavav Defence, which is in the business of building warships and other vessels for the Indian navy. This means the company does have experience in the defence sector. Indian defence sector has been opened for private businesses only recently. That’s why only a few companies have limited experience in this field, that too in making components, not full products. It may be noted during the earlier round of bidding for MMRCA during UPA government, Dassault had tied up with Mukesh Ambani’s Reliance Aerospace, which was a newly formed company without any experience in defence or aircraft business.

So what is the deal with Reliance?

The 36 Rafales will not be made in India, so it’s a no-brainer that Reliance will not be making that. But the interesting point is, they are not even making parts for it. Yes, at present Dassault Reliance Aerospace is not even making parts for Rafale like HAL and some Indian companies will be doing, forget the whole plane. The company is making parts for the Falcon 2000 civil jet plane that is manufactured by Dassault Aviation. This company is now part of the global supply chain network of Dassault, and they have already started manufacturing parts and sending them to assembly plants. Dassault will be investing around € 100 million in the joint venture with Reliance as part of offset obligations related to the Rafale deal, which is less than 3% of the total offset obligation. Reliance is not getting US$20 billion or even US$4 billion as Rahul Gandhi seems to believe, the current investment is less than USD$ 120 million.

This is the current position. In future Dassault will get some parts for Rafale made in Dassault Reliance Aerospace, as the company has mentioned in their counter to the allegations of ex-French president Hollande, just like dozens of other offset partners will make various Rafale parts. Reliance has also signed a JV with Thales, which is a major component supplier of Rafale and they also have offset obligations. At present their investment with Reliance is not known. Therefore in future Reliance’s share in offset investment will go up, but that will never be US$ 20 billion or even US$ 4 billion, that is because several other offset partners are there.

What was Hollande’s allegation?

Basically, nothing. First, French magazine Mediapart quoted the former French President as saying that the government of India had suggested Reliance to France. Following that statement, the French government and Dassault Aviation issued statements. The French government said that they have nothing to do with the deal between Dassault and Reliance. Dassault said that there was no pressure and Dassault had chosen Reliance on their own. Following this, Associated French Press quoted Hollande saying that he is not aware of any pressure applied by the Indian government and France has nothing to do with the deal. That if any pressure was applied, only Dassault can say. Dassault, as already mentioned, had already denied these allegations.

Yes, Anil Ambani got a contract for making parts for a legacy business jet that aviation operators and high net worth individuals buy, not a modern 4.5 generation Medium Multi-Role Combat Aircraft that Indan government is buying.

Hollande says ‘France did not choose Reliance’ when asked if there was pressure from India: AFP

0

A fresh political slugfest had ensued in India after a statement from the former French president Francois Hollande that the Indian government had manipulated the Rafale deal to benefit Anil Ambani. Yesterday, an article in a French website Mediapart had quoted Hollande as saying that the government of India had proposed that the Anil Ambani owned Reliance Defence should be the service provider to Dassault in the mega-deal. Following the allegations, the French government and Dassault released statements refuting these claims. The French government said that they had no role in the selection process, and Dassault asserted that they had decided to partner with Reliance on their own.

However, Hollande seems to have a different version altogether too. As reported by Associate French Press (AFP), Hollande has asserted that he has no idea if there was any pressure from the Indian government to choose Reliance.

The AFP report says (emphasis added):

Speaking to AFP on the sidelines of a meeting in Canada on Friday, the former French leader insisted that France “did not choose Reliance in any way“.

When asked whether India had put pressure on Reliance and Dassault to work together, Hollande said he was unaware and “only Dassault can comment on this”.

The Former French President told AFP that he is unaware of any pressure to partner with Reliance and this question can only be answered by Dassault Aviation. Incidentally, as we reported earlier, Dassault Aviation too has issued a statement that there was no interference and the decision to partner with Reliance was solely theirs.

The report also states the former President saying:

Hollande denied any conflict of interest with Reliance, which partially financed a film produced by his girlfriend Julie Gayet in 2016.

“That is why, moreover, this group (Reliance) did not have to give me any thanks for anything. I could not even imagine that there was any connection to a film by Julie Gayet.”

Now, with former President of France Hollande saying that he is unaware of any pressure applied by the Indian government and Dassault too saying that there was no pressure, one wonders if the charge led by Congress would stick.

Manipur University: At least 80 students and 6 professors arrested after campus unrest

0

At least 80 students and 6 professors of Manipur University were arrested by the Police early on Friday after a complaint was filed by the Vice Chancellor’s Office of the University alleging that the VC in-charge, K. Yugindro Singh, was prevented from taking charge. The Police were forced to fire tear gas shells to disperse the crowd when massive protests erupted in the campus.

Manipur University has been gripped by unrest over the past few months with students and teachers demanding the removal of Vice Chancellor, A.P. Pandey, over financial and administrative irregularities. At one point of time, the University was shut down for 3 months. Normalcy returned after a fact-finding committee was set up to look into the allegations against Pandey who was suspended on the 17th of September.

IGP L Kailun said that Singh had stated in his complaint that the students and teachers had ‘gheraoed’ him for trying to assume the position of acting Vice-Chancellor. “The students, who had exams scheduled for the day, gheraoed the professor and forced him to write a written apology over his appointment as the acting VC,” he said, quoting Singh’s complaint.

Former chief minister Okram Ibobi Singh of the Congress party reportedly condemned the arrest of the students and professors. He said, “We strongly condemn the raid inside the campus. This dictatorship cannot be tolerated by the Congress in this democratic country.”

Former deputy chief minister Gaikhangam said, “The action of security forces on the university campus is a challenge to democracy, which is more serious than a declaration of emergency in the state. This reign of terror should be stopped. No force can stand against the people’s voice.”

Some students are reported to have been injured during the confrontation with the Police. Internet services have been suspended in Manipur for five days in light of the law and order situation to prevent the spreading of rumours.

Subramanian Swamy slams Sonia Gandhi, P Chidambaram: Claims they had ‘offered help to LTTE’

0

BJP MP and eminent legal activist Subramanian Swamy has levelled serious allegations on Sonia Gandhi and P Chidambaram. Swamy has alleged that Sonia Gandhi and P Chidambaram had conspired to help LTTE chief Prabhakaran when Mahinda Rajapaksa led Sri Lankan government was exterminating LTTE.

In a Tweet shared on September 20, Subramanian Swamy has alleged that TDK (a term Swamy uses for Sonia Gandhi) had sent a message (through P Chidambaram) to LTTE chief Prabhakaran that the Indian Navy would come and rescue him.

According to a report in the Daily Pioneer, Swamy has also stated that the India Navy ship which was due to reach Sri Lanka could not leave Indian waters because of stiff opposition from highest authorities. Since the war against LTTE was at its final stage, Prabhakaran could not be notified about the change of plans and was eventually killed.

Swamy’s statement has come at the wake of the recent visit of former Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapaksa, who was on a visit to India last week.

It is notable here that Subramanian Swamy has been a great supporter of the former Sri Lankan President and vocally praises his decisive war against the LTTE in 2009 which resulted in the total extermination of the terrorist group from Sri Lanka. In 2012 too, during a visit to the island nation, Swamy had reportedly stated that Rajapaksa is a resolute and determined leader and he deserves to be awarded India’s highest civilian honour, the Bharat Ratna for eliminating LTTE. During the visit, Swamy had also stated that Sonia Gandhi and her ‘Italian family’ had provided covert support to LTTE.

Swamy is currently pursuing a case against Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi for alleged corruption in the National Herald scam

Kerala nun rape case: court rejects Bishop Franco’s bail application, to be in police custody till Sep 24

0

As per latest reports, Bishop Franco Mulakkal’s bail application was rejected and he was sent to police custody till 24th September. The 54-year-old clergyman was produced in a magistrate court in Pala.

Despite the initial delay in the arrest of the Bishop, Kerala police acted subsequently upon the incriminating pieces of evidence present against Bishop Franco Mulakkal of the Archdiocese of Jalandhar, Punjab, for allegedly raping a nun from Kerala on multiple occasions and the complaints filed by the victim alleging that she has been receiving death threats since she had filed the complaint against the Bishop.

He was earlier discharged from the government hospital in the city where he was admitted following complaints of chest pain, officials sources said. He had complained of pain in his chest while being taken to Kottayam Police club from the Crime Branch office in Thrippunithura in Ernakulam district Friday night, they said. After being kept under medical supervision for over 6 hours and cardiac-related tests performed, his condition is said to be normal.

A nun from Kerala had accused Bishop Franco Mulakkal, the Bishop of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Jalandhar to have raped her at a guest house in Kuravilangad in May 2014 and exploited her sexually on several other occasions. The nun had registered a complaint before the Kottayam district Police chief Harishankar in June this year.

The nun had further alleged that she had approached the Syro-Malabar Church authorities over the matter but no action was taken against the Bishop which made her approach the Police.

The Bishop had also registered a complaint against the nun accusing her of blackmailing him after disciplinary action was initiated against her. The Bishop also alleged that the nun’s family had threatened to entrap him in a rape case if he did not withdraw the order against her.

Mulakkal, wrote to the Vatican on Sunday asking to step down temporarily as protests and calls for his arrest grew. The Vatican accepted his request on Thursday.

For the first time in the history, the nuns have come together to castigate the Bishop for his abhorrent deed. Meanwhile, there are people like PC George, an independent MLA from Kerala, who clearly displayed his insensitivity and inhumanity towards woman by referring to the nun who has accused the bishop of rape as ‘prostitute’ and even questioned her character. With all the evidence being out in the open the Missionaries of Jesus Congregation too has added insult to injury by calling the rape accused Bishop Franco Mulakkal “an innocent soul” and said he cannot be crucified “based on such allegations”.

Want to avoid a jail term ? Here are the top excuses by the masters of the game

0

Mehul Choksi, one of India’s biggest fugitive billionaires has come up with yet another brilliant excuse for not returning to India in his appeal in a Mumbai court against the unbailable warrant issued against him by CBI. Choksi, as per reports, has claimed that he has threats to his life.

The threat perception has emerged from TV show callers. As per reports, Choksi’s lawyer has added further ‘evidence’ in his petition claiming that a caller on a TV debate stated that a special group of secret agents should be formed to track Choksi down and shoot him. The petition also lists that another caller on the same show also stated that Choksi should be shot and the anchor, instead of denouncing the statements, went ahead and laughed at them.

If these excuses feel too imaginative, here is what Choksi has claimed in his petition previously: He had appealed that since there are increasing cases of mob-lynching in India, Choksi fears for his life because his company has shut operations, the employees and debtors have not been paid. Choksi had appealed that he fears the people who have grievances against him will mob-lynch him.

Crafty excuses for avoiding jail term are not new in India. Recently, Vijay Mallya, another billionaire absconder, had appealed in UK courts that he cannot come back to India because Indian jails are ‘too gareeb’ for him. The CBI actually did a ‘face-lift’ of the prison cell meant for him in Pune’s Arthur Road jail. The jail cell now has a TV set, washing area, private toilet, access to a library and courtyard, natural lights and many such facilities. Though it may still be gareeb for a man who had a USD 93 million super luxury yacht named Indian Empress harboured in Malta.

Indian politicians, who otherwise enjoy excellent health and long careers, are known to develop ‘chest pain’ as soon as they are arrested. However crafty and cunning we think the politicians are, their excuses still look puny before our billionaires. After all, they are billionaires for a reason.

Take Mehul Choksi for example. While Mallya’s excuses can be criticised as ‘privileged, elitist, holier than thou etc, Choksi’s excuses are taken right off the Indian secular liberal playbook. Mob lynching to death threats from unknown persons, can the Indian media dare to even disagree? After all, this is exactly what we have been hearing from most media outlets since Modi Ji became PM to give them all a ‘chest pain’.

Choksi seems to have a keen observation of India’s political and social scenario. His excuses are just too politically correct. Looking at the ones he has used so far, we would not be surprised if he uses these excuses in near-future:

  1. Looking at the devastating floods in several Indian states, there is a threat to my life as I might be mistaken for a floatation device.
  2. I am afraid Dr Batra will spam my inbox to death with claims to cure my baldness
  3. The ED has seized all my gems, what will I do if they offer me Cadbury Gems to humiliate me?
  4. At least in Antigua, nobody says ‘Aapko Kaisa Mehsoos ho Raha hai’ when you are in Jail.
  5. I am afraid that now Punjab National Bank will extract its revenge on me by calling me incessantly to avail their credit card.
  6. I would definitely die if Bollywood decides to make a biopic on my life and lets Farah Khan direct it.
  7. What if CBI officials fit cameras in my jail cell and play ‘Big Boss’ with me?
  8. I am a scammer of diamonds and gold, I have class, what if to humiliate me, the CBI throws me in jail with gutkha and fodder scammers?

It is a shame that India is still called a developing country. Looking at the sheer number of Indian billionaires roaming around in the world, we should be perceived as a rich nation with rich absconders.

Twitter reacts to Imran Khan’s haughty statement against India

India recently called off the proposed talks between MEA Sushma Swaraj and Pakistan foreign minister at the sidelines of the upcoming UNGA meeting in the United States after kidnapping and killing of three policemen in Jammu and Kashmir’s Shopian.

The newly elected Prime Minister of Pakistan, Imran Khan, is mighty displeased with the decision. He took to Twitter to say, “all my life I have come across small men occupying big offices who do not have the vision to see the larger picture.”

Indians were amused with the haughty statement issued by Imran Khan who is widely believed to have been elected Prime Minister with assistance from the Pakistani Military and took potshots at the former cricketer.

Others called on Prime Minister Modi to revoke Pakistan’s MFN status in light of the insulting tweet.

People are concluding after Imran Khan’s tweet that the relationship between the two countries is likely to go further downhill from here.

Imran Khan’s tweet gives one the impression that Pakistan does not regret funding terror organizations in its proxy war against India. His tweet is also a slap on the face of Opposition political leaders like Navjot Singh Sidhu who were overly optimistic about Imran Khan assuming the mantle of Prime Minister of Pakistan. After attending his oath-taking ceremony and hugging the Pakistani Army Chief, it will be interesting to see how Sidhu reacts after Khan insulted India’s democratically elected Prime Minister.
