0

The Pune Police have booked the father and grandfather of a teenager involved in the Pune May 19 car accident case, in a separate case of abetment of suicide of a local businessman’s son, officials said on Friday.

Local Businessman DS Kature had registered a complaint against the Pune car accident accused person’s father, grandfather and three others holding them responsible for the suicide of his son who died in January this year.

According to a police complaint, DS Kature’s Son Shashikant Katur had committed suicide after a constant harrasment from an accused Vinay Kale from whom Shashikant had taken a loan for a construction business which he failed to repay, later committed suicide.

Following the suicide, police had registered a case of abetment against Vinay Kale under IPC sections 306 and 506 at the Chandannagar police station in the city.

According to a senior Police official of Pune Police, “During the ongoing car accident investigation, the father of Vinay Kale had approached Police recently where the role of the juvenile’s father grandfather and three others surfaced in the abetment of suicide case. Following this, Pune police included the accused’s father, grandfather, and three others in the abetment of suicide FIR at the Chandannagar Police Station. They also added sections 420 and 34 of the IPC, and further investigation is ongoing.”

The accused’s father is presently in police custody regarding the manipulation of blood samples, while the grandfather is in judicial custody following his arrest for allegedly abducting the family driver for forcing him to take responsibility for the crime instead of his minor grandson.

The Pune car accident led to the killing of two people after the minor ploughed his swanky luxury car into the two IT professionals, who were travelling on a bike, killing them on the spot on the night of May 19.

The accused has been detained at an observation home on the order of the Juvenile Justice Board. He was earlier granted bail in the case but was later sent to the observation home for 14 days till June 5.

‘There is need to fight communalism in Muslim society’: CM Himanta Biswa Sarma warns about future crisis of Assam

On Thursday (6th June), Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma pointed out that the Lok Sabha election results in Assam proved that Hindus are not communal in nature. He, however, warned about the need to fight communalism within the Muslim community.

While speaking to the media, he remarked, “Irrespective of the challenges of the nation, caste and people, Assam will be washed and taken away. So I think this election also reminds me once again of the future crisis in Assam.”

“Somewhere for example, in Guwahati, a Hindu seat, the people voted for both the BJP and the Congress. Jorhat has proved that Assamese people are not communal. It is true that they did not vote for the BJP but for Congress. This is the proof that Hindus are not communal,” the Assam CM emphasised.

It must be mentioned that the son of former Assam CM, Gaurav Gogoi, won from the Jorhat constituency by a whopping 1.44 lakh votes.

Himanta Biswa Sarma added, “What did the results of Jorhat prove? That Hindus do not practice communalism. But today the Congress won in a Hindu constituency but did the BJP win in a Muslim constituency?”

“There is (however) a need to fight communalism in the Muslim society,” he concluded.

Bombay HC stays Annu Kapoor’s ‘Hamare Baarah’ 2 days before release, movie’s actors and crew members received ISIS-style death threats from Islamists

The much-anticipated release of Annu Kapoor’s ‘Hamare Baarah’ is facing a major setback as the Bombay High Court imposed a stay on its release just two days before its release till June 14. The film was slated for release on June 7.

This decision has left the makers of the film in a state of deep devastation, casting a shadow of uncertainty over the much-awaited premiere.

‘Hamare Baarah’ has been a topic of widespread discussion due to its bold narrative on overpopulation, a theme rarely explored in Indian cinema.

Starring Annu Kapoor, Manoj Joshi, and Paritosh Tripathi, the movie’s bold narrative and thought-provoking themes have captured the public’s imagination.

In light of the impending release, the film’s director and producers met with Maharashtra CM Shri Eknath Shinde, expressing gratitude for the safety and police protection provided during the release week.

However, the joy of anticipation has been overshadowed by the recent legal development.

The producers, Birender Bhagat and Ravi S Gupta have voiced serious concerns about the imposition of the stay despite the film having received a censor certificate.

Bhagat lamented, “Our film has received a certificate from the censor board. It is set to release on this Friday. We have invested crores of our hard-earned money in making the film, risked our entire life’s savings, and made this film with great difficulty. We are shocked and disappointed since a stay has been imposed on our film without even watching it.”

This legal obstacle comes in the wake of a petition filed by specific religious community activists at the Mumbai High Court against the release of the film.

Earlier, Islamists had issued ISIS-style death threats to actors and crew members of the movie, unhappy over the movie’s portrayal of Islam. The followers of radical Tehreek-e-Labbaik Pakistan which was founded by the late Khadim Hussain Rizvi and Indian extremist Mufti Salman Azhari used social media, particularly Instagram, to threaten the filmmakers with death.

Videos depicting brutal beheadings akin to those carried out by the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) accompanied by Islamic hymns and verses were shared to warn the artists. Most of social media users who issued the threats are located in Mumbra of Maharashtra’s Thane district and have ties with the Social Democratic Party of India, which is the political wing of the outlawed Popular Front of India (PFI).

Muslims are being provoked to take action against Annu Kapoor and other people associated with the movie and ‘show them their place’. Additionally, they have posted videos including Islamic slogans and gun sounds. The movie producer’s phone number was also made public and the fundamentalists have been threatening to kill him over WhatsApp.

The radicals even posted footage of actual beheadings with ISIS flags and “Allah hu Akbar” to instil fear in the hearts of the cast and crew and warned that the director would meet the same fate if the movie was released.

Jointly produced by Birender Bhagat, Ravi S Gupta, Sanjay Nagpal and Sheo Balak Singh and Directed by Kamal Chandra, ‘Hamare Baarah’ boasts a screenplay penned by Rajan Agarwal.

Lok Sabha Election: BJP’s vote share fell by 0.7% but seats decreased by 63, did well in the initial phases but suffered major losses in the final phases of polling

The results of the Lok Sabha elections in 2024 are now known to everyone. The country has voted the NDA coalition administration back to power, and the BJP has emerged as the most powerful party. The BJP has won 240 seats in these elections though it could not achieve a majority on its own. The BJP’s vote share, from 37.3% to 36.6% has decreased by only 0.6%, but its seat count has been impacted as a consequence.

As the elections progressed, the BJP suffered losses

In the Lok Sabha elections, a trend was observed in which the BJP lost ground in most of the final phases. Bihar and Uttar Pradesh propose good instances of this. The BJP suffered its greatest loss in Uttar Pradesh. It won 33 seats, the SP won 37, and the Congress won 6 in the state. As the elections progressed, the victory margin between BJP and SP also increased in Uttar Pradesh.

If seen according to the phases of voting, in the first phase of elections, BJP has won 3 out of 8 seats in Uttar Pradesh, while in the second phase, BJP has won all 8 seats. In the first phase, the BJP lagged behind only on Muslim-dominated seats. It suffered losses in the third phase. BJP lost 6 out of 10 seats in the third phase, these seats were taken by SP. In the fourth phase, BJP won 8 out of 13 seats. Here also, SP could win only on the seats of the Yadav family.

Further, the BJP suffered the greatest loss in the fifth and sixth stages. In the fifth phase, the SP-Congress combination won 10 out of 14 seats. In the sixth phase, the SP-Congress coalition won 11 of 14 seats. In the seventh phase, SP won 6 of the 13 seats. In such a setting, the BJP’s performance in Uttar Pradesh was satisfactory until the fourth phase, after which it suffered a significant setback. The SP-Congress coalition gained more than 60% of its seats in the fifth, sixth, and seventh phases.

Similarities observed in Bihar

In Bihar, the NDA suffered a significant loss in the last phase. The NDA alliance has won 30 out of 40 seats in Bihar. The opposition INDI alliance won 9 of the remaining 10 seats. In Bihar, elections were held in the seventh phase for eight seats, with the opposition winning 6.

In the last phase, RJD won Patliputra, Buxar, and Jehanabad. In the final round, Congress won Sasaram, while the Communist Party won the seat. Of the remaining 3 seats won by the INDI alliance, 2 were in Muslim-dominated districts, and one was won in the first phase itself. Even the INDI alliance did not benefit in the third, fourth, or fifth stages.

BJP lost momentum in the later phases

This story of good performance in the beginning phases and poor performance in the final phases appears to be repeated in the case of the BJP not only in Uttar Pradesh and Bihar but across the country. Across the country, the BJP won 76 of 189 seats in the first and second phases. The BJP benefited the most in the country during the third and fourth phases. In the third and fourth phases, elections were held for 190 seats in the country, with the BJP winning 96 of them.

The BJP began to suffer massive losses in the fifth and sixth phases. Elections were held in the fifth and sixth phases for 107 seats across the country, with the BJP winning 50 of them. Even in the last phase, the BJP did not perform well. In the last phase of voting on 57 seats, the BJP won only 17 seats. In such a situation, BJP suffered nationwide losses in the last three phases.

What were the factors?

There are numerous theories as to why the BJP sustained an electoral deficit when transitioning from the first to the last phase. One theory is that during the initial phases, the heat in the country dropped and voters came out, benefiting the BJP. In the latter phases, the heat in the country intensified, and voters began to stay away from voting, resulting in losses for the BJP. Aside from that, there is conjecture that the BJP received input in the first phase and adjusted its election campaign, which proved useful in the third and fourth phases.

This improvement momentum was not sustained in the following phases, resulting in losses. The direction of the election campaign, as well as shifting concerns at each round, are seen to be contributing factors. However, all of these are simply hypotheses, and the facts supporting them have yet to be validated, so it is impossible to say why the BJP gained an advantage in the early phases and benefitted less subsequently.

No alliance with Congress, Aam Aadmi Party to fight Delhi assembly elections on its own: AAP minister Gopal Rai

0

Aam Aadmi Party will contest the Delhi assembly elections on its own without alliance with Congress, party leader Gopal Rai said on Thursday, noting that the two parties had come together in the national capital only for Lok Sabha polls.

“This is clear from the very first day that the INDIA alliance was formed for Lok Sabha elections. As far as Vidhan Sabha is concerned, no alliance has been formed. AAP will fight elections with its full strength,” Rai, who is Delhi Minister for Environment, told ANI.

The two parties drew a blank in the Lok Sabha polls in the national capital with BJP winning all the seven Lok Sabha seats. While AAP contested four of seven seats, Congress put up candidates on three seats.

Rai had also told reporters that opposition parties had come together in the INDIA bloc to take on the BJP in the Lok Sabha polls and there was no alliance for assembly polls.

“It is clear from the beginning that the INDIA alliance was formed for the Lok Sabha elections. We fought Lok Sabha elections together but in the Delhi Vidhan Sabha elections, there is no alliance. We will fight the Vidhan Sabha elections together with the people of Delhi,” he said.

AAP and Congress are part of the INDIA bloc. While the two parties had an alliance in Lok Sabha polls in Delhi, Punjab and Gujarat, there was no alliance between the two in Punjab. Congress won seven seats in Punjab compared to three won by AAP which is in power in the state.

Assembly polls in Delhi are expected to be held in early 2025.  Congress could not win a single seat in the Delhi assembly polls held in 2020. While AAP won 62 out of the 70 seats, BJP secured eighth seats in the last assembly polls.

The announcement by AAP comes even as the newly elected Lok Sabha MPs have not taken oath and talks are being held among the INDIA bloc partners for better coordination to take on the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance government.

‘She was given a ticket because she called the farmers terrorists’: Priyanka Chaturvedi justifies attack on Kangana Ranaut for farmer protest comments

On 6th June actor-turned-politician Kangana Ranaut was slapped at Chandigarh airport by a woman personnel named Kulwinder Kaur belonging to the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) as the latter was furious at her because of her criticism of the farmers’ protest. Meanwhile, Shiv Sena (Uddhav Balasaheb Thackeray) leader and Rajya Sabha member Priyanka Chaturvedi has come in support of the attacker and justified the slap because Ranaut had criticised the farmer protestors.

Chaturvedi wrote on X, “The newly elected MP had called the farmers terrorists. Perhaps this was the reason why the BJP gave her the ticket,” on her social media.

However, her shocking response to the startling development was severely slammed by the netizens. One person commented, “Don’t cry if someone else slaps an MP from your alliance, tomorrow. What is wrong is wrong. She had no right to do it to anyone let alone a member of parliament.

Another user commented, “A female leader is taking pleasure in the assault of a woman MP. What can be more shameful than this?”

An individual questioned what if this had occurred to her or any other MP for her party and added, “Stop justifying everything just for the sake of it.”

Popular social media personality Mr Sinha also slammed the Shiv Sena leader and remarked, “She came out from Congress, but Congress couldn’t come out of her. Despite being an MP, she’s justifying the attack on fellow MP Kangana Ranaut. The standard of Indian politics is at its lowest.”

A netizen reminded her that she was crying and left the Congress party when it was about her but now she is using such language for another woman.

After the Bollywood star was assaulted, the constable was detained and taken to the CISF Commandant Office for interrogation. An inquiry committee comprising senior CISF officers has been set up to conduct a further investigation. Kangana Ranaut revealed that while she was walking to the airport’s boarding gate after passing through security, CISF official Kulwinder Kaur, who was stationed near the curtain area, argued with her and hit her. When the MP asked her why she did it, the CISF constable replied that she supported the farmer protests, and she was not happy with Kangana Ranaut for her remarks on the farmer protests.

In a video from the airport, the constable can be heard saying that she was angry because of Kangana Ranaut’s comments against farmer protests in 2020, saying that her mother was also part of the protests. She said that as Ranaut had woman protestors were available for hire for ₹100, it also applied to her mother who was sitting with the protestors during that time.

At his lowest, PM Modi has secured a bigger mandate in 2024 than the Congress did in the past 35 years: Details

The mandate delivered by the Indian public during this Lok Sabha election will be remembered for many years in Indian political history. The National Democratic coalition, led by the BJP, got 292 seats, 20 more than the majority mark of 272, while the opposition INDIA coalition got 234 seats, 38 away from the majority. For the first time since 2014, the BJP was unable to secure a majority on its own. The BJP got 240 seats, far fewer than the record 303 seats it won five years ago. Prime Minister Narendra Modi will take oath for the third time on June 9 and for that, he will have to depend on the support of his NDA allies.

However, it is interesting to note that PM Modi has secured a hat trick by winning for the third consecutive time since the year 2014. He is set to equal Jawaharlal Nehru’s record of taking oath for the third consecutive time as PM.

This is the first time since 1962 that a party at the Centre that has served two full five-year mandates will form its third straight government. The BJP’s seat count may have decreased, but its vote percentage remained almost the same as in 2014 and 2019. Further, the main opposition Congress party won only 99 seats and yet celebrated calling it a ‘victory’.

Interestingly, the BJP has also become the only party to secure more than 232 seats on its own since the year 1989. Congress, in the year 1989, won 197 seats and 232 in the year 1991. In the next 3 elections, BJP under the leadership of Atal Bihari Vajpayee emerged as the single largest party, winning 161 seats in the 1996 elections, and 182 each in 1998 and 1999 elections.

In the year 2004, again Congress won the maximum number of seats- 145, and the party won 206 in 2009 resulting in the leadership of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh for 10 consecutive years. However, in the year 2014, Prime Minister Narendra Modi rose to power with the party winning 282 seats in 2014, returned to power by winning 303 in the year 2019, and has once again emerged as the single largest party by winning 240 seats in the year 2024. These numbers indicate that the BJP has been the only party in the last 35 years that has secured more than 232, the maximum secured by the Congress during the 1991 elections.

Image- India Today

Though the BJP’s seat count has decreased, the NDA alliance may easily establish a coalition government. Two or three points should not be missed in the clamor about the poll results- One, the BJP won nearly all of the seats in several states like Madhya Pradesh, Himachal Pradesh, Delhi, Gujarat, Odisha, and Chhattisgarh.

Another significant aspect is that the BJP will establish a government in Odisha for the first time, ending Naveen Patnaik’s 25-year tenure. It also surged to power in Arunachal Pradesh on Monday and will now share power with the Telugu Desam Party in Andhra Pradesh. The finest outcome of this election is that neither party has expressed any concerns about tampering with electronic voting machines.

Notably, Narendra Modi is expected to take oath as Prime Minister for the third time on Sunday, June 9, at 6 pm. Earlier, it was stated that Modi is set to swear in on June 8 (Saturday). On Wednesday, Modi resigned and submitted a letter to President Murmu, who accepted his resignation and encouraged him to stay in his position until the new government took office.

Several world leaders, including Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, Sri Lankan President Ranil Wickremesinghe, Nepal Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’, Bhutan King Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck, Bhutan Prime Minister Tshering Tobgay, and Mauritius Pravind Jugnauth, are expected to attend Modi’s swearing-in ceremony.

The oath-taking ceremony will take place at Rashtrapati Bhavan.

‘Fact-checker’ Md Zubair spreads fake news claiming Kangana Ranaut was slapped over security check argument, attacker herself admits it was for criticising farmer protests

Actor and newly elected MP Kangana Ranaut was slapped by a female CISF constable at Chandigarh while she was boarding a flight to Delhi on 6th June afternoon. Ranaut said that she asked the reason behind the assault, constable Kulwinder Kaur said that the slap was revenge for Ranaut’s earlier comments criticising the farmer protests. Kaur reportedly said that she supports the farmer protests, and therefore was unhappy with Ranaut for her comments over the matter.

However, propagandist and so-called fact-checker Mohammed Zubair has come forward to dismiss the version of Kangana Ranaut, claiming that Kangana Ranaut was hit for not complying with security check, and not because of comments on farmer protests. The Alt News co-founder posted a report by Hindustan Times on X, which claims that Kangana was “slapped at security check for pushing the security personnel after the actor-politician refused to put her phone in the tray during security check. Kangana Ranaut left for Delhi at 3 pm by a Vistara flight”.

However, Zubair added Kangana Ranaut’s version of assault due to comments on farmer protests, calling it a “unverified claim on Social Media”. He added, “Hope CIFS clarifies the reason.”

Zubair terming the farmer protest comment being the reason for the slap as “unverified claim on Social Media” is a completely fake claim. Because this is not some claim made by random social media users, this version has come from Kangana Ranaut herself. Hours after the incident and after reaching Delhi, Ranaut released a video statement, where she clearly said that Kulwinder Kaur said the attack was due to Ranaut’s comments on farmer protests.

Ranaut also said that the constable was posted at the adjacent cabin for security check at the airport, which means Kulwinder Kaur didn’t frisk Ranaut. And therefore, the claim that she was slapped because she refused to put her phone in the tray and pushed the constable is completely false. Moreover, it is unlikely that the actor-MP will refuse to comply with security check norms.

Most importantly, several videos from the airport after the incident have appeared, and in one such video, Kulwinder Kaur can be heard talking about Ranaut’s comments on farmer protests. Kaur said her mother was part of the farmer protests, and objected to Ranaut’s tweet in 2020 saying that women are available for hire at the rate of ₹100 to take part in the farmer protests.

The CISF constable can be heard saying aggressively in the video, ‘She had given a statement that farmer protestors were available for ₹100. My mother was sitting there when she made these comments’. The woman was clearly justifying the assault on the actor-MP citing the comments on farmer protests, and didn’t claim that it was the result of not putting the phone on the tray during the security check.

From this video, it is clear that it is not an ‘unverified claim on social media’ that Kulwinder Kaur slapped Kangana Ranaut for remarks on farmer protests, it is a fact confirmed by Kaur herself on video.

Kangana Ranaut made the comments in 2020 pointing to an elderly woman who was seen in the protests against the three farmer laws, misidentifying the woman as Bilkis Bano.

Ranaut had tweeted “She is the same dadi who featured in Time magazine for being the most powerful Indian…. And she is available in 100 rupees. Pakistani jurno’s have hijacked international PR for India in an embarrassing way. We need our own people to speak for us internationally.” As per CISF constable Kulwinder Kaur, her mother was also part of the same protests, and she was hurt by Kangana’s comments because it also applied to her mother.

Moreover, even if some passenger refuses to comply with security check like not putting the phone on tray for x-ray check, the security personnel are not authorised to assault such a passenger. As per protocol, such passengers will be denied boarding for not cooperating with security checks. And if the passenger creates a ruckus over it, the person can be handed over to local police. Under no circumstances, a CISF personnel posted at the airport can’t slap a passenger for not complying with security check.

As per the latest reports over the incident, The Central Industrial Security Force constable has been suspended, and an FIR has been filed against her.

CISF Constable who assaulted MP-elect Kangana Ranaut at Chandigarh Airport suspended, FIR lodged

The Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) constable who assaulted newly elected Member of Parliament from Mandi, Kangana Ranaut, has been suspended and a Police complaint has been made by the security agency in the local police station.

A senior CISF officer said that the central security agency has suspended the woman constable and has given a complaint against her at the local police station for FIR, reported ANI.

Earlier on Thursday, June 6, actor and newly elected MP Kangana Ranaut was slapped at Chandigarh Airport by a woman constable. After the incident, the constable was detained and taken to the CISF Commandant Office for interrogation. An inquiry committee comprising senior CISF officers has been set up to conduct a further investigation.

Kangana Ranaut said that while she was walking to the airport’s boarding gate after passing through security, CISF official Kulwinder Kaur, who was stationed near the curtain area, argued with her and hit her. When the MP asked her why she did it, the CISF constable replied that she supports the farmer protests, and she is not happy with Kangana Ranaut for her comments on the farmer protests.

Kangana later issued a video message detailing the incident. She said that she is getting lots of phone calls, and assured that she is safe. After detailing how she was hit by the female security personnel from the adjacent cabin, she said that she is concerned about the rise in terrorism and extremism in Punjab.

Kangana Ranaut was elected to Lok Sabha from Mandi constituency in Himachal Pradesh in the recently concluded elections where she defeated her nearest Congress rival by over 74,000 votes.
