Calling the death penalty for child rapists a political gimmick is height of liberal hypocrisy

0

On April 21 morning, Prime Minister Modi returned from the Commonwealth Heads of Government meeting in Europe. Hours later, the 68-year-old Prime Minister held a Cabinet meeting and approved an ordinance allowing for the death penalty in cases where children below the age of 12 have been raped.

Since that day, there has been a rash of stories in mainstream media outlets calling the move a ‘political gimmick’ and trying to run it down. I present here only a few samples from outlets that are usual suspects.

Yes, indeed, everyone got the memo.

In itself, this is not surprising. The mainstream media has reflexively criticized almost every decision that the Modi government has taken in the last four years. Depending on the situation, liberals have opposed everything: low inflation, high inflation, economic reforms, lack of economic reforms, Supreme Court, World Bank, IMF, EVM, RBI, Yoga day, Pythagoras Theorem, just about anything to oppose Modi. On some particularly bad days, ‘liberals’ have even come out in favour of open defecation simply because they hate Modi so much.

However, it takes a special kind of hypocrite to cry wolf when the government brings in the death penalty for rape of children below 12 years of age. Even if they think it is a political gimmick. First, they opportunistically and cynically politicize the rape of an innocent child for their gains. When the other side responds with a political solution to something that *they* turned into a political issue, they cry foul!

When the Kathua incident rocked the national conscience, liberals were perfectly happy to let the single incident dominate the headlines to the exclusion of everything else. Anybody who dared to say a word about rapes of other children around the same time in Assam or Bihar, for instance, was silenced with angry howls of “whataboutism.”

We understand that as a matter of practicality, not every crime can receive the same amount of coverage in a nation of 1.3 billion people. But how do you explain the hostility of the liberal elite at the mention of other similar injustices across the country? If they really cared about the issue of child rape, wouldn’t they welcome people trying to bring other such acts to attention?

When you mention the rape of a child in Bihar, their response was not, “That’s horrifying. Thank you for bringing this to our attention. Tell me more. What can we do to help ensure speedy justice?”

Instead, their response was “Shut up.”

It’s like they wanted people to hear about Kathua *only*. Why? Because their target was Modi, not sexual crimes against children. If that means using the rape of an 8-year-old for political gains, so be it.

When you play a game this dirty, you can’t whine when the other side comes up with its own political response. I personally feel that death penalty in matters of child rape is a moral imperative. You may be cynical and you may see it as a political gimmick.

But at least don’t whine. You reap what you sow.

Ahmad Patel delivers an ‘agrarian crisis’ full toss, Jayanta Sinha hits it out for a six

0

Senior leader and Rajya Sabha member Ahmed Patel recently scored another self-goal for Congress party. Ahmed Patel tweeted about the wholesale food prices with a graph showing the annual rise in wholesale food prices. While Ahmed Patel’s intention was to complain of agrarian distress, he actually showed data on how wholesale food prices have fallen since 2014.

The irony of Ahmed Patel tweeting about lower food prices was not missed by many. BJP leader and Minister of State for civil aviation Jayant Sinha grabbed it immediately.

Many Twitter users too took on Patel for admitting that the Modi government has ensured low wholesale food prices after coming to power.

Some Twitter users tried to make Ahmed Patel understand the difference between inflation and deflation.

They tried pointing out that the government ensures farmers are not hit by low food prices by MSP( Minimum Support Price), something the Modi government has made sure sees a constant increase to benefit farmers.

Congress has become very accustomed to self-goals in the recent times. Congress spokesperson Sanjay Jha got ridiculed on Twitter for inadvertently equating Karti Chidambaram with other economic offenders. Congress President Rahul Gandhi too recently asserted that big scams cannot continue without the involvement of top government brass, indirectly admitting the Nirav Modi scam which had begun in 2011.

Bengal Panchayat candidates attacked by TMC goons allowed to file nominations via WhatsApp

0

The Calcutta High Court on Tuesday approved the act of nine West Bengal Panchayat election candidates filing their nomination papers via WhatsApp, and directed the State Election Commission to approve the same. The High Court also added that if these nominations are rejected, it would again put a stay on election process like it did on 12 April.

These candidates who belong to a “Save Land, Livelihood, Home and Environment Committee” have alleged that sending nominations via WhatsApp was their only option, in light of TMC goons attacking them to prevent their filing of nominations for the Polerhat II gram panchayat.

As per the petitioner Sharmishta Chowdhury, they were attacked by over 100 TMC goons while going to the office of additional district magistrate, to file their nominations. The goons also allegedly confined them in a room for an hour and tore their nomination papers.

The High Court on Monday had given a day extra to 11 candidates for filing their nomination papers, thus they had rushed to the Alipore treasury building armed with the court order, but even ended up getting attacked there. Thus they claimed to have no other resort left but to send their nomination via WhatsApp, and thus feared cancellation of their nomination owing to not being present in front of the authorised official.

Following this order, BJP’s national secretary Rahul Sinha has questioned as to why can’t the nominations also be filed online, and announced his intention to approach the High Court regarding the same.

Ever since the buildup to the West Bengal Panchayat elections has begun, various incidences of violence have been reported against opposition party workers like the BJP, who have accused the ruling TMC dispensation of the same. This included the TMC being accused of using violence to prevent other parties from filing nomination papers, thereby possibly winning unopposed on quite a few seats.

Following such attacks, which included 30 BJP workers being attacked in the state’s Birbhum district (which resulted in one death), the victims are all set to meet President Kovind to appraise him about the matter. As per West Bengal BJP Vice President Biswapriya Roy Chowdhury, the victims would also go to the party’s head office.

ICC tweets anti-Modi gibberish, ‘who is handling your account’ ask people

International Cricket Council today tweeted a despicable anti-Modi tweet that has taken Twitter by storm. It quoted a tweet from the co-founder of leftist propaganda website and self-proclaimed “fact checkers” who have themselves been caught lying several times. It was also recently revealed that these alleged fact-checking website Alt News received donations from the controversial author Arundhati Roy’s trust regularly who is herself notorious for spreading fake news and anti-India narrative.

The tweet that has now been deleted by ICC :

Twitter reacted sharply to this tweet by ICC. Many tweeted immediately wondering who was handling the ICC Twitter account and why an international body should indulge itself in rhetoric insulting the head of the nation.

Some even wondered if ICC was going to contest Indian elections, considering they were sharing such political tweets.

Some even poked fun at ICC, considering whenever India refuses to play Pakistan due to cross-border terrorism, the standard line peddled by most is that Cricket and Politics should not be mixed.

Others wondered if ICC was looking for a Social Media manager, considering they must surely be firing the current one after this fiasco.

Even though the tweet has now been deleted, the damage to the reputation of ICC is perhaps permanent.

The facade of Indian Feminism : Deceptive activism that stands in the way of empowerment

0

Considering the current mood of the country, I think the only appropriate way to start, is with a disclaimer: The aim is not to deny misogyny, but only asses the mechanism by which we aim to eliminate it. The discrimination and the sexism faced by women from all strata of the society is humongous. The only thing that changes is its form as we move from one type of setting to another.

Somedays it is primetime Nirbhaya, other days nondescript girls who become mere statistics, and on every other day, some girl’s character assassination is carried out by a man whose affection was turned down by her. We kill our unborn daughters and burn our brides, feel sorry for people who have no son, some of us keep having children till a male is finally born and some find it pointless to educate their daughters. These varied forms of sexism are based on the presumption of women being lesser mortals than men.

Feminism, very much like secularism is a western import to India, brought by the ‘liberals’ (I use the word for the lack of a more widely known word to refer to them and realize perfectly well that they are very antithesis of the word they are known by), whose usefulness to the Indian society is questionable. Just like secularism, the nobility of the idea of this ‘ism’ is undeniable, but the problem is the meaning it has assumed in the Indian social and political discourse. Indian feminism appears to be faintly concerned with the cause of enabling educated, wise, empowered and financially independent women. Also, the principle it is based on, i.e. the assumed “equality of the sexes” is unnatural. Here, I attempt to discuss the following three aspects of feminism, of which the first two are explored in the Indian context while the last concerns the concept of feminism itself.

  1. Meaning of the term “feminism” in the Indian discourse,
  2. The purposefulness of replicating a western concept in Bharat
  3. The strength of the feminism’s foundation (which is an assumption) and its proximity to reality.

Meaning of Feminism in Bharat

It would be banal to state that the torchbearers of Indian feminism have found the most extreme forms of misogyny in festivals and traditions of Hindus. The celebration of love between siblings is sexist as it reinforces the role of the male as the protector, while Karva Chauth is sexist as it ‘forces’ women to fast ‘for men’. However, Karva Chauth being a celebration of a woman playing the role of the protector or reviver of her husband by penance (standard stories of Veervati and Savitri read by women observing the fast) does not make the poor festival non-sexist.

Since discussion of each festival of the natives that have been vilified on the basis of specious logic and misinformation by the feminists is content enough for a book, let us move to another pet cause of the feminists i.e. promotion of westernized women as empowered and free. The set of men who turned feminist on being gifted pink chaddis would at best be a null set. While failing in its intended purpose, what it did was to make drinking, smoking and wearing certain kinds of clothes synonymous with being a liberated woman.

This trend is seen all around us and what it does is extremely dangerous. It sets the ground for the profiling of women on the basis of things as superficial as clothes. It ingrains in the subconscious of young women that wearing traditional attire or being restrictive about the number of sexual partners they have, categorizes them as meek women submitting to patriarchy and hence unacceptable in the ‘progressive circles’. Such situations in most cases result in women transforming to obey the progressive laws or not having a ‘vibrant social life’.

It is not difficult to see that the assault is hardly on patriarchy but on the very lifestyle of the natives and feminism is just a tool that comes in handy. The less juicy topics of toilets for women in schools, their education, their economic empowerment via vocational training etc. find very few takers and are raised when the narrative requires the government to be attacked. The occasional talk (just that) of this topic is, however, essential to maintaining the façade of feminism.

The purposefulness of replicating feminism in Bharat

The next step is to analyze the change brought about by the expensive import of western feminism in the lives of disadvantaged Indian women. Before delving into that we must take cognizance of the fact that forceful assertion of the female identity will not earn women respect in the workplace or a societal status at par with that of men.

Some may argue that determined demands of women did earn them suffrage in the west and got the laws amended in their favour [protection of women from domestic violence act 2005] [prohibition of sexual harassment of women at the workplace act 2010]. There is no doubt that it did work in the west. However, in the case of India, the cited laws have neither ensured that the activities prohibited by them do not occur nor have they been able to provide justice to all the victims of the prohibited activity. Additionally, the placard bearing self-appointed Zamindars of feminism had hardly any contribution towards their enactment.

Being a feminist does not require a person to bring about changes in the law to empower women, just making the right noises and standing up against patriarchy is enough contribution. Feminism in India fails even at voicing the opinions that would benefit the female cause and in most cases ends up being counter-productive. Their problem is that given the viciousness, they are filled with for the Indics, they indulge in berating and labelling of people they think are patriarchal.

A hypothetical example would be a Sarpanch of a Khap Panchayat who relates rapes with women drinking carbonated water. The first step of the feminists would be to popularize him and his statement for it suits their narrative of natives being unevolved, unscientific idiots who hold women responsible for being raped. The next would be to label him as an imbecile and a misogynist and consequently conflate him with his entire clan if he belongs to the non-Abrahamic community. The width of the societal subsection picked is determined by the sub-community he belongs to. The outcome would be Women: 0, Feminism: +1 and Community: -1. Also, when such Sarpanch(s) and his ilk get to know about condescension of their festivals by feminists it will further his resolve to not let women get an education.

Similarly, though one may feel like a very strong warrior for women’s rights by excessively using the word vagina in an article, its net effect in terms of women empowerment is zero at best and negative at worst. The concluding message is that the prejudiced and ill-informed critique of Indic culture makes societies more averse to female empowerment, especially the ones who need it most desperately.

Fallacies of Feminism

The very definition of feminism is “the advocacy of women’s rights on the ground of the equality of the sexes”. The problem with that definition is that it does not recognize the inherent differences between a male and a female. This is deeply unfair to women as it implicitly demands from women to compete with men in a game picked by the latter. The two have different hormones which make behave differently, want different things and prioritize goals differently. Western feminism has only recently taken cognizance of it and it is this difference which justifies the demands menstrual and maternal leaves.

The Indic Solution

The cause of women empowerment would be better served if we contribute positively using our sound philosophical knowledge systems rather than just parroting decade old western concepts of feminism. If we copy, we always stay behind, but if we innovate and build using our indigenous concepts we could be pioneers.

Also, if we somehow collectively denounce western feminism as a tool for the uplifting of women, then what do we replace it with? There is no doubt about the fact that the status of women in Indian society is far from ideal (from the native/Aryan perspective). A minor illustration of the same is as follows:

Any civilization that claims to base itself on Vedic knowledge system would know that the fundamental element that separates a male from a female is the ‘deha’ or the gross body. The soul or the ‘brahm’ is the same. While the body made of five elements is destructible, the soul is eternal (Bhagavad Gita 2.18 and 2.17) and hence, the essence of life is the latter. This philosophy brings all living creature at the same level, since the differences of the bodily coverings of the soul are superficial, ephemeral and therefore, inconsequential. It is important to note, that while fundamental life force is same, by the virtue of which all living creatures must be treated with respect, there has to be recognition of bodily difference. So, the natural question to ask would be: from where and how did the malaise of treating women as lesser mortals make its way into our society that proudly claims to be in the lineage of Vedic Aryans?

There is a need to understand our traditions better, dispel myths about the status of women in our society and do away with the diseases brought to us by our invaders (purdah, obsession with the amount of body exposed by females). The strength of a man in Vedic society was not measured by the number of princesses he could forcefully keep in his harem but by the extent of his control over his senses. Societies obsessed with unchecked freedom of individual and unrestrained indulgence in sensory pleasures may even call rape a natural/biological epidemic, but the society that glorifies restraint, mastery of brain and perfect control over senses should know better and have no trouble rooting out the ailment of sexual assaults on females. A husband can torture a wife for dowry, but can he do so to his ardh-aangini?

If we can purchase an ideal society for women in exchange for our traditions/lifestyle and festivals then we must. But even that high a cost would not give us what we want, but push us further back by inducing inferiority in Bharatiya Naari. Hence, for the sake of her, we need to shake off the deceptive feminism that stands in the way of her empowerment.

Asaram convicted of rape, section 144 imposed

0

Godman Asaram Bapu was pronounced guilty of rape of a teenager in 2013 by the Jodhpur SC/ST special court today. According to reports, the verdict was announced inside a courtroom in the Jodhpur Central Jail, where Asaram is currently lodged.

Asaram was convicted along with two other accused in the case. Two of the accused were acquitted by the court. Sanchita alias Shilpi and Sharat Chandra were found guilty where two accused named Prakash and Shiva were acquitted by the Jodhpur Special Court. All others except Asaram were out on bail.

The special court had reportedly heard the final arguments on April 7th and reserved verdict for April 25. Judge Madhusudan Sharma pronounced the verdict in a courtroom located in the jail premises at around 10.40 AM today. Asaram has been lodged there for 56 months since his arrest in September 2013. The state government had reportedly appealed in the High Court for the verdict to be pronounced inside the jail premises to avoid any law and order situation like in Panchkula, Haryana, where supporters of Gurmeet Ram Rahim had spread violence after his conviction.

According to reports, section 144 has been imposed on Jodhpur and police have been kept on alert to face any breach of law and order by Asaram’s supporters. Asaram has over 400 ashrams all over the country.

Asaram, 77, was accused of rape of a 16-year-old girl at his ashram in Manai village in Jodhpur. The girl, who hails from Shahjahanpur in UP had accused that Asaram had called her to his premises and raped her on the night of August 15, 2013. Asaram was arrested on September 1, 2013. He was charged under the POCSO Act and the SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act. Over the years, Asaram had moved 12 bail petitions which were all rejected. 6 petitions were rejected by the Jodhpur Trial Court, 3 by the Rajasthan High Court and 3 by the Supreme Court.

Asaram is also accused on other rape charges against him filed by two sisters in Gujrat separately. His son Narayan Sai is also accused of rape and illegal confinement in the cases. Over the years, many witnesses and key persons related to Asaram’s case have been reportedly attacked and some have gone missing.

According to reports, apart from Jodhpur city, even the house of the victim girl has been converted into a fortress by armed guards, women police officers and several intelligence officers to prevent any attempts of violence and intimidation by Asaram’s followers.

Modi govt sheds light on the ‘era of professional protesters’ during Supreme Court hearing

0

During a hearing in the Supreme Court on Tuesday, the centre while justifying the prohibitory orders under section 144 in central Delhi, called the current times as an “era of the professional protesters”. This hearing was called with regards to a PIL filed by an NGO opposing the continuous imposition of prohibitory orders, by arguing that it “obstructed the fundamental right to protest”.

As per Additional Solicitor General Tushar Mehta, in this era, professional protesters prefer to protest outside government buildings like the Supreme Court, Parliament and the residences of the Prime Minister and the President, without considering any alternative venues for their agitation. He thus contended that the protests lead to a serious law and order situation, thereby prompting the government to take holistic steps. He also clarified that the government did not mean that all protesters are professionals.

It has been reported that the Delhi police has been imposing section 144 from January 2017 to October 2017 for declaring the entire of New Delhi as a prohibited area. As the order under the said section is only valid for two months, the police has been issuing the order repeatedly.

This didn’t impress the lawyer of NGO Mazdoor Kisan Shakti Sanghatan – Prashant Bhushan who contended that prohibitory orders cannot be continuously imposed. He also objected to the term “professional protesters”.

Incidentally, besides the government’s claim, there have been independent whispers of paid protesters in India.

Reports have hinted at the stone pelting protester in Kashmir being paid about Rs 7000 a month to pelt stones at the security forces, besides being given accessories like clothes and shoes. It has been claimed that Pakistan’s intelligence agency ISI helps fund these protests via the Hurriyat.

Even during the protests against the Kudankulam nuclear project, it was reported how the license of three NGOs was cancelled for diverting funds to mobilise protests against the nuclear project.

Juna Akhara to designate a Dalit sanyasi as Mahamandaleshwar in the 2019 Kumbh

0

For the first time in the history of Juna Akhara, a Dalit sanyasi will be designated as ‘Mahamandaleswar’, the presiding position in the akhara which is considered one of India’s oldest and largest order of sanyasis. According to reports, 32-year-old Kanhaiya Kumar Kashyap will be declared Mahamandaleshwar during the 2019 Kumbh.

Kanhaiya Kumar Kashyap was reportedly honoured in a Pattabhishek ceremony by all senior seers of the Akhara and was named as Shivanand Giri.

According to reports, Shivanand Giri was given the title of ‘Gosai’ in 2016. He hails from the village of Barauli Diwakar Patti, about 22 kilometres away from Azamgarh. He has stated that as a child he was denied admission into a gurukul near his village and later went ahead to obtain the degree of Jyotishacharya from the Bharatiya Jyotish Vigyan Kendra in Chandigarh. He was later inducted into the Juna Akhara. On being named Mahamandaleshwar, he has stated that with more people like him being given such important responsibility, the day will soon come when caste discriminations will end. Juna Akhara reportedly follows the sanyasi tradition and has always been inclusive of all castes.

Shivanand Giri has reportedly stated that the lack of religious gurus in the Dalit communities makes them vulnerable to conversion and the practice of converting Dalits to other religions will stop when more sanyasis like him will come forward to show them the light of virtue. Juna Akhara has reportedly given Deeksha to two more people on Tuesday. They are Renu Sharma, a student from Allahabad University and Amit Joshi, an RSS worker.

Juna Akhara’s Jagadguru Panchanandgiriji Maharaj has reportedly stated that Shivanand will rise to the position of Mahamandaleshwar for his knowledge and his caste is immaterial. He added that the time has come when caste boundaries should dissipate.

We had recently reported how in Telangana, a priest had recently carried a Dalit man on his shoulders to enact a 2700-year-old ritual in a bid to promote equality and end discrimination.

With Temples taking the lead, tackling caste discrimination will be an easier path to tread.

Is ‘The Wire’ a gun for hire to attack Piyush Goyal

Earlier this month, the leftist propaganda website, ‘The Wire’, which has become the go-to website for Congress and Left propaganda, second only to National Herald – tried to come up with a hit job against union Railways and Coal Minister Piyush Goyal. Their hit-job, of course, didn’t hold water and debunked in no time, even as Rahul Gandhi rode ‘The Wire’s’ clown car of lies all the way to a self-goal.

What is interesting, however, is that Congress seems to have taken the mantle and has started attacking Piyush Goyal fashioning their uninformed gibbering around ‘The Wire’s’ shoddy articles. Perhaps the party finally realised that their proxy mouthpiece wasn’t being taken seriously enough and that instead of outsourcing the job, they should do it themselves.

However, the party’s flop show in a way ended up giving away the hint that their allegations were weak because, in their own documents that they shared in the press conference, it was clearly mentioned that Piyush Goyal and his wife stopped all businesses on his becoming a minister to avoid any conflict of interest. Their own documents also indicated that Piyush Goyal had sold his investments off.

Perhaps that is why no one in the media, except The Wire, took Congress’ allegations at face value. The allegations were carried as some gospel truth only by Congress’ own mouthpiece National Herald, through its Hindi version, and Rahul Gandhi sadly dragged the name of Shirdi temple and ridiculed the faith of its devotees while raking up the issue to which many followers took strong objection. Rahul Gandhi eventually not only ended up exposing his lack of facts but also his utter disdain for Hinduism that even his political-janeu-dhaari avataar couldn’t mask.

It is indeed strange that the Congress party would insinuate wrongdoing when Piyush Goyal, prior to becoming a Minister indulged in the regular course of business as a professional CA coming from a business background. When he became the Minister, he resigned from the companies in the spirit of transparency. He had paid regular taxes as a businessman and there was no default in the companies that Piyush Goyal owned.

‘The Wire’ seems to focus on inane questions like which company was sold to whom, for how much, etc, while the answers are publicly available and prove no wrongdoing. Their hitjobs thus seem to focus on carefully crafted words that insinuate, but never prove. And from what we hear, ‘The Wire’ is planning a similar hit job using these overused tactics.

So essentially, it does seem like Piyush Goyal, who had a successful investment banking career before he became a minister, is being maligned and targeted because perhaps Congress believes that everyone in politics should be like Rahul Gandhi – with no professional sources of income to justify their political activities.

Goyal’s bonafide business dealings are a matter of public record and it indeed seems strange that Congress is clutching on to straws and creating controversies out of thin air.

While it is extremely easy to hurl allegations and follow the Rahul Gandhi mantra of shoot and scoot, real journalism demands to bring out all facets of the story honestly. To have an undying pursuit of truth and facts without casting aspersions, sensationalising stories and raising conjectures.

It is time The Wire stops doing political hitjobs and starts doing some real journalism.

As for the Congress, perhaps it would serve them well if they focussed on real issues and answered for their own scams and wrongdoings before shooting in the dark, hoping that the bullet at least lands in the vicinity of the right target. Rahul Gandhi’s now-a-vacation-now-a-rally-then-a-lie politics is getting tedious and raking up baseless conspiracy theories as a tool to obfuscate is no longer working.

Muslim BJP leader Bukkal Nawab ostracized by Deoband for worshipping at Hanuman Temple

0

BJP MLC Bukkal Nawab has been ostracized from Islam by Darul Uloom Deoband for worshipping Lord Hanuman at a temple in Lucknow. According to reports, Nawab, who had joined BJP from Samajwadi Party last year, had offered prayers and gifted a brass bell at a temple in Hazratganj area in the city.

The head of the Madarsa Darul Ulum, Asharfia Maulana Saalim Ashraf Qasmi has reportedly stated that Bukkal Nawab has been expelled from the Muslim community for indulging in anti-Muslim activities. He added that Islam does not allow idol worship and any devout Muslim paying obeisance to any other god than Allah ceases to remain a Muslim. He also stated that Bukkal Nawab should repent his un-Islamic act by seeking forgiveness from Allah.

According to reports, Bukkal Nawab offered prayers at the Hanuman temple after being nominated to the upper legislative house by BJP. Nawab reportedly had also supported Ram Mandir at Ayodhya in the past and had gifted a gold crown worth Rs 10 lakh to the temple. When asked about the fatwa issued against him by Deoband, he stated that he was not bothered.

As per reports, Bukkal Nawab stated that besides being a Muslim, he is a Hanuman Bhakt too and like Lord Hanuman, Lord Ram is our ancestor. He added that the constitution of India allows its citizens the right to practice any religion and that he is not worried about any fatwa as the fatwa is aimed at dividing members of the two communities.

Earlier in March, a similar fatwa was issued against BJP Minister Mohsin Raza after he offered prayers at a Hanuman temple. The Aligarh based Darul Ulum Deoband is famous for its frequent fatwas. Earlier they had issued a fatwa against Muslim women taking the help of a shopkeeper while trying bangles. They also have a fatwa against DJ and music at wedding celebrations. They have also called Life Insurance ‘un-Islamic’ and banned it.

However, Samajwadi Party leader Azam Khan has reportedly supported his former party colleague strongly. Azam Khan reportedly questioned who had ousted Bukkal Nawab from Islam and why. He also added that how many more will become the keepers of Islam and how many people they will ostracise. He also reportedly added that it is not for Deoband to decide who is Muslim and who is not.
