No separate religious status for Lingayats: Centre informs Karnataka High court

Central Government has informed Karnataka High Court, that recommendation to provide separate religion tag to Lingayat sect is discarded. Following which, Karnataka High court also dismissed the Public Interest Litigations challenging Karnataka State Minority Commission's move to constitute a panel to look into the separate religious minority status to Lingayats. Additional Solicitor General(ASG) Prabhling Navadegi informed the division bench of Chief Justice Dinesh Maheshwari and Justice S Sujatha that central government has already notified Karnataka Government about the decision.
