CBI files FIR against former UPA Minister Jayanthi Natarajan over alleged clearance irregularities

Former Environment Minister Jayanthi Natarajan seems to have landed in a bit of a trouble after the CBI raided her premises on Saturday and consequently filed an FIR against her. Natarajan was the Minister of State for Environment and Forests from 2011 to 2013.

According to reports the searches were in connection with alleged environmental clearances given by her in for a project in Jharkhand. The searches were carried out in Chennai, Delhi, Sundergarh (Orissa), Kolkata and Ranchi. The case pertains to clearances given to a mining company Electrosteel Casting Limited (ECL) for diverting forest land in Sarana which falls under the Jharkhand’s Singhbhum district. These clearances allegedly violated the Forest Conservation Act.

The report also claims that Natarajan would soon be called for questioning. She has been accused of criminal conspiracy and abuse of official position which falls under the Prevention of Corruption Act.

According to the CBI FIR, 55.79 hectares of forest land was given to the mining company for non-forestry purposes. This diversion though was incidentally opposed by her predecessor Jairam Ramesh and the FIR observed that the approval was given even though there were no changes of circumstances after the rejection.

Natarajan had quit from the ministry in December 2013 and the insinuated reason was that she would be focusing on party work for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections. Though it had also been suggested that she was removed over allegations of irregularities in the grant of clearances. Veerappa Moily, who succeeded her, reportedly found that nearly 350 files had been held back by her office. In 2014 Narendra Modi during the election campaign had infamously used the phrase “Jayanthi Tax” for alleging rent-seeking and corruption by the UPA government.

Natarajan had quit the Congress in 2015 after attacking party vice-president Rahul Gandhi. She in an explosive resignation letter had claimed that Rahul had made specific requests over the granting of clearances. She had also claimed that she was forced by the Congress to attack Narendra Modi over the alleged “Snoopgate” controversy. The letter sent to Sonia Gandhi had reportedly failed to elicit any response.

In light of the FIR against her, the Congress almost predictably has stayed silent, with only Manish Tewari voicing his opposition. This was a vivid contrast from the “act of political vendetta” line which the party has touted in the past when it came to the cases of Virbhadra Singh,  Bhupinder Singh Hooda and Karthi Chidambaram.

It might be argued that the reason for the silence is that Natarajan is no longer with the Congress. Even though that’s true, these CBI raids not just put her but also put the UPA government in the dock considering that the irregularities happened during its period.

Aam Aadmi Party worker tries to burn Haryana CM’s effigy, accidentally sets himself on fire

0

Following the brutal murder of the seven year old at Ryan International School, Gurugram, serious questions are raised over schools being safe spaces for children. Anger has erupted across India and rightly so.

However, never to be left behind to score a political brownie point, Aam Aadmi Party worker in Haryana decided to take matters in their own hands and do the most logical thing one can do to ensure speedy justice. He tried to burn the effigy of Haryana Chief Minister, M. L. Khattar.

However, things went wrong, as it usually does wherever Aam Aadmi Party is involved, and the said AAP worker accidentally set himself on fire while burning the effigy. The worker was eventually rescued and has got burns on the legs.

Oblivious to the fact that his own party worker got burnt while carrying out the act, Aam Aadmi Party leader Ashutosh shared the image on Twitter. However, once he realised, he deleted the tweet.

This is not the first time someone tried to burn an effigy and ended up accidentally setting himself on fire. In December, 2015, few Congress workers accidentally set themselves on fire while they were trying to burn the effigy of Prime Minister Modi.

An overly enthusiastic Congress worker had lit the matchstick even as petrol was being poured on the rag.

Back in 2016, an ABVP activist too accidentally set himself on fire while burning AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi’s effigy in Kanpur.

Thankfully, all the three people who set themselves on fire in each of the cases were rescued.

Large scale violence in Jaipur after Muslim man allegedly gets hit by a policeman

0

The city of Jaipur has been under a seize like situation after curfew was imposed in parts of the city since Friday.

This was a result of a reported full blown conflict between the police and residents of a Muslim-majority Ramganj area. The trouble reportedly started at 8:30 PM when a police constable (during a street vendor clearing drive) allegedly hit a man named Sajid who was travelling on a bike with his family.

According to his wife, they were stopped by the policeman who swung his baton and hit the bike. As a result Sajid was hit on his hand and their young daughter fell from the bike. This resulted in a heated exchange and the family which then reached the Ramganj police station.

According to the Police Commissioner Sanjay Agarwal, the policemen were talking to the couple about this minor scuffle when a crowd suddenly appeared outside the police station. They then started pelting stones and also indulged in arson. The police used tear gas shells and also fired shots in the air to somehow try and disperse the crowd.

In the violence about 4 policemen were injured and one of them was in serious condition. A youth named Mohammad Raees alias Adil passed away at 1 PM on that night and the Jamaat-e-Islami Hind claimed that it was a result of a bullet wound he suffered on his chest though the police made it clear that the cause could only be determined after a postmortem.

Reports also claimed that the protesters burnt an Ambulance, damaged a patrol vehicle and also looted shops. It was also claimed that the police would track the accused via CCTV footage.

In the light of the violence a curfew was imposed in the Manak Chowk, Subhash Chowk, Galta Gate and Ramganj police station areas and internet services were also suspended in the region. This curfew plus internet ban was also extended to Sunday after the Police Commissioner monitored the situation.

One of the reasons why the conflict doesn’t seem to have abated is the inability of the administration to have reached an agreement with the deceased Adil’s family.

The family of the deceased Adil had reportedly demanded a Rs 1 crore ex-gratia from the government and a government job for his relative. They had also demanded the suspension of the entire Ramganj police station staff. The family had also not allowed the postmortem of his body to take place and the police had made it clear that the curfew won’t be lifted until the postmortem has taken place.

The reports have claimed that the talks between Adil’s family and the policemen have remained inconclusive and that Muslim organisations are scheduled to hold a Dharna on Jawahar Lal Nehru Marg on Monday. According to a BJP State President Ashok Pranami, there’s a lack of a decision maker on the Muslims’ side. He also claimed that a demand by the family to have a Muslim doctor on the postmortem board had been accepted and also claimed that the situation was in control.

This bizarre demand to insist upon a Muslim doctor caught attention of a columnist:

Twist: Media spreads negative rumour about Modi, ‘positive’ rumour about Rahul Gandhi

Last week, media had reported that Uttar Pradesh had directed all schools to remain functioning on 17th September, Sunday, on occasion of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s birthday. Reports said that it was made mandatory for all students to attend the celebrations. It was reported that Anupama Jaiswal, Minister of state for basic education (independent charge) had said, all of UP’s 1.60 lakh primary government schools would remain open.

“MLAs who have adopted schools in their region will go there and promote PM Modi’s message of cleanliness as a part of the celebrations,” she added.

Reports added that the PM’s dream of “Swachh Bharat” could only be attained by helping create awareness about cleanliness among children. The reports added,

“This will be the best gift to the PM on his birthday. Sweets will also be distributed among the students. The motive behind MLAs adopting schools in their areas is to ensure community participation and an effective monitoring system.”

The reports also quoted BJP spokesperson Chandramohan saying how Modi’s birthday celebrations at school would be significant effort at promoting cleanliness and awareness among children.

However, the Uttar Pradesh Government has come out with a clarification that no such directive is issued.

The UP government has denied reports to keep the schools open on Sunday, 17th September, to celebrate PM Modi’s birthday.

However, as a government which is trying to move towards a Digital India, the clarification took over a day to come.

On the other hand, in an interesting twist, media had reported Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi would visit the US to talk about artificial intelligence. He was made a butt of all jokes for the same.

However, Overseas Congress Chairman Sam Pitroda, in a series of tweets clarified that Gandhi will not be speaking on artificial intelligence.

47 year old Gandhi will be attending Overseas Congress event in New York, and hold talk at University of California, Berkley.

Now, if only fact-checking was one of the criteria for reporting…

Muslim woman thrashed and thrown out by in-laws for painting Modi and Yogi

0

A Muslim woman in Ballia, Uttar Pradesh, who drew painting of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, was allegedly thrown out of her matrimonial house by her in-laws.

According to police, Nagma Parveen married Parvez Khan in November last year. Nagma’s father Shamsher Khan has alleged that although his son-in-law and his family members used to harass her for dowry, she tried to get along with them.

She drew portraits of Modi and Yogi and showed them to her husband, following which, her husband lost his cool and allegedly beat her up. Nagma had made the portraits following the Supreme Court verdict invalidating the instant triple talaq.

Nagma then informed her father, who tried to reason with her husband who alleged that she had gone mad for painting Modi and Yogi. Her in-laws also said that she put up paintings of Modi and Yogi in the house and hence she has no right to live in the house. They then reached out to police. Her father told the police that Nagma’s in-laws told him that his daughter was drawing pictures of Modi and Yogi and had no right to live with them.

On 20th July, Nagma had also filed a police complaint alleging harassment form her husband and in-laws for dowry.

This news, however, has not been covered by Hindustan Times Hate Tracker which we have already shown covers news in it as per a pre-set agenda. Seems like hate because of particular ideology doesn’t cut the ice with Hindustan Times.

Bengal: The Crumbling Cradle of Indian Renaissance

0

Civilisations rise and fall. Cultures vanish and value systems decay. But, rarely does one find as meteoric, suicidal a destruction as what the once great Bengal has seen. Even a casual student of modern Indian history would easily realise the crucial role Bengal played in formulating the foundation structure that formed the spiritual, and social basis for Indian Renaissance and many social reform movements.

It is not short of divine ordainment that the land could be blessed with people such as Ram Mohan Roy, Ishwar Chandra Vidyasagar, Bankim Chandra Chatterjee, Swami Vivekananda, Sri Aurobindo, Rabindranath Tagore, Shyamaprasad Mukherjee, Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose among many others.

Be it Politics, Sciences, Literature, Philosophy, Arts, Films or Industry – across the entire spectrum of all essential human endeavours, Bengal made exemplary strides.

But, today it breaks the hearts of all Indians to see the state of that very land.

In 1947 when Bengal, along with Punjab, was left bleeding from partition riots, the Indian flag was hoisted in New Delhi by PM Nehru. Millions of Hindu Bengalis fled the nascent fundamentalist, theological state of East Pakistan for India at the cost of all their worldly resources.

Unfortunately, seven decades later, successive ruling regimes in West Bengal have progressively led the state to a situation, may be even inadvertently, where the same forces that led to the partition in 1947 have not only resurfaced, but even flourished.

Of the seven decades of independence, after a satisfactory Congress administration under Dr BC Roy, 1977 proved to be a watershed year that marked the dawn of Red curse over Bengal.

That year, the Left Front swept polls in West Bengal. Little did Bengalis realise, that they had just set the universal communist wheels of regimented dismantling of religion, culture, civilisation and administration in motion. So ruthless was the process, that piggybacking on the otherwise sharp and eclectic Bengali intellect, Left infiltrated major strategic areas of the national life and subsequently wreaked havoc throughout the country while leaving Bengal in a state of perpetual stagnation.

For about three and half decades under the Left, the intellect, education, industry, and even life style of Bengalis was decimated. Instead of building on top of an immensity of academic achievements, the government deprived generations of Bengalis of English education at a time, when there was an unavoidable necessity of preparing people for the onset of impending globalisation. With a strong cadre-based political foundation, the Left conveniently rode on the eclectic Bengali past, manipulating and distorting it to lead the state to a point where mass poverty and perpetual struggle were glorified and drilled into the very core of Bengali psyche.

An obvious impact of such “red-washing” of West Bengal were two fold. Bengali youth, for centuries have embraced the rebel spirit. Be it the forward looking Brahmo Samaj, or the Hindu College students of Derozio – this free and uncompromising spirit had led to the rejection of many social & religious evils and thus, created environment conducive for Bengal to become the soul of Indian reformation movements. At the same time, this very spirit had also produced that unique modern Indian thought that resulted from the wedding of Indian traditions and scientific modernity of which Swami Vivekananda stood the tallest symbol.

This legendary free spirit, in its idealism embraced Communism as well, but in its naivety, and over zealousness suspected little of the destruction it could unleash. With the rise of trade unions, hartals, michils, bandhs and strikes, violent politics infiltrated even education and work culture deteriorated unimaginably. Disillusionment set in and increasingly bright Bengali youth fled the state in search of opportunities, thus creating a vacuum of skills resulting in a vicious cycle.

Unfortunately, such poisonous politics also facilitated the natural outcome of this vacuum – the unchecked illegal migration of Bangladeshi Muslims, the very same pre-independence electorate that sided with Jinnah and had India partitioned. For about 35 years, the process continued unchecked. The incumbent regimes were further motivated by the electoral benefits that accrued from this unholy alliance between the large scale illegal migrants and themselves.

It has been no secret that the people of West Bengal have been victims of this process for long. By estimates today a sizeable part of 2 crore illegal Bangladeshis, who may be fundamentally opposed to the very idea of India live and thrive here.

This phenomenon hasn’t been a secret. But, in the interest of ‘secularism’ that was both politically correct and convenient, people, even many intellectuals amongst Bengalis chose to overlook, preferring to bask in the egotistical glory of their eclectic past. But, the tangible effects of this demographic change were bound to manifest – it was only a matter of time.

Sadly, today it has. West Bengal – that small elongated stretch of land that was extracted from the designs of Jinnah and the Muslim League by excruciatingly painful efforts of Shyamaprasad Mukherjee, and other crusaders – stands dangerously close to where she stood in 1947.

But, unfortunately, today it is heart wrenching to witness communal incidents like Kaliachak, Basirhat, Dhulagarh and probably many others that aren’t even reported. The latest onslaught being even restrictions on Ma Durga’s Idol immersion – something that was unimaginable a few years ago.

Now the land of Bengal which produced greats like Tagore and Vivekananda, is today at the risk of being laid to waste by appeasement politics and Islamic extremists.

It is high time for responsible political parties of India to discard political correctness and come together to bring the truth to the forefront and reverse the four decades of destruction. Time is of essence, lest the cradle of Indian renaissance be lost forever.

Mamata govt asks its colleges to ignore the telecast of PM Modi’s Vivekananda anniversary speech

0

In another case of the Mamata government locking horns with the Modi government, it has reportedly conveyed to all the colleges under it that they can ignore the University Grants Commission (UGC)’s directive to live telecast PM Modi’s speech on 11th September.

The PM would be giving this speech on the 125th anniversary of Swami Vivekananda’s address to the World Parliament of Religions in Chicago.

According to reports, the state Education Minister Partha Chatterjee in a press conference on Friday stated that the Modi government cannot give such a directive without informing or reaching an agreement with the state government. He called the directive unacceptable by alleging that it was a clear attempt to saffronise the education.

According to him, the state colleges and Universities were surprised at by the UGC circular and approached the state government. He then reportedly told them that there was no need to adhere to the given directive. This given circular covers about 40,000 of the nation’s educational institutes.

Just recently the Mamata government had also ignored another such directive. Just before the last Independence Day it was reported that the Mamata Government had ordered the schools to ignore a Central government circular which had prescribed a fixed format to be followed for the Independence Day celebrations. The schools were instead asked to carry out regular celebrations. Even then, state education Minister Partha Chatterjee had commented on the matter by stating that, the feeling of patriotism cannot be forced down someone.

The HRD Ministry had also reportedly written to the states on 7th August to create a “patriotic mood” by holding events between August 9 and 30. This circular was reportedly aimed at building a “mass fervour” around the PM’s New India Mission. This was also rejected.

The Mamata government had also protested against the Centre’s developmental policies in the past. We had reported how West Bengal was the only state which hadn’t participated in Modi government’s cleanliness survey and was also renaming the Center’s flagship schemes because the latter was revising the expense sharing percentages.

Rahul Gandhi to be sent on worldwide study tours for learning new technologies and ideas

0

The Congress Party which is planning to project Rahul Gandhi as its Prime Ministerial candidate in 2019 has now reportedly decided to expose him to new technologies and Ideas. In order to do that, the party has decided to send him on as many foreign study tours as they can so that he would be able to bring in “new thought”.

According to Congress leader CP Joshi, Rahul Gandhi wants to bring in new ideas and thinking to the country. Thus these study tours are designed to benefit him, the Congress party and also the Nation. He further stated that with an exposure to this new technology, he would be able to influence new policy. According to Joshi, a well informed leader would think about development first.

These study tours of Rahul have reportedly already begun. In August Rahul had left for a trip to Oslo, Norway at the invitation of the Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs. There he was going to exchange ideas with political, business leaders and research institutions. He was accompanied on this trip by Ghulam Nabi Azad the Leader of Opposition in Rajya Sabha.

Even as the event of Rahul in Norway was still fresh in people’s mind, he and his team upped the ante by announcing that he would next be travelling to the Silicon Valley in the US to expand his thoughts about Artificial Intelligence. According to the report Rahul wants India to lead in this area. According to a Congress leader, the main idea reportedly was that the knowledge should be brought back and implemented at the policy level in the Congress party’s vision document.

Various reports also suggested that Rahul Gandhi may even speak on the subject of Artificial Intelligence but it has since emerged that he would be addressing a conference at Berkley on 11th September on the subject of, “India At 70: Reflections On The Path Forward”.

Now Ravish Kumar slams the leftists for spreading fake news about him

0

Ravish Kumar, the controversial NDTV journalist is no stranger to Fake News, considering he himself has in the past been accused of spreading it. We had reported as to how he in a blog had lied about what he had asked Kiran Bedi in an interview. Later he had also reportedly mislead his audiences by hiding the Congress background of a trader in a possible bid to attack demonetisation.

Now it seems that the tables have somewhat turned and Ravish Kumar himself has become a victim of Fake News. This news though wasn’t spread by his so called “Right Wing” critics and was actually carried by a leftist youtube channel.

In a Facebook post written by Ravish, he claimed that a statement defaming the Prime Minister was wrongly attributed to him. The statement claimed that, he (Ravish Kumar) was sad that a Thug like Modi is the Nation’s Prime Minister. He also affixed screenshots of the sources which had carried this alleged statement and one of it was a video carried by a certain Krantikari Indian Youtube Channel:

[youtube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j1N8pB0U7lo?rel=0]

Going through the Krantikaari Indian’s videos it becomes clear that almost all their videos attacker either Modi, BJP or the RSS. Hence this video particular video too was most probably designed to do the same. This video went viral and currently has about 737,000 views and was also shared by Congress leader Digvijaya Singh:

The video in question simply carries a speech Ravish Kumar gave at the Press Club of India after the Murder of Gauri Lankesh. In the speech he is chiefly seen attacking Modi for following a Twitter user who used a derogatory word against Gauri Lankesh after her death. In the video Ravish also used a lot of unsubstantiated rhetoric to further his agenda.

The Youtube video though as claimed by Ravish had no such statement by him calling the PM a gunda. Even though Ravish had used that particular word (at 9:02), it looked to be in a reference to pro BJP panellists in Primetime News Debates and not the Prime Minister. In the explanatory post Ravish Kumar also claimed that this fake news was an attempt to defame him.

Soon after Ravish’s explanation, Digvijaya Singh too said sorry to him for his tweet:

This whole episode is ironic considering the fact that even though Ravish Kumar regularly speaks about Fake News carried by the so called Right Wing news websites, but this may be the 1st time he has broken his silence about Fake News spread by the left, now that it was he who was at the receiving end of it.

Journalists slam Shehla Rashid for bullying Republic TV journalist

0

JNU student Shehla Rashid, who also doubles up as freelance protestor in her free time, “showed Republic TV their place” and “threw them out” at a protest meet held after journalist Gauri Lankesh’s murder.

Shehla, who also champions freedom of press when she could take time out of her protesting assignments, was outside Press Club where she thrashed a journalist for covering the meet on Lankesh’s murder. Here it is important to note that Shehla is neither a journalist nor a representative of the Press Club to ask a journalist to leave the premises.

Initially, she was hailed for her ‘bravery’ by the media persons.

However, the journalists started calling her out on her behaviour. Even the left, left-liberal ones, who don’t particularly agree to Republic TV’s way of working.

Some even tried to defend Shehla’s stunt by saying how it is her prerogative who she wants to talk to

However, more and more support poured in from the media fraternity for Republic TV journalist, who was just doing his job of reporting an event.

Shehla then tried to defend her bullying a reporter by saying how Republic TV is a “platform for bullying”

Irony just became a PhD research scholar to waste tax payers’ money for a couple of more decades.
