‘Myanmar nationals have outnumbered locals’: Tribe in Manipur raises alarm over illegal settlements, Assam Rifles clarifies

On Saturday (22nd June), the Maring Students’ Union (MSU) released a press note, saying that refugees from Myanmar have outnumbered the local population in the Tengnoupal district of Manipur.

MSU, representing the Maring tribe, pointed out that it has collected the biometrics of 1428 Myanmar nationals, who fled the country amid the ongoing fight between the army junta and pro-democracy forces.

They have taken refuge in 6 Maring Naga villages, namely, Saibol, Moirengthel, Chanringphai, Lamlong Khunou, Choktong, and Satang. According to MSU, the population of Myanmar nationals is now higher than that of the local Maring Naga tribe.

The Maring Students’ Union has also claimed that the Myanmar refugees have been illegally building houses in the villages without permission from the State authorities.

The Assam Rifles, a central paramilitary force responsible for border security in the area, has refuted claims of illegal settlements.

In a statement, it said, “In the said area, extending from BP 82 to 89, some refugees have indeed taken shelter due to warlike situation in Myanmar, however they are immediately repatriated as the security situation improves across the IMB. The accommodation arrangements for the refugees comprise of self-help, bare essential thatched huts with polythene covers”

It further added, “The State Administration is fully aware of the presence of refugees in the area and have also collected the biometric data of the refugees. Proper coordination in terms of security exists between the Security Forces and the State Administration.”

“Security Forces maintain a vigilant presence and are actively managing the border area to prevent any unlawful activities,” it concluded.

YouTuber Armaan Malik and his 2 wives on BigBoss OTT: Actress Devoleena calls for uniform marriage laws, calls polygamy ‘filth’

Devoleena Bhattacharjee is well-known for using social media to express her opinions about politics, society, and the entertainment industry. The popular actor had reacted in strong words against Bigg Boss OTT 3 for platforming contestant Armaan Malik and his two wives. She chastised the trio for using national television to promote ‘polygamy.’

Devoleena Bhattacharjee posted a lengthy critique of Armaan Malik and his two wives, Payal and Kritika, on X (previously known as Twitter). She was further shocked to learn that the audience loved and found their ‘love stories’ engaging.

Calling polygamy a filth, she wrote, “Bigg Boss, what has happened to you? Kya itne bure din chal rahe hai apke that you find polygamy entertaining? What were you thinking when you introduced such contestants? This show is watched by people from children to the elderly. What do you want to teach the new generation? That they can have 2-3-4 marriages? Can everyone live happily together? Go and ask those who suffer from such incidents every day, living their lives in misery.”

The actress further called for the Special Marriage Act and UCC (Uniform Civil Code) to be made mandatory and said that only by the introduction of such laws can society stay away from the ‘filth’ of polygamy. She also stated that the arrival of the Malik trio on the show was pursued as entertainment, when in fact it was not.

“This is not entertainment, it’s filth. Don’t make the mistake of taking this lightly because it’s not just a reel, it’s real. I mean, I can’t even understand how anyone can call this shamelessness entertainment. I feel disgusted just hearing about it. Gross. I mean, in just 6/7 days love happened, marriage happened, and then the same thing with the wife’s best friend. This is beyond my imagination,” she stated on X.

“This is why the Special Marriage Act and UCC (Uniform Civil Code) should be mandatory. So that the law is the same for everyone and society can be free from such filth. A second wife while having a first wife. Imagine if, in the name of equality, wives started having 2-2 husbands, would you still be entertained?” she added.

The actress also said that the thought of having multiple marriages sounded cringe and that the TV industry was not doing the right thing by promoting such relations to the newer generation. “Don’t spread this filthy mindset to the world. As a society, we are only heading towards destruction. Truly people have gone mad,” she mentioned.

Earlier, she wrote a sarcastic post directed at Bigg Boss OTT 3 contestant Chandrika Dixit aka Vada Paav girl. “People asked me- What do you have to do to get into Bigg Boss? Where do you have to give the audition?’ Answer: Well, in our time, it wasn’t like this. Times have changed. Feelings have changed. Considering the current situation, I am certain that if you shout continuously on the streets for one month, get into arguments, and slap a couple of people, you will end up at the police station, which will boost your publicity. After that, make yourself go viral. There are many platforms available these days. Call bloggers to make a video about you,” she said in one of her Instagram stories criticizing Dixit.

The actor has previously been part of the BigBoss show in seasons 13, 14 and 15.

Bigg Boss OTT 3, hosted by Anil Kapoor premiered on June 22nd enthralling audiences with a potential array of participants. Among them is Armaan Malik, a popular YouTuber known for his channel, Malik Vlogs, which attracts 7.67 million subscribers. Armaan Malik brings not only his internet reputation but also a unique familial dynamic to the reality show.

Armaan made headlines for his unconventional marriage to two women, Payal Malik and Kritika Malik. After marrying Payal in 2011 and welcoming their son, Chirayu Malik, the family experienced difficulty when Armaan married Kritika, Payal’s best friend, in 2018. This decision created a split, resulting in separation, although Payal finally reconciled with Armaan and welcomed Kritika into their family. Their unique partnership received additional attention when Armaan announced that both women were expecting in 2022, bringing their family to four children- Chirayu, Tuba, Ayan, and Zaid.

Jodhpur violence: Police recover two trolleys of stones on rooftops in riot-hit area, FIR against 65, 51 arrested so far

On the 21st of June, violence erupted in Rajasthan’s Jodhpur after Hindus protested against attempts by Islamists to open a gate at an Eidgah opposite a Hanuman Mandir. In the violence orchestrated by Islamists, several shops and vehicles were vandalised. During the stone pelting in the Sursagar area, several locals and police officials were injured. After the police arrived and dispersed the mob, they regrouped and started stone pelting.

It has now emerged that it was allegedly a planned attack. On Sunday, Jodhpur Police conducted a search operation in the affected area and recovered two trolleys of stones from the roofs of five houses. The Police have registered an FIR in the matter against 65 people. So far, the police have arrested 51 accused.

After the arrests, several women protested outside the police station claiming that the arrested individuals were not involved in stone pelting.

The police are monitoring the violence-hit area with drone cameras. Meanwhile, Section 144 has been imposed in five police station areas Pratap Nagar, Pratap Nagar Sadar, Devnagar, Rajiv Gandhi Nagar and Soorsagar in Jodhpur after stones were pelted by the mob and DCP West issued the order.

ADCP West Nishant Bhardwaj stated that two police officers were injured during the heavy stone pelting on Friday (21st June) night, while a woman lost her eyesight after being hit by a stone. The police then searched the houses and recovered two trolleys of stones.

Background of the Incident in Jodhpur

The violence erupted from a longstanding dispute between Hindu and Muslim communities over a gate being constructed at Eidgah near Rajaram Circle in Sursagar. The new gate is being opposed by the Hindu community as it’s in proximity to the Hanuman Temple. The construction of the gate sparked similar controversy 15 years ago and the project was halted.

On the evening of 21st June, one faction broke the previous agreement and resumed construction of the gate. When Hindus learned about it they gathered and staged protests. The two communities sat together and concluded that the gate would not be constructed. However, radicals in the Muslim community insisted that they would open the gate at any cost.

The arguments between the two communitles led to the clashing late at night. Stones were pelted for over two hours during the violence. One shop and tractor were burnt. A jeep was damaged. A Hindu woman identified as Lajwanti Gehlot was hit by a stone during the violence when she tried to fetch her grandson from the outside amidst the clash. She sustained an injury to her eye and was rushed to the hospital where the doctor informed her that she had lost vision in the injured eye. The authorities are monitoring the situation closely and have ensured that the law and order situation is under control.

Through a post on Instagram on Sunday (23rd June), she expressed gratitude to the Gujarat Police and Gujarat government for their prompt action. She added that the Vadodara crime branch gave her police action even though she had not applied for it.

The Vadodara-based fashion designer and influencer, Makwana uploaded a video message on her Instagram account. In the video, she said, “I have just received Police protection from the Vadodara crime branch and I didn’t even apply for it. So, I feel really overwhelmed. Gratitude to Vadodara Police and Gujarat Police for taking such quick prompt action and for all those worried about me, please don’t be, I am safe. Thank you to the government of Gujarat for giving me the protection. Thank you, Jai Hind, and Har Har Mahadev.”

Pertinently, after the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) filed a police complaint against her for performing Yoga inside the Sri Darbar Sahib premises on International Yoga Day, Archana Makwana has been receiving death and rape threats. in her Instagram status, Makwana has shared several threatening messages which she had been receiving on social media and messaging platforms.

(Archana Makwana shared some of the threatening messages she has been receiving post the Yoga row controversy at the Golden temple premises)

One person wished that the Nirbhaya rape and murder incident happened to her so that she had died long ago. Notably, the woman is receiving such threats even though she promptly apologised after SGPC accused her of hurting Sikh sentiments by doing Yoga in Darbar Sahib.

Another person asked her to be thankful that she is still alive after the crime of performing yoga in Darbar Sahib, else someone would have killed her by now.

Archana Makwana also received several audio messages with death threats, as shared by her in a earlier Instagram status.

The development came after the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) filed a complaint against her for performing Yoga inside the Sri Darbar Sahib premises, popularly known as Golden Temple, in Amritsar. The step was taken after visuals of the Instagram influencer performing Yoga in Sri Darbar Sahib Prakrama on International Yoga Day on 21st June appeared on social media.

Additionally, the SGPC also ordered action against three employees of Prakrama for allegedly not performing their duties diligently.

Shiromani Committee President Harjinder Singh Dhami said that ‘no one can be allowed to act against Guru Mati at Sachkhand Sri Harmandir Sahib, but some people deliberately ignore the sanctity and historical importance of this holy place and commit heinous acts.’

Dhami said she performed yoga and left the temple without offering prayers. He added that Sikh sentiments were hurt by the act of the woman Archana Makwana, and therefore a complaint has been filed against her. He said that the woman has already apologised for the act, and added people should not do such an act that requires them to apologise later.

The SGPC complained to the Amritsar police commissioner under Section 295A for hurting religious feelings. Based on SGPC’s complaint, the Punjab Police had registered a case against her. In the complaint, she was accused of offending Sikh religious sentiments.

Notably, Archana Makwana poses Shirshasana before famous landmarks across the country. In continuation, she had posted photos and videos of herself doing yoga at the Golden Temple.

When the controversy erupted, she deleted her posts and issued an apology on Instagram, stating that she didn’t intend to offend anyone. Makwana expressed that she visited the temple after receiving a yoga award in Delhi and performed yoga briefly as a gesture of gratitude. She added that she was unaware that practising yoga on the Gurdwara Sahib premises could be offensive to some. She added that she intended to pay respect and didn’t mean any harm to anyone.

However, despite the apology, Makwana mentioned that she was being subjected to death threats, which prompted the Vadodara crime branch to provide her with police protection.

China-Pakistan nexus in terrorism: Chinese telecom gear “Ultra Set” meant for Pakistani army seized from terrorists in Jammu and Kashmir

The equipment seized by security forces from terrorists has indicated an increasing China-Pakistan nexus at the Line of Control (LoC) and its angle in infiltration and terrorism incidents in Jammu and Kashmir. Notably, on Sunday (23rd June 2024), security officials stated that encounters with terrorists in Jammu and Kashmir have led to the seizure of highly encrypted Chinese telecom gear “Ultra Set”, equipment used by the Pakistani army that has ended up in the hands of terror groups.

The officials added that this has also raised concerns over undetected infiltrations from across the Line of Control and terrorists potentially residing in the outskirts of cities and villages.

According to the officials, the seized equipment indicates that state actors in Pakistan are assisting terror groups by providing them with training, weapons, and ammunition.

Officials aware of the matter said that the seizure of the mobile handsets used by foreign terrorists, primarily from Pakistan and its occupied Kashmir, indicates that terror groups are receiving training, weapons, and ammunition from state actors in Pakistan.

As per reports, the security forces had seized Chinese equipment from terrorists in two separate encounters in Jammu and Kashmir. These specialized handsets, exclusively customized by Chinese companies for the Pakistan army, were seized following a gunfight on the night of July 17-18 last year in the Sindarah Top area of Surankote in the Poonch district of the Jammu region. Four foreign terrorists were killed in the Surankote encounter.

Earlier, the security forces had seized this equipment on 26th April, this year after an encounter at the Check Mohalla Nowpora area of Sopore in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district. Two foreign terrorists were gunned down in the Sopore incident.

Furthermore, the “Ultra Set” handsets have also been found in the south of the Pir Panjal region. Strikingly, it combines cell phone capabilities with specialized radio equipment that does not rely on traditional mobile technologies like Global System for Mobile (GSM) or Code-Division Multiple Access (CDMA).

The officials said that the device operates on radio waves for message transmission and reception, with each “Ultra Set” linked to a control station located across the border.

They added that the two “Ultra Sets” cannot reach out to each other. They further noted that Chinese satellites are used to carry these messages which are compressed to bytes from the handset to the master server in Pakistan for its onward transmission.

The officials asserted, “This is yet another help being extended by China to its key ally Pakistan.”

Beijing has been actively bolstering the defense capabilities of the Pakistani army along the LoC for quite some time. This support includes constructing steelhead bunkers, provisioning unmanned aerial and combat aerial vehicles, installing encrypted communication towers, and laying underground fiber cables.

Additionally, Chinese radar systems including the “JY” and “HGR” series have been deployed to improve target detection capabilities. Further, advanced weaponry like the SH-15 truck-mounted howitzer has been observed at various locations along the LoC.

These efforts are viewed as reinforcing China’s strategic interests in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK), particularly in relation to the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC).

As per reports, the intercepted communications indicate that Chinese troops and engineers have been involved in infrastructure development along the LoC. However, the presence of senior People’s Liberation Army (PLA) officials at forward posts was not detected.

Chinese involvement includes the construction of underground bunkers and tunnels in PoK’s Leepa Valley. These efforts are believed to support the establishment of a direct route between Pakistan’s Gwadar Port and China’s Xinjiang province via the Karakoram Highway, a region under Chinese occupation.

Love Jihad in MP: Arshad becomes Bhaiyyu to befriend Hindu girl on Instagram, rapes and tortures her for over a year, forces her to convert and marry him

A shocking occurrence of love jihad and rape of a 20-year-old girl for one and a half years has come to light in the Guna district of Madhya Pradesh. The accused Arshad also recorded explicit videos of the woman. He reportedly introduced himself as “Bhaiyyu” and befriended her on social media.

After that he regularly sexually violated her. When his real identity was revealed he physically assaulted her and forced her to embrace Islam. She changed two houses during this time to escape his atrocities. On 22nd June she reached the police station along with the workers of Hindu Jagran Manch and registered a case against him under various sections including rape and assault.

She narrated her ordeal to the cops and disclosed, “I am originally from Bamori and I am 20 years old. My father is mentally ill and bedridden. My mother is a housewife and my younger brother is a student. Our financial situation is dire due to which I came to Guna about two and a half years ago. I started working in a private company here and sent money home from my salary. This is how I managed my family’s expenses. Then I became friends with a young man on Instagram in 2022. He told me his name was Bhaiyyu. He used the same ID on social media as well.”

She further added, “I gradually started talking to him. He is from Jeen Ghar in Guna. Afterwards, we began to meet frequently and snapped many photographs together. He then learned that I stayed alone in a rented place. He came there one day and threatened to kill my parents after which he forced himself on me as well as took obscene videos. He then started to torture me and repeatedly violated me by threatening to make my videos and pictures viral on social media. He used to beat me every day.”

She unveiled that approximately 3 months ago she found multiple contacts of Muslim youths on his mobile and the truth came out when she questioned him. He told her that his real name was Arshad. Afterwards, his brutality also increased. She mentioned, “He pushed me to embrace Islam. He forbade me from wearing jeans and ordered me to wear salwar kurta and burqa. He pressured me to tie the knot with him. He called me whenever he wanted, even when I was in the office. I had to leave my work and meet him. He showed up at odd hours at my accommodation. The landlord got the room vacated, as a result.”

The torment continued as he began to harass her when she rented another room and had to leave it as well. She informed, “I’ve spent the last 1.5 years under Arshad’s severe abuse. He subjected me to regular harsh beatings even in the middle of the market. A shopkeeper witnessed the same and asked me ‘Why was I tolerating it?’ However, I continue to bear everything out of fear for my family and public disgrace. I haven’t smiled for the last one and a half years. My body and face are covered in bruises from being thrashed.”

On 21st June, someone told the victim about Hindu Jagran Manch after which she contacted the district coordinator of Hindu Jagran Manch, Advocate Dilip Kumar Rajak relayed to him her entire story. He encouraged him to report the perpetrator. She then submitted a case against him on 22nd June at around 8 pm. Kotwali police station in-charge Anup Bhargav stated that a First Information Report has been lodged against the culprit on the basis of the complaint. The matter is under investigation now and further action is underway.

Tamil Nadu: DMK leader blames BJP for Kallakurichi Hooch tragedy claiming methanol came from Puducherry, calls it a ‘conspiracy by Annamalai’

Amidst mounting criticism from the opposition over the tragic deaths in the Kallakurichi Hooch tragedy, the ruling party DMK has accused its rival, the BJP, of being ‘responsible’ for the tragedy. It has alleged that the methanol used to produce the illicit liquor was sourced from Puducherry, a state ruled by the BJP-led alliance. Additionally, a DMK leader also blamed BJP’s Tamil Nadu President K. Annamail, calling the incident a “planned conspiracy by Annamalai”. Notably, at least 56 people have lost their lives in Tamil Nadu’s Kallakurichi district after consuming spurious liquor on 18th June.

Speaking to reporters in Pudukottai, DMK Organisational Secretary RS Bharathi blamed Annamalai for the incident. He made the allegations while responding to Annamalai’s earlier remarks where he demanded Chief Minister MK Stalin’s resignation over the tragedy. Senior DMK functionary even claimed that the deaths could be linked to by-poll elections in Vikravandi.

Speaking with India Today TV, Annamalai had slammed MK Stalin and suggested that the Chief Minister should introspect whether he should sit in the chair after what had happened.

Responding to Annamalai’s remarks, Bharathi said, “If anyone needs to resign, it’s their (BJP) ministers and the Chief Minister of Puducherry. The police are telling us that the raw materials came from there. The BJP is liable. They have done it. I’m calling this a planned conspiracy by Annamalai. This is related to Vikravandi election. I have doubts if it was done before elections.”

He also accused Annamalai of spreading false information regarding the incident, including the resignation of the district’s Superintendent of Police.

He added, “Annamalai will always be saying something. Annamalai’s words and actions have nothing to do with it. SP Mohanraj, who went on voluntary retirement, says that Annamalai went knowing about the corruption incident. But that SP is the same today. He gave a statement. That’s a lie, I didn’t go like that. He said that he took leave to attend the birth of my daughter and daughter-in-law and went to America. What to do with a man who lies like this? When has he spoken the truth?”

Tamil Nadu Hooch Tragedy

On 18th June, numerous people, mostly daily wage labourers from Karunapuram in the Kallakurichi district, allegedly consumed spurious liquor sold in packets and sachets. By night, many of them began experiencing symptoms such as diarrhea, vomiting, stomach ache, and eye irritation.

As per the information shared by the District Collectorate, Kallakurichi, there were a total of 216 patients admitted to four hospitals in Tamil Nadu after consuming illicit liquor.

At least 56 people have died in the incident, while dozens are still in critical condition. More than a hundred people are receiving treatment.

According to Chief Minister MK Stalin, the deaths were caused by the consumption of ‘methanol mixed arrack’. As per the Kallakurichi Collector, seven people have been arrested in the Tamil Nadu hooch tragedy.

Meanwhile, opposition parties including BJP and TTV Dhinakaran-led AMMK have launched scathing attacks on the DMK government and termed it as a “failure of the DMK government”. They have also demanded a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) inquiry into the matter.

National Testing Agency refutes allegations of its portal being compromised, assures website and all portals are secure

Amid allegations of irregularities in the conduct of entrance examinations, the National Testing Agency (NTA) claimed on Sunday that its website and all its web portals are fully secure.

The NTA further dismissed the allegations of the portals being compromised, calling them “wrong and misleading.”

“NTA website and all its web portals are fully secure. Any information that has been compromised and hacked is wrong and misleading,” the NTA said in a post on X.

The NTA is facing criticism over alleged irregularities in the conduct of National Eligibility-Cum-Entrance-Test (NEET) (UG) Examination 2024. This has led to an uproar across the country, with the opposition demanding to scrap the testing agency. An unprecedented 67 candidates achieved a perfect score of 720 marks out of 720, which added to the concerns.

Amid the NEET irregularities allegations, the Centre postponed the NEET-PG exam a day ahead of its postponed date and cancelled the UGC-NET exam conducted on June 18.

Following protests, the Centre, earlier in the day, removed the Director General of the NTA and the formed a high-level committee of experts to ensure transparency in the examinations.

The government shunted out National Testing Agency (NTA) DG Subodh Kumar Singh and placed him on ‘compulsory wait’ in DoPT. Pradeep Singh Kharola has been appointed as the new DG of the NTA.

The high-level committee of experts led by Dr K Radhakrishnan, former chairman of ISRO, IIT Kanpur include Dr Randeep Guleria, former Director, AIIMS and academicians like Aditya Mittal and Prof Ramamurthy K from the IIT system who have spearheaded reforms to ensure the integrity of the IIT examinations.

The Committee will make recommendations on reforms in the mechanism of the examination process, improvements in data security protocols, and the structure and functioning of the NTA.

Also, earlier in the day, the Central Bureau of Investigation registered a criminal case based on a written complaint from the Director of the Department of Higher Education, Ministry of Education over the NEET irregularities.

As per the agency’s FIR, certain “isolated incidents” occurred in a few states during the conduct of the NEET (UG) 2024 examination which was held on May 5, 2024. Special teams have been formed by the CBI to investigate the matter.
