After initial denial, Congress admits to ‘secret Pakistan meeting’ as alleged by Modi

0

It is the Rahul Gandhi meets China envoy controversy all over again. In July this year, Congress found itself in a quandary when within 24 hours, they first denied, and then admitted that Rahul Gandhi had met up with Chinese Ambassador to India Luo Zhaohui amid the then ongoing standoff between India and China. Now replace China with Pakistan and replace Rahul Gandhi with other senior Congress leaders.

Yesterday, in a speech in a Gujarat Rally, Modi mentioned stated how news reports were discussing a “secret” meeting of some Pakistani officials and some Congress leaders. He reportedly said:

“Across the media yesterday there was a discussion…that at Mani Shankar Aiyar’s house…Pakistan’s high commissioner, Pakistan’s former foreign minister, India’s former vice president, and India’s former Prime Minister…Manmohan Singh…they had a meeting at Mani Shankar’s house. The meeting lasted three hours. And the next day, this Mani Shankar called Modi ‘neech”/”low-level’… “It is a serious matter… that Pakistan … its a sensitive issue… at that time what is the reason to have such a secret meeting with the Pakistan high commissioner? And while elections are on in Gujarat, what is the reason for this type of secret meeting?”

The allegation was clear: Some current and former Pakistani officials had met up with Congress leaders like Mani Shankar Aiyar and former PM Manmohan Singh. Modi asked what was the purpose of the secret meeting at a time when Gujarat was going to polls. Modi steered clear of making any direct allegations of collusion or anti-national activity, but the innuendo was clear.

Congress began its damage control by denial. An NDTV report claimed that the Congress had termed the allegations “baseless”. It quoted Randeep Singh Surjewala, Congress spokesperson as saying:

“Holding the country’s topmost post, Modiji is making baseless allegations. Modiji is worried, dejected, angry. Such a statement has no truth or fact, and is based on lies. Such a behaviour is unbecoming of a Prime Minister.”

Similarly, senior Congress leader Anand Sharma claimed that it was a “lie being sold by the Prime Minister”. Further, he stated that IF, the allegation was true, it would have been an act of treason:

“If he had this information, and if it is true, which is not, then it would have been an act of treason and action should have been there under law. Why is he crying there? If there is anything like that, why has he spoken now?”

Congress supporters too accused the Prime Minister of indulging in “Trump-level ranting”:

Today, General Kapoor, one of the alleged attendees of the meeting went on record admitting that such a meeting indeed took place. The Indian Express report also claimed that other attendees to admitted that there was such a meeting, but all, including General Kapoor denied that any discussion relating to domestic politics took place.

While there is no reason to distrust that General Kapoor would not discuss Indian politics with Pakistan officials, the same can not be said about Mani Shankar Aiyar. A person who goes to Pakistan and tells them to ‘remove Modi and bring Congress to power’ and talks about Bihar elections, would find it next to impossible to repeat the same in context of Gujarat elections:

Regardless of what was discussed, it became official that such a meeting did take place. Congress leader Anand Sharma sang a different tune today. He accepted that the meeting did take place but denied any sinister intentions. To complete the U-Turn of the Congress, former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, who was reported by NDTV as being silent during the meeting, issued a statement today, which was tweeted out by the Congress social media handle.

Singh admitted that there was a dinner meeting at Mani Shankar Aiyar’s place but stressed that Gujarat was not discussed. Not only did he admit to the meeting, he gave a list of all the attendees:

List posted by official Congress account on Twitter

With this, Congress has now virtually accepted Modi’s direct allegation that a meeting took place involving certain Pakistani and Congress people, during the height of the Gujarat elections. Modi’s innuendo that this meeting was linked to the Gujarat elections, has been denied by all concerned.

The Congress can only escape from this tangle by claiming they had initially denied only the innuendo and not the meeting. But the damage seems to be done, as BJP is now asking why did the party first deny the meeting taking place.

Hindu boy brutally murdered, but Karnataka police calls it ‘normal death’

0

In a chilling case of human barbarism, the body of a poor 21 years old boy was recovered from a lake in Honnavar town of Karnataka. It was reported that body which was recovered on Friday contained signs of extreme torture like being burnt, mutilated and castrated.

As per media reports, the boy named Paresh Mesta was most likely trying to escape stone pelting that erupted after a fight between a motorbike and an auto rickshaw driver turned into communal violence. Paresh went missing on Wednesday night.

After his body was recovered, police claimed that the boy had accidentally drowned in the lake while escaping the mob. This has been rubbished by his family members who stated that he was an expert swimmer and belonged to the fishermen community. The mutilation of his body too was cited as reason for this not being a death due to drowning.

On Friday, hundreds including union minister and BJP leader  Anantkumar Hegde thronged to join Paresh’s funeral procession:

“A complaint has been filed that five people – Imtiaz, Azad, Amir, Salim and Asif – were involved in Paresh’s murder,” Honnavar BJP president Subraya Nayak said.

The postmortem of the body was conducted in the government hospital in Honnavar, and the reasons behind the death was yet to be ascertained, the Times of India report claims, but the SP of that area dubbed it as a ‘normal death’.

Many were shocked by this incident and people registered their protest on Twitter:

A few called for the organisation of a protest march:

Recently the nation witnessed another brutal murder where a Muslim man was burnt to death over allegations that he committed love jihad with the accused’s sister. This incident resulted in a tremendous outrage, which also included Asaduddin Owaisi questioning PM Modi’s silence over this matter. The same section of commentariat and ‘activists’ has been found to be silent over this issue.

Latest reports suggest that there have been some violent protests in the Uttara Kannada district of Karnataka over the allegations of murder being covered up by the state police.

Priceless Ashtadhatu idols stolen from ancient Ramjanki temple in UP

0

The ancient Ramjanki temple situated in Amkheda village of Uttar Pradesh’s Jalaun district has witnessed the theft of its donation box and priceless Ashtadhatu idols of Lord Ram, Goddess Sita and Laxman.

On Saturday the priest of the temple named Sarvesh Kumar Upadhaya closed the temple at about 8 PM. But when a few women came to pray the next morning, they noticed the idol and donation theft, after which they raised an alarm.

Villagers as a result were incensed and confronted the police. The priest later filed a police complaint regarding this matter. On the basis of this, a police team comprising of the chief police officer Brijnesh Yadav, Sub Inspector Sobran Singh, reached the spot to investigate.

The approximate weight of the idols averaged at about 4-5 Kgs and one report speculated their value to be in crores.

Questions might be raised about the law and order situation as reports have claimed that the village has been prone to thefts in the past as well. In 2015 the thieves had attacked 4-5 houses in the village. The police had failed to apprehend the culprits.

Incidentally a similar theft of idols took place on 8th December in a Jain temple situated in Chhattisgarh’s Dhamtari district. The police in this region though decided to act swiftly and arrested the culprit within 24 hours. They also recovered two idols.

A similar theft combined with vandalism has recently also taken place in Bihar’s Bhojpur district. The thieves stole precious jewels from the Maa Tara temple in district’s Piro region. They also tried to steal the idol and when they weren’t successful, decided to desecrate it.

Theft of ancient artefacts is a very serious issue which plagues the nation, many of which are sold illegally on the international market and volunteers like Anuraag Saxena, associated with the Indian Pride Project are doing their utmost to get back India’s stolen artefacts.

It has been reported that a whopping 50,000 of India’s idols and artefacts have been stolen since 1989. Some of the priceless artefacts which India has lost include Idols, maps, manuscripts, paintings, murals, sculptures. One sandstone sculpture which was once stole from Madhya Pradesh is estimated to carry a market value of Rs 100 crores.

Researchers who assumed Pakistani men are unfairly branded as grooming gang members, find they are wrong

0

In recent years, the United Kingdom has been infested with a menace of grooming gangs who target mostly underage girls with alcohol and drugs before sexually abusing them. Investigations have revealed hundreds of such grooming cases since 2011 which have happened in regions like Rochdale, Rotherham and Birmingham.

Considering such a rampant problem, an anti-extremism think tank named Quilliam has come out with a report that failure of British-Pakistani Muslim men to integrate into the British society has led to the creation of such gangs.

Interestingly, the researchers who had started to analyse a total of 264 convictions in these grooming cases had expected to find that the tag of Pakistani Muslim aggressors was merely a very unfair stereotype.

But much to their surprise, a total of 84% of those convicted were found to be of Asian origin. As per Muna Adil, one of the authors of this report, claimed that they began this report thinking that they would debunk this over representation of Asians but much were alarmed and dismayed by their findings.

The report also urges that politicians and the police should shrug off their political correctness to tackle this problem head on. As per the co-author of this report named Haras Rafiq, it is also very important to talk about this issue as the problem simply won’t go away.

In an Indian context, such cases of grooming gangs might be considered similar to the instances of love jihad which currently occupy a taboo status when it comes to the leftist-liberal narrative.

Like liberals have been reported to be turning a blind eye towards love jihad, Sarah Champion a Labour MP has claimed that people were more afraid about being branded a racist than they were of being proven wrong, when it came to such grooming cases. The MP also stated that the majority of the perpetrators were British Pakistani and questioned as to why no research was being commissioned to uncover more about this matter.

The absurdity of the ‘solution’ to build a Hospital at Ram Janmabhoomi

0

When I was younger, on the question of Ayodhya, I would have told you, ‘Why bother for a Mandir? Why not build a Hospital or a School and do something good for the society? That would be more godly.’

It was a genuine feeling – so I would like to think, and there would perhaps not be a tinge of guilt in making the suggestion. Today, however, I do see through the convenient hypocrisy of this suggestion.

There are several reasons for saying so – but, they perhaps need to be articulated systematically. It is therefore, important to first dissect the suggestion to understand its fundamental rationale.

The suggestion ostentatiously rests on the premise of the superiority of the services provided by Hospitals and Schools as against those provided by Temples. It would not be presumptuous to extrapolate the argument on behalf of its proponents to include that Temples are a drain of resources and wealth of the nation.

Here is why the argument is hypocritical. Despite the fact that an ‘urbanised’ section of the Indian populace may believe in the futility of temples, it remains a fact that temples do provide an immense amount of support to the large practicing Hindu population of India. Unfortunately, this same population is too subdued and knows no means of making its voice heard. So, neglecting the value temples hold to hundreds of millions of voiceless Hindus is essentially a coup of national priorities by the Urbanised Indians who make their case based on inherited Hindu names that they place no value on.

Moreover, it is also well known that as with any other institution – religious or otherwise, hospitals and schools are breeding grounds of corruption and exploitation of the society as well, if such a case is to be made against temples.

The second argument in favour of building a hospital is the hope that it will bypass communal ill will. However, in reality this is a dangerous appeasement tactic, which has been consistently proven to not work over the history of mankind. It only brushes conflicts under the rug until they resurrect with greater ferocity. This in fact is an escapist and cowardly approach, that runs away from the very fundamental question that India has been facing since independence. The question being – does India (irrespective of religious communities) have the honesty and courage to admit and correct wrongs done by restoring the sites of Indian civilisations to their deserved respect? To suggest there is an iota of communalism in this ask is disingenuous.

Thirdly, there is an inherent insincerity in asking for a hospital at Ayodhya in that it does not rest on a sound, repeatable principle. If the overarching principle substantiating the demand is the superiority of hospitals and similar services over benefits of a religious institution, then it must be universally sought, including as much on Jama Masjid, Golden Temple, St Pauls Cathedral and as on every place of worship. If one were to ask such, it might still be appreciated as a principled approach. But, unfortunately Ayodhya has been made a special case for hospital. A special casing that is sought on account of the first two reasons, and so, is entirely hypocritical.

Also, as someone on social media had asked, will these people be happy if a Ram Mandir is build at Ayodhya with the promise that bulk of the chadhava (donations and offerings by the faithfuls) will be used to fund a hospital and a school? Clearly this solution is not amendable to them, as their motive is not to build a hospital or a school, but to stop building a temple.

Those seeking the building of a temple at Ayodhya do not debate the merits of a Hospital or a School at all. But they do question the wretchedness and lack of courage to admit the ugly pieces of our history and take corrective actions in the restoration of our civilisation. It is too easy to see through the deception inherent in the suggestion. It tries to emotionally distort the question at a very superficial level and obscure the underlying troubling issues for which there aren’t easy answers.

It is absurd to suggest that Indian civilisation stands apart from Ramayan and Mahabharat. The life of Lord Ram is the very essence of the five millenia old civilisation that in the modern day manifests as India. Whether scientific rationality allows one to believe in the historicity of Ramayan is another matter. Irrespective, it is a plain truth that the conception of Lord Ram is a pillar of the Indian civilisation in terms of culture, value systems, as also Indic religions. In the multi dimensional diversity of a country like India that includes differences in languages, dressing, food, music and so many other aspects, the value systems derived from our epics are the singular unifying spirit of the country.

After Congress, Pakistan attacks Modi over alleged meeting of Mani Shankar Aiyar with Pak envoy

0

Soon after suspended Congress leader Mani Shankar Aiyar made the derogatory “neech” comment against PM Modi, he seems to have emerged as a top target on BJP’s radar.

First a BJP leader named Ajay Aggarwal alleged that on 6th December a meeting had taken place at Mani Shankar Aiyar’s residence where Pakistan envoy, Former PM Manmohan Singh, Former VP Hamid Ansari & some Congress leaders were present. He then floated a conspiracy theory by pointing out that the very next day Aiyar made his neech comment against the PM.

PM Modi too picked it up and alleged the same on Sunday, during his campaign rally in Palanpur, Gujarat:

As per other reports, he also alleged that there was a Pakistani hand in the current Gujarat elections.

Since the allegations, PM Modi has come under fire from not just the Congress but also from Pakistani officials:

As seen above, the spokesperson of Pakistan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, possibly too hurriedly brushed off PM Modi’s allegations as ‘fabricated conspiracies’. The Congress spokesperson Randeep Surjewala too termed the allegations as baseless and claimed that the PM is worried, dejected, angry.

The congress terming PM Modi as worried might amuse a few people, considering its own leaders have started to allege EVM tampering even before the polling in Gujarat is complete.

Now, media reports have emerged which might clear the air regarding this matter. Reports say that the dinner meeting was held on December 6 at  Mani Shankar Aiyar’s residence in Delhi during the visit of Pakistan’s former foreign affairs minister Khurshid Mahmud Kasuri to India. Kasuri attended a talk hosted by Ananta Centre, a Delhi-based think-tank, on the subject, ‘The Current State of India-Pakistan Relations’, the very next day.

Other attendants of this meeting are reported to be Army chief Deepak Kapoor, former foreign minister K Natwar Singh, and former diplomats Salman Haidar, TCA Raghavan, Sharat Sabharwal, K Shankar Bajpai and Chinmaya Gharekhan. The report further states that General Kapoor confirmed he was part of the meeting at Aiyar’s residence. “Yes, I was part of the meeting and we discussed nothing more than India-Pakistan relations,” Kapoor told The Indian Express.

The report also quoted former army chief Deepak Kapoor who claimed that the meeting only contained discussions pertaining to Indo-Pak relations, thereby indirectly denying PM Modi’s allegations of an election conspiracy. This is probably not the end of this controversy.

Congress office-bearer caught spreading fake ‘survey’ of first phase of Gujarat elections

Congress has tried virtually all stunts possible to get an upper hand in the Gujarat elections. Rahul Gandhi and former PM Manmohan Singh first tried to fool the electorate by repeated lies. The party then tried its hand at Soft-Hindutva with Rahul engaging in a temple run, declaring himself a “Shiva Bhakt” and his cronies declaring him to be a “janeu-dhari” hindu. When all seemed to fail, Congress leaders spread hilarious rumours of EVM hacking. Now it seems the Congress stooges have stooped down to literally manufacturing a fake survey.

BJP spokesperson Suresh Nakhua took to Twitter to expose a calculated move to spread misinformation. Nakhua found that a person by name Rohan Gupta, had shared a survey of the polling done in the first phase of Gujarat, which showed Congress winning 65 seats.

Rohan Gupta is no ordinary twitter user. As per his bio, he is the National Media Coordinator AICC, Chairman GPCC IT Cell. Further, he uses his twitter ID to flaunt his closeness to the soon-to-be President of Congress, Rahul Gandhi:

Next, Nakhua noticed that the name of the site which claims to have carried out this survey in Gujarat, chanakyaindia.in, seemed to be similar to another public opinion polling company “Today’s Chanakya”. When one visits the site, the scene is shocking. This “survey” of Gujarat seems to have been conducted online on that very site, with zero validations on number of votes one can put and since it was open for all, no scientific selection of sample either. Of course the main issue is: How can a survey of a few seats of Gujarat, be open to voting by any person in the entire world?

While the credibility of the so called “survey” was now exposed, Nakhua decided to check who owned the site. He found out that chanakyaindia.in was registered with the email id [email protected]. And this email ID, was also associated with the site gujaratcongress.in.

GujaratCongress.in is the official site of Gujarat Congress. On the verified Twitter page of Gujarat Congress, the link for online registration is a page on GujaratCongress.in.

Further, Gujarat Congress’s official pages on twitter and facebook claim their official site to be GujaratCongress.org, but when one clicks on the URL, it redirects to GujaratCongress.in. It is fair to say, that the site for the fake survey and the Gujarat Congress site, is registered under the same email id: [email protected].

When Nakhua searched for the owner/registrant of the above email id he found out that it was the same Rohan Gupta:

Unisafe.in, the other site registered with the same email ID [email protected], is that of a “direct broker” company named “UNISAFE INSURANCE BROKERS PRIVATE LIMITED”. One of the directors of this company is Rohan Rajkumar Gupta, who is also a Director in other companies like COMET COMMUNICATIONS PRIVATE LIMITED, COMET GLOBAL PRIVATE LIMITED and COMET PERFORMANCE CHEMICALS PRIVATE LIMITED. According to Rohan Gupta’s wikipedia page, Rohan Gupta the Congress office-bearer is the same Rohan Rajkumar Gupta, the director in unisafe.in

To recap: A site publishes a fake survey of Gujarat elections. This survey is shared by National Media Coordinator AICC, Chairman GPCC IT Cell Rohan Gupta. The site is registered with an email ID which is also used to register the official Gujarat Congress site and is also used to register the site of a business concern of the same Rohan Gupta.

Not only is the survey fake and created by Congress stooges itself, there may be questions over its legality as well. As per the EC’s orders, no exit polls can be conducted or published during the period 8.00 am on 09-11-2017 to 5.30 pm on 14-12-2017.

The questions to be asked now are: Was Rohan Gupta acting in his personal capacity or on behalf of the Congress? Is this fake survey supposed to be an exit poll? Will the BJP file a complaint? And will the Election Commission act?

Rahul Gandhi greeted with “Modi Modi” chants while exiting Shree Ranchhodji Temple in Kheda, Gujarat

0

Ever since the campaigning for the Gujarat assembly elections began, Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi has been visiting one temple after another in order to possibly woo the Hindu votes of the state.

This action of the Congress leader resulted in a momentous gaffe, after social media erupted with reports of his name appearing in the ‘non-Hindu’ register before taking the darshan of the famous Somnath Temple. Rather than tactfully dealing with the issue, the Congress caused extra confusion and later took things to the next level by calling Rahul a “Janeu dhaari Hindu”.

This sucker punch though failed to dent Rahul’s vigour and he seems to have continued to visit temples in the state.

This now again seems to have caused him embarrassment, after ANI reported that he was greeted with “Modi Modi” chants while he exited the Shree Ranchhodji Temple in Kheda, Gujarat:

In the video, Rahul is seen smiling and coming out of the temple with a yellow shawl wrapped around him. But possibly much to his unhappiness, a section of the crowd then started to chant “Modi Modi” while he was exiting in his car.

This isn’t the only time Rahul Gandhi has had to deal with such heckling.

We had reported how the Congress leader had to face chants like ‘Modi, Modi’ and ‘Bharat Mata Ki Jai’ while visiting a textile market in Surat, Gujarat. Even though the visit was planned in the backdrop of Gujarat Congress’ efforts to paint demonetisation and GST a complete failure, some people were having none of it.

Such pro Modi slogans have also been witnessed in peculiar situations like, during a fight between two factions of Bihar Congress workers. There it was seen that while the fight was in full flow, few workers started their “Narendra Modi Zindabad” chants, which further escalated the matter.

BHU’s MA paper asks students to discuss about Islam’s social evils like Triple Talaq and Halala

0

The Banaras Hindu University gave people a talking point on Saturday after it was reported that its history paper contained questions like, “Discuss about teen talaq and halala as a social evil in Islam”. The paper which was a part of its MA course also contained a question on Allauddin Khilji.

The ANI put out copies of the said question paper:

Image via ANI

As seen above, some of the questions posed were, “What is Halala in Islam”, “The rate of wheat fixed by Allauddin Khilji” and “Discuss about Teen Talaq and Halala as social evils of Islam”.

Just to remind, Nikah Halala is a controversial practice in Islam where a divorced woman is required to marry and consummate her marriage with another man to allow a reunion with her first husband.

Such questions set by the BHU department have angered a section of the university students, who have alleged that the University administration is trying to impose its ideology on them. The dissenting students have also alleged that these topics were also not taught to them. One student even claimed that he/she found a question offensive.

Rajiv Srivastava, an assistant professor of the university has vociferously defended the university’s actions. As per him, if students aren’t taught such things, then how would they learn about such issues. He also claimed that history has been distorted and that they (students) need to be taught such topics to know the real history.

The professor also took a potshot at Aligarh Muslim University and the Jawaharlal Nehru University to assert that Islam too has demerits which need to be raised:

The political science question paper of the university too had recently managed to get in the news due to the type of questions framed.

As per reports, the university’s MA part-I paper named Indian Political System: Theoretical and Structural Aspects, posed questions like, Write an essay on the BJP and Write an essay on nature of GST in Kautilya’s Arthashashtra. The paper also contained a question on the AAP.
