‘Unsocial, loose character’: TMC MLA Hamidul Rehman justifies Taliban-style public flogging of woman in ‘Muslim Rashtra’ within West Bengal

Hours after a Bahubali leader Tajemul was seen publicly flogging a woman in Chopra in Uttar Dinajpur district of West Bengal, Trinamool Congress (TMC) MLA Hamidul Rehman on Sunday (30th June) justified the Taliban-style punishment in what he dubbed as ‘Muslim Rashtra’.

While speaking to the media, the TMC legislator claimed, “The woman has not complained but you guys (media persons) are still raking it up continuously.”

Rehman alleged, “The woman was doing unsocial work in the absence of her husband. A meeting was held by the villagers over her activities and a collective decision was made.”

“Yes. They have done wrong to a certain extent. We accept it. We are looking into the matter. The woman or her husband has not complained in the matter. She was not forced against her will,” the TMC MLa downplayed the attack.

He further justified, “The woman was spoiling the society and hence the villagers took action. What they have done is a bit too much and we are disappointed. We are now taking steps such that these incidents are not repeated again.”

On being asked whether the accused JCB is a member of TMC, Hamidul Rehman remarked, “Why JCB alone? We got a lead of more than 1 lakh votes in Chopra. Hence, everyone there is our supporter. There is no harm.”

Hamidul Rehman resorts to character assassination of victim woman

“We are all accepting that the villaers have done wrong. The woman has also done wrong. She had deserted her husband and children and turned out to be a loose character,” he resorted to the character assassination of the victim.

Hamidul Rehman went on to claim that Chopra, where the incident took place, constitutes ‘Muslim Rashtra’. He was heard saying, “In our Muslim rashtra, there are certain rules of conduct and punishment.”

“But it had become little extreme this time. That is why we are now reprimanding the villagers.” the TMC MLA concluded.

TMC MLA intimidates voters ahead of elections

In April this year, Hamidul Rehman stirred the hornet’s nest by threatening people against voting for the BJP. The incident took place during a public meeting in Majhiali village in Uttar Dinajpur district of the State.

During the event, Rehman was heard saying, “The central paramilitary force will be here till the 26th. After that, you will have to live with our force (referring to TMC goons).”

“Don’t dare to waste your vote and commit mischief. The central force will leave on 26th and you will be left here with our forces,” the TMC MP from the Chopra constituency was heard saying.

He further threatened, “At that time, do not complain about the tragedy that will befall your fate.” Hamidul Rehman subtly reminded voters about the TMC’s Khela of violence during the 2021 Vidhan Sabha elections and the 2023 Panchayat polls.

Earlier in March 2021, he referred to supporters of the BJP as ‘namakharam’ and announced that they would be dealt stricktly after the elections.

“Our ancestors have said don’t betray those who feed you…After polls, we will have to meet those who would cheat us. Khela Hobe (the game of violence will be played) with dishonest people. We want Didi (referring it) to be the CM”.

Following the controversy, the BJP had filed a complaint with the Election Commission of india.

Uttarakhand: Amjad poses as Hindu to trap a Hindu girl, coaxes her to steal jewellery and cash and elope with him, FIR filed on the girl’s mother’s complaint

A Hindu woman has filed a complaint with Dehradun Police stating that an accused named Amjad trapped her daughter in his influence by posing as a Hindu. It is alleged that he then coaxed the girl to steal money and jewellery from her house and run away with him. Moreover, some Bajrang Dal workers were allegedly attacked when the organisation took up the matter.

Her mother has filed a complaint in this matter at the Vikas Nagar police station accusing Amjad of coaxing her daughter to elope. A lawyer named Raisuddin Siddiqui who is accused of assisting Amjad in his acts has also been named in the FIR. It is alleged that the lawyer wrongfully arranges court marriages for accused persons in Love Jihad cases and he has been recently released from jail in one such wrongful court marriage case.

The incident pertains to the Pachhua area in Dehradun. According to the Police, the complainant Mrs. Kalpana (fictitious name) is a resident of village Shahpur, Kalyanpur police station which falls in Vikasnagar district, Dehradun. In her complaint, she has accused Amjad of deceivingly trapping her daughter Nayana (fictitious name) and coaxing her to elope. It is also alleged that gold jewelery and Rs 65,000 were stolen from the complainant’s house.

According to reports, the involvement of a Muslim advocate named Raisuddin Siddiqui in this case has also come to light.

In her complaint, the girl’s mother stated that the accused Amjad had earlier trapped her daughter by posing as a Hindu. After that, he made her run away with him. Based on the complaint, the police have registered a case under sections 365, 380, and 120B of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). The accused named in the FIR include Amjad son of Yusuf resident of Sahaspur and Advocate Raisuddin Siddiqui.

SSP Ajay Singh stated that the police have received a complaint which is being investigated. A police team has been formed to recover the girl.

Meanwhile, a video is doing rounds on social media in which a Bajrang Dal activist is seen making serious allegations against the accused lawyer Siddiqui. While the veracity and date of the video are yet to be ascertained, it seemingly pertains to the accused lawyer in question who has been named in the FIR along with Amjad by the girl’s mother.

In the video, it is also alleged that some armed miscreants attacked Bajrang Dal activists when they were en route to the accused Siddiqui’s house to confront him.

According to the Bajrang Dal activist, recently the accused lawyer Siddiqui wrongfully arranged for the court marriage of a girl for which he was sent behind bars. Even after coming out of jail, he is arranging court marriages in Love Jihad cases.

He said, “Our complaint is that the lawyer even after going to jail is indulging in the same acts then how can we have faith in the administration for our safety..We will have to come forward to safeguard the honours of our sisters and daughters.”

Yesterday, we received information that 6 months earlier the girl was trapped in Love Jihad but back then she was a minor. He added that now with the help of the accused lawyer Siddiqui, the accused is trying to get a court marriage for which they may even have approached the High Court.

“His arrest is our main demand because till the time such lawyers are not put behind bars, love jihad cases in Uttarakhand will not stop,” he further asserted.

He added that they receive funding from Islamic countries but the police administration puts pressure on Hindu organisations to stifle them which will not be tolerated.

Regarding the attack on Bajrang Dal members, he recounted, “When we were going to see Siddiqui, at that time armed individuals launched attacks on us, you can see bleeding had not stopped even after 4 hours. Even after being in the majority, We are no longer safe from minority community.”

Amritpal Singh’s aide in jail Daljit Singh Kalsi to contest by-polls from Dera Baba Nanak in Punjab, third Khalistani in Dibrugarh jail to announce contesting polls

The victory of Amritpal Singh and Sarabjeet Singh Khalsa in the Lok Sabha elections seems to have motivated other Khalistani activists also to contest elections. After two aides of Amritpal Singh lodged in Dibrugarh Jail in Assam announced that they will be contesting the upcoming assembly by-elections in Punjab, a third aide also from the same jail has made a similar announcement.

The wife of Amritpal Singh’s aide Daljit Singh Kalsi today announced that her son will be contesting the by-poll from Dera Baba Nanak assembly constituency. Neeru Kalsi said that she met her husband Daljit Singh Kalsi in the jail in Dibrugarh, and he decided to contest the assembly elections. In a video message, she appealed to the people to support her husband.

She said, “I yesterday met Kalsi at the Dibrugarh Jail he is fine and I wanted to give his message to all of you that he has decided to fight the assembly by-polls from Dera Baba Nanak as it is his maternal parents village. We want your cooperation.’’ She said that she will soon hold a press conference to announce the details.

The Dera Baba Nanak assembly seal became vacant after Congress MLA Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa became an MP by winning from the Gurdaspur parliamentary constituency.

This announcement came just hours after it was reported that Bhagwant Singh ‘Pradhan Mantri’ Bajeke and Kulwant Singh Raoke, Amritpal Singh’s associate currently in Dibrugarh jail, will be contesting the by-elections from Punjab. Bhagwant Singh Bajeke will be contesting from Gidderbaha while Kulwant Singh Raoke will contest from the Barnala constituency.

Kulwant Singh’s cousin Maha Singh said today that he talked to Kulwant who expressed a desire to contest Assembly Elections by-polls. A few days ago, a boy named Akashdeep Singh claiming to be the son of Bhagwant Singh Bajeke released a video on social media that Bajeke will contest Assembly by-Elections from Gidderbaha.

By-elections for five assembly constituencies will be held as the MLAs of those seats have won Lok Sabha elections. Barnala’s AAP MPA Gurmeet Singh Meet Hayer won from Sangrur Lok Sabha seat, and Punjab Congress president Amarinder Singh Raja Warring who was MLA from Gidderbaha became MP from Ludhiana. As mentioned above, Dera Baba Nanak MLA Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa is now MP from Gurdaspur.

Chabbewal assembly seat is vacant after Raj Kumar Chabbewal became MP from Hoshiarpur, and the Jalandhar West assembly seat fell vacant after its MLA Sheetal Angural resigned after switching from AAP to BJP. It is to be seen if more aides of Amritpal announce contesting polls from these two seats.

As the Punjab Assembly Speaker has announced these seats vacant, the Election Commission has to schedule by-polls within the next six months.

Just like Amritpal Singh and Sarabjeet Singh Khalsa, all three will contest the by-elections as independents. Notably, recently the Punjab govt extended the NSA applied on them for one more year, which mean they will remain in jail for another year, unless they are able to secure bail.

It is alleged that the accused also issued death threats to the victim and stated that he would cut her along with her parents in pieces and throw them away. Incidentally, he has been booked in the past as well and has many cases registered against him including under the Gangster Act.

The victim who hails from the Dalit community lodged a complaint in the Bahariabad police station area of Ghazipur on Wednesday (26th June 2024).

On Friday (28th June 2024) morning, an informer tipped the Police about his presence near Saidpur Highway. Consequently, the police immediately rushed there and arrested the accused.

When the criminal record of Shamim Ahmed’s 25-year-old son Armaan was searched, it was revealed that six criminal cases were already registered against him. These cases include robbery, fraud, a threat to kill, attempt to murder, the Gangster Act, theft, and illegal possession of weapons. Police are currently investigating the matter and other legal action is underway.

Falcon 9 rocket copy Tianlong-3 being developed by Chinese aerospace company escapes from test pad during static-fire test, crashes and explodes

A rocket being developed by Chinese aerospace company Space Pioneer, also known as Beijing Tianbing Technology Co. Ltd, took off unintentionally during a test firing and then crashed causing a massive explosion. The incident took place at the company’s test facility in Gongyi country, Henan province, on 20 June. However, the rocket fell on a hillside and nobody was hit.

Space Pioneer was test-firing a stage of the Tianlong-3 rocket which ended in a catastrophic failure and a dramatic explosion. The company said that it was intended to be a static-fire test of the first stage of its Tianlong-3 launch vehicle at its test facility in Henan. During this test, clamps and other structures are used to hold the rocket stage in place while test-firing the rocket engine.

The test was conducted to test the power of the first stage of the Tianlong-3 vehicle. The test started at 3.43 PM on Sunday, and the engines were fired according to the plan. The first-stage rocket ignited normally, and the engine thrust reached 820 tons after some time. But then, the rocket got detached from the holding structure due to a structural failure at the connection between the rocket body and the test bench, and the engine blasted off.

The nine-engine first stage of the rocket took off like a normal rocket launch and reached some height. But after some time, the engines shut down, causing the rocket to halt, tilt, and fall to the ground. As the rocket was filled with kerosene-liquid oxygen propellant, most of which remained unused, it triggered a spectacular explosion when the rocket stage hit the ground.

The company said in a statement that the onboard computer automatically shut down after the unintentional liftoff.

The stage landed in a mountainous area about 1.5 kilometres from the launch site and broke apart on impact. Space Pioneer later said that no casualties were reported due to the incident. The villagers in the remote area were already evacuated before the test.

The company said that it was the most challenging test on the propulsion system in the development of the rocket, which aims the double the engine thrust compared to existing Chinese rockets. Tianlong-3 is benchmarked against the SpaceX Falcon 9, and the tests are being done ahead of its orbital launch.

The company’s statement said that the test involved the simultaneous ignition of all nine Tianhuo-12 engines in the first stage. They said that it is the most powerful power system test of any carrier rocket currently under development in the country, and is three times more powerful than any previous test of the largest thrust in China’s aerospace industry.

Tianlong-3 is a large two-stage kerolox medium-lift orbital launch vehicle with a reusable first stage made by Tianbing Technology. It is intended to cater to the market of low-cost space launches, like the launch of the country’s satellite Internet constellation and to run supply missions to Tiangong Space Station. It has a diameter of 3.8 meters, a take-off mass of 590 tons, a low-Earth orbit (LEO) capacity of 17 tons, and a sun-synchronous orbit (SSO) capacity of 14 tons to 500 km. These capacities are comparable to Falcon 9 of SpaceX.

Moreover, just like Falcon 9, the first stage of Tianlong-3 is designed to vertically land after a launch, which can be reused. For these reasons, the rocket is dubbed a copy or clone of Falcon 9.

The company added that it will investigate the causes of the failure, and organise the production and testing of new products.

Pakistan: Suhail and his sons seal niece and sister-in-law in room by building a brick wall over a property dispute, victims rescued after 28 hours

A distressing incident has come to light from Pakistan where a man bricked his niece and sister-in-law in a wall over a property dispute. Acting on a tip-off from a concerned neighbour, the Police rescued the victims after nearly 28 hours of confinement without food and water. According to reports, the accused identified as Suhail with the help of his wife and sons, trapped the victims inside a room and sealed the only door outside their portion.

The accused allegedly intended to starve them to death. For this, they built a floor-to-ceiling brick wall outside the locked door, so that even if the mother-daughter duo manage to break open the door, they remain trapped in the room. So far, two individuals have been taken into custody in this matter. The police are actively conducting raids to apprehend the accused who fled after committing the crime.

The incident took place in the Latifabad No. 5 area in the Hyderabad area of Pakistan where the victims were imprisoned in a room and a wall was later built outside their only gate to prevent their escape.

According to officials, the victims were rescued after 28 hours of confinement without food and water. Police stated that the woman and her brother-in-law were involved in a property dispute. In a fit of rage, the brother-in-law and his children sealed the room by building a wall.

The police stated that after a heated argument over the ownership of the property, Suhail and his sons locked his niece and sister-in-law in a room and built a wall outside the door to prevent them from escaping. They even got the wall plastered.

According to the Police, they were acting on a tip-off received from a concerned neighbour. After reaching there, they broke down the wall and rescued the victims 28 hours after they were buried alive behind the wall. The victims have been identified as widow Tasleem Jahan and her 14-year-old daughter Dua.

Meanwhile, based on the victim’s complaint, Police registered a case against three individuals, including the woman’s brother-in-law, his wife, and another relative. They have been booked under charges of illegal occupation of the house, unlawful confinement, and issuing threats of dire consequences.

The victim woman said, “We were left without water, electricity, and gas. My brother-in-law has been making us live in constant fear and deprivation.” She also accused Suhail of ongoing harassment. She claimed that he possessed crucial documents related to their house.

Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Dr. Farrukh Linjar stated that the accused who bricked the mother and daughter into a wall will be arrested soon.

In her complaint, Tasleem Jahan stated that the house comprises three portions but it has been the subject of contention. She lives in one part with her daughter, while her late husband’s brother, who possesses the property documents, occupies another portion. The accused, Suhail, along with his accomplices, had been harassing them for control over the entire property.

Tamil Nadu: NIA conducts searches at several locations in connection with terrorist outfit Hizb-ut-Tahrir, arrest Abdul Rehman and Mujibur Rehman for indoctrinating youths

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) on 30th June conducted multiple raids across Tamil Nadu including Chennai, Tiruchy and Erode among others in connection with their investigation into a banned ISIS-affiliated terrorist organisation, Hizb-ut-Tahrir (HuT). The agency arrested two terrorists identified as Abdul Rehman also known as Abdul Rahman and Mujibur Rehman alias Mujibur Rahman Altham Sahib on charges of holding classes to indoctrinate young people in radical beliefs and to portray democracy, the constitution, the legal system and the judiciary as anti-Islamic.

The trainees were instructed to transform India from Darul Kufr (Land of Non-believers) to Darul Islam (House/abode of Islam). The agency recovered digital devices (cell phones, laptops, SIM cards, memory cards) and various incriminating documents, including printouts and books with the ideologies of Hizb-ut-Tahrir, Khilafa, Islamic State and the envisaged Khilafa administration and its financial systems from them.

An official press release read, “The National Investigation Agency (NIA) on Sunday arrested two persons after extensive searches at 10 locations in five districts of Tamil Nadu in the Hizb-ut-Tahrir case. The arrested accused are members of Hizb-ut-Tahrir, an international pan-Islamist and fundamentalist organisation which is working to re-establish an Islamic caliphate and enforce the constitution written by Hizb-ut-Tahrir’s founder Taqi al-Din al-Nabhani.”

It further added, “They have been identified as Abdul Rehman @ Abdul Rahman and Mujibur Rehman @ Mujibur Rahman Altham Sahib, both from Thanjavur District. NIA investigations revealed that they were involved in conducting secret classes to radicalize youth in extremist ideologies, promoting democracy and the Indian Constitution, law and judiciary etc as anti-Islamic.”

The notification informed, “The trainees were taught that India was now Darul Kufr (Land of Non-believers) and it was their duty to transform it into Darul Islam by establishing an Islamic state in India by waging violent jihad. Today’s searches led to the seizure of digital devices (mobile phones, Laptop, SIM cards and memory cards) and several incriminating documents, including books and printouts containing the ideology of Hizb-ut-Tahrir, Khilafa, Islamic State and proposed Khilafa Government and its funding structures etc. Investigations in the case RC-01/2024/NIA/CHE are continuing.”

The case was filed against the culprit for sharing derogatory content on Facebook, according to the Thideernagar Police Station in Madurai. Afterwards, it was transferred to the NIA, which re-registered it on 15th April to conduct a thorough investigation into the situation. A search was carried out at Kabir Ahmed’s Mudichur house in Chennai. A police source stated that the search started at five in the morning and went on for more than two hours. Furthermore, searches were executed in Tiruchy, Kumbakonam, two locations in Erode and other areas. The venues targeted by the authorities were believed to be associated with the Hizb-ut-Tahrir group. Six individuals were detained in Chennai last month on suspicion of having ties to the outfit and were charged under the stringent Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act.

In 2021, after conducting searches at several locations in Tamil Nadu, the NIA made an arrest related to the Madurai Hizb-ut-Tahrir case. Mohammed Iqbal, the person who was apprehended, posted offensive things on his Facebook account “Thoonga Vizhigal Rendu is in Kazimar Street” to make fun of a certain religion and fostered communal disharmony, disturbing law and order. The case was first brought in Madurai under several counts of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and section 13(1)(b) of the UAPA Act.

A supplemental charge sheet was filed by the NIA in March 2022 against two accused named Ziyavudeen Baqavi, a resident of Kumbakonam in Thanjavur district and Bava Bahrudeen, also known as Mannai Bava from Mannargudi in Tiruvarur district. The investigation showed that they were HuT members and were involved in radicalizing and enlisting naive youth to create an Islamic State and impose a draft constitution penned by HuT founder and radical Islamic preacher Taqi al-Din al-Nabhani.

It was reported that Bava Bahrudeen and Ziyavudeen Baqavi were arranging gatherings to enlist new members and holding secret classes to radicalize, indoctrinate and incite youths to strive toward the creation of an Islamic State by toppling the Indian government. Moreover, they planned to use social media sites like Facebook and YouTube to create new cells in other regions of Kerala and Tamil Nadu to propagate HuT’s ideology.
