Watch: Anubhav Sinha blaming Union minister ‘felicitating rioting Hindus’ for Muslims becoming terrorists

0

It is a rule universally accepted that if a movie is about to be released, nothing ensures a box office hit like a controversial statement right before its release. Just say something bizarre or outrage-worthy or in certain cases, ‘take up a cause and be ashamed of being a Hindu‘ to save some of the marketing expenditure.

Latest to join the bandwagon is flop filmmaker Anubhav Sinha, who perhaps hopes that making controversial statements just before the release of his new film ‘Mulk’ will ensure that at least it breaks even. As part of his pre-release press conferences last week, Sinha was asked by someone about Pakistan-backed terrorist organisation Hizbul Mujahideen of recruiting 12 new terrorists and why are Muslims becoming terrorists.

To this, Sinha counter questioned whether the person watches TV. Sinha went on to say, ‘kal aap ke desh ne do mantriyon ne danga karne wale Hinduon ko felicitate kiya’ (Yesterday, two ministers of your country felicitated Hindu rioters’).

That was all he had to respond to why Muslim youths take to terrorism. Among other things wrong with the statement is the fact that he refers to India as ‘aap ke desh’ as if he does not consider India his country. Secondly, blaming union minister for having met the ‘Hindu rioters’ for Muslim youths taking to terrorism, kind of goes against the tenet usually advocate by ‘liberals’ that terrorism has no religion. But I guess it is position on religion of terrorists changes when one is building a narrative.

The audience member then repeated his question for not having received a sensible answer, ‘why are they choosing to be terrorists’. Sinha then said, that to answer that question, one would have to study a bit of history, a bit of geography and it will take time. That he cannot answer such questions in a press conference. Sinha then again questioned back the audience member whether he knows who started terrorism. Answering his own question, Sinha said ‘aapki jaankari ke liye itna bata du ki terrorism ki shuruat musalmano ne nahin ki thi’ (For your information, let me tell you, Muslims did not start terrorism).

Perhaps the terrorism was triggered after someone spent money to watch Sinha’s Ra.One.

Karan Thapar didn’t want Pallavi Joshi in a TV serial because ‘she is dark’, Vivek Agnihotri reveals

Discriminating someone based on their skin tone or complexion is as regressive and unfair as it can get, but if author and filmmaker Vivek Agnihotri is to be believed, Karan Thapar – celebrity journalist and television host enumerated among ‘liberal’ and ‘progressive’ crowd – is guilty of indulging in this disgraceful behaviour.

In his much talked about book Urban Naxals, Vivek has written about this incident that took some time in the late 90s. Vivek was planning to diversify from ad filmmaking to making television shows in those times, and he got a lucky break when Anupam Kher decided to produce a TV serial titled ‘Yeh Kahan Aa Gaye Hum’ to be directed by him.

The pilot episode of the serial was approved by the Hindustan Times group’s television channel Home TV, which was then headed by Karan Thapar. However, things couldn’t move further after Thapar’s first meeting with Vivek, for which, Vivek writes, he had to wait for hours only to meet a person in flashy clothes who shocked him with his backward and discriminatory demands.

Thapar apparently liked the serial but didn’t like the casting. He demanded that Pallavi Joshi is dropped, who had acted in many movies and TV shows by then and had even won a national award for acting.

“But she is dark. I want someone fair,” Karan Thapar told Vivek Agnihotri, as recounted by Vivek in the book.

The same incident was vividly recalled by Vivek in a conversation with OpIndia’s Rahul Roushan. Talking exclusively to OpIndia, Vivek further revealed that the incident happened at a time he and Pallavi Joshi had not started seeing each other (Vivek and Pallavi are currently married couple), and the despicable comment by Karan Thapar made Vivek value her even more.

“Had this (incident) not happened, perhaps me and Pallavi might not even have got married,” Vivek told OpIndia, “Suddenly I looked at Pallavi from a different lens. Then I said (to myself) let me notice this person.”

Vivek further said that Karan Thapar like ‘liberals’ were not rare. There are many who harbour the most regressive ideas while preaching the opposite to the rest of the world; many of them being in the media and entertainment industry.

You can watch and listen to the conversation between Vivek Agnihotri and Rahul Roushan in the YouTube clip below. In the over an hour-long conversation, Vivek explains why and how he wrote the book that primarily is about making of the movie Buddha In A Traffic Jam, but also touches upon various other issues like politics, society, media, education, filmmaking, and more.

The conversation includes discussion on the book theme, the menace of urban naxals, usefulness (or lack of it) of Twitter debates, why the ‘right wing’ does not appear united in India, and other topics including OpIndia and its future:

Rudra Hanuman and Swastika : How Hinduphobia went global

A couple of days ago, Annie Gowen, the India Bureau Chief of the Washington Post, put this up on Twitter.

Untitled.png

One wonders, whether, in this day and age, a journalist would have dared to express hatred so openly towards an icon of another religious community. At least a journalist who wishes to keep her job. Can you imagine a liberal taking on Muslim, Christian or Jewish iconography in this manner?

I hate to bring race into this, but I am going to do that since the global left loves race-baiting so damn much. The optics of a white American journalist dissing a religious icon in a country of brown people are simply devastating for The Washington Post. A pink slip should have been in order.

But I am pretty sure it isn’t. Which confirms the position of Hindus as the most culturally marginalized people on this planet. In a world that is increasingly sensitive towards issues around race, nationality, gender identity and expression, Hinduphobia stands out as the last acceptable prejudice.

The whole fracas around the Rudra Hanuman imagery happened so quickly that most of us remember it well. A smalltime journalist was taking a taxi somewhere when she happened to stick her neck out of the window and notice a bunch of people with Rudra Hanuman flags. Notwithstanding the fact that they did not cause the slightest trouble to her or anyone else that she could see, she decided to attribute violent, hateful motives to them and the Rudra Hanuman icon they were using. Her rantings were published on a far left portal and overnight the Hanuman was declared a symbol of hatred, genocide and whatnot.

Incidentally, the far left website in question has an entire section called “The Soviet Century,” dedicated to celebrating the Communist regimes that massacred 1000 lakh people. But who cares about that? Not coincidentally, the man who started this far left website was recently honoured at Stanford University for “contributing to Western understanding” of the Asia-Pacific.

I have created this simple chart to explain the liberal thought process:

u1.png

Stunningly enough, what began with an unhinged rant by a marginal journalist working for a far left portal has now been internationalized by staffers of The Washington Post.

Yet another testament to the dominance of the Hinduphobic international left and the cultural marginalization of Hindus worldwide.

There are several other shocking examples, but the worst would be the Swastika. As the world gets more global and connected, you would think that there would be greater and greater understanding of the fact that Hindus using the ancient and sacred symbol has nothing to do with Hitler. But you would be wrong.

Untitled.png

A photo showing UN Ambassador Nikki Haley with a swastika behind her at a Hindu temple gets removed. If a Muslim icon had been subject to a similar cultural misunderstanding of this magnitude, we would have been in for a thousand lectures from liberals on “ignorance.”

But instead of using Nikki Haley’s picture with the Hindu swastika as a teachable moment, Reuters decided that it was best to get rid of the photograph. In other words, if you don’t know anything about the culture of one billion Hindus, that’s just fine. The international liberal establishment is here to cater to your ignorance. Instead, they will remind you five times a day that Islam is a “religion of peace.”

Like I said, Hinduphobia remains the last acceptable form of prejudice.

Instead of addressing ignorance and prejudice towards Hindus, there is evidence that the global left is now working actively in the opposite direction. You can see that efforts are in progress to fix the Rudra Hanuman in the Western imagination as a symbol of hatred. And yes, the same applies to the Swastika. Remember this?

Untitled.png

This is from the time Narendra Modi visited the UK. This was projected on to the British Parliament by “activists” belonging to the Awaaz Network.

The sacred Om and Swastika symbols fused into Nazi emblems! That’s the new left. They actively wish to turn the clock backwards, to promote colonial attitudes towards the “Hindoo.”

We recently learned that India’s GDP for the year 2017 has officially crossed that of France, making us the world’s sixth largest economy. In 2018, we are almost certain to go past Britain, which will make us the world’s fifth largest economy. In view of our increasing economic might in the world, the fact that the cultural imprint of Hindus is actually decreasing, that Hinduphobia is on the rise, is absolutely shocking.

We Hindus are not an Abrahamic people. We are not bound to a Prophet or a book. We are incredibly diverse. We constantly reinvent our Hinduness by re-imagining our festivities, our cultural expression and our icons and deities. Who knows what is next in line to be labelled as a global symbol of hatred? Considering even the Left doesn’t mind getting in bed with radical right like Islamists and when it comes to Hinduphobia, fascists like Ku Klux Klan and the Left harbour exactly the same feelings. Remember, all it takes is for a smalltime journalist for a left-wing portal to stick her neck out of the window and damn you forever.

Congress leader Jyotiraditya Scindia throws away coconut prasad given to him by party workers

Madhya Pradesh Congress leader Jyotiraditya Scindia has stirred a controversy after a video has gone viral which shows him throwing away a coconut which was given to him by his party workers.

The incident was reported by News Tak (which is a digital channel of India Today group), in form of a YouTube video:

As seen in the above report, Scindia was travelling from Khajuraho to Rewa in Madhya Pradesh. While he was passing through the town of Panna, his car was stopped by a few congress workers who proceeded to welcome him by giving him a coconut.

Scindia accepted the coconut but shockingly while he was exiting the city, threw it away. As per the report, this act was then noticed by an on-duty policeman who proceeded to hide the coconut between his feet, to hide it from people.

A Jansatta report which too carried this video claims that the video has since then gone viral on social media, with the critics calling this act of Scindia an insult to the Congress workers.

Incidentally, there might be another more unfortunate angle to the matter as one can clearly see in the video that the coconut seems coated in Sindoor, which indicates that it might have been part of a Pooja Prasad (offering to god during Puja):

Congress leader Jyotiraditya Scindia throws away a coconut prasad given to him party workers
Coconut thrown away by Scindia

If it is indeed true that the coconut was first part of a Prasad before being given to Scindia, then he might have insulted not only his party workers but also the Hindu religion, with his act.

BJP MP and Union Minister of State Giriraj Singh, too called it an insult to Hindu gods:

Following the criticism, it remains to be seen whether Scindia or his self-styled Janeudhari President Rahul Gandhi would now apologise for this incident.

Kerala church becomes a condominium for sinners, with another priest being held for rape

Father Johnson V Mathew, a priest of Malankara Orthodox church accused in the rape and sexual abuse of a married woman belonging to the fold was arrested by a crime branch team on Friday. Fr Johnson, hailing from Kozhencherry, the third accused in the case was arrested from his home at 2 pm.

In June this year, five priests of an orthodox church in Kerala had been accused of sexual abuse and blackmailing, by a married woman in Kerala. As per the victim’s husband, his wife was abused by the priests for a whopping 380 times. As per the husband, she was sexually abused by one of the priests before they got married, and even kept making advances following their wedding. Following this serious allegation, an inquiry panel had been formed to look into the complaint against the five priests, from the Malankara Orthodox Syrian Church who has been working under the administration of the Kottayam church.

After this news gained momentum, on 2nd July, four out of the five priests were booked for rape and molestation of this married women. Later it was reported that one out of the three accused surrendered before the Kerala police.

Fr Johnson after being questioned for around three hours was presented before the Thiruvalla magistrate and was remanded for 14 days in judicial custody. He faces charges under section 354 of IPC (molestation), unlike the other three accused who were slapped with section 376 (rape) along with section 354.

The remaining two accused Fr Abraham Varghese (Sony) and Fr Jaise K George, who are absconding are reportedly planning to approach the Supreme Court seeking an anticipatory bail, after the Kerala High court took a strong note of the accusations of rapes by the priests of the Christian church, decided not to grant any interim protection to the two Christian godmen who are booked for the sexual assault.

It is rather appalling that though these kinds of heinous crimes are been given shelter in the church and enough shreds of evidence have emerged, the church is all out defending the accused. The weekly magazine Indian Currents, owned by the Catholic church, openly supports the rape accused Bishop Franko Mulakkal and the priests of the Malankara Orthodox Church against whom allegations of rape and abuse were filed recently.

Though the Catholic churches are leaving no stone unturned in trying and defending the priest involved in this beastly act, Savio Rodrigues, a former senior Congress leader from Goa, who resigned after the Goa election debauchery, known for his extremely forthcoming views, took to Goa Chronicles, a publication he owns, to question whether Church is above the law of the land.

He went on to write with extreme disgust throwing some light on the reprehensible situation surrounding globally, ‘The Church has been in recent past has been known to cover-up its heinous crimes of sexual abuses by priests on children and not report the matter to local police authorities – this is a global phenomenon. It appears to be a similar precedent being followed in India. The audacity of the Church to not report the matter to the local police authorities raises serious questions on whether Indian laws are applicable to the crimes committed by the leaders of the Church.’

With the Church finding itself bang in the middle of accusations of blackmail, gangrape and selling babies one wonders how the so-called godmen get away with these kinds of heinous crimes considering the ones which appear are just a few amongst the many. How much more sexual crime lies unreported and unpunished in poorer regions of the world is anyone’s guess.

Sonal Mansingh, once hounded by ‘secular Congress govt’, now nominated to Rajya Sabha by President

Classical dancer Sonal Mansingh is one of the four people along with columnist Rakesh Sinha, sculptor Raghunath Mohapatra and farmer leader Ram Shakal who have been nominated to the Rajya Sabha. Mansingh, who has won several awards over her career spanning decades including Padma Vibhushan, India’s second highest civilian award in 2003, however, has been over the years, snubbed by the so-called secular government of Congress.

Mansingh has also been called ‘Sanghi’ and ‘saffron’ for being a vocal opponent of Congress, especially the 1975 Emergency. Mansingh had refused to give dance performance during the Emergency, following which she was blacklisted, leading to no access to media, TV, radio and even government accommodation.

In an undated video clip where she is giving an interview, one can hear how the leftists and so-called liberals, including champion of freedom of artists’ expressions Shabana Azmi had hounded her and ‘questioned’ her for agreeing to perform at an event organised by Vishwa Hindu Parishad.

She talks about how a handful of artists like herself and Kishore Kumar, who refused to perform during the Emergency, were blacklisted and were barred from getting any awards given by the government to civilians for contribution in art and culture.

She says this continued through Rajiv Gandhi’s regime as well. She said she had even asked for government accommodation to former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, but even then, nothing happened.

She speaks of 1993, in Swami Vivekananda’s 100th-anniversary celebration in Chicago Atal Bihari Vajpayee had approached her extending an invitation for performance along with other artists. She claims that stirred up the so-called liberals and she was ‘summoned’ and sent a threatening letter by members JNU, CPI, CPM, Sahmat, an NGO as well as actor Shabana Azmi, Swami Agnivesh, where ‘Artists against communalism’ for the said performance. Saying that she belongs to the family of freedom fighters, nobody could lecture her on her country or what she should do.

Agnivesh had questioned her whether she would have gone if Hitler invited her. Mansingh had replied yes because her art has that power, the power to change his mind. She said that as long as she is invited respectfully and does not have a brief on what and how to dance, she would go. After that incident, she was ‘branded’ saffron.

She then goes on to explain how after that incident, she was hounded and harassed by the ‘secular government’ by refusing visa to her team of musicians, on behest of Congress leader Arjun Singh, who was the chief minister of Madhya Pradesh during the Bhopal gas tragedy and is believed to have given the final sanction to fly out Warren Anderson, Union Carbide chief who was charged with culpable homicide not amounting to murder.

She was made the chairperson of Sangeet Natak Akademi in December 2003 and in May 2004, when UPA 1 came to power, which she refers to as ‘the regime’ with 64 communist MPs. She says how Congress had to dance to the communists’ tune. CPM secretary-general Harkishan Singh Surjeet and other communist leaders wrote articles and opinion pieces and eventually hounded for years. She says how she was accused of favouritism by Modi and Advani when her 93-year-old mother, Poornima Pakvasa, Manipuri dancer and social worker for the upliftment of tribal girls in the Dangs, was awarded Padma Vibhushan in 2004.

Calling the ‘Bharat tere tukde honge’ slogans raised in JNU in February 2016, ‘nonsense’ Mansingh said, that is ‘liberal, secular’ (according to Congress) she said she doesn’t want that nonsense.

But Mansingh is more than just her political inclinations. A graduate in German literature from Elphinstone College, Mumbai, Mansingh has also received ‘Praveen’ and ‘Kovid’ degrees in Sanskrit from Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan. She started learning Manipuri dance at the age of four and Bharatnatyam at age 7. She has also learnt Odissi in 1965, which was introduced to her by her father in law, Mayadhar Mansingh. In 1977 she founded Centre for Indian Classical Dances in New Delhi and was awarded Padma Bhushan in 1992 and Padma Vibhushan in 2003, making her second woman dancer in India to receive such an award after Balasaraswati, a celebrated Bharatnatyam dancer.

The Curious Case Of Justice Chelameswar

The Supreme Court of India in its recent judgement on a public interest litigation (PIL) filed by Shanti Bhushan has reiterated, for the third time in eight months that the Chief Justice of India (CJI) will have sole authority on allocating cases in the top court. The judgement although pertains to the internal administration of the Apex Court, has huge implications, particularly with regards to the powers of the CJI. The judgement also firmly puts to rest the unseemly controversy raised by Justice Chelameswar and three other judges in their well-publicized press conference in January 2018.

It may be recalled that Mr Chelameswar and three of his fellow judges had hurriedly convened a press conference in New Delhi to “inform the nation” about ‘happenings’ within the Supreme Court of India. A startled nation watched the drama unfold, hoping to hear some radical steps to reform the judiciary or something to that effect. Instead, the justices raised the banner of revolt. It turned out, much to the disappointment of millions of Indians, to be another case of washing dirty linen in public.

The anguish of the four judges was over the CJI’s powers to allocate cases to his subordinate judges. An eager opposition jumped onto this ‘rebellion’ that ultimately led to the tabling of the motion for the impeachment of the CJI in Parliament. That the motion was rightfully defeated is not the issue here. It certainly opened the doors to the ‘happenings’ within the Supreme Court. This power play or the quest for control over judge’s caseload unabashedly played out in front of the nation, masquerading as concern for the ‘functioning’ of the highest judicial body of the land.

The press conference of Justice Chelameswar et al or the failed move to impeach the Chief Justice cannot be a surprise if one looks into what is happenings within this high judicial body. That Justice Chelameswar later met with a communist leader and other opposition politicians and that the likes of Shanti Bhushan had filed a follow-up PIL to wrest control of the muster from the CJI speaks volumes for itself.

That the said judges seem to be so oblivious of the humungous challenges and problems faced by the courts in the country is indeed hurting. It certainly shows that a section in the judiciary has consistently put personal career aspirations over and above the sacred function of delivering justice. No one can fault them for personal ambitions, but to cloak it as a concern for the judiciary does not lend them dignity at all.

In this context, it is worth looking at the problems and challenges confounding the judiciary in India today. Take a look at the data presented by National Judicial Data Grid (NJDG). According to the NJDG, the backlog of cases in the judicial system in India was approximately 3.3 crores including 43 lakh cases in High Courts and 58,000 cases in the Supreme Court. In a related news report, it was pointed out that almost two thirds or 67% of the prisoners in Indian jails are under-trials. This is indeed shocking.

But amidst all the pendency, ironically, the Supreme Court did find time to convene, in the middle of the night, to pass its considered views on the election outcome and the Governor’s decision to give two weeks’ time for the BJP to prove its majority in the recently concluded elections in Karnataka. The apex court, it appears can definitely find time and resources to hear cases of the mighty and powerful almost immediately while the average citizen may have to wait for years, if not decades to get justice.

I have not heard any statement or action plans to solve this heart-rending problem of pending cases from Justice Chelameswar or his brother judges. Maybe I missed it. But their silence on the real problems of the judiciary is indeed deafening.

The huge backlog of cases also indirectly impacts the daily life as well as the long-term economic well-being of the country. For example, litigations relating to land acquisition delays new road and rail infrastructure. Putting corrupt politicians in jail too is impacted by these backlogs. It can thus be argued that the inefficiencies in the delivery of justice and other judicial services in India have contributed a great deal, albeit indirectly, to its economic backwardness.

Needless to say, the impact of the backlog of cases in India is huge and often not easily quantifiable and has the potential of even destroying the country’s democratic framework. Hence the need of the hour is a collective effort from all three branches of government – legislature, executive and the judiciary to quickly clear the backlog of cases. The government’s Digital India and other initiatives to use technology to enhance delivery of services is something the judiciary can learn from.

In this context, it must be reminded that the Supreme Court is not just made up of its CJI and the other justices who sit on its benches. Any number of eminent judges have occupied its high offices as judges and Chief Justices. But as an institution, it is larger than all of them – the current and past incumbents put together. In fact, it stands tall as the last and final beacon of hope in a democracy and India is no exception.

To trade its stature and importance for few minutes of the national spotlight on television or media is nonetheless a sacrilege that most ordinary Indians cannot easily countenance. For them, the career fortunes of individual judges are of no consequence when crores of cases are pending and every day unknown numbers of lives are lost or wither away in prisons just because justice could not be delivered on time. If this is not rank opportunism, what else could be? Any amount of tall talk and no action will not cut ice in a resurgent India we are witnessing today. The writing on the wall is clear.

Congress discovers a new low: Asks ‘dear friend’ Modi to be answerable for Nawaz Sharif’s arrest

Congress is trying extremely hard to prove that the party and its leader has lost the plot. Defeat and the loss of power is not something that Congress has not handled well, historically. When Indira Gandhi was held guilty of employing unconstitutional methods during polls and barred from contesting elections, she had proceeded to impose emergency, just so she could change the constitution and continue to retain power.

Recently, a desperate Congress President even declared that Congress is a ‘Muslim party’ and was almost apologetic for his temple run in an attempt to peddle ‘soft Hindutva’. The party then followed that up with Kamal Nath writing a letter to Lord Shiva to help MP defeat BJP.

Modi’s win and Congress’ rejection by the people was an obvious insult to the Dynasty. A “mere chaiwallah” defeated the great dynasty and they are now in a mode, where the ‘Chaiwallah’ has to be defeated by hook or by crook.

After toying with national security, creating caste and religious divides in the society, breaking Hindus up, shaking hands with Maoists and radical Islamic outfits like PFI and other shenanigans, they have finally discovered a new low.

Nawaz Sharif, the ex-Prime Minister of Pakistan has been arrested in Pakistan on corruption charges. Alluring the Prime Minister Modi’s state visit to Pakistan in a bid to develop better ties with the neighbouring country, Congress tweeted that Sharif’s “Dear Friend” Modi should now comment on the arrest.

Congress has in the past asked Modi to be held answerable for their own sins. Whether it was the Nirav Modi and Mehul Choksi scan that landed squarely at the Congress’ doorstep and put P Chidambaram’s 20:80 Gold Scheme in the dock, or the Vijay Mallya fiasco, where they asked Modi to answer for loans that were provided during the Congress regime.

It is now hilarious that the Congress party has taken their delusions international, and wants the Prime Minister to be answerable for corruption committed by the Prime Minister of another country.

While the proposition is hilarious, the mentality behind this proposition is equally dangerous. Congress seems to be willing to undermine the country, in their bid to undermine Modi. The Prime Minister was in Pakistan as the Prime Minister of India’s capacity. In fact, Modi is often blamed by the opposition for taking a muscular approach to Pakistan without caring much about “dialogue” and “people to people contact”. When few instances Modi did try to develop better ties with the Terror state in order to dissuade them from using terror as a state policy, Congress uses it to hold Modi responsible for Sharif’s gaffes and brands him Sharif’s “good friend”, thereby trying to establish guilt by association.

This dichotomy and Congress’ cheap jibe was not missed by Netizens either.

Minister Giriraj Singh too lashed out at the Congress. He said that there are a few people who are out on bail and some would be heading to jail soon, probably alluding to Rahul Gandhi, Sonia Gandhi, Shashi Tharoor and a host of others.

Interestingly, a Netizen had already predicted that this sub cerebral line of argument might be taken by the media. Little did he know, that Congress has entered the same realm of desperation.

In a democracy, however, every individual has the right to ask questions. And if Congress’ question is to be taken seriously, perhaps Congress would also like to explain the following pictures.

Ex-Prime Minister Manmohan Singh with Nawaz Sharif.

Ex-Prime Minister Manmohan Singh with terrorist Yasin Malik. He seems happy, doesn’t he?

Former Finance Minister P Chidambaram in the presence of Mullah Abdul Salam Zaeef, one of the founding members of Taliban and once a close confidant of its former chief Mullah Mohammed Omar.

We hope Congress comes up with an explanation. Though, we are certainly not holding our breath.

In another case of Love Jihad, Muslim man kills Hindu girl after his fake Hindu identity was exposed

In yet another case of Love Jihad, a Muslim man by the name of Sheikh Sultan shot his girlfriend dead after his fake Hindu identity was exposed, which led to a cancellation of their wedding, India Today has reported. Sultan is believed to be resident of Konnagar in West Bengal’s Howrah district, and the girl too lived nearby in Uttarpara.

As per the report the deceased girl named Subhologna Chakraborty was in a relationship with Sultan, who had kept his religious identity hidden, to pose as a Hindu. Things were at an advanced stage and the 35 year old Subhologna was all set to have a court marriage with Sultan.

But then the marriage was called off after the parents came to known of Sultan’s real identity. This, as per a Eisamay report, angered Sultan to such an extent that he barged into Subhologna’s house at around 8 PM on Thursday, and shot her dead from a point blank range.

The parents Tushar Chakroborty and Shubhra Chakroborty rushed to try and save their daughter but were attacked by Sultan using iron rods. They were gravely injured. Soon the neighbours rushed in and admitted the trio to the Uttarpara State General hospital. Subhologna was declared dead but her parents are undergoing treatment.

Following the attack, Sultan tried to flee the spot but was later arrested by the police. The Eisamay report has quoted the Uttarpara police station’s investigative official as claiming that Sultan has admitted to the murder.

Incidentally such a matter of love jihad comes just on the heels of another similar case of love jihad.

It was reported just at the end of last month how a Muslim man had sexually exploited a girl while pretending to be a Hindu and when she insisted on marriage, he asked her to convert and eat beef.

Shia Waqf Board wants Ram Temple built, Sunni Waqf Board lawyer says ‘Hindu Taliban destroyed Babri’

The Shia Waqf Board on Friday told the Supreme Court that it was in favor of settling the Ayodhya land dispute peacefully in the interest of “unity, integrity, and honor of this great country” by relinquishing their one-third share in the disputed land the Allahabad High Court had granted to Muslim petitioners so that they can build a Ram temple.

The Shia Waqf Board said the custodian of the Babri mosque was a Shia and the Sunni Waqf Board or anyone else is not the representative of Muslims in India.

Shia Waqf Board’s chairperson Waseem Rizvi said, “There was never a mosque on that site in Ayodhya and there can never be a mosque there. It is the birthplace of Lord Ram and only a Ram temple will be built. Sympathisers of Babar are destined to lose.”

Last year as well the Shia Central Waqf Board of Uttar Pradesh had told the apex court that it was willing to build a mosque in a Muslim-dominated area, at an equitable distance from the Ram Janmabhoomi site. It said that rather than partitioning the site in Ayodhya, the proposed mosque could be located at a reasonable distance from the disputed site to avoid any clashes in the future.

A bench comprising Chief Justice Dipak Misra and Justices Ashok Bhushan and S. Abdul Nazeer was hearing arguments on referring the ‘Ram Janmabhoomi-Babri Masjid’ case to a constitution bench for further consideration. Senior lawyer Rajeev Dhawan, representing the Sunni Waqf Board, urged the Supreme Court, considering the importance of the case, that it should be placed before a constitution bench.

A senior advocate, Rajiv Dhawan, appearing on behalf of the Sunni Waqf Board, said that the Shia board was unnecessarily indulging in a baseless act of charity. “The Shia Waqf Board has no locus to speak in this case. Just as the Taliban destroyed the Bamiyan, the Hindu Taliban destroyed Babri Masjid”.

In 2010, the Lucknow bench of Allahabad high court had ruled in favour of partitioning the land equally among three parties—the Sunni Waqf Board, Nirmohi Akhara and the ‘Ram Lalla’ (infant Lord Ram), represented by the Hindu Mahasabha. However, the verdict was stayed by the Supreme Court in 2011.

On 30 May 2017, a special Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) court framed criminal conspiracy charges against senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leaders for the demolition of the Babri Masjid mosque in Ayodhya by a mob in 1992. The leaders include former deputy prime minister L.K. Advani, union minister Uma Bharti and former union minister Murli Manohar Joshi.

Amongst the long drawn dispute over the ‘Ram Janmabhoomi-Babri Masjid’ case, which has also been skillfully used as a tool by the political parties to play nasty politics, not very long ago, a startling revelation had come to light about the Ram Mandir saga when the former principal secretary to the UP government Yogendra Narain, in his book, revealed that the former PM, Narasimha Rao hailing from the Indian National Congress knew about a temple under Babri Masjid, but chose to remain silent.

He had also reiterated that BJP did not want the demolition of the temple. The bureaucrat while talking to Times Now had said, “I have a feeling that it was not the BJP party which wanted the demolition. It was these as we later found, Kar sevaks who had come from Maharashtra and other places who had very intense feelings about this, who had brought all this equipment to break [the mosque]. I would not like to take a political view of this, but I would reiterate that the PM Rao was fully aware of ASI findings.
