Rahul Gandhi uses Atal Bihari Vajpayee’s health to score political points

Congress President Rahul Gandhi has drawn severe criticism for politicizing the illness of former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee. He used the hospitalization of the BJP stalwart to exalt the culture of his own party.

Addressing a rally in Mumbai, he said, “Vajpayee ji is ill, who went first? I went to meet him at the hospital. Though he fought against us, Vajpayee ji worked for nation-building.” He went on to add, “LK Advani has been the guru of PM Modi, but I have seen in events that PM Modi does not even respect his guru. Today I feel very sad for Advani ji. The Congress party has given him more respect than Modi Ji.”

People on Social Media were quick to remind him of the manner in which the Congress party ill-treated PV Narasimha Rao, another former Prime Minister, who is credited with ushering the era of liberalization of the economy.

Rebel Congress leader Shehzad Poonawalla also claimed that AIIMS had explicitly asked Rahul Gandhi not to visit for health concerns. But Rahul ignored their pleas and went to meet Vajpayee anyway just to score political points.

Shehzad added that according to AIIMS, till 7:30 pm, owing to the tests Vajpayee was undergoing, wellwishers were asked to avoid visiting him, but Rahul Gandhi paid no heed.

The Congress President who has a history of embarrassing himself in public recently made himself an object of further ridicule after he declared that founder of the soft drink Coca Cola was a Shikhanji vendor in America. Earlier today, a Court in Bhiwandi had framed charges against him in a defamation case filed against him by an RSS worker in 2014.

Bastar Police arrests ‘Urban Naxal’ accused of being instrumental in propagating the extremist ideology

The twitter account of Bastar Police on Tuesday announced the arrest of ‘Urban Naxal’ Abhay Devdas Nayak who was supposedly propagating the extremist ideology in the Maoist influenced region:

As per the tweet above, Nayak had travelled from Bangalore to Bastar to propagate the Maoist ideology. Following his arrest, which was termed as a great success by the Bastar police, the authorities claimed that he had confessed about his Maoist association during interrogation.

As per a Hindi News18 report, Nayak used to be part of an urban Naxal network and had even travelled to 15 countries for propagating the extremist ideology. The report claims that the police had been in the process of arresting Nayak for the past one and a half years, and finally succeeded, following his latest foreign trip which ended on 31 May.

Nayak was involved in propagating press releases of the leftist terror outfits and radicalising the youth, if a Patrika report is to be believed. The report also claimed that he was arrested from the Jagdalpur region of the Bastar district.

Incidentally such an arrest by the Bastar police comes days after the Pune police had arrested five suspected urban Maoists over charges of inciting the Bhima Koregaon violence in January. One of those arrested named Rona Wilson is being accused of plotting the assassination of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Government considering increasing monthly pension limit to 10,000 under Atal Pension Yojna

The central government is considering hiking the monthly pension limit under Atal Pension Yojna to Rs 10,000 per month. According to reports, Madnesh Kumar Mishra, Joint Secretary, Department of Financial Services has stated that it is necessary to raise the value of the pension for the beneficiaries.

According to reports, Pension Funds Regulatory and Development Authority (PFRDA) chairman Hemant G Contractor has stated that the proposal for increasing the limit has been sent to the finance ministry. Contractor reportedly added that currently there are five slabs of pension from Rs 1000 to Rs 5000 and they have received a lot of feedbacks saying that an amount of 5000 may not be sustainable after 20-30 years. The PFRDA believes that a higher limit will also motivate more people to subscribe to this scheme.

The PFRDA has reportedly sent another two proposals to the finance ministry. They are reportedly ensuring auto-enrollment for APY and raising the maximum age limit for subscribing to APY to 50 years. Currently, the maximum age limit is 40 years and the scheme needs a minimum of 20 years premium payment for a beneficiary to receive pension fro  60 years of age.

The total number of people enrolled under APY so far is reportedly 1.02 crores. PFRDA stated that they hope to enrol at least 60 to 70 lakh new subscribers by the end of the current fiscal year.

Atal Pension Yojna was announced by Finance Minister Arun Jaitley in his 2015 budget speech and was started by PM Modi on May that year in Kolkata. It assures a monthly pension of Rs 5000 for as little as Rs 210 paid as monthly premium.

In 2013, Jairam Ramesh sought release of same Maoist now arrested for Bhima Koregaon violence : TimesNow

According to a Times Now report, former Congress Minister Jairam Ramesh had written a letter to the then Maharashtra Chief Minister, Prithviraj Chavan 5 years ago to secure the release of Mahesh Raut who was detained by the local police for his alleged links to Maoists. Mahesh Raut was arrested recently for his alleged role in the violence related to Bhima-Koregaon.

In the letter Times Now claims to have accessed, Jairam Ramesh claims that after he “independently inquired” into the allegations against Raut through reliable sources, He had discovered that Raut was working successfully with the administration as a Prime Minister’s Rural Development Fellow (PMRDF) and had generated significant goodwill among the local people. PMRDFs are tasked with reaching out to the poor and assist the district administration in addressing their grievances and concerns. They are also expected to create awareness among the poor about the various welfare schemes initiated by the government for their benefit.

Ramesh further writes, “As the Minister in charge of the PMRD Fellowship, I am concerned with the prolonged interrogation of the PMRDF without an FIR by the Police. This has resulted in adverse reports in the media about this incident, which is causing incalculable harm to the goodwill that the fellowship has generated.”

Asserting that Mahesh Raut should be allowed to return to work, the UPA Minister writes, “I definitely do not want to second-guess the local civil and police administration who function in very difficult conditions and circumstances. Even so, I seek your urgent personal intervention to clear the air and bring the issue to an end, so that the PMRDFs are able to work without fear. Mahesh Raut should be allowed to continue working in Gadricholi and the Collector may be directed to provide all necessary support.”

It is pertinent to mention that recently dozens of Naxals were eliminated during anti-Naxal operations at Gadchiroli where Raut was posted when Jairam Ramesh was trying to secure his release back in 2012. Gadchiroli has always been a hotbed of such activities. Times Now had also reported earlier on the links between the Maoists and Congress and had produced a letter between Maoists which claimed that Congress was willing to provide all legal and financial help for the agitations and Dalit mobilization in their bid to hurt the BJP. It was also reported that Mahesh Raut had close links to a UPA Minister.

Jairam Ramesh’s alleged letter to the then Maharashtra Chief Minister has generated a political storm. A former UPA Minister writing a letter to secure the release of a person with alleged links to Maoists certainly does not look good for the Congress party which is struggling for political relevance across the country.

Zee News commits major goof up while reporting about the upcoming football World Cup

With the FIFA football world cup in Russia fast approaching, the Indian media has also started to provide coverage for the highly popular tournament. One of the outfits covering the tournament included Zee News, which ended up committing a major goof up in the process.

On Monday evening Zee News carried a story titled, “Brazilian legend Cristiano Ronaldo to feature in World Cup opening ceremony” and also shared it on social media:

Zee News commits major goof up while reporting about the upcoming football World Cup
Report published by Zee News

Incidentally, besides calling Cristiano Ronaldo as a “Brazilian legend” and tagging him in the tweet, Zee had also used his picture as a featured image for their post.

This obviously was a clear mistake on Zee News part as Cristiano who is a Portuguese national, represents his home country and not Brazil in International FIFA tournaments.

The Ronaldo which Zee News should have referred to is actually the legendary Brazilian striker, “Ronaldo Luís Nazário de Lima” who is going to take part in the opening ceremony along with singers Robbie Williams and Aida Garifullina:

Incidentally, the content of the Zee News article was sourced from an IANS feed which appears to have carried an accurate headline, leading to the question as to what prompted Zee News to supposedly change the headline to an inaccurate one:

Zee News commits major goof up while reporting about the upcoming football World Cup
Headline carried in an unedited IANS feed

This goof up was indeed noticed by various Twitter users who mocked Zee News for it:

It is indeed surprising to note that despite being made aware about their mistake, Zee News has neither corrected its mistake nor has it issued a clarification regarding the matter.

Complaint filed against Shehla Rashid for accusing Nitin Gadkari of plotting to assassinate PM Modi

As per reports, Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha has registered a complaint and demanded that a case be registered under section 153. 153(A) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) for spreading hatred between communities and disturbing social harmony through her tweet which alleged that the RSS and Union Minister Nitin Gadkari are plotting the assassination of Prime Minister Modi.

“The message is totally false, unfounded, concocted and without any basis. The message also promotes insecurity and uncertainty in the country by levelling unfounded allegations that RSS/Gadkari is planning to assassinate PM Modi,” the complaint said.

The complaint was filed by BJYM’s Shivam Chandra, media-in-charge, Pareksheet Dagar, national working committee member and Delhi BJP media committee member Raghav Mandal. Mr Dagar said, “They appear to get disturbed by looking at the unprecedented development works carried out by Mr Gadkari. Activists like Ms Rashid, Omar Khalid, and Kanhaiya Kumar are working to promote fear and anti-national politics in the country.”  “People like Shehla often make such absurd comments, which break the society,” Mr Chhabra added.

Union Minister Nitin Gadkari had threatened legal action following Shehla Rashid’s accusation. Since then, she has claimed the tweet was merely sarcasm and played the ‘Islamophobia’ card to get herself out of trouble.

Senior BJP leader accuses Temple administration of increasing interference in spiritual matters

Senior BJP leader from Tamil Nadu, H Raja, has emphasized on the necessity of retrieving Hindu Temples from Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments (HR & CE) department and claimed that interference in Hindu spiritual matters was on the rise. He also stressed the need to maintain the temples and its properties and generate revenues.

H Raja alleged that the HR & CE departments were not working efficiently enough to enhance the revenue of the Temples under their control and accused them of meddling in Hindu religious traditions. At a public meeting in Srirangam, he said, “The officials are supposed to maintain the temples and its properties and generate revenue, but they are interfering in spiritual affairs.”

The BJP leader also asserted that several complaints have been made against Executive Officers in Temples, however, no action has been taken against them by the authorities. H Raja has stated in the past as well that Temples should be free from government control.

There has been plenty of controversy in recent times surrounding government controlled Temples. Head Priest of Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD) had accused the Temple administration of indulging in malpractice and corruption for which he was made to retire by the authorities. More recently, the keys of the treasury of Puri Jagannath Mandir had gone missing which had triggered a massive controversy.

Restaurant aggregator and trolls go after celebrity chef’s livelihood after he highlights Islamist persecution of Hindus

Michelin Starred Celebrity Chef Atul Kochhar has seen his livelihood threatened by Islamist trolls and a restaurant aggregator, following his tweet where he had highlighted the age-old Islamist persecution of Hindus.

The episode began when actor Priyanka Chopra extended an “apology” following the controversial Quantico episode where Hinduism was slandered. Out of the many who were unconvinced by her “apology”, one was Chef Atul Kochhar who slammed her for not respecting the Hindu sentiments, who as he stated have faced persecution at the hands of Islam for the last 2000 years:

Trolls and Restaurant aggregators go after celebrity chef's livelihood after he highlights persecution of Hindus by Islamists
Atul Kochhar tweet

Almost predictably, Kochhar’s tweet displeased quite a few Muslims who decided to target his business in order to try and harm him financially:

This targeting was not limited to Muslims and even an “economist” decided to slyly report him to his business associates in Dubai:

The targeting soon got to Kochhar who then decided to apologise for his historical inaccuracies and clarify his liberal stance, incidentally without refuting the persecution of Hindus which he had highlighted earlier:

People though seem to be in no mood to forgive him and a restaurant aggregator named “Halal Gems” has issued a statement about them no longer carrying information about his restaurants.

Incidentally this, “go after the livelihood of your enemies” modus operandi is pretty common within the world of so-called liberals, which now seems to be inspiring the aforementioned individuals.

It remains to be seen whether following this continual backlash Kochhar would proceed to take further “corrective steps” to protect his business or would he instead choose to ride the storm.

India to UN: We endorse ban on Jammat-ur-Arhah, but drop Pakistan’s ‘link to Indian agencies’ assertion

India conveyed its desire to drop the references made to the Indian agencies in UN’s declaration of Pakistan based Jammat-ur-Ahrar (JuA) as a terrorist organization.

On Monday, during Indian MoS Home, Kiren Rijiju’s, meeting with UK MoS for countering extremism, Baroness Williams, in Delhi, India’s demands were laid out to the United Kingdom, a permanent member of United Nations Security Council (UNSC).

According to officials, India’s main objection concerned with the UN’s admittance of Pakistan’s case of banning JuA on the grounds that the terror outfit has “links” with Indian intelligence agencies. India stated that it does not object to the ban of the organization but rather the Pakistani claim.

According to a lawyer, JuA is an offshoot of Tehrik-e-Taliban, which has claimed responsibility for attacks in Pakistan. These attacks were targeted at Pakistan’s military and law personnel, government buildings, minority groups, and lawyers.

The sanctions slapped by UNSC on JuA were done on the request by Pakistan, which claimed the group’s link to Indian intelligence agencies. India wants the intervention of the United Kingdom in this matter and that it feels disappointed over UNSC accepting the false claims made by Islamabad pertaining to the links this group allegedly has with Indian intelligence agencies. India wants the UK to intervene and ‘delete’ any reference, both in summary and the statement of the case submitted by Pakistan before the UNSC.

In this meeting, the issue of UK soil being used for anti-India propaganda also came up. India raised its concerns regarding Sikh and Kashmiri separatist operating and spreading anti-India propaganda from the UK. The desecration of the Indian flag in London ahead of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to the UK was also pointed out.

On the issue of listing of JeM chief Masood Azhar before the UNSC, India appreciated UK’s support. Indian move to list Masood was supported by three permanent members of the UNSC, including the UK but China vetoed the move.

Why can’t Arvind Kejriwal just apologise?

0

Unless you have been living under a rock for the past few days, you must be aware that the serial –“Dharna” -ist Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal and his clan comprising of the tainted Satyender Jain, Deput Manish Sisodia and Gopal Rai have parked themselves in the Delhi LG ‘s office for an impromptu (read planned) dharna against their 3 key demands of

  1. LG to intervene and make the IAS Association end their strike
  2. Making the IAS take part in the meetings called by the Cabinet ministers of Delhi
  3. Allowing door to door ration delivery

The IAS association has squarely refuted all the claims made by Arvind Kejriwal and his coterie. By all standards, it looks like Kejriwal is lying about this alleged strike. Many known AAP titled Media personalities like Rajdeep, Sagarika, Nikhil Wagle etc, have not only been repeating his lie but have also been trying to give this a political spin and blame the Modi government for the strike by the IAS officers.

Even though the facts point in a completely different direction, let us assume for a moment that Kejriwal and band of dharnaists are telling the truth. That indeed the IAS officers are on a strike. The journalists who seem to be cosying up to him and partaking in his lie seem to be missing a key point, either deliberately, or by design.

This stalemate can end with a simple apology by Arvind Kejriwal to the IAS association and to the chief secretary for the assault gate that took place in the midnight in Kejriwal’s residence, in front of him, some time back. Even when his MLA was caught on camera instigating assaults on IAS officers, and Kejriwal had maintained a stoic silence.

No one is asking this basic question to Kejriwal, why is he not apologizing and ending the stalemate once and for all and proceed to deliver the so-called governance that he has been proposing to Delhi citizens. Delhi as it is undergoing various crisis’ of Water and Power. The reason is simple, Kejriwal after a long hiatus of blaming Modi government is back at it again to be able to regain the lost political limelight due to his poor performance both at Delhi governance and at the recent elections (where most of the AAP candidates lost their deposits). His plan is simple – create as much drama as needed, try and gain sympathy, gather media coverage as much as possible and try and play victim to cover up for the lack of governance that Delhi is suffering from.

If the media entities and journalists who are so enamoured with the dramatic CM had done their job with the honesty that their profession demands, the first line of argument that they would take is questioning Kejriwal on the assault, and then asking him why, instead of apologising for endorsing the assault of a government official, is he not tendering an unconditional apology.

With Central elections less than 10 months away this posturing is nothing but an attempt by him to position himself against Prime Minister Modi and be accepted as a tall leader (which hasn’t been happening despite his several attempts). AAP has already declared that they are placing candidates in all the three upcoming state elections and his latest “Dharna” is another juvenile attempt to gain some political mileage.

The IAS Association has snubbed Kejriwal and his coterie’s allegations by putting out a statement that the governance from the IAS standpoint is going on in BAU (Business as usual) mode. Their only demand is of assurance of their officer’ security and an apology to the association and the Chief Secretary, Simple these two would end the stalemate. It is indeed staggering that the Yes-Men who surround Kejriwal aren’t suggesting to him, that the IAS officers deserve this assurance after the brutal assault on the Chief Secretary.

Delhi waits for the usual suspects of the Media to shed their bias and ask this fundamental question of apology to Kejriwal. Or perhaps, that is that too much to expect from our Media.

Time will only tell, till then Delhi Suffers.
