AIADMK sacks columnist for suggesting tie up with the BJP in its party mouthpiece

0

The AIADMK has ended its association with a columnist and a sub-editor over a pro-BJP article which was published in its party mouthpiece Namadhe Puratchi Thalaivi Amma. The article was written by the columnist named Thirumalai on Sunday, supposedly hinted at an alliance between the BJP and the AIADMK and asserted that both the parties should function as a double-barrelled gun.

Such an article was soon picked up by the media which termed it as the AIADMK swearing by its ties with the BJP. The reports also claimed that the article heaped praise on Prime Minister Narendra Modi. This, though, hasn’t sat well with the AIADMK, which along with the author has also sacked a sub-editor named Paneerselvam for publishing the article without taking proper permission. Its editor Marudhu Alaguraj claims to have been abroad at the time of the article’s publication.

Besides firing its employees, the party also issued a clarification that the article has created confusion within people’s mind, while asserting that the party won’t seek or find allies for contesting elections. The clarification also notified that the news regarding any such alliance won’t be published in a newspaper but would be decided by the party’s high-level committee.

Current Lok Sabha’s deputy speaker and AIADMK leader M Thambidurai too has jumped into the matter by claiming that there was no double-barrelled gun, with the parties functioning independently.

Sushma Swaraj fires salvo at Pakistan, urges UNSC to take actions against state-sponsored terrorism

0

External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj, during her address at the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation(SCO) Council of Foreign Ministers meeting, in a shrouded attack on Pakistan said that terrorism is an enemy of the basic human rights and the fight against it should also identify States that “encourage, support and finance” the menace and “provide sanctuary” to terror groups.

Sushma Swaraj, during the meeting also attended by Pakistan Foreign Minister Khawaja Muhammad Asif, raised the issue of global terrorism and protectionism.

The External Affairs Minister went on to say that amongst the various challenges the world is facing today, foremost being the threat of global terrorism and the imminent need to build a strong security architecture to combat it.

“Terrorism is an enemy of the basic human rights: of life, peace and prosperity,” Swaraj said.

The criminal terrorist militias are not impeded by borders as they seek to destroy the architecture of international stability and build walls of fear in societies that believe in pluralism, she said.

“We strongly believe that our fight against terrorism should not only seek to eliminate terrorists but should also identify and take strong measures against States that encourage, support and finance terrorism and provide sanctuary to terrorists and terror groups,” Swaraj said without mentioning any country.

“We have to work together to wipe-out this scourge from the face of the earth. In order to realise this objective, we must unite across our differences, strengthen our resolve and script an effective strategy against terror. We welcome the clarity shown by the SCO on terrorism from its inception.

“We should also urgently resolve to establish Comprehensive Convention on International Terrorism that India proposed more than two decades ago in the United Nations. We are determined to consistently strengthen cooperation within the SCO framework for comprehensive, cooperative and sustainable security,” the minister said.

Terrorism being the pivotal topic of discussion, she also raised the issue of reforms at the UN Security Council, UN Framework Convention on Climate Change and its Paris Agreement of 2015, following the establishment of “International Solar Alliance” in December 2017. Sushma Swaraj also spoke about the International North-South Transport Corridor, the Chabahar Port Development, the Ashgabat Agreement, India-Myanmar-Thailand Highway Project and Bangladesh-Butan-India-Nepal Initiative.

She went on to strongly support the active efforts of the Afghan Government to implement Afghan-led, Afghan-owned and Afghan-controlled inclusive peace and reconciliation process. “India actively supports the activation of the SCO-Afghanistan Contact Group, the Moscow Consultation Format and other mechanisms of dialogue and cooperation for the restoration of peace and development in Afghanistan,” the minister added.

The meeting was also attended by foreign ministers Wang Yi of China, Kairat Abdrakhmanov of Kazakhstan, Abdyldaev Erlan Bekeshovich of Kyrgyzstan, Sergey Lavrov of Russia, Sirodjidin Muhridinovich Aslov of Tajikistan, Abdulaziz Khafizovich Kamilov of Uzbekistan, and Secretary General of the SCO Rashid Alimov among others.

The SCO is a Eurasian intergovernmental organisation, the creation of which was announced in 2001 in Shanghai by Kazakhstan, China, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan. It was preceded by the Shanghai Five mechanism.

India, along with Pakistan, were granted full member status at the SCO summit in Astana, Kazakhstan, in June 2017.

This story will be updated when Bollywood as a whole decides to take a stand against casting couch. When their protests, condemnation, support and silence moves beyond just earning their ‘Roti‘. When the ones who scream the loudest about women’s rights and dignity, condemn Saroj Khan for her sexist rant, and Richa Chadda, the ‘harbinger of virtue’, for defending that sexist rant.

This is what Richa Chadda said :

Anti Naxal operations in Gadchiroli, Maharashtra : 37 neutralised so far

A Day after 16 Maoists was killed in an operation near Kasnasur village in Bhamragad tehsil of Maharashtra, the Gadchiroli Police Monday said six more Naxals were killed near Rajaram Khanla village in Aheri tehsil. The encounter took place between 7 pm and 8 pm, reports said, in which Nandu, said to be a Dalam commander, was also killed. The elite C-60 commandos of district police were involved in the operation.

An ANI tweet shows, army officers celebrating the success of two encounters at Gadchiroli:

Inspector General of Police (Anti-Naxal Operations) Sharad Shelar, told that the exact number of slain Naxals was being confirmed, but at least six Naxals have been eliminated. Shelar also said that police expected to retrieve bodies of many more Naxals from the site of yesterday’s encounter, as the combing operation had been made difficult by the heavy rains in the area. As of now, police have found 16 bodies and identified 11 of them. The Maharashtra police are considering this to be one of their biggest success in its anti-Maoist operations in the recent times.

News later trickled in that the death toll could have risen to 37.

Maharashtra Director General of Police, earlier today, attributed the success to accurate and specific intelligence, the low morale of the Naxals and divisions in their ranks.

Other Maoist-infested states besides Maharashtra — Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Odisha, Jharkhand, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana are on a state of high alert, ever since the state security forces here launched their biggest anti-Maoist operations in around four decades.

Salman Khurshid says Congress has blood on its hands, stands by his statement

0

Senior Congress leader and former Union Minister Salman Khurshid said during an event at the Aligarh Muslim University yesterday that the Congress has the blood on its hands. Asked by a student at the event what are his views on the anti-Muslim riots that had happened during the Congress regime and demolition of Babri Masjid and does he accept that Congress has blood of Muslims on its hands, Khurshid said that he does admit that Congress has blood on its hands and the people should learn from their mistakes.

When confronted by journalists over his statement the Congress leader stated that he stands by his statement and he said it as a human being.

Khurshid’s statement comes in the wake of several senior Congress leaders distancing themselves from the impeachment motion against CJI Deepak Mishra that the party has brought forward. Khurshid had earlier stated that impeachment is too serious a matter and should not be dealt with frivolously. He has also stated that he was not privy to any discussions on the matter and hence cannot comment on the charges.

As of yesterday he again stated that though he was not in the loop regarding the impeachment motion, the Vice President’s decision to reject it should be challenged. Several Congress leaders reportedly did not sign the motion.

Hindu groups conduct ‘Gharwapsi’ of youth who converted to Islam for marrying a girl

0

A Hindu youth who decided to convert to Islam after being promised marriage has been reconverted back to Hinduism due to efforts by Hindu groups like ‘Bajrang Dal’ and ‘Hindu Sangathan’. This incident has been reported from Shamli’s Vishwakarma Nagar locality in Uttar Pradesh.

As per reports, the youth named Pawan fell in love with a Muslim girl and wanted to marry her. The girl’s family members though were adamant that he needed to convert to Islam for the wedding to take place. After being repeatedly pressurised of the same, the youth relented and converted to Islam. Following this, a Muslim cleric also submitted a religious conversion petition in the Muzaffarnagar court.

This created a flutter within various Hindu groups who then reached his home to persuade him to change his mind. As per a report by Oneindia, the youth Pawan who later became Aamir was then asked by the Bajrang Dal activists to not go ahead with his religious conversion. Pawan though was seen declining, following which some of the activists landed a few blows on him.

Later things calmed down and Hindu activists started to educate him about Hinduism. There the youth was seen confessing that he became a Muslim after uttering Islamic verses. He then drew a blank when quizzed as to whether he was aware of Hindu shlokas like Mahamritunjaya jap and the Hanuman Chalisa.

After being extensively educated in the matter, Pawan decided to re-embrace Hinduism, with videos capturing him getting his beard shaved. In the corresponding clip, he is seen donning a Tilak and chanting slogans like, “Jai Sri Ram” and “Har Har Mahadev”.

Following the completion of the process, Pawan recounted that he didn’t like being a Muslim and hence returned back to the religion of his birth. As per a Bajrangi Dal’s district official Sunny Sharma, the youth was converted to Islam after being falsely promised a marriage and a job.

Sunny thus asserted that they won’t allow such conversions of Hindu youths and in context of Pawan claimed that he has given an assurance that he would remain a Hindu. Sunny also claimed that Pawan would later be taken to a temple for a purification ceremony.

The protests, condemnation, silence and support is all driven by one need : ‘Roti’

0

The eternal question that has perhaps plagued the soul of man is whether earning one’s livelihood by means that betrays all that is sacred, or worth possessing, whether that be one’s conscience, peace of mind, or lofty virtues, is a livelihood worth earning at all. After all, what is the worth of the tools to live, when the life being lived, does not merit a lofty purpose? What is the use of having the means to live, when the life lived is bereft of all that humankind holds sacred? What indeed is the purpose of a mirror when you can’t look into it without a cringe?

A man’s soul is revealed by the causes he espouses. By what he extends his voice to, and what he stays silent on. By what he protests, what he condemns and what he relegates to the dark corners of his subconscious, never to be spoken off, never to be thought of, because the burden would be too much, the repercussions, too severe.

Save for ideological pigmies. The animalistic crop that hasn’t reached too far in the process of evolution. The ones that still cater only to their basal needs. It is the way of the world that those who have the luxury of livelihood abound, run only after livelihood the most. And perhaps this basal, animalistic, primal mentality, is what Saroj Khan alluded to today. The lofty ideals be damned, virtues be damned, it indeed all boils down to Roti.

Saroj Khan, one of the giants among the ideological pigmies today made a telling statement. She said, “at least Bollywood gives Roti. Doesn’t rape and abandon”. And she is right. No matter what, if one leaves their soul at the entrance, Bollywood does give roti, even if it murders the soul, robs conscience and violates the body.

Right From Shahrukh’s “Tu haan kar ya na kar, tu hain meri Kiran” to “Raziya gundon main phas gayi”, often Bollywood paints a pretty picture of all that is wrong with the society, because ‘roti’ is what drives the stars, not pesky little lofty principles that a society should uphold. Why else would the harbinger of virtue, Swara Bhaskar, defend the glorification of stalking in Ranjhanaa if it wasn’t ‘Roti’ that drove her? While she pretends to uphold the rights of women, in a movie that features her, even stalking can be branded the ‘naive charm of a man in love’ because livelihood is what drives not just her, but most.

Everything that the Bollywood does betrays the sense of morality. Perhaps that’s why they don’t pile up on sexual offenders of their own ilk, Roti it boils down to.

Bollywood loves bad boys. Bad boys like Khilji. What is wrong with it, after all? The idea of benevolent dictators is enticing. As Saroj Khan said, the crime itself becomes a far lesser evil if it can be compensated with ‘Roti’ later. The thought of a benevolent dictator is an appealing concept for most ‘Roti’ chasers. Because the tyranny of dictatorship can be long overshadowed by his benevolence.

And then, when the tides turn and the script changes, they protest against the very ideas that they personally wouldn’t mind glorifying on the silver screen, and it turns into a matter of grave concern. They look angry and hold placards. Demand justice. Until the next release. Until the next Khilji.

Because It all boils down to ‘Roti’.. that basal, animalistic urge, to hunt.. but eat.

That pretty much sums up the way to of the ideological pigmies. But one can’t only blame Bollywood for this dwarfness. It is often said that Bollywood is a manifestation of the society. That reel often imitates real. And if that is true, one must also look at how some sections of the society, often driven by motivated politicians respond.

The discourse in our political arena too has been fashioned around the basic urge of amassing livelihood, instead of earning an honourable livelihood.

Why else would politicians reinforce the idea that getting 15 lacs deposited in the people’s bank account is far more important than say the protection of sovereignty or even a nation’s cultural identity?

That a Lalu Prasad can be a convict who robbed the country of millions, pushed a state back decades, and unleashed a reign of terror, but boy did he know how to keep his supporters happy. And thus, Lalu will always be tomtomed as the upholder of the rights of the downtrodden.

Or how Arvind Kejriwal can spend crores on refreshment, on his personal treatment, openly support anarchy, and focus on everything that doesn’t matter to the last man on the ground, but the 500 crores spent on Media makes him a messiah for the mango man. Because roti.. it all boils to.

What else would motivate a political party that wishes to be entrusted with the responsibility of the lives of billions of people, to demolish democracy by asking a dubious foreign firm to manipulate its people into voting it back to power? What would motivate a party like that to frame people, brand innocents, terrorists, shield actual terrorists, light a fire and watch the country burn? It is the urge to secure livelihood.. the urge to amass means with which they can luxuriously live their empty, hollow lives, sans virtues, sans ideals, sans sanctity.

One wonders if it weren’t for the jungle instincts of survival, convenience, and livelihood, why would these self-proclaimed liberals be allowed to propagate lies after lies with impunity, without consequences, all the while holding the torch of virtue?

And this misplaced discourse then manifests itself on platforms made for public discourse.

Where the very liberals who perpetuate this mentality believe that if someone is supporting an opposing ideology, they must be paid, because why would anyone say or do anything for anything other than ‘Roti’. And if they don’t like what is being said, if it inconvenient to them, to what forms of the basis for their ‘roti’, the only response is to ensure the other person’s livelihood is taken away.

It is indeed the way of the jungle.. the fittest survive.. because they can hunt.. hunt and eat. Everything, from ideological support to means to oppose must boil down to means of livelihood.

Mankind evolved, but the trace elements of the jungle remained. Never bite the hand that feeds. Uphold the interests of the ones who feed.

For most, it is not the luxury of not cringing while looking into the mirror that counts, it is the means to own a mirror that matters. The treachery of our times lies in selling our souls for pocket change. The treachery of our times lies in letting men who would sell the people to secure their seats at the high table, rule the discourse.

The treachery of our times lies in chasing livelihood, and not an honourable livelihood. Where even the ones who win the rat race, unpurposefully, mindlessly, soullessly, remain rats, after all.

It is indeed unfair to chide Saroj Khan for what she said. What she said is a reflection of the principles Bollywood functions on, and the liberal society it chooses to mirror.

ED attaches assets of DPIL worth Rs 1122 crores over bank fraud charges

0

The Enforcement Directorate has today attached assets of Vadodara based firm Diamond Powers Infrastructure Limited valued at Rs 1122 crores over allegations of bank fraud. According to reports, the attached properties include windmills, plants, machinery, an under-construction hotel and several bungalows, flats and plots.

DPIL and its promoters are accused of cheating various banks of Rs 2654 crores and the CBI had registered FIR on them last month. The promoter of this firm is reportedly one Suresh Bhatnagar. Bhatnagar’s two sons Amit and Sumit who are the Managing Director and Joint Managing Director of the firm respectively are also accused in the case.

The CBI had reportedly alleged that the accused had fraudulently availed loans from a consortium of 11 public and private banks. The firm was sanctioned term loans and credits despite being in the RBI’s defaulters list and ECGC caution list. Axis Bank and Bank of India were the leading banks who sanctioned them term loans and cash credits respectively. Several bank officials were also named in the CBI FIR.

The CBI reportedly alleges that DPIL projected inflated turnovers to the banks which never materialised. The firm had also submitted false stock records and the Bank Of India officials never reduced its cash credit limit.

The ED has reportedly stated that the assets of DPIL and its sister concerns such as Diamond Power Transformer Ltd, Diamond Projects Ltd, Mayfair Leisures and Northway Spaces have been attached as part of the provisional order. The CBI had arrested Suresh Bhatnagar and both his sons on 18 April.

A 31-year-old Sikh widow and mother of three from Hoshiarpur, who had gone to Pakistan to celebrate Baisakhi festival as part of Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) Sikh delegation, has reportedly married a Lahore based man and converted to Islam. Her family alleges that she may have fallen into the hands of Pakistan’s Inter-service Intelligence and forced to convert and remarry saying there has been no official communication from any quarter about her current status.

According to reports, she went to Pakistan on 12th April on her Indian passport with Pakistani visa valid till 21st April. However, she went missing on 16th April when she reportedly embraced Islam at Darul-Aloom Jamia Naeemia in Lahore on 16 April and later had a “nikah” with Pakistani national Muhammed Azam.

The woman, who is a widow and mother of three children was living in her village with her in-laws. Her father in law, Tarsem Singh, believes that she might have come in touch with Pakistani national, whom she reportedly married, through Facebook.

Curiously, her visa extension application has her name mentioned as Amna Bibi, while she has signed it as Amina. Pakistan Home Ministry has granted her six months visa extension.
